Install Oracle 8.1.7 (64 bit) on AIX 5L

Hi all,
I'm installing Oracle 8.1.7 (64 bit) on IBM AIX 5L and everything goes fine while copying files, but there are problems in the relinking phase. I've installed the 32 bit version and it works, so the problem seems to be with the 64 bit version.
Can anybody tell me if Oracle 8.1.7 (64 bit) cannot be installed on AIX 5L?
Thanks in advance.

Are u booting the kernel in 64 bit mode?
Installation guide has the following note:
NOTE: As of 25-Oct-2001, the only version of Oracle8i certified for use on AIX 5.1 is 32-bit 8.1.7, which requires that the AIX 5.1 system is booted in 32-bit kernel mode. Booting the AIX 5.1 system in 64-bit kernel mode will not work with either 32-bit or 64-bit 8.1.7.
hope this helps

  • How to install oracle database in window7-64 bit corei3 processor?

    Hi All,
please help me in installing oracle database on window7 64 bit machine with corei3 processor.
i have tried to install oracle 10g but not able to install. Is any higher version of oracle will work with same configuration?

You may have better luck with 11.2.0.1, from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
10.2.0.5 is the earliest version certified for Windows 7. Note that no Home edition of Windows 7 is supported, you should use Professional and up.

  • Problem Installing Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit on Windows 7 Enterprise 64

    Hi,
I am having problems installing the Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit installation on my Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise machine. The installer does all the checks successfully, it gets me to summary screen and I press finish to start the installation. It then opens the installation mask where it first says Checking whether Central Inventory is locked by another OUI session. After that it very briefly shows Central Inventory is not locked and then the window immediately dissapears with no other errors. I tried installing at my colleague's W7 Enterprise 64 machine and it behaves a little differently but with the same result. Basically on his machine it never even opens the Install mask, when pressing finish from the Summary it just disappears and never starts installation. I tried installing 11g R1 and that loads the first mask and when i press next it just dissapears. I basically need an oracle client 64 bit installation on my machine deperately. Please help. Thanks
    Alex

One user above reported installing the 64 bit odbc drivers and then the 32 bit drivers. How did you do that? I'm a neophyte to this.
I'm trying to get a 32 bit ODBC oracle driver to work on a server 2008 R2 machine. I downloaded the 11gR2 x64 client from oracle. The install process makes no mention of 32bit vs 64bit installation. After running the instalation I can run the ODBC administrator and generate a DSN for oracle. When I run the 32 ODBC administrator there is no oracle driver available except the microsoft driver for oracle. When I select that it says that I need to install oracle.
I had at first tried to install 11g instant client. However that didn't work for the 2008 R2 machine. It complained about some registry error when I tried to run the ODBC install program. I need to get it to work for a customer asap.

I am having issues. I get "Central Inventory is not locked" and Oracle 11g R2 just closes itself.
I had some previous installations of Oracle, but I am unsure how to get rid of them all. I already removed the registry keys associated with Oracle. Any help here?

  • Error INstalling Oracle 11g on Windows8 64 bit

    Hi Geeks,
I have windows 8 64 bit sony Via system.
I want to install oracle 11g on it.
I have downloaded the setup in my E:\Oracle 11g setup.
Now I get two folder post unzipping the two archivwe files
    E:\Oracle 11g setup\win64_11gR2_database_1of2\
    E:\Oracle 11g setup\win64_11gR2_database_2of2
Now the doubt that I have is there are database folder in each of the two folder , so is it necessary to copy and paste database folder from second directory I,e *"E:\Oracle 11g setup\win64_11gR2_database_2of2"* into the first directory...for continuing with the installation ???????????
    Please respond

Thanks Guys for your response..I have managed to install 11g on my system and runnig the queries succesfully now..
    What i did is :
1] Created a new folder "oracle Install".
2]ctrl+ selected both the zip files i had downloaded from Oracle site and then uncompressed them into "oracle Install".
3] then ran the setup from Oracle Install...
while doing this process also i got warning lime system dosent meets the requirements....but continued with the installation and it ran succesfully...
what was different this time was previously when i had not done above 3 steps installation would fail saying some of the .dll files not found...but after this approach no file not found issues came...
Lucky to have it installed ...
If you consider it lucky to be running on an certified OS, where every issue you may run into will mean having to hack your own solution.
When IBM upgraded their COBOL to COBOL-85 they warned that - due to very tight linkages between the compiler and the OS - if we remained with the older compiler "everything will continue to work as before, until such time as it doesn't".
I'd say that's a very close analogy, and for exactly the same reasons. Tight linkage between the product and the OS. You hacked an installation, so things will work .... until such time as they don't.
Would want to install a VM ware on my system and then Linux OS..then try installing Oracle on it too..

  • Steps to follow for Installing Oracle SOA 11g in 64 bit Windows 7 machine

    Hi,
I have successfully installed Oracle SOA 11g components in Windows 32 bit machine by following the downloading the installers for Windows 32 bit and following the steps mentioned in the Quick Start Guide for SOA Suite and BPM Suite.
Now I am trying to install Oracle SOA components in Windows 7 64 bit machine. Are the installation steps I followed for 32 bit is applicable for 64 bit too?Or are there any difference?
In the download section of installers,I could see one for 32 bit, linux and generic. Can you guide me which one I need to download for 64 bit machine?
    Thanks in advance.

I followed for 32 bit is applicable for 64 bit too?Or are there any difference?Steps followed for 32 bit installation would be same as for 64 bit. The only difference would be 64 bit JDK as it's required for win 7 to run the installation binaries of SOA Suite.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-se-jdk-7-download-432154.html
I could see one for 32 bit, linux and generic. Can you guide me which one I need to download for 64 bit machine? You can use even 32 bit installer for 64 bit machine ( it works like charm for DEV like environment)...
but as per Oracle doc they prefer to use generic installer.

  • OR110264.SAR can't be unpacked installing oracle 10.2 and 4.7 in AIX

    Hello,
I am installing 4.7 Enterprise with oracle 10.2 in AIX 5.3 platform and when sapinst tries to unpack Oracle rdbms it fails after a few files are processed with the error:
    CJS-00096  Extract archive failed.
SOLUTION: See log file OR110264.SAR.log for details.
    Cheking the log it says:
SAPCAR: error reading from /auxiliar/cds/rdbms/51031672_1/OR410264.SAR (error 5).
I have checked permissions and are right, also checking space and i have 10gb in the stage filesystem.
I have checked the limits for root in the /etc/security/limits and also with the comand: unlimit -a and all the settings are unlimited for root.
I don't know the meaning of error 5 in sapcar.
I have notice that the files bigger than 1Gb can´t be uncompress, and also i have updated the sapcar to the latest vesion.
Could anyone help me with this problem?
    Any help will be apreciated?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
I resolved the problem but i am still not sure why this happened. I thought it was a problem with limits in AIX, but I reviewed all the configuration files and couldn't resolve it that way.
We discovered extracting the individual files that it was the first one which couln't be unzipped, but the others where ok, so the installation hanged and could not continue while extracting the first file.
After many tries, we discovered that if you merge the 3 files, the binary sapcar could extract it with no problems, very strage, so we did the following:
-Merged the 3 files in just one, in the windows system like this:
    D:\cds_for_AIX\RDBMS_Ora102\51031672_1\unpack>C:\copia_cds\SAPCAR_0-10003694.exe -mvf "OR110264.SAR OR210264.SAR"
    D:\cds_for_AIX\RDBMS_Ora102\51031672_1\unpack>C:\copia_cds\SAPCAR_0-10003694.exe -mvf "OR210264.SAR OR310264.SAR"
    D:\cds_for_AIX\RDBMS_Ora102\51031672_1\unpack>C:\copia_cds\SAPCAR_0-10003694.exe -mvf "OR310264.SAR OR410264.SAR "
    - The resulting file was OR410264.SAR which could be extracted without problems.
So, i transfered this merge file to the AIX system and renamed to OR110264.SAR which was the filename which could not be extracted.
    - Now, when i restarted sapinst. It took the OR110264.SAR (which was really a merged one). The file 2 and 3 was ok and the 4 one was also the merged one.
So, the result is that is extracting several times the same thing but no worries, the final result was that sapinst passed the phase.
I know this was a rare solution, but it works!!!
I think there is a problem with this oracle files in sapnet.
    Try it, it will work
