Install Oracle VM on WIndows 2003 Sevser/XP/Vista
Has any one successfully installed Oracle VM on WIndows 2003 Server or XP or Vista?
Is it possible to migrate an exisitng Oracle Express Edition database to Oracle VM? Or the Oracle Express Edition has to be installed on Oracle VM on one platform before it is portable to another machine/server.
Is there any viewlet on how to use Oracle VM?
To answer your first question: Oracle VM Server can NOT be installed on Windows.
From the OVM-FAQ:
Does Oracle VM require a host operating system?
No. Oracle VM installs directly on server hardware and does not require a host operating system.
This applies to the VM Server. For the VM Manager:
The Oracle VM Manager works on the operating system Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 Update 5 or later.
FYI - these servers are all Linux-based.
You might check the documentation in the "Virtualization Technology Center": http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/virtualization/index.html to find some more answers.

Cant install oracle 8i in windows 2003 server
hi,
I am a newbie in Oracle. While Im trying to install Oracle 8i in Windows 2003 server , setup is not running. It didn't show anything. When trying to run from auto run, after splash screen nothing came.I formatted hard disk, changed two more hard disks,.changed machine...but cant install it in no way... It is the same case in Windows XP home edition.
But it is running in one of my friend's machine(windows 2003 server)
Please help me with valuable solutions.
Thanks in advanceDid your friend install on W2003 or upgrade from an older version of the OS?
When trying to run programs on an OS that is not certified for the programs, it is hit-n-miss whether the OS actually has the support files needed for the programs.
Think about this: the Oracle environment needs OS support in the form of DLLs and other files. The contents of the DLLs are made visible as APIs. Each time Microsoft releases patches, it is possible that the APIs that Oracle used are changed. This is extremely true when a new version of the OS is released, and even more true with stripped versions such as XP Home.
If your friend installed and then applied patches, [s]he may have hit the proper API combination. If you appled patches first, you may have skootched your APIs to the point that Oracle can not longer install.
Even if you happen to get it installed, you run the risk of getting clobbered any time you install a new Microsoft patch. The risk is minimized when you use a certified combination of the OS and application. -
Install Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 Server cluster (MSCS)
Hi all
How do I install Oracle 10g on Windows 2000 cluster (MSCS installed)?
I have a 2-nodes Microsoft windows 2003 server cluster and I want to install Oracle 10g,
Do I folloow this order:
1. Install the software on both without the database
2. Create the database from the first node
in this case, The second node can see the database as it is available?,
and what about the IP adresses?
If you can point me to some documentation, or help in any way, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for any help.Read here...
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96685_01/intro.htm
>>
Oracle Fail Safe comprises multiple components: Oracle Fail Safe Manager, Oracle Services for MSCS, and server components specific to Oracle Fail Safe.
>>
So I don't know how you can achieve this without Fail Safe.
There might be other link which I cannot find right now. -
Install oracle 10g on windows 2003 server issues
I am very new to oracle
I installed oracle 10g release 2 Enterprise Edition on a Win 2003 Server.
I got all oracle services running after install
But I can not connect to the database from another machine which is on the same domain
I set USE_SHARED_SOCKET =TRUE under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Oracle/HOME
(as I learned from the forum)
I turned off windows firewall (or with the firewall turned on add port 1521 to Exceptions list) .
I restarted listener serivces and I even reboot the machine Still I can not connect to the database from another machine.
What am doing wrong here?
We are on a tight schedule now any help will be very appriciated.Firewall-related problems normally throw ORA-12535, not ORA-12170 (the message a timeout occurred is the same). Description for this error is:
Error: ORA-12170 (ORA-12170)
Text: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
Cause: The server shut down because connection establishment with a
client failed to complete within the allotted time interval. This
may be a result of network/system delays; or this may indicate
that a malicious client is trying to cause a Denial of Service
attack on the server.
Action: If the error occurred because of a slow network/system,
reconfigure the SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in
sqlnet.ora to a larger value. If a malicious client is suspected,
use the address in sqlnet.log to identify the source and restrict
access. Note that logged addresses may not be reliable as they can
be forged (e.g. in TCP/IP).
Hostname in listener.ora has a domain included, while in tnsnames.ora has not. Y Can you ping the host? Does tnsping work? To get more detailed informations you may turn on tracing on the client side (in sqlnet.ora) and the server sid (in listener.ora).

Installing Oracle 9i on Windows 2003 Server R2 Stansard x64 Edition
I'm trying to install Oracle 9i Release 2 (9.2.0.2.1) for 64-Bit Windows on a
Dell Server PE2950
equipped with intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU
E5405 @ 2.00GHz, 2.00GHz,
3.99 GB of RAM (It is planed to upgrade to 12 GB of RAM next week)
Running Windows 2003 Server R2 Standard x64 Edition
on install I receive message :
The image file D:\Disk1\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.
Can you help me?I'm not sure there is a supported version for your O/S but if there is you will find it by going to the downloads page at http://otn.oracle.com.
If there isn't I'd recommend going with a currently supported version of the product rather than one whose full support has ended. -
Error installing Oracle 92021 on Windows 2003 Std 64x
Bit of an Oracle newb here, so someone set me strait...
I need to install a test instance of Oracle 92x, and I want to install it on my Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 system (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 4GB RAM, if it matters).
I downloaded the Windows 2003 x64 release of Oracle 9 (92021), but I can't even run the setup executable. I get:
"The image file setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine."
.. as if the build was for a completely different processor architecture. I will be trying a x32 build next, but I understand x32 apps are very slow in WOW64.
What am I missing?Ok, checked out Certify... the only certified release for my processor / OS is 10gR2... so be it. Still scratching my head that 92021 says it is for 2003 x64... oh well.
My next question is, where do I find patches? I have looked all over downloads and no luck. Certify notes that I can get "patch sets" 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3.
Can someone direct me to those?
Certify output below, patch info on the very bottom

Installing oracle R12 on windows 2003
hi
i downloaded the suite for windows server 2003.
now i need the complete set of instructions for installing them.are there any documents that can guide me with the installation steps.
i have 160 gb harddrive and 2 gb ram in my system.will this configuration enough
to install this suite.it would be great if anyone can help me with this.
thanksDo not write them to any DVDs. Just download all to the same stage directory on your PC, like c:\stage12r.
Unzip all files from edelivery.oracle.com in that directory up to the documentation CD.
Follow the 11.5.10 on Windows XP thread:
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=447193&tstart=0
The patches listed are Oracle patches to be applied to the database and application server.
Follow Oracle Applications Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.0) for Microsoft Windows Note:402311.1.
You will need to use disk compression on your c:\ drive before starting the installation, or you will not have room for the installation of Vision R12, which takes 160GB itself, leaving no room for your OS, or staging area. -
Advantages/Disadvantages of installing Oracle RAC on Windows 2003 VS Linux
Hello Guys,
I am not very good with linux, have to create a Oracle RAC environment using dataabse 10g.
I just need to know the advantages/disadvantages of configuring RAC on windows and on linux operating system.
Please help me with this. Please also specify what is the best available windows and linux version to configure RAC.
Regards,
ImranGo with th eOS you have the skills in, if you have onsite expertise in windows then it makes no sense to use Linux because some guy on the internet says its better. Windows can be a highly available server OS when is managed by professional well quallified adminstrators.
Personally I would use linux because I am more familiar with the OS than windows. I also find oracle makes more sense on a *NIX type platform but there are shops that run oracle on windows with the required high availability. -
Needed steps for installing oracle 10R2 on windows server 2003
Hi to All,
Can anybody give me steps for how to install oracle 10R2 on windows 2003 server in production environment and what is the preinstallation task and postinstallation task.
Thanks and Regards
Mohd KhajaThere is one pre-requisite that is missing from the documentation - ensuring that the administration team is adequately trained.
Since you are asking this question, I wonder whether your team is properly prepared for, and aware of, the possible nuances or changes from default that might be relevant to your environment.
For example, is your team familiar with the concept of Flashback Recovery Area and how it may fit, or conflict with, your production needs? Use of RMAN? Location of Oracle software Inventory and implications in your OS-level backup? How to configure both the software and the database to meet your Service Level Agreement requirements.
The referenced document is an excellent first step, as it asks some of the questions. If you are serious about production stability, you want to go through that as well as get appropriate level of expertise in your shop. -
I am trying to install oracle 10g to windows 2003, but during the installation a message appears something like that "didn´t find the IP ...."
after that the intallation continue and some components don´t install
finally the installation is completed but i can start session in the data base scott
Please helpYou can use any of the samples in the official Oracle docs:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14229/pt_demos.htm#sthref1277
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14228/ptrep_demos.htm#BEIDDCBI
There is simply nothing special that has to be done for the different OS. -
Hello All,
I have limited knowledge/experience with ORACLE and like your comments/feedback on following:
We plan to install Oracle 10g on Windows 2003.
Question:
1) Oracle 10G Standard Edition limitation on Memory/CPU
2) To setup a Stand-by database server do we need Oracle Enterprise Edition?
3) We plan to have 8.0 GB memory on Windows 2003 server, is the Oracle SE capable of using up to 8.0 GB of memory
4) Last but not least any idea/suggestion on best practices for Oracle 10g on Windows 2003
I know some of the questions are not clear but hope to get some answers.
Much Appreciated!
Kamal Hassan3) We plan to have 8.0 GB memory on Windows 2003
server, is the Oracle SE capable of using up to 8.0 GB of memoryTo start with, does your combination of hardware and operating system provide the ability for Oracle to use the amount of memory? (you need to know what hardware architecture and edition of Windows)
About the Std Edition being capable or no, in matter of license terms... I believe there is no direct memory limitation. However the license constrains the server hardware maximum capacity (number of "processors"), which perhaps could limit the size of RAM indirectly.
I forgot to mention, that, depending on your choice of platform/os and of course your apps, you may need to consider whether to run 32 or 64-bit Oracle.
Is the plan to run one big or many small (memory-wise) Oracle instances?

About memory issue during installing Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003
Hi, all
When I installed Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003 which the server is a virtual server, Oracle only can detect 2G memory.
But there are 4G memory with my server.
I want to know if the Oracle 11g's new feature or the virtual server lead the issue.
Also , I want to get your help to resolve the issue, thanks a lot.Let me get this straight:
You have created some virtual machine using someone's unknown VM software.
You have installed Windows Server 2003 (perhaps, but not confirmed 32-bit) to that VM.
You have allocated 4GB of memory to the VM (we guess ... not sure I'm ready to take your word on this)
You are attempting to install Oracle 11g (presumably 11gR1 32 bit for Windows) in the VM
And the Oracle (installer?) seems to be reporting that you only have 2GB RAM.
Since I personally have installed Oracle 11g 32bit for Windows on Windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM and had no issues, I would be investigating the (unknown) VM environment.
