Install ORACLE 8.1.6 and 9i on HP UNIX 11.20 (11i)

Hi,
When I install ORACLE 8.1.6 and/or 9i on HP UNIX 11i (11.20, hardware: i2000 workstation), I got the following error message:
Exception thrown from action: make
Exception Name: MakefileException
Exception String: Error in invoking target nnfgt.o of makefile
/opt/oracle/product/8.1.6/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
Exception Severity: 1
Would appreciate very much if someone can help to analyse the cause of the problem.

But when I configure the "Configuring the Classic Instance" under the "Oracle Classic 11g-Home1". It's always pending in "Creating the domain". No any Error information.

Since your weblogic is on version 10.3.3, you can only succesfully configure your fusion middleware when you are on version 11.1.1.3.
So (1) restart the install of fusion middleware 11.1.1.2, (2) choose install type INSTALL ONLY, (3) start installation of fusion middleware 11.1.1.3 and finally (4) configure fusion middleware using AS_ORACLE_HOME\bin\config.bat

Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.2.0) for Linux x86-64.
I have installed weblogic 10.3.5 generic jar file.
When i try to install forms and reports server the configuration step fails while creating weblogic domain.
Please help me installing portal and reports.
Is there any patch i am missing or the weblogic version is incorrect?

You cannot configure Fmw 11.1.1.2 against WLS 10.3.5. They are not supported nor compatible.
If you want to use WLS 10.3.5, you need to "install" 11.1.1.2, but do not configure. That is an installation option. After you have successfully installed 11.1.1.2 you will need to patch it to 11.1.1.6. After patching, you then can run the configuration (config.bat).

You said, "...+I would like to install Release 2(11.1.1.2.0)+ ...". Be careful. 11.1.1.2.0 is not Release 2. The version for Rel 2 is 11.1.2.0, notice that there is one less "1". Also, there is no way to patch from Release 1 to Release 2.

Installed Oracle Application Server 10g and Dev. Suite 10g to self practice

I have Installed Oracle Application Server 10g and Developer Suite 10g on Windows XP 32.bit to practice Developer suite specially Forms and reports. Server has created the database by default.
My questions are:
1. Can i use default database for practice?
2. Which Configuration Assistants mainly i need to configure in this regard?
3. Do i need to install anything else?
I am newbie to Oracle trying to self learning.

Install Oracle XE, SQL Developer, and Toad on the same machine?

I have been trying to install Oracle SQL Developer, Toad, and Oracle Express on my work computer. Installing SQL Developer and Toad was pretty straightforward, and I was able to browse the XE database with SQL Developer. But after installing Toad, problems started. Toad was using Oracle XE's registry settings to locate ORACLE_HOME and oci.dll. So I tried changing the settings for Oracle XE in the registry. Toad now works, but not Oracle XE. And while I was going through this all, I even had a time when I had Toad and oracle xe working, but not SQL Developer. It almost looks like you can choose two of the products, but not all three.
So, my question to the community at large is "Can it be done?". In what directories do you have each product installed? What environment variables do you have set? Where is your tnsnames.ora? What Oracle registry settings do you have set (namely HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ORACLE\KEY_XE)?
I can post my current settings, but I've been through so many iterations that these current settings don't really matter that much.

I don't use toad, but there should be no reason why you can't install all 3. SQL Developer is a very clean install and affects nothing else. It doesn't add to the path, or create any registry entries except for file associations.
A toad installation should pick up your oracle client (in this case the XE code). I am curious as to why you felt you had to change registry settings. What problem were you trying to fix?
My recommendation would be to uninstall everything, clean the registry and reinstall in the order XE, Toad, SQL Developer. Test in between installations and seek help for problems as you find them. Bear in mind that this is the forum for SQL Developer. QUestions about Oracle XE would be better answered in the dedicated forum, or in the Installation forum, and questions about Toad in a toad forum.

Installing Oracle 8.1.5 and 8.1.6

I have installed Oracle Enterprise Edition 8.1.5 on a stand alone PC under windows 98. Installation has been done perfectly when I go for SQL by entering scott/tiger it is telling some times no adopter, some time NO Listener even I have given Service Name and Databse name configured Lisener and done everything. But still I could not able to get SQL prompt.
This is happening with Oracle Personel Edition 8.1.6 also the same. I tried by Admininstration, Programmer, Client and Custom. Still I could not able to solve the problem.
After installing is there any opetion to open database like in Oracle 8.0.
Please give the solution.....

Hi Experts!
i need to install Oracle database and oracle application server on the same machine(windows xp).
when i install both of them and reboot the machine either oracle database or oracle application server fails...
i suspect that the problem might be due to two - ORACLE_HOME
let me know how i can resolve this issue.
Note: Oracle DB and OAS OPMN process run as a windows service.

RSFs, where the database uses 10.2.x. This leads to
conflicts.

this should not prevent startup and should not be

Oracle assumes you can connect to the internet, a not unreasonable assumption these days, even if it means downloading to another computer then moving the zips around. Installing Oracle Fusion 11gR2 Forms and Reports only

Hello Everyone,
now that i have the Web logic Server (10.3.6) up and running to include the Admin Server on a windows operating system, does anyone have a watered down easy step by step process to install Forms/Reports 11gR2?
also, i already had an oracle database instance up and running prior to the weblogic install, does this need to be moved into a domain within weblogic?

Additionally, I didn't see anything on how others would actually come into the site? so once everything is setup and works, and i provide a link to others for testing the application, what gets passed so that the application will pull up?

Installing Oracle APPS - Burning DVDs and installing from then!!!

I'm finishing the download of Oracle Application 11i (33GB) and i don't have space enough to create a staging area and install from this area. I want to install from DVDs. How can i do that? What files i burn in each DVD?? What is the order?? Can i unzip some of these downloaded files and burn a DVD and do it again until it finish??

I was install and unzip all DVD-s (9 pcs) into main HDD (60GB c:\stage12\)
and when I was run PROD installation I was modify path to
E:\ - external HDD with 250 GB !!! where I was creating instalation path
E:\oracle\prod.
(VIS installation need 250 GB min!)
I have and one more HDD (externall too!!) with 160GB
So, u need definitelly one more hdd or one with min 250 GB or 1/2 terabytes

Back to Linux and your example, I have used such interfaces for many years too. Unfortunately we often have to use what is provided. However, the reason for the text interface is no longer valid, unless your input device is only a text based terminal.Not as much the input device - heck, pure tty devices are pretty much a thing of the past. It is about the complexity of the infrastructure between you and the device you need to administer. And about the task you need to perform.
The connectivity can mean being unable to run a GUI - due to performance, firewalls, router configurations and so on. The task at hand could very well be easily done, using the relevant o/s commands via a command line interface.
I think there is nothing against a GUI app that runs on your PC to sends appropriate commands to a text interface over a slow serial link, apart from the effort that is required to interact with errors, etc.Much more complex than that. A terminal server is usually used - and it attaches to the serial/RS232 connections of multiple devices that need to be administered. It will typically reside on a separate management network too, and not on the local company/corporate intranet.
So for you to access a device to administer, you need an open firewall to the management network to reach the management server that handles the serial console connection for the device you want to administer. You need a valid o/s account on that terminal server. You need to use ssh to access the command line of that terminal server. You need to enter the relevant command that will attach your ssh session to the RS232 console connection to the device to administer.
There is no GUI app on your side that can not only automagically do all this for you, but also provide you with GUI admin widgets to send commands to the remote device. Even if that remote device being sysadmin'ed is Linux, different distros and different versions of the same distros, means different commands, variances in command line parameters for such commands, and so on.
A sysadmin that cannot deal with such situations, and need a GUI as a crutch to administer a device.. I for one will not call that person a sysadmin. I would call the person incompetent instead. Harsh views perhaps, but being sysadmin is an unforgiving job. A mistake, or inability to access a device and fix it using the bare minimum, could result in severe financial loss for the company.

Installing Oracle Entitlements Server (Derby) and oracle.security.apm.derby.ear not found

I'm try to setup an evaluation domain for OES so I followed the setup for using the derby database. I have the derby schema setup correctly and I have create the OES domain using the Oracle Entitlesments Server Derby Template - 11.1.1.0. This goes through fine, but when I start the server I am getting the below error. The oracle.security.apm.derby.ear file is not in that location nor is it anywhere in the oracle home dir. So I'm not sure whats wrong, doing a search for the oracle.security.apm.derby.ear file on google returns nothing.

I too come accross this issue. But, I didn't installed any patch on top of OES.
I just rebuild the OES schema in database and it started perfectly. Hope it helps.
B/W did you tried to configure external user store to OES like LDAP??
