Install of Locator

Using the Oracle Universal Installer I have installed Spatial with Locator. If I am not mistaken should this have also created the MDSYS schema? My install did not install that schema. Am I missing a step somewhwere? Thank you in advance.

Hi Scott,
The installation will create the MDSYS user, you should not have to create it. That's why if the MDSYS user isn't there, then locator/spatial has not been installed.
You need to read the directions in the Oracle interMedia User's Guide. I'm looking at the Oracle Spatial User's Guide and Reference for 10g, and it says this:
"The installation of Locator depends on the successful and proper installation of Oracle interMedia. interMedia is installed and configured with Oracle Database 10g, although you can install interMedia manually if necessary, as documented in Oracle interMedia User's Guide. During the installation of interMedia, if a license for Oracle Spatial is not present, Locator is installed instead of Spatial. However, if interMedia was not installed properly, Locator will not be installed properly."

To change to manually managing an iPod you don't "unselect" sync music, you "select" manually manage songs and videos. If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod by checking the box beside "manually manage songs and videos" in the Summary tab and clicking Apply. Your iPod will not sync with iTunes in this mode so it can have different content, you can get details here:

One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD: How to back up your media in iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod
I don't have any TV shows so I can't speak from experience here but looking at the TV tab it appears you can only sync shows, there's no manually manage option. Syncing would require that you keep the shows on your computer otherwise they would be removed from the iPod the next time you syncronised with iTunes.

Since version 3.6.6 installed, my Location bar drop-down sites have disappeared.

Installed folder location

After installing Shockwave Player I haven't been able to
locate where it was installed. On the web download site indication
show installation is complete. There's no ref to where. It's not on
the desktop, or in the adobe Program file, or in it own Shockwave
Player file, or in the Start > All Programs list. How do I open

It's not something you need to locate and open. It runs when
you visit a
page in your browser that contains a Director movie and is
*only* used
in this context.
That being said, it should be installed in your
system32\Adobe\Shockwave
11\ directory (on Windows)

Installing Shockwave - location of files

I work for an organisation where everyone has a "profile" on
a shared network. We have limited space for our profiles, and
mine's getting too big, mainly because Shockwave files have been
installed within my profile (Documents & Settings) rather than
giving me the option of putting them somewhere else (e.g. my hard
drive). Anyone know if you can change the location of your files,
or will it decide for itself where to stick 'em?

If you are inserting anything that's been time-stamped (ie, a Broadcast Wav file, like the ones you get from Zoom recorders, etc) then it will be inserted into your session starting at the same point that the file time stamp starts...

ODSEE11gR1 Native Install Directory Location

Is it possible to change the location that odsee11 is installed to with the native package install? By default it puts it in /opt/SUNWdsee7, I want to change it to /opt/dsee7 for consistency purposes with the rest of my directories.

Hi,
as you already said, the native package distribution installs by default in +/opt/SUNWdsee7+ and the command you use to install is pkgadd. The only modifier that gives some chances to modify the installation path is -R, but this will only provide an +<ALTERNATE_ROOT_PATH>+ under which the Directory Server installer will create it's own typical structures:
- <ALT_ROOT_PATH>/opt/SUNWdsee7
- <ALT_ROOT_PATH>/var/opt/SUNWdsee7
If you really want to install it to a different location, then I suggest to use the ZIP distribution that is much more flexible in that sense.

Guys,
Please explain me why Oracle stores some files (always) in C:\programFile\oracle, though we specifiy different drive/location for Oracle Home.
And whats the significance of that particualr folder and is dere any way to avoid having any oracle fiels in SYSTEM Drive...??

On windows platforms it stores generic used files, such as those used by the Oracle Inventory and JInitiator and its own jre environment.

How to restore documents after a clean install when location is not known?

I have had some troubles with my computer recently and the person at the genius bar said I should wipe my drive clean and include everything except my library folders and system folder. The only thing I don't know how to restore is documents that aren't stored in a known location in the finder. What I mean is programs like LittleSnapper or Macjournal that have their files contained with the application (in another words I don't go to the Finder to save or open these documents.)
I did a search for some files from "Things" and it looks like these get stored under the library. Therefore if I choose to not restore the library (like the Genius said) wouldn't I lose access to these files?! LittleSnapper appears to save it's files in a hidden folder on the hard drive called "private". How can I restore that folder if I don't even have access to it?
Do I just export the files from these programs to the finder and then reimport them later? "Things" doesn't even appear to have a way to export it's files that I know of.

The reason I thought that is if you open a LittleSnapper screen shot in Photoshop or where ever and then command click on the windows title it shows the private folder on the file's path.

OAS 10g (10.1.2) Windows install -- different location for pagefile.sys

During installation of OAS 10g (10.1.2), by default the pagefile.sys on the C:\ is checked to see that it has at least 512 MB. The pagefile.sys on our Windows server is located on a different drive. Is there a way to specify to the OAS installer to scan for the pagefile.sys on a different drive?

Do you get this error when you try to run forms configured using OAS 10g 10.2.0.2.
We run a Web application using OAS 10g 10.2.0.2 and after leaving the application idle, more than half an hour, ora-12152 is displayed and the application is in a deadlock.
Can you please suggest any solution for the same.
Should the SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) be commented in sqlnet.ora file.

In Ubuntu, I had all installed packages' install scripts, md5sum and file lists in /var/lib/dpkg/info. Where can I find this information (especially the install scripts) on arch?

U110 - Installing XP - Locating VeriFace

As much as I like Vista, as a rule, I generally run XP on notebooks. With the exception of DX 10, there really isn't much XP can't do and while using far less system resources than Vista. Having said that, I'd like to install XP Pro on my U110. Unfortunately, the U110 does not come with any restoration media (or media of any type). There is a recovery partition, but that is to restore they system, individual installers are not provided.
Granted, Vista Home Premium runs fine on my U110, I just prefer to get all the performance out of my system that I can. Does anyone know where I can get the VeriFace software? I can't seem to find it among the downloads for the U110. If I do a Google search, there are lots of matches... all pointing to torrents (which leads me to believe it may not be readily available). I'm not a big fan of downloading torrents when I'm not particularly familiar with the files. I did download a file called VeriSetup.exe and tried to install it on a virtual machine (just incase it was something other than what it was entitled) and I got a message that said it can only be installed on Lenovo computers. I couldn't get any further than that... but I'm fairly confident that's enough to let me know it's at least legit. I just want to be sure I have the latest version and would much rather get it from a trusted source vs. something called "really really rare veriface software"... it doesn't particularly inspire confidence.
If anyone knows of a trusted source to download it from... or how I might be able to get the installer off of my current system... I'd be very grateful.

If you do not change patitions size during XP install , your NOVA recovery will be fine.
Usually Veriface and other software come on CD that is in pack with notebook. Isn't it there?
Also, trying to install Veriface on virtual machine is a good logic step, but most of Lenovo software just won't install if in your DMI it is not written that it's a Lenovo machine.
So, no disk with Veriface?

How to locate where programs are installed on iMac and how to uninstall

Hi. Long-time PC user who just made the switch to Mac (iMac to be exact), and this is my first time using this forum. Hoping you can help provide answers to the following (all related):
(1) how can I find out where programs I download and install are located on the hard drive? I open the HD and see subdirectories and such, but can't really figure out where the program I install go
(2) how can I tell if I've installed the same program twice? Or does Mac automatically remove or reinstall over a duplicate program? and
(3) what is the correct way to uninstall a program from Mac -- for example, if indeed I have duplicate programs

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:

SuperPop
Uninstaller
Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Attempting to install Forms 6.0.5.0.2 (or 6.0.8.8.0) run-time and 8.1.6 client on same NT box.
1) I attempted to install 8.1.6 client first in c:\oracle\ora81, then Forms 6 in c:\oracle\forms6. The installer (3.3.1.2.4) errors, saying forms 6 does not support a multi-home installation.
2) Attmpted to install Forms 6 first in c:\orant. Then installed 8.1.6 client in c:\oracle\ora81. After beginning installation (application user) the following Dependency message displays and the installation is canceled: "Installation cannot continue for the follwoing reason(s). [Oracle ODBC Driver is a single Oracle home product. It is already installed in location c:\oracle\ora81. Oracle provider for OLE DB is a single oracle home product. It is already installed in location c:\oracle\ora81. Oracle objects for OLE is a .... Pracle Provider for OLE is a single home ... You can either de-install these products or install the products in the same location as the single home products."
Click ok and the installation cancels.
How do I install these two products on the same box?

We had to upgrade from 7.3.2 to 7.3.4 when we moved over to Forms
6.0.5.0.2 and it's working fine.
We are using Net 8 as well.
