Install of iTunes and QuickTime and now computer will not reboot

Hi,
I installed iTunes and Quicktime on my windows 2000 machine yesterday. I installed it to an external hard drive and when the install was done it said it needed to restart so I pressed ok. Now the computer will not boot! Any ideas about what I can do to fix the situation?

OK, I have fixed it here. Here's what I did:
    quit iTunes
    trashed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
started iTunes, and authorised my account
Worked straight away after that !

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI card installed, now computer will not turn off

I installed Audiophile 2496 card + "live lite 4" software and now my computer will not turn off. It goes through the motions, but than just reboots. I have to hold the start button to kill it. I also have a Firmtek SATA PCI card and a USB 2.0 PCI card. Is there some way to solve this short of pulling the card?

  • Iphone is frozen on the apple screen. Was freezing and so turned it off and now it will not reboot?

My iphone started acting slow and would become frozen as I tried to re-download facebook. I turned the phone off and now it will not turn back on and stays frozen on the apple screen. Is it possible that viruses can be downloaded on the iphone?

Try a force restart by holding the power and home button down at the same time. One of two things will PROBABLY happen; 1) It will boot into iOS as normal. 2) You will get an iTunes logo with a USB cable at the bottom. If the second happens you will need to plug it into iTunes to do a restore. If neither of these happen, force restart again. Once the phone powers off, let go of both buttons and push and hold the home button and plug the phone into iTunes. This will force the phone into recovery mode. Proceed with a restore at that point.

  • Usb will not open and pop up says computer will not accept it

In transferring files from a mac mini to an imac, I was able to open and load a usb.  But when I inserted the usb into the i mac, it would not open.  When I returned the usb to the mini to retrieve the files, it would not open there as well.  A pop up now appears on both screens saying it will not work with either computer.  Is it possible to retrieve the files and load them into a usb that will work?

You mean you deleted the files on the mini!?
Did you look in the trash can for the files?
You can try to recover the files on the flash drive & the mini hd.  Stop using the mini.  Connect via firewire to your othe mac in target disk mode.
I'd try running disk utility on the flash drive.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility

  • TS2755 When I hook up my Phone it comes up saying that the required software is not installed reinstall itunes. I have it still will not see my phone or pad?

when I hook up my phone it comes up saying that the required software is not installed. Reinstall itunes.
I did that and it still does not see my phone or pad?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

One of our sys admins has some input on this. Starting to make sense.
Looks like maybe this kernel is missing the device mapper info.
    *.203 + *.205:
Now regarding the issue with this and the *.205 server post kernel
updates + reboot (kernel panic due to the system not being able to load
/), I think this was due to some needed device mapper modules being
missing from the initrd of the new kernel (see below for the details).
As per lenny, I've updated the grub configs on *.205 to load the old
kernel (default=1 in /boot/grub/grub.conf; the system was restored by
booting back to the previous kernel) for now:

  • Tried to update Mac os x Maverick on Macbook Pro.  Now computer will not boot

Have tried several methods, but sound comes on as if it id trying to boot, but apple on screen with little spinning wheel

What exactly did you try? Try the following things one at a time. If you have problems with running the procedures, reply back. If one of the procedures fixes the problem, do not proceed with the remainng procedures, but reply back.
Try this first: did you try a safe mode boot? http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14215 last item in the table. If successful, reboot normally and test.
Try this next: did you try to boot to Recovery HD? Hold down option key when you hear the chime and select Recovery HD. Select Disk Utility. Select Macintosh HD and click Repair Disk. Repeat the repair until no errors occur. Once there are no errors, click Repair Permissions and repeat until no errors occur. Reboot normally and test.
Try this last: did you try a single-user mode boot?
Warning: Be extremely careful when doing these steps and double-check your exact typing before you hit enter! If a step does not work, stop immediately and report back with the exact messages please
Boot into single-user mode (hold 'command' and 'S' keys when the chime sounds
At the # prompt type   /sbin/fsck -fy    and hit enter. It goes through a number of checking stages. At the end it will either say the volume appears to be ok or ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****.  If it says it was ok, we need to do more things. If it gives ***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****, redo this step until it says ok.
If step 2 does not even do the check but gives an error, please reply with the exact messages. If step 2 succeeds, report back please
Once that's done you can type reboot to boot normally and reply with status please.
