Install Personal Edition on Win 2K Prof

I am trying to install Oracle Personal Edition 8i on a system using Windows 2000 Professional. I have installed the Forms and Reports 6i already. When I insert the Personal Edition CD and click the Install/Deinstall button, nothing happens. I have tried to run it from a DOS prompt also (as suggested by Oracle) but that does not work either. If anyone could share any information on this, I would really appreciate it.

What version of Oracle are yoy trying to install , use 8i Ver 2 (8.1.6 ) or ver 3 (8.1.7 ) .
Preferable use Oracle 9i , it has got a personal edition embeded in the Enterprise edition CD set OR you can just download the Just released Personal edition 9i.
8i Ver. 1 (8.1.5) does not work on Windows 2000 , in cases the installer does not work at all or the installer runs but it sees no software source

  • Error installing Oracle 9i Database Enterprise/personal edition for win xp

    Hi,
    Not sure if anyone can help me, but I just finish downloading the
    Oracle Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP (32 bit)
    When I finished unzipping the 3 files into Disk1, Disk2, and Disk3 folders I tried running the setup.exe file but nothing happens.
    I am using windows XP as my operating system. Can anyone tell me why the setup is not working?
    Thank you.

    XP Professional, or XP Home?
    There are a lot of cases where people have tried and failed to install on XP Home. Also a few successes.
    Also, how is your firewall and anti-virus software configured. Those may be blocking your install process.

  • Install Personal Edition on ME

    How can I install Personal Oracle 8i on my Windows Millennium system

    To install Oracle 8i on Windows ME, before installing it, you have to modify the WIN.INI file, adding in the section [Compatibility95] the string: Jrew=0x0080000. After this, reboot the system and try to install it. It worked with me. Good luck.

  • Installation Oracle8 Personal Edition to Win NT

    Hi all,
    Had encountered the following error ORA-12203:TNS: unable to connect to destination during my installation to Win NT at the last part.
    Really had no idea on wat had gone wrong? Can someone enlighten me on it?
    null

    This error normally means that the Oracle listener (NT)service is not started.
    Go to the start menu/settings /control panel
    then choose services.
    In the window check the status of the Oracle TNS listener service.
    This should be 'started'.
    Also check if startupup mode for the service is set to 'automatic'.This means that the service will be automatically started when you start windows up.(then you won't have to worry about this any more).
    I hope that this is useful
    regards David

  • Installing Oracle9i  Developer in win 2000 profes..win system file  error

    Hello all,
    I am trying to install oracle9i developer. I am getting error "90201iDS_win32.exe is not a valid win32 application". Oracle installation guide mension to run wsf.exe file.. Could you please tell me the procedure. I could not find the wsf.exe file......Please help me..My hair is getting dry...
    Thanks

    Hi,
    the 90201iDS_win32.exe file is a self extractor file. It will unzip alone and create 2 folders disk1 and disk2 that are the installation disks.
    But, if this file make an error, maybe you have to delete it and start again the batch file (file10).
    The .brk files are not zipped. It's only file divion. The batch file concatenate the 9 .brk file to obtain the .exe file wchich is devided on 9 files.
    One question, do you have enough disk space? and which file system areyou using (NTFS ou FAT32)?
    I hope that can help you.
    Hedi.

  • Oracle Personal Edition Install

    I've been trying and trying to install personal edition on Win 98. However, the install process stalls right before it is about to initialize the starter db. It says it cannot copy the files from the source. Possibly because there isn't enough drive space. However, I know there is because I'm able to copy the files myself?? Any help would be greatly apppreciated.

    Try installing ORACLE without creating a starter database. Once the installation is complete, re-start your machine.
    Once the re-start is complete, use the Database assistant to create the database, it worked for me....

  • Cant Load personal edition 8.1.5 on Windows ME

    Is there a way out to install Oracle personal edition 8.1.5 on Windows ME. Is it true one can't install personal edition on Win ME. If any one had sucess, I would be glad to hear how. Thanks
    Adiseshu

    Oracle doesn't support Windows ME at the moment.
    If you visit some of the Oracle newsgroups, there are folks that have figured out how to install Oracle on a Windows ME box. This would be an unsupported configuration, however.

  • 8i PERSONAL EDITION WON'T INSTALL

    Auto run brings up menu, click on install/deinstall - bring up screen and click on next. Screen disapears and you are back at the original screen.

    Hello Robert,
    I'm also running the Oracle 8i Personal Edition on Windows 98. One of the passwords you can use is
    UserId: Scott
    Password: tiger
    Host: leave blank because you should be connecting to your local database.
    This may also help, it will allow you to create your own userid and password, go to "Oracle-OraHome81, Application Devlopment, Oracle 8i Navigator, 8i Personal Edition, Local Database, Right Click on the User folder and choose New and it'll bring you to a dialog box with the title "New User Properties" just type in whatever name strikes your fancy with a password and then go to the Role/Privilege tab and grant yourself whatever role and privileges you want. I learned this the hard way. Have Fun!

  • PL/SQL does not work in Oracle 8i Personal Edition

    I just installed Oracle 8i Personal Edition for Win 98. Everything works perfectly, except the PL/SQL.
    Then I tried to install Oracle 8i EM, but I always get the listener or adapter error. Even when I tried to start the listener from lsnrctl prompt, it gives me those errors. Anyone can help?

    You need use correct type when you create object.
    Don't forget object in reality is a memory pointer,
    so what if you don't allocate correct memory in creation,
    you can't treat object as subtype.
    And meanwhile, it doesn't depend on Oracle version -
    your example doesn't work in 9.2.0.1 for example.
    SQL> declare
      2  super one_t;
      3  sub two_t := two_t(1, sysdate);
      4  begin
      5  super := two_t(1, sysdate);
      6  sub := treat(super as two_t);
      7  dbms_output.put_line('sub ' || sub.x || ' ' || sub.y );
      8  select treat(super as two_t) into sub from dual;
      9  dbms_output.put_line('super ' || super.x || ' ' || super.y );
    10  if sub is null then
    11  dbms_output.put_line('stupid');
    12  end if;
    13  if sub is of (two_t) then
    14  dbms_output.put_line('stupid');
    15  end if;
    16  end;

  • Personal Edition 8i

    I have a question on proper installation of Perosnal Edition 8i, for Win 98. I was told that before I installed Personal Edition, I neededt to install Developer. When I went to the download page I saw that there was no Developer for Win 98, however there was one for NT. Is this what I need or am I way off. Or is Personal Edition 8i all I need for the proper setup.
    When I tried to install the Persoal Edition 8i without Developer, I was getting a TNS error. I thought I setup the TNS file properly, but I guess not. Is there anything you can do to help me, like directions for proper setup. Any kind of help would be awesome. Peter

    I went to the TNS files and made some changes
    po8.world =
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TPC)
    (Host = localhost)
    (Port = 1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = ORCL)
    This is the only file I changed, then I started the lintener with
    c:\ora95po\bin\tnslsnr.exe port=1521
    and then started the database, when I went to connect to SQL Plus, it said It didn't connect and gave me a TNS error.
    So I unistalled it and went to the registry and deleted it from there. I tried to re-installed it but it got stuck at 85% during the re-istallation.
    Any helpful hints

  • 8i Personal Edition on W2k?

    Does Personal Oracle 8i run on W2k professional or server?

    Gino,
    First of all, you should not create tables uder the user, SYS. Instead create a new user for yourself, and if you are the DBA grant yourself the DBA role. When you create the user you will give yourself a quota on your users tablespace. For example, type:
    SQL> conn system/manager
    Connected.
    SQL> CREATE USER gino IDENTIFIED BY <yourpassword>
    2> DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
    3> TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp
    4> QUOTA UNLIMITED ON users;
    User created.
    SQL> GRANT DBA TO gino;
    SQL> conn gino/<yourpassword>
    Now try creating your table. If you'll notice in the create user statement, the default tablespace and temporary tablespace are specified. The default tablespace is where objects you create will be stored, unless you specify a different tablespace. You also have to tell Oracle how much space the user can have in the tablespace. In the above statement, you have unlimited space. Really, you are limited by the physical disk space or by storage parameters specified when the tablespace was created. Instead of saying 'QUOTA UNLIMITED ON users' in clause 4, you could also limit the space by saying something like 'QUOTA 2M ON users'
    I hope that helps!
    Rob Kaegy
    I am not an oracle DBA, sorry. After installing personal edition I try to create a table and get a message no privaleges on tablespace users.
    I am logged in with the sys account. Anyone any idea.
