  • JDK installed in WindowsXP but without public jre. Problems!!

Hello everyone. I have a few questions regarding a jdk installation. I never install a public copy of the jre mainly because I think it's a waste of space. But here are the down sides. I haven't been able to use the java plugin with Firefox, even though I have tried copying all related dll files into firefox's plugin folder. If I check "about:plugins" I see all the java plugins, but I can't see the applets (Firefox doesn't even tell me that the plugin is missing, the applet just doesn't show). The other thing is that I canno't double click an executable jar file to start an app, I have to open a console and run it myself.
I refuse to believe that this can't be done without the public jre. Is there any way?
    Thanx for all your help

You have to compare the space this uses with the time it takes.
If you compress the folder it takes up 42 MB which costs about 2 pence or 4 cents.
How much is your time worth?

  • Problem in installing j2sdk on cygwin-a-top-windowsXP

    Sir/madam,
I have cygwin installed on windowsXP. I am new to java. I needed j2sdk for a program and I downloaded the Linux .bin file "j2sdk-1_4_2_07-linux-i586-rpm.bin". I tried to use "./ " installation method as suggested on the site, but got the following messeges after agrreeing to licence terms:
    trap: bad signal HUP
    Unpacking..
    Checksumming...
    0
    0
    Extracting...
    ./install.sfx.924 not found
    Done
But nothing was installed in the folder where I ran this command. Please tell me the solution at the earliest. Whether I downloaded the wrong file for Cygwin-win installation or something else is there. I have even tried the simple bin file but same problem exists.
    Thanking in advance.

Perhaps when flaming about what cygwin is or is not one should consider how it is used. Some folks take their unixy source and compile it, linking with the cygwin dll. But others of us live in a bash or ksh shell in an xterm, all UNDER CYGWIN ON WINDOWS. The problems folks have is that so many proprietary...uh...things, like Javac/java have hard coded methodologies, such as depending on a %PATH% vs. $PATH...Slash vs. backslash. Here's what is probably what should be known by you superdeduper portablility language lovers:
java -classpath `cygpath -wp $CLASSPATH` [arguments]
    or
    java -classpath $(cygwath -wp $CLASSPATH) GoodByeCruelWorld.class

    DESCRIPTION
The cygpath program is a utility that converts Windows native file-
names to Cygwin POSIX-style pathnames and vice versa. It can be used
when a Cygwin program needs to pass a file name to a native Windows
program, or expects to get a file name from a native Windows program.
Alternatively, cygpath can output information about the location of
important system directories in either format.
The -u and -w options indicate whether you want a conversion to UNIX
(POSIX) format ( -u) or to Windows format ( -w). Use the -d to get
DOS-style (8.3) file and path names. The -m option will output Win-
dows-style format but with forward slashes instead of backslashes.
This option is especially useful in shell scripts, which use back-
    slashes as an escape character.
In combination with the -w option, you can use the -l and -s
options to use normal (long) or DOS-style (short) form. The -d option
is identical to -w and -s together.
Caveat: The -l option does not work if the check_case parameter of
CYGWIN is set to strict, since Cygwin is not able to match any Win-
dows short path in this mode.
The -p option means that you want to convert a path-style string
rather than a single filename. For example, the PATH environment vari-
able is semicolon-delimited in Windows, but colon-delimited in UNIX.
By giving -p you are instructing cygpath to convert between these
    formats.
The -i option supresses the print out of the usage message if no file-
name argument was given. It can be used in make file rules converting
variables that may be omitted to a proper format. Note that cygpath
output may contain spaces (C:\Program Files) so should be enclosed in
    quotes.
    cygpath usage
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ "${1}" = "" ];
    then
    XPATH=".";
    else
    XPATH="$(cygpath -w "${1}")";
    fi
    explorer $XPATH &
    The capital options -D, -H, -P, -S, and -W output directories used
by Windows that are not the same on all systems, for example -S might
output C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. The -H shows the Win-
dows profiles directory that can be used as root of home. The -A
option forces use of the "All Users" directories instead of the cur-
rent user for the -D and -P options. On Win9x systems with only a
single user, -A has no effect; -D and -AD would have the same out-
put. By default the output is in UNIX (POSIX) format; use the -w or
-d options to get other formats.

  • Installing J2EE engine.

    Hi ,
I want to install j2EE engine on my machine. My machine is not in the network. It has 2GB RAM and Windows XP os.
Can you tell me whether j2ee can be installed on  windowsXP? Which version I should install?
    Thnaks All.
    Mike Macoul.

You can install it on Windows XP without any problems irrespective of what the others say. I have it on my computer too. When you see the warnings just click cancel so that the checks are not carried out again instead of Ok and you are fine.
If your 90 days are up, you do not need to format your system to install it again. That's crazy. In case you need to use it again, just uninstall before the 90 days are up and delete the dbtech key under SAP in the registry. Then install the software again. It works fine on my computer.

  • BEx Analyzer not working in SAP GUI 7.10

    Dear All,
BEx Analyzer 7.0 is not working on SAP GUI 7.10. Following are the details:
    OS: Windows XP SP2
Installed the following softwares (in the sequential order):
    1. Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 SP1
    2. MS Office 2003 (without any service packs)
    3. SAP GUI 7.10 (used SAPAllSetup.exe) to install both BEx Analyzer 3.5 and BEx Analyzer 7.0 alongwith SAP GUI 7.10.
While BEx Analyzer 3.5 runs fine, 7.0 does not.
Upon running BEx Analyzer 7.0 from the Programs menu, I see a toolbar on the left hand side on MS Excel in German. Whenever I click on any button, they do not respond.
When I tried to install update for Office 2003 (KB907417), I received the message stating the patch has already been applied.
I also applied SAP GUI 7.10 Patch Level 8, but still the problem remains the same.
Running Tcode RRMX from the SAP GUI opens MS Excel with both the toolbars of 3.5 (on top) and 7.0 (on left). As before, 3.5 works fine, while 7.0 does not.
Do I need to install Office SP2 or SP3, as well? Or something else? Any solutions?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sachin.

  • Cannot start Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows XP Pro

    Hi all,
I am facing a hell lot of problem in starting an Oracle 815 ( Enterprise edition ) database installed on WindowsXP Pro.
First problem is that , I am a Unix person and very less familier with Windows servers .
I have successfully ( appearently ) installed Oracle 8.1.5 Enterprise edition on my Laptop with Windows XP Pro.
In the service manager I can see the created services , like for the database , listener etc.
I have set all of them to be started manually .
When I try to start the database service ( instance ) , a progress bar appears as the service is being started .
As the progress bar progresses , its progress becomes slower and slower , at the end it stops saying ,
Could not start the OracleService<sid of db> service on Local Computer
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
In the service manager the status of the service becomes 'starting' and thats it . It do not allow to start or stop that service after that .
Is there any log or trace I can see for this ?
If I start the listener service , it starts immediatly .
    Please advice .

    Hi ,
I have just installed the latest OLEDB (OraWin9204) And ODBC (ora9205) Providers on my laptop using Oracle9i Personal Edition on Windows XP Prof. Now im getting this same error message. (service did not start in a timely fasion)
If i try and run the oracle service from the command line i get more of a clue.
    \oraHome\bin\oracle.exe <service name>
the following error message appears :
The procedure entry point qmxdCvtXtobToSax could not be located in the dynamic link library orageneric9.dll
this is located in the \oraHome\bin directory
i have unpacked all of the jar files and had a look through them and i definatley have the latest orageneric9.dll that i can find which is :
    Date = 08/08/2003 : 12:39
    size = 2,638,096
does anyone have a newer version of this file ?

  • USB Ports & USB Card Bus Adapter

I have a Satellite A15-S127 that I bought brand new when they were released the end of May, 2003. In general, it has and still does run great. A few years back I went from using WindowsXP Home, which came pre-installed, to WindowsXP Pro. Just after that the 2 factory installed USB ports in the back of the laptop stopped working. I tried to get them back working and couldn't so I bought a 2 Port USB Card Bus Adapter, which has worked great giving me back useable USB ports.  Well, all of a sudden when I insert the Card Bus into the laptop, everything locks up. I can do nothing but remove it and hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot. I even bought a new Card Bus Adapter and it does the same thing. Now I have no useable USB ports.
Im hoping someone can help me to either get my originally installed USB ports working or to get my PC card slot working again.
    Thanks
        Logan Krewe

I wanted to add to this...I did plug in a CF card the other day and that was recognized.  I then tried my external hard drive directly again in a front USB port and it worked for a while (an hour or so).  Then it suddenly was not there anymore as if I'd ejected it even though I didn't.  Tried to put it back in and nothing.  This tells me it may be a hardware problem since it "recognized" it for a bit.  It's very frustrating.

  • JMF can't detect Logitech Pro 5000!!!

JMF Crash WindowsXP while register the capture devices!!!
    The symptom is like this:
    1) Every time when I tried to install JMF, WindowsXP went to the stage trying to detect my capturer devices, it crashed WindowsXP and went to dark directly. That's to say, I couldn't actually install JMF!! After I plug out my Logitech Pro 5000 and reboot into XP, JMF successfully installed this time.
    2) However, after reboot into XP, I went to JMF Registry Editor->Capture Devices, I can't find the Video capture devices (of course, I didn't plug my Logitech Pro 5000 in when installing JMF!!) I clicked "Detect Capture Devices" anyway, WindowsXP crashed to black again!!
I really don't know why so many other guys easily installed JMF, while on my computer, I couldn't do so.
    Anybody give me a hand??
    Cheers

    Hi!
It seems I have exactly the same problem.
Did you solve the problem since?

  • P35 Neo2/FR impossible to use when HardDrive is working hard.

My WHOLE machine come to an almost stand still when my hard drive/s are being used heavily.  What I mean is if I and converting a movie file using convertXtoDVD or any other converter it gets to a stage near the end where it compiles the audio/video together. At this stage when the hard drive is in use constantly the machine is SO sluggish I can't even open the start menu. I first though it was the program but I have since tried copying a big file from one SATA HD to another SATA HD and vice a versa, but this still results in the machine being unrespensive. I have just updated the intel chipset (9.1.1.1025) and matrix Storage Manager (8.9.0.1023) which didn't do a thing and I'm running bios 1.A. I have tried a FREASH install of windowsXP onto a spare hard drive but with the SAME results. Has anybody got any idea to solve this.

    Further testing
Testing with windows xp defrag was even worse. When moving large files windows explorer locked up for a long time and so did windows defrag. Is this an MS API bug, still trying to get to the bottom of it as it seems to be a software problem as other already running programs didnt hang and kept chugging along but anything associated with windows explorer hung including start menu. Have been able to reproduce this on another xp machine with a different chipset/motherboard. Is this an XP problem?
While googling found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822430/en-us which seems a similar problem but fixed in SP2.

  • MSI 975X Power Up Edition V2.1 Issue Beside Overclocking After Flash New Bios

    Hi all,
I hope I can get a lot of help here. I'm having a few issues with this board. I cannot find any thread that discuss other issue beside overclocking after you flash a new bios. Here are my problem:
    1.  I installed fresh WindowsXP with SP2. Windows cannot detect new usb device eventhough WindowsXP recognized the usb controller. If I plugin any usb device, windows does not detect a new device. I try to stick a USB flash and I can see the light for a few seconds but Windows cannot detect it. Before I upgrade the bios to version 715 (beta), I used usb flash to upgraded it. Now, the bios is not even boot from usb flash.
    2. Other things that concern me, the southbridge chipset is really really hot. If you touch it long enough, it will burn you.
    3. I cannot figure it out the front audio from manual book (JAUD1). Is any of you know where the mic needs to go?
    Thanks

I removed the Big Typhoon from the MB and I replace with stock fan.  I want to make sure the back plate from Big Typhoon doesn't cause any problem.  When I bootup the windows, I saw WindowsXP recognized the USB device but it disappeared again. I took the MB out from the case and test it without a case. It stills does not recognize the usb. Somebody mention bad PSU(Power Supply Unit) may cause a lot wierd problem. I changed PSU from RaidMax Vocalno 630W to Ultra X-Finity 500W. I don't have a lot of stuff that require power. Do you think the PSU cause this issue?
