Install protection agent failed. Error 324

Hi
So this is my problem.
I have 2 Windows 2012R2 servers, where DPM2012R2 are installed on server2.
They are both on the same domain and network. I have talked to the network team and there should not be anything that stops the DPMserver from talking to the agent on server 1.
The errors i get are:
Install protection agent on BRG-WI-HV01C01.felles.firma.no failed:
Error 324: The agent operation failed because the DPM Agent Coordinator service on BRG-WI-HV01C01.felles.firma.no did not respond.
Error details: Internal error code: 0x8099090E
Recommended action: Do the following to troubleshoot this issue:
1) Verify that BRG-WI-HV01C01.felles.firma.no is remotely accessible from the DPM server.
2) If a firewall is enabled on BRG-WI-HV01C01.felles.firma.no, make sure that it is not blocking requests from the DPM server and has an exception for Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI).
3) Try installing the agent manually by selecting "Attach Agents" in the agent installation wizard
AND
Agent operation failed. (ID: 370)
The agent operation failed because the DPM Agent Coordinator service on BRG-WI-HV01C01.felles.firma.no did not respond. (ID: 324)
I have done every test, firewall is of, the server is accessible, i have tried installing the agent manually and attaching it. Same errors.
I have even tried removeing SCDPM and installing it again.
Anyone have any idea what this could be?
I tried installing the dpm agent from another server I have, and that worked fine. This DPM server is not on the same location or network, but they are in the same domain.

Hi,
<snip>
I also tried to start the DPMRA service on the protected server and I get this error:
Windows could not start the DPMRA on local computer.
>snip<
This problem needs to be fixed - the dpmra needs to be able to run either by manually starting it or by normal "on demand" request when a DPM job is initiated.
If you look in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Temp\dpmracurr.errlog and see if there are any clues why it cannot start.
Manually delete any files or folders under the MTATempStore$ share on the DPM server. This is typically the c:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\temp\MTA folder.
DO NOTE DELETE the MTA folder itself.

  • Protection Agent failure error during backup to tape with DPM 2010.

    DPM TechNet Forum,
We are experiencing an intermittent error when backing up to tape using DPM 2010 (with latest QFE roll-up applied).
"The operation failed because of a protection agent failure. (ID 998 Details: The device is not connected (0x8007048F))"
Any idea what could be causing this error?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
You can try to reproduce the problem outside of DPM using some external utilities.  If you have more than one drive in the library, run the test against both drives simultaneously to simulate multiple backup jobs running.  If you get an error
before the tape fills you can use net helpmsg errorcode to see what the error was.
Download the DPMerasetape.zip file from the following link and extract to c:\temp folder.

  • DPM Protection Agent Communication Error

We get the following error sporadically, and it seems to always deal with an Exchange Server service stealing the DPMRA port. Is there any way to get this to stop. We have to put the mailbox server in 2010 into DAG maintenance and restart services. This
is not optimal. The below error is what we receive. Seems to be the Microsoft Exchange Replication Service:
DPM failed to communicate with servername because of a communication error with the protection agent. (ID 53 Details: Server execution failed (0x80080005))
    We run DPM 2012
    Thanks

    Hi,
you can tell DPM to use a different port on that exchange server:

  • Repeated prompts to install with "Installation Failed" error - ANNOYING

I've been experiencing the same issue for the better part of July and August.  I have tried several recommended strategies in the hopes of getting Adobe Flash Player (AFP) to install and perform correctly; however, none of my attempts have led to AFP indeed BEING installed.  Every single occasion I install, I receive the error "installation failed."  Needless to say, this is time-consuming and annoying.  And more annoying is the fact that I have no idea whatsoever as to what caused this event.
I am running Windows Vista with a 32-bit encryption on Internet Explorer Version 8.  I've searched through the FAQ section as well as through several Forum threads without luck.  I am, however, curiously able to utilize AFP through Mozilla Firefox, but as this is not my preferred mode of Internet surfing, this becomes cumbersome.
This issue is slowly driving me insane.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!
    Thank you!

Hi, We did some investigation into this and have determined that this occurs when “RAND_status” (an OpenSSL routine) returns 0, which means that the PRNG on this system does not have enough entropy to perform properly. When this happens, Pegasus will look
for a file in the location specified by the error as a source of entropy to seed the PRNG with. We actually didn't catch that this was the case, sorry about that!
Note that, in OM 2012R2, this was already fixed (since Pegasus is no longer used in that version).
A solution is for you to generate a series of files that contain random bits (on a fast and highly used system, one with high entropy). There should be one file generated per system that is experiencing this problem, for security reasons (i.e. each generated
file should be placed on only one system). Once these files are generated, they should be placed in the location specified in the error: '/var/opt/microsoft/scx/cimserver.rnd'.
Permissions should also be set such that only root can read from this file.
This should allow the agent to start. Note that we're unable to test this because we do not have a system that fails RAND_status, unfortunately. However, if you continue to have problems, please let us know, and we'll look into this further.
In any case, a command that can be used to generate random bits is:
    openssl rand 2048 > cimserver.rnd
Where 2048 is the number of bits generated. Let me know how this works out for you, thanks so much, and thanks for your patience.
    /Jeff

  • Cant install DPM agent after DC demotion

I was backing up a DC thru DPM, it was demoted without my knowledge, then DPM lost connection with the server. I tried stopping the protection and uninstalling the agent on the DPM server, also unistalled agent on the server itself. Then tried reinstalling
the agent to the server and got this error message:
    Any suggestions???? Thanks

    Hi fusdjimreis,
I can't help you with your issue, other than to say I've just come across the exact same thing myself today.
We had a domain controller being protected by DPM 2010. This DC was running Windows Server 2003 R2. We've recently introduced two new 2008R2 DCs, and have successfully transferred the FSMO roles to them. Earlier today this older DC was demoted (but otherwise
left online - just as a member server). Since then, DPM has been showing an error for this server - Cannot Connect To Remote Agent.
I've tried using the SetDPMServer command on the ex-DC to point the DPM server, but it returns an error code of 80070534, which I believe means the client cannot map names to a SID. I've tried this command with the servername, servername.localdomain and
DOMAIN\servername formats for the -setdpmservername parameter - all produce the same error.
I can't uninstall the agent from the ex-DC via the DPM server console, it just times out and fails with a "DPM could not communicate with the Protection Agent service" error.
My first thought was that the dpm service account needed to be added to the local groups on the ex-DC, but I've added that account into the Administrators, Users, Backup Operators and Distributed COM Users groups with no luck. Worth noting that the ex-DC
can resolve these names/SIDs from the AD perfectly, when adding the service account into the local groups.
Both servers have full connectivity between each other (no firewalls, same LAN) and both can happily ping each other and resolve names. Both servers have been rebooted.
I hope someone can shed some light on this perplexing issue!
    Thanks!

I ran across this error starting on 6/4/2011 and have been unable to find the root of the problem.  In our environment, we have a DPM 2010 server dedicated to backing up all our SQL envrionment (about 45 SQL Servers total).  All of the SQL

I have checked the cluster node this particular SQL instance is running on using Perfmon and the machine is nowhere near capacity on CPU, memory, network, or Disk I/O.  I have failed this SQL Application to another node in the cluster and
receive the same error (this other node has another clustered SQL application on it that is actively running as well as backing up fine).  The only thing that I am aware of that has changed is that we installed SP2 for SQL 2008 about 2 weeks prior
to when the failures started to occur.  However, we updated all six clustered SQL Instances at the same time and only this one is having this issue so I don't believe that caused the problem.  We are running SQL 2008 SP2 (version 10.0.4000.0)
on all clustered instances along with DPM 2010 (version 3.0.7696.0) on this particular DPM server that has the issue.
One last thing, I have also noticed errors in the event log pertaining to the same SQL backups that are failing (but the time stamps are not concurrent with each backup attempt):

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't know if this helps or not, but I also noticed another peculiar issue that is derived from this problem.  If I go to "Modify protection group", then expand the cluster, then expand all six nodes in the cluster, five of them show "All SQL Servers"
and allow me to expand the SQL Instance and show all databases; the one that is having a problem backing up, when I expand the node, doesn't even show that SQL exists on the node, when in fact, it does.
I would also like to add that the databases on this node that will not backup are running fine.  They run hundreds of transactions daily so we know SQL itself is OK.  Even though it is a busy SQL Server, there is plenty of available resources as
the SQL buffer and memory counters show the node is not under durress.

DPM 2012 R2: Remove Recovery Points

  • DPM failed to communicate with the protection agent on DPM 2010 SERVER because the agent is not responding. (ID 43 Details: Internal error code: 0x8099090E)

    Hi everyone,
Backup jobs for protected members are intermittently failing with the following error on the DPM server:
DPM failed to communicate with the protection agent on <DPM 2010 SERVER> because the agent is not responding. (ID 43 Details: Internal error code: 0x8099090E)
Why does the DPM server failing to see it's own DPM agent cause the backup job for another server to fail? One day a backup will work fine, the next it may fail; and the next back to normal again...
The following error is recorded in the Service Control Manager event log on the DPM server just prior to the above error:
A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the DPMRA service to connect.
    Thank you.
    With regards,
    Rob

    Hello,
I have read these entire postings and see that my problems match most of the above problems.
I believe we have tried all of the ideas in this blog and lots of other ideas from other forums and internet searches.
We have about 80 small databases protected and set at 15 minute incremental and most will work but some fail.  When they fail the most common, but not only error, is something like "DPM
failed to communicate with the protection agent on <DPM 2010 SERVER> because the agent is not responding. (ID 43 Details: Internal error code: 0x8099090E)". The alert is inactivated in the DPM Console, and the backups resume as normal."
Since later jobs are successful I thought all was well.  All was well until I went to restore from incremental backups.  We worked for two days (day and night work) to restore
from a corrupted virtual disk on our SQL Server 2008 R2.  I suspect DPM had something to do with the corrupted virtual disk.  All I know is that we never had this problem until installing DPM.  Here is what we encountered when we went to restore
    from the protection points:
    *  Restore jobs take a minimum of 15 minutes for jobs that are 45 MB or 2 GB.
    *  If you pick a backup from the list of recovery points that is not valid the job runs for 15 minutes and then "Failed".
    *  You cannot rerun the job because SQL Server 2008 has the table being recovered as <tablename> (recovering) and a retry will not work.  Of course time is wasted while waiting
    to see if it worked.
    * Eventually you realize that even after dropping the table in the (recovering) mode in SQL that the restore point must be bad or possibly one of this failed recovery points.
    * So begins the quest to start restoring recovery points one by one and 15 minutes by 15 minutes until you find one that actually restores to a SQL Instance.
    *  If you have 80 of these to do and you average trying three recovery points and each takes 15 minutes, not to mention the time to drop the table in SQL, well that time adds up to 3,600
minutes of trial and error.  60 hours of trial and error, wow not much of a savings using DPM over a SQL backup plan.
    * And then you have to explain to your customers that their databases were restored but you do not know at what point the DB was restored.
All in all it seems like DPM concept is great but like many backups the backup plan looks good on paper but actually restoring a backup is quite a different matter.
I don't know if anyone has ever solved the problems presented in this forum but if they have then I wish they would post and if no one has solved the problem then shame on DPM.
Good luck everyone, but I for one have spent about two months on trying to protect and restore consistently.  I have never had one day of consistent and reliable restore points.  I
am going back to sql management plans for my backups.  I have never, in 10 years had a sql generated backup fail me.  Never.

  • SCOM agent install fails Error 80070035 - the network path was not found

I have deployed SCOM 2012 agents to most servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012R2) in our estate but some either fail to install or are not monitored. I assume the two problems are related, but for now I am concentrating on the servers that fail completely.
Installation is from the Discovery Wizard and I have about 20 servers that fail of various server versions.
So looking at one specific server that is failing to install the agent - a 2008 standard service pack 2
The firewall in on and file and printer sharing is enabled for domain, remote administration is enabled for domain
I added a specific rule to allow TCP 5723 and 5724
    DCOM is enabled
I can Ping the target server from the SCOM server by both name and FQDN - both return the same IP and our DNS server has only one entry for this server
I can browse to the admin share \\server\C$ from the SCOM Server, using the same account that I specify for the agent install that is a domain admin with rights on this server (and on the other servers the agent
did install to) and the server has plenty of disk space available
I am not sure what else to look at so would welcome any ideas
    Thanks

    Hi Petro,
I have a Agent installation failure cheat sheet, For your error 80070035 it is said to perform a manual installation.
So i would like to understand which version of SCOM is this ? 2007 R2 or 2012 or 2012 r2 ?
Also check if your agents have the WMI service started and enabled ?
Also if yours is a SCOM 2007 R2 do you have a RMS & MS in your management group ? If yes then Pushing the agent installation from MS may cause such issue. So would suggest you push the installation from RMS.
Also check if your Network connectivity meets the minimum requirement as recommended by SCOM. Below is applicable for Both SCOM 2007 R2 & SCOM 2012 & 2012 R2.
    Component A
    Component B
    Minimum Requirement
Root management server or management server
    Agent
    64 Kbps
Root management server or management server
    Agentless
    1024 Kbps
Root management server or management server
    Database
    256 Kbps
Also check if you have any Anti virus / Firewall which is blocking the install / communication. If yes disabe or add the "Monitoringhost.exe to the safe list or what your feature is.
Check if you have another IP assigned to the NIC card and remove it tempraurly andchecl.
Also post the event logs of the Agents which are in not monitored state for analysis.

When you install or remove a management agent, the Operations Manager 2007 management server copies temporary files to the remote computer. One
of these files is named LockFileTime.txt. This lock file is intended to prevent another management server from performing a management agent installation at the same time as the current installation. If the management agent installation is unsuccessful and
if the management server loses connectivity with the remote computer, the temporary files may not be removed. Therefore, the LockFileTime.txt may remain in the folder on the remote computer. When the management server next tries to perform an agent installation,
the management server detects the lock file. Therefore, the management agent installation is unsuccessful.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Agent Issue: Error 25211.Failed to install performance counters.. Error Code: -2147024809

    Hi All,
I'm trying to deploy SCOM 2012 R2 agent onto a domain controller and I get the following error "Product: Microsoft Monitoring Agent -- Error 25211.Failed to install performance counters.. Error Code: -2147024809 (The parameter is incorrect.)."
I've installed the agent successfully onto 4 other domain controllers with out any issues.</p><p>The domain controllers are all VM's running on VMWare and are Windows Server 2012 R2.
I've rebuilt the Perfmon Counters based on this article:&nbsp;https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2554336?a=wsignin1.0
I've also enabled verbose logging on the msi installation:
InstallHSPerfCounters: Custom Action Data. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\
    InstallHSPerfCounters: Installing agent perf counters.
    InstallCounters: LoadPerfCounterTextStrings() failed . Error Code: 0x80070057. momv3 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\HealthServiceCounters.ini"
InstallPerfCountersHelper: pcCounterInstaller->InstallCounters() for the default counters failed. Error Code: 0x80070057. HealthService
InstallPerfCountersLib: InstallHealthServicePerfCounters() failed . Error Code: 0x80070057.

InstallPerfCountersLib: InstallHealthServicePerfCounters() failed . Error Code: 0x80070057.
Any help on this would be great.

    Hi Stefan,
I've successfully installed the agent. The server needed a reboot after fixing the corrupt perfmon counters.
I know have a issue with the agent on the domain controller. It kkeeps on greying out and have used hslockdown to allow the local system access by using the following command.
    HSLockdown.exe "ManagementGroupName" /A "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users"
Further digging into the issue I see in the SCOM Management Server the following error "The entity servername is not heartbeating"
Written a SQL query to gather more information. SQL query I used is:
    SELECT
    ME.FullName,
    HSO.StartDateTime AS OutageStartDateTime,
DATEDIFF (DD, hso.StartDateTime, GETDATE()) AS OutageDays,
    HSO.ReasonCode,
    DS.Name AS ReasonString
    FROM  vManagedEntity AS ME
INNER JOIN     vHealthServiceOutage AS HSO ON HSO.ManagedEntityRowId = ME.ManagedEntityRowId
INNER JOIN     vStringResource AS SR ON HSO.ReasonCode =
    REPLACE(LEFT(SR.StringResourceSystemName, LEN(SR.StringResourceSystemName)
    – CHARINDEX(‘.’, REVERSE(SR.StringResourceSystemName))), ‘System.Availability.StateData.Reasons.’, ”)
INNER JOIN     vDisplayString AS DS ON DS.ElementGuid = SR.StringResourceGuid
    WHERE (SR.StringResourceSystemName LIKE ‘System.Availability.StateData.Reasons.[0-9]%’)
    AND DS.LanguageCode = ‘ENU’
AND ME.FullName like ‘%SERVER NAME%’   –Change name here or leave %% for ALL SERVERS
    ORDER BY OutageStartDateTime
This gives me the following reason behind the failure : "The heartbeat from System Center Management Service is missing."
Have I missed anything? The agent is running fine, however SCOM is reporting that the heartbeat is missing.
Any help on this would be great.
