  • How to install Oracle 817 Client on Redhat Linux7.2

    I try to install oracle 817 client on a dell server running Redhat Linux7.2, the installer won't start. Are there any pre-requisites I have to set for client install to work on linux? Does 817 installer work on Linux7.2?
    Thanks,

    Joe,
    I have the same issue. It's probably due to an incompatibility of the jdk 1.1.8 on the CD.
    Have you tried using another one ? http://www.blackdown.org/

  • Installing oracle 817 on redhat 7.1

    Could someone please help me? I'm trying to install oracle 817
    on redhat 7.1 i did all the prework and also installed java
    sdk1.3.1, and set my path also.
    when I try to run the ./runInstaller or even the
    install/linux/runInstaller, i get this error, Java runtime
    environment not found e/bin/jre.............
    the e at e/bin/jre had a little mark on top of it, i have no
    idea what that means. I diged through some documentation and
    the only reference that i found saids something about long file
    name. Has anyone else came across this and what would be the
    fix to this?
    Thank you.

    Hello.
    You dont need any java to install 8.1.7 in RedHat 7.1
    Just make a full installation of RedHat and for running the
    runInstaller export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 before
    I dont know if this are in the RelaseNotes of Disk1 of RedHat 7.0
    or 7.1

  • Problem installing oracle 817 Personal Edition in non-interactive mode

    When I install oracle 817 PE in silent mode, if there's a pre-8.1.6 version of Oracle already installed the Oracle Data Migration Assistant pops up. This is exactly what I don't want to happen. Is there a way to keep ODMA from launching? Thank you.

    It is not possible installing Oracle in WINDOWS ME platform, because this won't support for ORACLE. Unfortunately ORACLE also have no version for WINDOWS ME. If possible, upgrade your OS to WINDOWS 2000 or downgrade to WINDOWS 98 and try it.

  • Installed oracle 817--mod_ose missing

    I have installed Oracle Version 8.17 on Solaris Sparc.
    I intend to run jsp and buisiness objects in Oracle 817.
    As far as I understand the documentation I have to enable the mod_ose.
    Beside all configuration files and documentations, there is no mod_ose.so which can be loaded by apache nor is any load statement in mod__ose.conf.
    Greetings J|rgen

    Ok here some improvements, i did the exactly what you said , and reboot the machine and i got http server successfully started , but when i access http://<hostname>/pls/portal30
    it took 10-20 mins and came up with "internal server error"
    and i check the error_log and found alot of Java exception throws ,
    one of them is org.apache.java.util.Configurations.getstring(Configurations.getstring)
    I can send the error log if you want to take a look at it..
    is it because modose conf? where can i found the modose info? how it works?

  • Oracle 817 does not want to install on RH Linux (ORA-03113)

    I am trying to install Oracle 817 on RH Linux with kernel
    2.4.17. I have modified various recommended parameters
    as described in the doc and recompiled the kernel.
    But each time I try to create a database, I would be getting this error:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    Please help!! My system has 512 MB of ram and 1GB of swap.
    It is a Pentium III about 700 MHZ.

    After Forms 6i it is only possible to run the Forms web based. Inside the the Developer Suite you can find an OC4J which allows you to run the Forms locally on the Development PC.
    There are setting in the formsweb.cfg which allows you to do some configuration. For instance the look and feel which is by default the green color. The size of your window which makes your current window smaller than your Form.
    At your last question. Do you want the other user to make use of your Forms or make use of your database. If you want him to make use of your Forms, the other user could call the locally installed OC4J with the http-address. If you want the user to make use of the database, the other pc should have a installed client software or make use a tool like SQL Developer to connect over JDBC.

  • Oracle 817 client not available in ODBC Data Source Administrator pick list...

    I have installed Oracle 817 client on a PC.
    I can see the server, I can see the instance.
    I can log into the instance using SQLPlus with no problem.
    The product I'm using requires an ODBC connection configured in the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
    When I try to configure it in the DSA, Oracle 8 is not in the list.
    HELP!

    I assume you have Windows on the client. The "Drivers" page of the ODBC_DSA should list all installed drivers. You require:
    name= Oracle ODBC Driver
    version= 8.01.07.00 (or something similar)
    company= Oracle Corporation DO NOT USE the Microsoft one.
    If this does not show, then either it was not included in the Oracle Client installation or you have not rebooted after the Oracle Client installation; the ODBC driver is not visible until rebooted.

  • Oracle 817 installation on P4 machines

    I'm having a problem installing Oracle 817 on a Compaq P4 machine. I copied the entire CD to the C: drive, made changes to 3 lines of code in oraparam.ini Jre_memory_location
    default_home_location and
    default_home_name
    I also changed the name of the file - symcjit.dll to symcjit.old
    When I run setup I get the error - The Java runtime environment was not found at bin\jrew.exe.
    Can anyone make any suggestions to resolve this problem.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    If you're getting "command not found" then the location where you've setup odbcinst and the other files is not in your PATH setting. I'd suggest moving them from /usr to /usr/local/bin or the SuSe equivalent that's already in your PATH.
    Cheers,
    Stuart.

  • Oracle 817 for redhat7.3 install

    Hi
    I am trying to installing Oracle 8.1.7 on Redhat 7.3. When it comes to execute ‘dbasist’ ,screen shows ‘Select the nodes which will be a part of this oracle Parallel server database’ and ‘the Node(s)’ is null ,the computer cannot give me a reply in four hours.I donnot know whether it is normal or not and I am still waiting now.
    Thank you
    atonce

    thx 4 ur suggestion
    my sqlnet.ora on the client contains:
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
    which i don't see a problem, while my listener doesn't require
    authentication. and i don't have sqlnet.ora on the server.
    somehow, i think the problem is on the server side
    i removed the line that sets instance_name in my init<SID>.ora
    file, and this stops the service registration in my listener
    (refer to http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?id=521570)
    although the above solves my problem, i think that this is
    illegal

  • Install Oracle 8.1.7 on Sun 5.7 0899

    Can somebody help me with the following problem ?
    When installing Oracle 8.1.7 , i found the error message
    "Error in invoking target install of makefile /u01/app/product/817/plsal/lib/ins_plsql.mk"
    Does that error come from the swap space ? because i saw the error log like this "...: java.io.IOException: Not enough space"
    Thank!

    I have seen this before.
    Quick Fix:
    The problem with files still named xxxxxO is caused by the install. Sometimes it
    works to just copy the file in this case:
    $cp lsnrctlO lsnrctl
    There are probably other files that were not renamed by the install:
    Finally, the listener can run! yipee.. :)
    It failed to run because there're some file 'missing'.
    I told u before, lsnrctl didn't exist in my box. Well, I found that not only lnsrctl.
    There're three more files needed to be renamed. So, total in the list are
    dbsnmp, lsnrctl, tnslsnr, and oratclsh.
    All of them still have their odd xxxxO name (I should have known it from
    the start).
    Once I copied all the file to their 'proper' name, the listener can start
    successfully. (Though i think the listener need only lsnrctl and tnslsnr,
    i still renamed them all).
    But I wonder, why does the installer not rename those files?
    I found that those file were created normally during installation, until
    i run setup_stubs.sh.
    Is there any bug on setup_stubs.sh? Why you didn't experience it as I did?
    However, the most important things is, the database running well :)

  • Why can't install Oracle 8.1.7 in Redhat 7,1

    Please see this page first: http://linuxfab.cx/indexEasy.php
    if you really want to install, please run these files first:
    compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm
    compat-egcs-c++-6.2-1.1.2.9.i386.rpm
    compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
    compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm
    and try again.

    Here's the easy way to do it.
    1. Install EVERYTHING into your drive from Redhat 7.1; that's right choose 'EVERYTHING' when prompted at the 7.1 install.
    (You need about 2GB to fit the 7.1 install plus the additional 2GB for oracle)
    (Make a user named 'oracle' who will load and administer the database)
    2. Type the following at the root command prompt:
    groupadd oinstall
    groupadd dba
    groupadd oper
    useradd oracle -g oinstall -G dba,oper
    passwd oracle (it will prompt you for the password)
    3. (Now let's make the directories and assign ownership starting from the root directory)
    cd /
    mkdir oraclestage
    mkdir orahome
    mkdir ora1
    mkdir ora2
    mkdir ora3
    (the ora1,2,...etc should be mount points on different physical disks, but just make directories if you only have one disk)
    4. (Now assign ownership to the directories)
    chown oracle.dba /oraclestage
    chmod 775 /oraclestage
    chown oracle.dba /orahome
    chmod 775 /orahome
    chown oracle.dba /ora1
    chmod 775 /ora1
    chown oracle.dba /ora2
    chmod 775 /ora2
    chown oracle.dba /ora3
    chmod 775 /ora3
    (Next log out as root and log in as oracle using the password you assigned)
    5. (Now set up environmental variables IF YOU SCREW THIS UP IT WONT WORK!!!SO PAY ATTENTION)
    (Go into the place where user oracle's environment variables are kept...)
    cd /home/oracle
    more .bash_profile
    (look at your .bash_profile file. You're going to replace it with the one below...
    the easiest way to do this is to copy the contents of this file into Linux and save it as 'myfile', then place it in the /home/oracle directory. Then type:
    cp myfile .bash_profile
    at the command prompt. Say yes if asked to replace file)
    Here's the file contents:
    # .bash_profile
    # Get the aliases and functions
    if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
    . ~/.bashrc
    fi
    # User specific environment and startup programs
    #PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
    #BASH_ENV=$HOME/.bashrc
    #export BASH_ENV PATH
    #unset USERNAME
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    ./usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
    ORACLE_BASE=/orahome; export ORACLE_BASE
    ORACLE_HOME=/orahome; export ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_SID=ORCL; export ORACLE_SID
    PATH=$PATH:/orahome/bin; export PATH
    CLASSPATH=:/orahome/jdbc/lib/classes111.zip; export CLASSPATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/orahome/lib; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    umask 022
    ORA_NLS33=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/ocommon/nls/admin/data; export ORA_NLS33
    NLS_LANG=american; export NLS_LANG
    5.1(notice the following lines:
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    ./usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
    These are designed to make oracle compatible with LINUX. The ./usr/i386...etc. is a script that has to fire off to make oracle 817 run off a backward version of the glibc library. If this script fails when logging into the box as user oracle, then run it from the command line after you get into the box. You may have to run it from root, but fire it off.
    6. Get your oracle817 tar file and copy it to the 'oraclestage' folder. Log in as root and untar it to expand it. The command is:
    tar xvf linux*...etc (whatever...)
    7. Next get the jdk118_v3 file from http://java.sun.com and put that on in your user/local directory. As the root user, untar it and make a symbolic link as follows:
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java)
    8. Go back to the /oraclestage as user 'oracle' and do a 'cd Disk1' at the command prompt and then do a './runInstaller' from the prompt. Keep in mind that you have to be in xwindows for the latter to work. Put oracle into the 'orahome' directory. You don't need all the obnoxious 12-mile-long path statements, just put the thing into orahome.
    That will get oracle817 going on your Redhat 7.1 box. It works for me. You don't have to deal with all that 'compat-glibc' loading shit. Just do an 'everything' install and it will work. Beside, what if you want to start using the box as a Linux box also? Do you want to keep searching for *.rpm files when you need extra functionality? Just throw them all in when you install.

  • How recreate/install Oracle 8i

    Hi,
    I've Oracle 8.1.7.4 installed on HP-UX (machine 1).
    I connect with root user and the ORACLE_HOME is /opt/ora817/product/817
    Now I need to install the Oracle 8.1.7.4 on another machine HP-UX like this but I haven't the installer and I can not download it from the Oracle site.
    I have transferred all the data into new HP-UX machine (machine 2) from machine 1, particularly I have transferred:
    ORACLE_HOME: /opt/ora817/product/817
    /home/oracle
    datafiles, control files and redo log files.
    Now I need to start the database on the new machine HP-UX.
    Can someone tell me what steps I have to to perform in order to start the database?

    You can clone the Oracle software, this works in 10g and 11g. Hopefully yes in 8i also.
    Follow the below steps and see if it works:
    1)Use tar command to create zipped archive of oracle software 8i
    say 8i home is /u01/app/oracle/817
    cd /u01/app/oracle
    tar -pcvf 817.tar 817
    2)scp the tar file to other host
    3)untar the zipped file ; tar -xvf 817.tar
    4) perl clone.pl ORACLE_HOME=”new home path" ORACLE_HOME_NAME=”new home name"----updates the oracle inventory
