Install Oracle on Solaris

I have Installed Oracle 8 on Solaris Intel with starter Database. Its fine and working, but when I create custome database It reports can not connect to Oracle. I am struck. Please help me out.
Regards,

you would need to startup your database in order to connect! Or if you are connecting using sqlplus "/ as sysdba". You would need to be in the unix dba group in order to connect.

  • Disk partitioning tool, to install oracle in solaris

I need to install oracle in solaris. Is there any version of solaris for intel processors.
Is there any free disk partioning tool availbale

The partitioning tool (fdisk) you need comes with OpenSolaris 10. First Download this free Operating System from sun.com. Then start the installation. You will be asked to partition your hard disk. The system automatically recognises Windows Installations and Linux Installations on the same disk. Windows Installations will be bootable after the Solaris Installation. Linux and Solaris is not able to use the same disk. Because they have the same boot loader/manager called GRUB and must make a different disk layout for this boot loader. But you can use Linux and Solaris on different disks.
Oracle 10.1 and 10.2 is available for Solaris x64. I strongly recommend to use the 64 Bit AMD64 version. Its a real fun and fast as hell. Supported Raid Controllers can be found at the Solaris driver discussion forum at www.opensolaris.org.

  • Install Oracle on Solaris 10

To install Oracle 10g in a Solaris 10, Do I need to launch a GUI or do I can install it in text mode?

An interactive installation needs the graphical installer. Alternatively you could perform a silent installation using a response file. You find all necessary steps in the installation guide.

  • Install Oracle on Solaris Intel

I have purchased Oracle8i Enterprise Edition, Release 2(8.1.6) for Intel Unix(Solaris Intel), and have installed successfully. However, as soon as I shut down and reboot the machine, I can connect to sqlplus
internal, but I cannot log into the database as "sys".
The procedure I did is as following:
Immediately after the installation (message says "installation successful"),
    1. Log in as user "oracle" in the Bourne shell.
    2. At the $ prompt, type "sqlplus internal"
    3. It come out with SQL prompt
    4. SQL> show user ( I typed show user under SQL prompt)
    5. Then it return "sys"
Things seemed to work fine at that point.
But, when I shut down and reboot the machine and logon again, and follow the same steps 1-5 as above, it did not work. When I did the "show user" command at SQL prompt, the user is not "sys", instead it returned
" ". I followed the installation guide and tried to reinstall 5 times.
Every time I had the same problem. I was wondering if this is a bug in
the CD. How can I solve it?
    Thanks,
    Lillian

    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=10
Space aint an issue and dont know how to over come this error!
Should ai just install the db using scripts and run the neccessary .sql scripts instead of going through dbca?
    junior DBA in distress.

This appears to be because of low semaphores setting. Did you reboot your server after making the /etc/system parameter changes ?

  • Error while installing Oracle 10g on Solaris 10.

    Hi all,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g on Solaris 10 (x86). I did every thing that is given in the Installation manual
created user, group and directories. set all the env variables.
executing the runinstaller it throws error

I am very new to Solaris and Oracle; Please help me with this.
    Thanks.
    Regards
    Akhilesh Bhale

Check also if the t-bit is set:
    [root@vtl1g121 ~]# ls -dl /tmp
    drwxrwxrwt 11 root root 4096 Apr 10 11:44 /tmp
This is needed to mark the filesystem/directory as temporary.
Sometimes this can cause such problems also
    Command: chmod +t   /tmp
