Install Opatch Utility 6880880

I try to apply Oracle interim patch released on March 2009. But the document syas that I have to use Opatch utility 10.2.0.4.3 or later. The current version on my DB server is 10.2.0.4.2. So I have to install Opatch Utility patch 6880880. In the README document, it says: " to install this patch, simply extract the file directly under the ORACLE_HOME". In my understanding, this Opatch utility is a java based program. As long as I extract zipped file under Oracle_Home, it will be ready to execute for Opatch usage. Am I right? Please confirm my thought and give me your advice. Thanks.

Do exactly as the document indicates and it should work correctly.

Oracle software. If you have an older version of opatch it is strongly
    recommended to back it up.

To install this patch simply extract the file p4898608_10203_GENERIC.zip

  • How to use Opatch Utility

I am new to Oracle Opatch Utility and can't seen to find the correct information on Metalink or OTN. My database system contains Oracle 11g, version 11.1.0, running on Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server4.1
    My questions are as follows:
    1. Do you run Opatch as the Oracle user? or as root?
    2. Are there any other environment variables besides the $ORACLE_HOME, that need to be set for Opatch to run properly?
    3. When I run the command ". opatch lsinventory -detail" as the oracle user, the output scrolls off the screen, and when the command terminates, it exits from the Oracle connection. Is this a normal Opatch behavior?
Thanks in advance for any input on this subject.

you should run opatch as oracle user not root.
usually there's patch note if you need to run opatch. you just follow what's patch not suggested.
No, opatch lsinventory shouldn't close out the oracle OS user connection after run.

  • Archive and Install/Disc Utility issues -

I'm currently spending a summer abroad in South America, and have had issues with my Macbook Pro (early 2011 version) no longer starting up after some virus experiences last week.  The computer hangs itself during loading on the white screen w/ grey apple and the spinning dial.  In contacts with Apple Care as well as some Mac-saavy friends, the following situations have been tried:
Opening in safe mode - The loading bar (added at the bottom of the grey apple screen) loads about 1/4 of the way, disappears, and the computer hangs itself.
Opening in single user mode - I run the recommended sbin/fsck -fy command to clean up the hard drive.  It comes back after having checked 6-7 parts, saying that the MacHD is in good shape, with a message following saying that something had been "modified" (forgive me for not remembering the correct verbage at present).  I then run the same command again, resulting in a message that the HD is clean and without error.  I then "reboot" and remain hung on the white screen w/ grey apple.
Opening in verbose mode - I reach the following lines of text, and then there is no further progress:
    enable
    IONetworkController::enable
    createMediumTables
    enable end
MacAuthEvent en0   Auth result for: 00:23:cd:1e:f2:c4 No Ack
same line as above saying "Auth timed out" at the end
Command+option+r+p - shock two or three times, (three startup chimes) and computer continues to hang itself in the normal spot.
    - So, at this point I took the advice of Apple Care and a few other friends, and tracked down a "retail copy" of Mac OSX (10.6.3) in order to try to do an Archive and Install or any sort of Disc Utility via the startup disc.
Inserting the disc and holding "c" at startup results in the cd drive whirring the disc for a few moments, and then remaining hung at the same white loading screen.
Holding "option" during the startup gives me the option of loading from the HD, or the disc.  Selecting the disc proceeds to whirr the cd drive, take me to the white loading screen with the grey apple, and... you guessed it... leaves the CPU hung.
My question is then, is my Macbook Pro unable to read this disc and execute Archive and Install/Disc Utility for hardware reasons as per the virus attack, or is the disc not compatible with my version of OSX (which I have since confirmed through my wife to be 10.6.6)?
Different sources have told me different things.  The local AASP in Uruguay sold me what they professed to be the "latest" version of OSX - the 10.6.3, what's more for $55 dollars instead of the lower cost as available in the states (between $15-$30), so I am reluctant to go back to them for advice when they seem more inclined to cash in on my inexperience (Mac owner of less than a month) than actually fixing my issue.  Apple Care told me that a standard "retail disc" should work, but I am assuming now that they believe I can snag the same version as initially came with my Macbook Pro.  Should I be looking to have my wife mail my original OSX install DVDs down here to resolve this problem?  Should 10.6.3-retail be working and is not for reasons I haven't identified?  I have since done some online research and found mentions that doing any sort of HD partitioning or OSX reinstalls can only be accomplished by utilizing a disc of an equal or more recent version of the OSX (examples that 10.4 can't work on a notebook preinstalled with 10.5, etc).  Does this translate to 10.6.3 not being able to function for my 10.6.6 MBP?
Any insight or thoughts would be much appreciated, as essentially all of my schoolwork and assignments are now trapped on an inaccessible HD.  Thank you for your time.
    - Joseph

I tried adding in a bunch of information about what your troubleshooting steps meant, but the server went into maintenance while I did. So, here it is again:
"Opening in safe mode - The loading bar (added at the bottom of the grey apple screen) loads about 1/4 of the way, disappears, and the computer hangs itself."
This is FSCK running, and gives you an indication of it's progress.
"MacAuthEvent en0   Auth result for: 00:23:cd:1e:f2:c4 No Ack"
This is either a failed DHCP request or ARP request.
    "Command+option+r+p"
         Command+Option+P+R - Resets PRAM. That's why p+r.
"Inserting the disc and holding "c" at startup results in the cd drive whirring the disc for a few moments, and then remaining hung at the same white loading screen."
This problem indicates that the disc is too old to boot your system. The reason for why this disc cannot boot is because it doesn't contain the necessary drivers for your model MacBook Pro. My mom and brother have similar models, and my brother had similar issues while in Japan. He went and got an install disc as well, which failed, I ended up stepping him through so that it would boot in Safe Mode, and then got it working in Normal Mode remotely.
FYI: Sophos has a free Mac Antivirus program, that is very processing friendly, and will scan in the background. You may wish to consider it as an alternative to Avast! if it continues giving you problems. Though I suspect it may be coincidence that your computer had problems shortly after Avast! cleaned up files. Let me know how it goes. You may wish to open up Disk Utility and check your S.M.A.R.T. Status. You want to make sure it says "Verified" If it doesn't say "Verified" then you have a problem.

  • Can't install Airport Utility 5.6 in OSX 10.7.5

I have a 2005 Airport Extreme that I manage using an iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5. I recently tried to access my airport to check the IP address. Airport Utility could not access the Airport and told me that I needed to install Airport Utility 5.6 to access the Airport. I installed AU 5.6 and tried to access the Airport, but this time was told that this version of AU does not work with Mac OSX 10.7.5. So I downloaded AU 6.2. On this third attempt to access my Airport, I was told that this version of AU does not work with this Airport  and I need to install version 5.6. I'm stuck. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buying a new Airport, that is).
    Thanks for the help,
    Paul

Make sure you download it from this URL
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
It should install without any difficulty.
AU 5.6.1 is for the latest AirPort Base Stations for systems running Snow Leopard.
    NB from the following
AirPort Base Station: How to set up and configure an 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station or AirPort Express in OS X Lion
If you are using OS X Lion and wish to set up or configure an older 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, or 802.11g AirPort Express, manually download and install AirPort Utility 5.6. AirPort Utility 5.6 can be used to configure earlier 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, and AirPort Express; it can also be used for 802.11n AirPort base stations.
To obtain and use AirPort Utility 5.6:
    Go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
Search for AirPort Utility 5.6 and download it.
Allow AirPort Utility 5.6 to install.
Open AirPort Utility from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
Note: If you are configuring or setting up a newer AirPort Base Stations that support 802.11n, you should use AirPort Utility 1.0 for iOS or AirPort Utility 6.0 for OS X Lion, or later.
You can have both AirPort Utility 6.0 and 5.6 in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
AirPort Utility 5.6 will appear in the /Applications/Utility folder as "AirPort Utility 5.6"
AirPort Utility 6.0 will appear as "AirPort Utility"

  • Installing Airport Utility 5.6.1 in order to configure older Airport Extreme/g model doesn't work as it won't install with OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Solution?

I need to configure Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11b/g but Airport Utility 6.3.1 will not work.
    I found this page:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5022
it recommends installing Airport Utility 5.6 which downloads as 5.6.1
but it will not install on Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5
    so what to do?

AirPort Utility 5.6.1 is for Snow Leopard. Use 5.6 for Lion or Mountain Lion.
You can use the following workaround to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on a Lion or Mountain Lion Mac:
Be sure to read the caveats at the end.
Lion / Mountain Lion's package installer will refuse to install superseded versions of AirPort Utility. Instead you will need to use a package extractor such as Pacifist or unpkg. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Download unpkg here: http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
When the AirPort Utility .dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app:
Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist.
The most recent version of AirPort Utility included with Mountain Lion should be used to configure 802.11n - capable AirPort Base Stations. Make no attempt to delete it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist. Use the older version only as necessary for older AirPort Base Stations that cannot be administered any other way.
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Keep in mind that Apple's decision to abandon support for the original AirPort Express and AEBS was for reasons known only to them. Remember that you are using obsolete equipment, should some future OS X feature not work for you.

  • Error Installing Airport Utility on OSX 10.8.2

I can't install Airport Utility on OSX 10.8.2 so that I can install Airport Extreme.  Error message says the version of Mac OS X is not supported.  What can I do? Easily!

You have to install AirPort Utility from the disc if you're using Windows on your PC, so that's because Apple doesn't say it. Also, you could have bought an old AirPort Extreme that includes an older AirPort version for another Mac OS X

  • I have an old Airport Extreme that I want to password protect. I being told that Airport Utility 5.6 is needed to manage the base station. When I download it and try to install that utility I told that it is not compatible with OS X 10.7.4

The odds are that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.....which will only work with Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.

  • How to Patch on Windows (same as OPatch utility)???

    Hi All,
I am applying a JDBC patch in oracle (using OPatch utility) with OS Sun SPARC... But I got an issue while applying the patch and oracle says that OPatch 10.2.0.4.3 has an internal bug..
My questions is How I can apply the same patch (it's paltform independent) in Windows OS ??
Do we need to use OPatch option or what's the altrenate utility to apply patch in windows??
    Thanks a lot...

I am sure you need following steps.....I have struggled my way once... not tough though...
    happy patching :)))
    1) set oracle_home= < oracle home>
    2) set PATH=<oracle home>\Opatch;%PATH%
    3) run "opatch lsinventory" to know that everything is set properly
    4) go to patch directory where you have extracted patch and run "opatch apply"

i cannot install airport utility 5.6 onto my computer although i need it to configure an older airport express and base station

Here is my method.. the software is free that is required.. always a good point.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • Installed Airport Utility 5.6.1; now "Server Connection Interrupted"

Software Update just prompted me to install Airport Utility 5.6.1, which I did.  Since then Time Machine has done two backups, and both times I have received multiple messages saying "Server Connection Interrupted" and showing an icon of my Time Capsule.  I have always clicked ignore, and the backup has seemed to continue.  I hope the backups are accurate, but I don't really know.  All insights welcome.  Thank you.

Time Machine has been backing up without incident for a couple of days now, so I guess the problem must've been with my ISP and the timing with the update just coincidental.  Doesn't look as if anyone else has had a similar problem.
