Install problems - Red Hat 5.2 and Oracle 8.0.5.1

I am trying to install Oracle 8.0.5.1 on 200Mhz/48Meg Intel Pentium system with RedHat 5.2
As I'm rather new to Linux, I decided to find a thorough description of the installation procedure and have used the one on:
http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/rh5x.html
However, when I get to the point where I should start ORAINST, the system tells me it cannot find the file.
What can I do?
null

Hi there,
teh file orainst is very much in the directory. All you have to do is.
1. set the PATH=$PATH:. in your .profile. This will ensure that can execute the files from the current directory.
2. cd to /mnt/cdrom/orainst
3. execute teh command orainst.
If you have still problem I am glad to assist you.
I have done my installation in RH5.2 , its fine, but RH6.1, I have problem
thanks

  • Red Hat Cluster Suite and Oracle RAC

    HI Guys,
    Our boss will plan to configure Red Hat Cluster Suite to replace to update oracle RAC.
    Are there some experienced expert to explain advantage and risk of Red Hat Cluster Suite v Oracle RAC 11.2
    Thanks
    Jin

    Hi,
    first of all Red Hat Cluster Suite cannot replace the RAC functionality. RAC is database Red Hat Cluster Suite, just provides clusterware. So all with what you will end up is a plain old failover cluster solution.
    So in maximum Red Hat Cluster Suite can replace the Oracle Clusterware. (But not below a RAC, since this is not supported and even with integration with other clusterware Oracle Clusterware will still be there).
    So what he will end up is also replacing RAC with single instance databases in a failover cluster solution, and with this will decrease a lot of RAC capabilities:
    => Rolling Upgrade (OS / Clusterware and some database patches)
    => Storage migration/consolidation
    => Fast failover (30 seconds vs. minutes).
    See www.oracle.com and you will find whitepapers with differences between failover clusters and RAC.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/failover-cluster-134770.pdf
    But even if there are other justifications to reduce availablity (which actually can only be costs), I still wonder, why he wants to replace Oracle Clusterware - the clusterware shipped with Oracle is far more mature than the one from the Red Hat cluster Suite.
    And there is no better integration for Oracle databases in clusterware than what Oracle clusterware can provide.
    Even more so, OCW is a full capable clusterware and you can build your own failover cluster solution for free.
    The same would have to be done if he replaces it with redhat cluster.
    PS: If someone is providing failover scripts for Oracle in Redhat clusters, it will be Redhat (but I think you have to write them yourself).
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • Oracle 8.1.7 install on Red Hat 8.0 or 7.2

    I have been trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on both Red Hat 8.0 and 7.2 and have followed all the instructions as per the install documents as well as the
    tips/tricks posted at various tech websites such as http://www.puschitz.com/ and so on. I am not able to get the installer to work because of the JRE.
    I am getting an error which says - Java Runtime Environment not found at /bin/jre, though I have installed JDK 1.1.8 downloaded from www.blackdown.org
    and followed all the required instructions.
    Can someboby, please help me to get this to work.
    Thanks

  • Red hat Linux support for Oracle

    Hi! Can some body tell me which version of Red Hat Linux is supported. I was told that Oracle supports only upto Red hat 7.1 for Oracle 8.1.7.3.
    thanks

    I installed 9iAS on RedHat 7.3, see my post at:

  • Error Installing ERP2005 on Red Hat 4es Linux with Oracle

    Normally I only install SAP for customers on Unix boxes or WIndows, but I was asked for a customer to do an installation on Red Hat 4es 64bit. It will be a Sandbox system for the customer. ERP2005 with Oracle.
    But after some issues on shared objects when I wasn't able to start the sapinst, cause there was no JRE installed, but has been installed after this (version 1.4.2.13 for linux). I now run into the following issue when ./sapinst is running and me trying to start the ./startInstGui.sh I get the following :
    java.lang.RuntimeException: invocation target exception: /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_13/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    both files are there, JAVA_HOME had been set, java had also been set as path, but when I do a file on the files it gives me:
    [root@su49tas1 lib64]# file libXp.so.6.2
    libXp.so.6.2: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), stripped
    [root@su49tas1 i386]# file libawt.so
    libawt.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), stripped
    looking at this there might be a conflict on version, but the libXp.so comes from the RH install cd and the libawt.so comes from the jre1.4.2.13-rpm.bin file downloaded from the java sun website.
    strange thing is that I cannot find a 64bit version so that might bring down my thoughts on version conflict.
    Hopefully someone had had this same issue also and had solved it, but also other input which might help me solve this is appreciated.
    cause this is turning my head for a day and night
    cheers

  • SE1 install on Red Hat 4

    I am very new to both Linux and Oracle. I have a Windows background. I need to install Oracle on Red Hat. I followed the quick install direction word for word. During installation I received Oracle net configuration assistant (Recommended), Oracle Database Configuration Assistant (Recommended) and iSQL* Plus Configuration Assistant (Optional) errors. When I retry a screen pops up with OUI-25031: Some of the configuration assistants failed.....
    How do I begin troubleshooting this.

    To check (logon as user that executing dbca) LD_LIBRARY_PATH in enviroment.
    echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATHTo set LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATHNote if you type this command to shell, this settings will be valid for that shell session only.
    For permanent settings add that command to /home/<username>/.bash_profile and reload profile using . .bash_profileIf you want set that to OS global enviroment add that command (export) to /etc/profile .

  • Install on Red Hat Linux

    I've tried for some while now, to install Sun One Studio 4 on my Red Hat Linux, but it always hangs when it comes to the screen saying "Installing....This might take a few minutes". And it hangs for hours, so it's not that I don't wait long enough.
    I have tried loging in as a normal user and as super user, but never get it right. I've checked that the DISPLAY setting is set to DISPLAY=:0.
    Can anyone help me?
    -Trond

    Hello Trond!
    I had the same problem a few months ago.
    I solved it by running the install program
    with a previous JDK (I think it was 1.3),
    then when install finished I ran it with JDK1.4.2.
    You can use symlinks to achieve this.
    If it not works, look at your /tmp directory,
    it will contain the install jar file,
    run it: java -jar /tmp/... .jar
    Hope it helps you.

    Mitch,
    How have things gone since your install? Also I'm puzzled as Fedora IS Red Hat, just a variant "flavor". It shouldn't cause the kind of problem that you related. Any news or dicoveries since then? I'm getting ready to install on my goDaddy server and it IS Fedora Core 10.

  • ConnectionPool problems with WLS 7.0 and Oracle 9.2

    Hi,
    We are using WLS 7.0 SP4, and Oracle 9 and the Oracle thin driver type 4. In our
    application on the productive system (and only there) we constantly encounter
    a whole set of SQLExceptions which have all in common that the Connection from
    the pool is not valid any more when the application tries to use it.
    Typical, recurring error messages are:
    - Exhausted ResultSet
    - Connection has already been closed
    - Closed Statement
    - Transaction is no longer active - status committing
    - NullPointerException at
    weblogic.jdbc.pool.Connection.prepareStatement()
    There are no special Statements which create these errors. They are spread at
    random across practically every query the application creates, and the same queries
    sometimes succeed and sometimes fail.
    I double and triple checked that all Connections, Statements and ResultSets are
    closed immediately after use. As an example, I attached a code snippet and a resulting
    StackTrace which.
    The problem also seems to occur only with an (unknown) minimum of concurrent usern,
    since in the approval tests on an almost identical test system these errors never
    occurred.
    I also followed the advice from Oracle and installed the latest Oracle JDBC driver
    (Oracle 10g) - to no avail.
    What else can I do?
    Another question: Is it correct that my Oracle JDBC driver is in the application
    classpath (via a reference in the Manifest file of the application jar), not in
    the system classpath? There has never been a problem with that, but in a Newsgroup
    answer from Nov 10, 2003 (subject: "ResultSet closes prematurely"), Joe Weinstein
    suggested to "get it listed at the
    front of the -classpath argument that the startWebLogic script creates for the
    java line that starts the server".
    I hesitate to do so, since the driver is in a standard WebApp- directory, WEB-INF/lib.
    Is it possible and safe to add a jar located there to the system classpath? If
    it is possible, why is it necessary?
    Best regards,

    On further investigation of the code I found out that the class that passes the
    Connection to the DAO not only stores it as a member at some point (which is not
    a good idea anyway) but is also a singleton - then, of course, it's no surprise
    that the Connection gets invalid in a incalculable way when concurrent threads
    share it.
    The singleton instantiation was not so obvious because the way of instantiation
    is controlled by a configuration parameter that can be overridden at different
    levels.
    I changed it and the productive logfiles indicate that the SQLExceptions related
    to that class have disappeared.I am happy to have helped.
    So, thanks a lot for the advice.
    But I am still wondering why this code has worked for so long a time with WLS
    5.1 and Oracle 8 (the system has been productive for over 2 years). Even in the
    approval tests with WLS 7.0 and Oracle 9, we did not run into problems, although
    it was multi-user environment.Mo idea.
    I still believe that there is a difference between WLS 5.1 and 7.0 in the way
    it treats pooled Oracle JDBC Connections. I wished both Oracle and Bea could be
    a little more explicit about those changes and possible version incompatabilities
    beyond the general advice "use the latest thin driver".Though I can think of no change to our pooling which would have had any material
    effect in this case, I will certainly do what I can to see that our documentation
    is explicit about changes.

    Best regards, Andreas

    Hi,
    We are using WLS 7.0 SP4, and Oracle 9 and the Oracle thin driver type4. In our
    application on the productive system (and only there) we constantlyencounter
    a whole set of SQLExceptions which have all in common that the Connectionfrom
    the pool is not valid any more when the application tries to use it.
    Typical, recurring error messages are:
    - Exhausted ResultSetThat is typically if the statement that created it is either re-executed
    or closed.
    - Connection has already been closedAs described. If you give a stacktrace, we could make a debug patch which
    would show
    where it was originally closed.
    - Closed Statementsame as above.
    - Transaction is no longer active - status committingThat implies your code is obtaining a connection from a transactional
    datasource,
    and then later trying to use it after the transaction which it was associated
    with,
    is finished.
    - NullPointerException at
    weblogic.jdbc.pool.Connection.prepareStatement()Maybe any of the above.
    There are no special Statements which create these errors. They arespread at
    random across practically every query the application creates, andthe same queries
    sometimes succeed and sometimes fail.
    I double and triple checked that all Connections, Statements and ResultSetsare
    closed immediately after use. As an example, I attached a code snippetand a resulting
    StackTrace which.
    The problem also seems to occur only with an (unknown) minimum of concurrentusern,
    since in the approval tests on an almost identical test system theseerrors never
    occurred.
    I also followed the advice from Oracle and installed the latest OracleJDBC driver
    (Oracle 10g) - to no avail.
    What else can I do?
    Another question: Is it correct that my Oracle JDBC driver is in theapplication
    classpath (via a reference in the Manifest file of the applicationjar), not in
    the system classpath? There has never been a problem with that, butin a Newsgroup
    answer from Nov 10, 2003 (subject: "ResultSet closes prematurely"),Joe Weinstein
    suggested to "get it listed at the
    front of the -classpath argument that the startWebLogic script createsfor the
    java line that starts the server".
    I hesitate to do so, since the driver is in a standard WebApp- directory,WEB-INF/lib.
    Is it possible and safe to add a jar located there to the system classpath?If
    it is possible, why is it necessary?I was only concerned to ensure we know which driver we are working with.
    We also ship
    an oracle thin driver, which becomes obsolete soon...
    I am concerned that your code creates pool connections to be used later.
    The problems
    can arise if more than one thread ever gets the same connection, or if
    the connection
    is used in the same thread, spanning transactions. It does also seem
    that there may
    be a threading issue, because if two threads each call the code to create
    a connection,
    and two connections are made, but one over-writes the other, the two
    threads can
    end up using the same connection, and closing it. The over-written one
    never gets closed,
    resulting in that leak message you got...
    Joe
    The Connection parameter is opened by a business component class, ComaServiceProviderClassicImpl.It is propagated through
    several classes in the business layer, but not used, until the DAOtakes it to make the query.
    So, the Connection is closed where it was opened, not in the DAO class.
    public class ConcernDAOImpl extends BaseDAO {
         public Collection getConcernsForIncidents(Connection conn, Collectionincidents)
    throws DataAccessException, ConstraintException, ComaParseException{>
    sqlMessage.append(")");
    String sqlStmt = sqlMessage.toString();
    PreparedStatement pstmt = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    try {
    pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(sqlStmt);
    rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
    while (rs != null && rs.next()) {
    final Concern concern =
    new Concern(DAOUtil.getComaOID(rs, ComaDBNames.KDANR));
    concern.setIncidentOID(DAOUtil.getComaOID(rs, ComaDBNames.KDAVGENR));
    return concerns;
    } catch (SQLException sqle) {
    // Wrapps real SQL exception
    String[] message = new String[]{sqle.getMessage(), sqlStmt};
    throw new DataAccessException(ExpCode.S_ORACLE_SQL, message,
    sqle);
    } finally {
    closeAll(rs, pstmt);
    _logger.exitDebug(method);
    Here, the Connection is acquired and finally closed
    public class ComaServiceProviderClassicImpl {
         public void updateComplaint(
    final Request updateRequest,
    final ResponseSingleElement response,
    final Principal principal)
    throws SystemException {
    try {
    logger.info("updateComplaint", "store incident");
    // store the incident in the database
    incidentManager.storeIncident(getConnection(), updateIncident);
    // reload the incident from Cache and / or the databaseto get the ContactReferences.
    Incident returnIncident = incidentManager.loadIncident(//IncidentManager passes the Connection to the DAO
    getConnection(), updateIncident.getOID());
    } catch (RemoteException rex) {
    // remote exceptions
    rollbackIfNecessary();
    CoreUtils.unwrapRemoteException(rex, logger);
    } catch (SystemException e) {
    // all other exceptions --> rollback if necessary and rethrow
    rollbackIfNecessary();
    throw e;
    } finally {
    removeConnection();
    logger.exitDebug("updateComplaint");
    This is the resulting StackTrace:

  • Install Problems with 8.1.7 and 9.2.01

    I tried to install 8.1.7 and 9.2.0.1 on a notebook with Win2000 Pro SP4 German (512 MB RAM, 1500 MB swap-file) and I failed in both cases.
    I downloaded both install kits from OTN, unpacked to disk etc. (9.2.0.1 consists of 3 Zips, I unpacked to 3 folders called Disk1, Disk2, Disk3).
    I have J2RE 1.4.2-06 (the latest available from Sun) installed on this notebook.
    - 8.1.7:
    Installer starts but crashes when I clicked on "Install" !!!
    Very disappointing ...
    What to do now ???
    - 9.2.0.1:
    Clicking on setup.exe in Disk1 folder: nothing happens !!!
    Very disappointing ...
    Ok, opening folder autorun and clicking an autorun.exe: whow, oracle installer is starting!
    I did a standard installation with "Personal Edition" and "Universal Database".
    Everything seems to work well...
    After about 1h and heavy disk access it looks like the installation process is hanging! Nothing happens anymore!
    Last message is "Erstellen von Clone-DB (Creating Clone-DB)" with progress bar hanging at 93%.
    I did this 3 times in the meantime, deinstalling evrything, cleaning the registry (because Oracle Installer seems not to be able to realy clean the registry! Very disappointing ...), but the problem is still remaining: every time installation is hanging at exactly this point (93%).
    Overall very disappointing compared to a MS SQL-Server installation on the same notebook, which needs no more than 15 minutes and works on the first run!!!
    What the hell is going on with that stupid oracle installer on windows ??? Is oracle not able to produce a working install kit for windows ???
    Any help would be highly appriciated !!!
    Hans

    Hans,
    It is a known problem on Windows 98, Windows and Windows 2000 if you are using Intel Pentium 4 processor with Sun JRE and Symantec JIT. I had the same problem with Windows 98. Oracle has a patch. Please see Note:131299.1 on metalink for details.
