Install question - 11g on 2008 server

Hello All,
I am knowledgeable in installing Oracle on Linux. Now I am tasked to install 11g (11.1.0.7, 64 bit )on windows 2008 64 bit. In Linux, I manually create my oinstall and dba group as well as the oraadmin account and oracle account. Is this a similar process on windows 2008 server? Also, should I join the host to the domain, or leave it out of the domain? is it that simple, that you just log into the windows server with an account that has administrator right and just run setup.exe? Will the oracle installer create these groups for you? And last, if I do join the host to the domain, should I use a domain admin type account?
This will be installed on a Dell server with 1.2 TB (RAID 5). yes, one large drive, but will be partitioned as drives d,e,f and g. Any tuning tips would be appreciated..
Thanks all..
Rob

This documentation should answer all your questions. And, on a side note, it is a lot easier to install Oracle on Windows compared to Unix/Linux and no, I am not saying installation on Unix/Linux is difficult :-)

  • Problems installing OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit

    Hi, I'm trying to install OBIEE 11g on Windows Server 2008 64 bit (standard edition, SP2), and it's blowing up running the installer. The installer gets past the first couple of "info" screens, but blows up prior to coming to the first "real" screen with an error:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Assertion Failed:
    Program: ...
    File: ../../../src/share/native/sun/font/t2k/t2kstrm.c
    Line: 132
    Expression: pos <= t->maxPos
    Has anyone seen this and/or have an idea how to work around this? Note that I did do the prerequisite download / install of the 2005 Visual C++ 64 bit libraries.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Just to close the loop on this thread, this does indeed seem to be some sort of font / java issue on our servers. I've been completely unable to get the install to work using the GUI. However, if I run it from command line using the -silent and -response paramaters along with a proper response file, the install went perfectly. I'm going to continue working the SR with Oracle - don't want to be stuck using -silent mode when things get more complicated, but at least now I can move forward.
    If anyone else has a better workaround - please let me know. "Silent" mode is workable, but difficult and time consuming.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • About memory issue during installing Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003

    Hi, all
    When I installed Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003 which the server is a virtual server, Oracle only can detect 2G memory.
    But there are 4G memory with my server.
    I want to know if the Oracle 11g's new feature or the virtual server lead the issue.
    Also , I want to get your help to resolve the issue, thanks a lot.

    Let me get this straight:
    You have created some virtual machine using someone's unknown VM software.
    You have installed Windows Server 2003 (perhaps, but not confirmed 32-bit) to that VM.
    You have allocated 4GB of memory to the VM (we guess ... not sure I'm ready to take your word on this)
    You are attempting to install Oracle 11g (presumably 11gR1 32 bit for Windows) in the VM
    And the Oracle (installer?) seems to be reporting that you only have 2GB RAM.
    Since I personally have installed Oracle 11g 32bit for Windows on Windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM and had no issues, I would be investigating the (unknown) VM environment.

  • Can't get past OCX error when installing ODAC 11g on Windows Server 2003

    I have been trying to install ODAC 11g on Windows Server 2003 and can't get past the OCX error when registering oravsdbgeng11w.dll. I've read every message on this forum even remotely related to this problem and tried every solution offered. I have done a clean install into a new Oracle home, and made sure Instant Client is always included. All service packs and automatic updates have been installed. For what it's worth I have successfully installed ODAC 11g on Windows XP Pro.
    If anyone out there has been able to get this up and running and would care to share the wisdom that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Michael, as you already noticed, every time I have seen this issue it has been because ODT was being installed into an Oracle home where no client exists, or perhaps installed into an old oracle home where the client was an old version (eg Oracle10), or the client was broken. Usually though, the user unchecked the instant client checkbox during the ODAC install.
    So you say you checked instant client and you still got the error? That doesn't add up...
    Are you using 32-bit windows? If you are using 64 bit windows be sure to tell us.
    Why don't you try avoiding using instant client at all, in case it is somehow not getting installed properly.
    You can do this as follows:
    1) Under the download links on OTN, go to the database download page.
    2) Download the Oracle Database client 11g for Microsoft Windows
    3) Run this installer and Install ODP.NET 1.x and 2.x into a new Oracle home from this client install, but nothing else. If ODP.NET is not listed there (it has been a long time since I looked at that) than just install a minimal Oracle client install.
    4) Close the installer
    5) Go back and install ODAC and this time choose "Oracle Server" radio button during the install (rather than the client install)
    6) Install ODT and ODP.NET at least and be sure they are being installed into the Oracle home created in the first steps above.
    This will avoid use of Instant Client and will hopefully avoid the OCX error. Let me know if this solves your problem.

  • Installing Dirsync on Windows 2008 Server Standard FE

    Hello all,
    I need to Dirsync my only domain controller i have to Office 365.  My server is a Windows 2008 Server Standard FE.  I installed all requirement for dirsync to be installed (and all Windows updates also) and i still get an error when trying to install
    (Says my Powershell is not at least 2.0, but it is...)
    Anyone tried to install Dirsync on that kind of server ? (and made it work?)
    Regards,

    It is
    required to update to Windows Management Framework 3.0 or Powershell 3.0 if you are installing DirSync on Windows 2008 R2.  I believe the same applies to 2008 SP1 as well.
    Also, I've heard of issues where non-English versions don't properly detect the presence of PowerShell.  You may want to temporarily change your regional format  to English to test this, if this applies to you.

    Additional apps shoudl be installed in a server environment (Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012). Does this work woith Adobe Creative cloud?
    I tried installing our standalone InDesign license on a server, bbut this doesb't work.

  • Is it Posssible to install 10g &11g in same server(2003)?

    Hi frnds,
    Already we are having 10g database in Windows server 2003 Environment .It is running properly.
    Is it possible to install 11g server in the same server.
    ~will it be a problem?
    ~will it disturb the 10g ?
    ~ otherwise any configuration we need to change.
    Regards,
    Muthu

    Each Oracle install is self-contained. Oracle does this by using a top level directory (fiolder) for each install known as the ORACLE_HOME. Each Oracle Home includes all the required software so the various versions do not conflict.
    The major issue is to make sure the version you are installing is indeed certified on that operating system. (see http://tahiti.oracle.com, go to the version you want, and look for the Install guide on your OS family) If it is not listed in the install documentation, you will probably have either challenges or complete failure.
    But for the database, co-existance is not (generally) a problem.
    You should, however, use only one listener for the entire machine, and that listener should be the one at the highest version. The easy way of handling this is to turn off the older database AND listener (control panel) while installing the newer version.

  • Select Record Between Date Gap-Oracle 11g, Windows 2008 server

    hello everyone,
    I have a sql query where I need to select only records with an 18 month gap between max(date) and previous date( no dates between max(date)
    and 18 month gap date), when I run the below query it should only select supid 130, not 120 (even though 120 does contain an 18 month gap date it also has a date that is less then the 18 month gap( '25-NOV-2012','DD-MON-YYYY').
    how would get the query to look back 18 months for the next date and evaluate the month_between.
    any help is greatly appreciated.
    example:
    create table supply(supID number(8), supply varchar2(20), supdate Date,supamount number(13,2));
    insert into supply values(100,'Tapes',to_date('01-AUG-2013','DD-MON-YYYY'),50.00);
    insert into supply values(100,'TV',to_date('01-APR-2013','DD-MON-YYYY'),250.00);
    insert into supply values(100,'Discs',to_date('25-DEC-2012','DD-MON-YYYY'),25.00);
    insert into supply values(120,'Tablets',to_date('25-AUG-2013','DD-MON-YYYY'),15.00);
    insert into supply values(120,'Paper',to_date('25-NOV-2012','DD-MON-YYYY'),35.00);

    Something like this?
    select

    , supdate
    , supamount
    , lead(supdate) over (partition by supid order by supdate desc) ldate

    LDATE
    130
    Discs
    07/25/2013

  • Can't connect Forms 6i to Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2008 SE

    Hi everyone,
    I have Oracle 10g working pretty well with Forms 6i, but now I have installed Oracle 11g on another server and I'm trying to connect Forms 6i to my other Oracle 11g server, but Forms 6i never gets connected. Is there any trick to make it work? I have check the upper cases and other things related with lower and upper case passwords, but nothinh happens.
    Can anyone please help me?

    Hello;
    Its probably the Oracle client that installs with Forms 6. Try connecting to the database using SQL Plus from a Forms workstation. If it fails I would install a newer client and switch the Oracle Home on all the workstations.
    ( Provided it tests out )
    I would probably try using the Net Configurations Assistant in your Oracle Start Menu group with all combinations I could think of before I added a second client to the mix.
    Of minor interest :

    So I'm sorry to say you are out of options. I also checked the Forms Forum and the few posts there on Forms 6 ( Obsolete in 2004 ) all agree. Forms 6 and Oracle 11 database do not play together.
    I hope at least I saved you some time.

  • Problems in Installing Oracle 10g,11g on same server

    All,
    I install oracle 10.2.0 on RHEL 4.7 and running successfully,
    How i can Install more database 10.2.0 at same server, and what i have to changed in .bash_profile
    what change i have to do for installing Oracle 11g on same server.
    Thanks

    I am not being strict in my answer as it would might confuse.
    Providing you did not use Oracle Express Edition ...
    dbca should be able to create and sort out another database 10g for you.
    Be careful not to run out of resources {eg use too much main memory}
    You can switch between oracle databases in the same oracle home (which is what you will have) by 'export ORACLE_SID=SID2' where SID ... providing your bash_profile sets up the environment required for your first oracle database.
    When putting new oracle home installations {eg an 11g installation} on a machine where there is an existing oracle home my rough rule of thumb is to unset variable that relate to existing oracle homes before dpoing install (possible exception of ORACLE_BASE).
    eg:
    oracle$ env
    ORACLE_SID=SID2
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/prouct/10.2.0
    ORA_NLS10=...
    oracle$ unset ORACLE_SID
    oracle$ unset ORACLE_HOME
    oracle$ /stage/whatever/runInstallerI think the argument is begining to go against seting ORACLE_HOME and other home specific stuff etc in the .bash_profile.
