Install Oracle 11g R2 64-bit on Windows 7 home premium

Hi Guys
I'm a little pissed off.I've installed Oracle 11g R2 a few times now..on windows xp without any issues but the first time I've tried to install 11g R2 64-bit on my new laptop and it just won't work.
The installation goes just fine until step 4 System class and I chose Desktop class and the installation program just hangs.
I've done the following steps
1: Installed Java SDK 6 update 31 in the following directory C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_31
2: I've also disabled User account control settings to never notify.
3: I've tried unzipping the two zip files separately and together with the same result.(hung installation)
4: updated java_home and path environment variables with the java sdk directory. (My path does have other values which have a space between directory names..ive tried
removing all those entries and just keeping the java directory entry but it still gave me the same error)
5: I always kick off the installation setup.exe file as an administrator.
I'ld appreciate some help....
Tks

DDid you read the prereqs in the fine Installation Guide? No oracle product is certified on any "home" edition of any version of Windows.

    Hi,
I have a requirement to Install Both "Oracle Client 11.2.0.2 Win32" and "Oracle Client 11.2.0.2 Win64" on a single server.
Please provide the step by step instruction for the above requirement.
    Environment
    Windows Server 2008 R2 64Bit.
    Thanks

Just use separate base directories e.g.
    c:\32bit\oracle and
    c:\64bit\oracle
Install the 32-bit client first, then the 64-bit client. The order should not matter.

    Ummm .... client license?
All license questions should be addressed to Oracle.  I believe what you'll find is that the license for client installation is free.  What you pay to license and support is the rdbms (server) software.
But all licensing questions should be addressed directly to Oracle.  A license agreement is a legal issue, and this forum will have no standing in court.

  • Installing Oracle 11g client 32 bit, on a windows 64 bit platform

    Hi all,
I was searching the forum and came and found out that PL/SQL developer is only 32 bit for the time being and can only be used with a 32 bit oracle client. I need to use PL/SQL developer so I want to know that will a 32 bit client work perfectly with the 64 bit windows 7? Or will there be any issues?
    Thanks

Thanks for your support, but these notes are not opening up.
i went to this link https://blogs.oracle.com/db/entry/master_note_for_oracle_database_client_installation_id_11574631
but whenever i open the note i get the error,
    Failure of server APACHE bridge:

Kindly help me if i'm missing something here.

  • Installing Oracle 11g database (release 2) on Windows 7 Professional 64bit

    Hi All,
I am having a problem installing the Oracle database, I go to the site and download the 2 Oracle zip files.
    I create a directory C:\temp\
I unzip "1of2" and place the "database" folder in my "temp" folder.
Question 1: In the "2of2" do I take the database/stage/components and place them in the "1of2" database/stage/components folder? not sure how to merge the contents of the zips but this seems like the logical thing to do.
    Then I run setup.exe.
    Oracle Universal Installer:
Screen 1: I enter email, and uncheck the oracle support box "i wish to receive security updatesvia My Oracle Support".
Note: little "connection failed" popup box, I check it's box "I want to remain uninformed if critical security issues in my configuration", click continue.
Screen 2: install database software only.
Screen 3: Single instance database installation.
    Screen 4: I select "English"
Screen 5: I choose to install "Enterprise Edition"
Screen 6: it shows me Oracle base C:\app\<myuser>
    software location: C:\app\<myuser>\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1
Screen 7: validating target environment to meet minimum installation loading bar.
ERROR: gets to 100% and the entire OUI abruptly closes with no warning or error message. No further Installation or anything.
please provide so insight on this, I am total at a loss right now and need to get this working.
    thank you,
    Josefina

I suggested Linux in '04 I came from an IBM z/os background and did not want Windows. Oh well. What "Oh well"?? I was commending you for moving away from Winows. ;-)
I started my career on IBM system 360 and was on its descendant up to z/os before moving to the DBA role in a client server enviornment. With that I worked with Windows, OS/2, OpenVMS, and several flavors of nix.  I always* recommend against Windows for anything besides end-user desktop ... and that only because of Windows's pervasiveness in that arena.

Is it really that easy to just install Oracle 11g R1 (64-bit) and take a 9.2.0.7 dmp (Windows) and import it in?
I do not have anything else to do? What about data type differences etc......I have some Blobs and Clobs in this database.I've never had the opportunity to work with clobs and blobs, but I do understand there are some issues there with exp and imp. I understand there are methods for dealing with it, but it does add a bit more complexity. Aside from that, it really is that easy. When using exp/imp to move data between different versions of oracle, always exp with the utility from the lower version and imp with that of the version being imported into.

    Thank you for your time.

Installation Guides should be clear enough, if read. Also read Release Notes for additional support/unsupport info.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/reqs.htm#CHDHGGFE
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24187/pre_install.htm
However the Installation Guide for Database Client adds:
"Note: Oracle provides 32-bit (Windows x86) and 64-bit (Windows x64) versions of Oracle Database Client. _Oracle certifies 32-bit Oracle Database Client on Windows x64_." (underline added)

  • About memory issue during installing Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003

    Hi, all
When I installed Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003 which the server is a virtual server, Oracle only can detect 2G memory.
But there are 4G memory with my server.
I want to know if the Oracle 11g's new feature or the virtual server lead the issue.
Also , I want to get your help to resolve the issue, thanks a lot.

    Let me get this straight:
You have created some virtual machine using someone's unknown VM software.
You have installed Windows Server 2003 (perhaps, but not confirmed 32-bit) to that VM.
You have allocated 4GB of memory to the VM (we guess ... not sure I'm ready to take your word on this)
You are attempting to install Oracle 11g (presumably 11gR1 32 bit for Windows) in the VM
And the Oracle (installer?) seems to be reporting that you only have 2GB RAM.
Since I personally have installed Oracle 11g 32bit for Windows on Windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM and had no issues, I would be investigating the (unknown) VM environment.

  • Error INstalling Oracle 11g on Windows8 64 bit

    Hi Geeks,
I have windows 8 64 bit sony Via system.
I want to install oracle 11g on it.
I have downloaded the setup in my E:\Oracle 11g setup.
Now I get two folder post unzipping the two archivwe files
    E:\Oracle 11g setup\win64_11gR2_database_1of2\
    E:\Oracle 11g setup\win64_11gR2_database_2of2
Now the doubt that I have is there are database folder in each of the two folder , so is it necessary to copy and paste database folder from second directory I,e *"E:\Oracle 11g setup\win64_11gR2_database_2of2"* into the first directory...for continuing with the installation ???????????
    Please respond

Thanks Guys for your response..I have managed to install 11g on my system and runnig the queries succesfully now..
    What i did is :
1] Created a new folder "oracle Install".
2]ctrl+ selected both the zip files i had downloaded from Oracle site and then uncompressed them into "oracle Install".
3] then ran the setup from Oracle Install...
while doing this process also i got warning lime system dosent meets the requirements....but continued with the installation and it ran succesfully...
what was different this time was previously when i had not done above 3 steps installation would fail saying some of the .dll files not found...but after this approach no file not found issues came...
Lucky to have it installed ...
If you consider it lucky to be running on an certified OS, where every issue you may run into will mean having to hack your own solution.
When IBM upgraded their COBOL to COBOL-85 they warned that - due to very tight linkages between the compiler and the OS - if we remained with the older compiler "everything will continue to work as before, until such time as it doesn't".
I'd say that's a very close analogy, and for exactly the same reasons. Tight linkage between the product and the OS. You hacked an installation, so things will work .... until such time as they don't.
Would want to install a VM ware on my system and then Linux OS..then try installing Oracle on it too..

  • Install Oracle 11g client on Windows 7

    Hi,
I am getting an error while installing Oracle 11g R1 client(11.1.0.7.0) on Windows 7 x32.
Error: OUI-18001: The operating system 'Windows Vista Version 6.1' is not supported.
Recommendation : install the recommended service pack.

Only for Oracle 10g client installation on win 7 32, 64 bit
To get going with oracle on windows 7 64-bit. You can install oracle 10g 32 which you use for windows XP. Its unusal but successful. Install 10G it will get installed on program files x86. Then open tnsnames.ora files which will be either in program files x86/oracle/....search or it will be in c:\oracle...write the correct server name in tnsnames and in PB while doing the configuration..write tns:servername in the server textbox. I did that and it got connected...incase u need any help let me know my email address is [email protected]
    cheers

  • Install oracle 10.2.0.5 on windows 7 32 bits

    Hi all ,
I want to install oracle 10.2.0.5 on windows 7 (32bits) but in the websit I found <B>"Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.5) Enterprise/Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows (64-bit Itanium)" [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/10201winsoft64-090455.html] </B>, and in the documentation I found : <B>"Oracle Database and Oracle Database Client 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.5 or later) are supported on Windows 7 (32-bit and x64)."</B>.
Could you please tell me whether this oracle client for win 7 32bits or give me the link wher I can download oracle for win 7 32bits.
    Many thanks,

10.2.0.5 is a patchset that you will need to download from My Oracle Support. You will need a valid CSI with Oracle for you to download the patch. I suggest you to install the 11gR2 Client on Windows 7.
Can you please tell me which version of Oracle Server will you be interacting with using the 10.2.0.5 Client.
