Step Install RAC: Oracle Clusterware -> Oracle Database (ASM) -> Oracle Database (RDBMS)
You are using raw device for database files ? (How about Oracle Database? Enterprise Edition or Standard...)
Wish to hear your idea...

  • Installing RAC on Linux 9.0

    Hi friends,
I tried to install RAC on two intel based pc with 80gb firewire drive on Linux 9.0.
But, I could not succeed. I was wondering if someone please tell me that it is possible to install it on LINUX 9.0 because I cannot afford Linux AS 2.1.
I follow oracle documentation, Werner Puschitz Documents, I also follow Rampant press book "Installing RAC..". But no one really helps me as all they are talking about Linux AS 2.1.
Pleased help me in this. I really appreciate it.
Thanks and have a good day.

  • PATCH Oracle RAC 10gR2 DB on Linux

    Hello,
I want to patch 2 node RAC 10gR2 DB (Standard Edition) on SLES 11. I have patched signle instance DB with OPATCH, but never patched RAC DB, kind of very nervous. I am not able to find generally and also from MOS regarding step by step process to patch RAC 10gR2 on SLES OS. In the readme of the Patch, I do not find step by step detail of how to ....regarding RAC. Following is the information regarding the current setup, please have a look and suggest/help me, as it's a production DB and I'm little afraid to Patch it.
I've also other general questions please, like:
    - In RAC, how many homes are normall there to patch? DB,CRS, Grid?
    - Clusterware (CRS) and ASM has same home?. Are they same?. Pathing any one means pathing both ASM and CRS, right?

    Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
What I noticed before that as ASM-GI has same home, so I need to apply one patch for that. After your reply I am planning to do it like that only.
As I have posted in my main post the versions of patches to apply for Oracle Home. That seems somehow clear to me what to apply and, etc. Can you please suggest which Patch or how to find/select next patch version to apply to ASM/GI home please?
When we select PATCH ADVISOR from MOS, for example in case of DB home, I select DB,Enterprise,Standard editio,9i,10g,11,d, OS Linux-x64,10.2.0.4. DB,OS version etc is OK, but I am confused what to select from that first drop down menu in order to select patch version for ASM/GI ??
    @onedba
I am planning to Patch not upgrade.
    Thanks and regards.

I want to install grid infrastructure on linux running as a virtual machine
how can I install and configure it? Please help me .
can ubuntu  work as a virtual machine for oracle rac?

    Hi,
I suggest you use Oracle Enterprise Linux on your lab.  There are a lot of step-by-step guide to install RAC on OEL.  A good example is by Tim Hall, search Google for "Tim Hall Oracle Database RAC Installation".

  • Installing RAC on 11g - Linux 5

I will install RAC on DB 11g in Lunux 5.
I am evaluating hardware needed for the implementation.
I have two server in Linux.
    Server 1 - I have My BD 11G
Server 2 - Is my new server for RAC.
Now. I don't understand about the shared storage.
Is necessary buy a shared storage for RAC? because, I have revised in some notes and It mentioned that not is necessary the shared storage. that with server 1 and server 2 can make a RAC with clusterware It is correct.
    Thanks,
    Guido

    Hello,
    Welcome to the forums.

Is necessary buy a shared storage for RAC? because, I have revised in some notes and It mentioned that not is necessary the shared storage. that with server 1 and server 2 can make a RAC with >clusterware It is correct. You don't need to buy a new one if you can create shared disks (which will be mounted on both of your RAC nodes) on your existing available storage in your organization. You have to have shared file system.
following note should be best for you in this regard where you don't need to buy any extra storage but you can use NFS to build your cluster. This article is for 11GR1, but it can also help you for 11GR2

  • 10g RAC on Linux

    All,
I am having strange problem while setting up 10g RAC on Linux box. This is two node cluster (rac1 and rac2) Two probelms..
    1. When I install CRS on rac1, it copies the files to rac2 and olsnodes -n works fine from both nodes, But when I run runinstaller on node 2 and try to see installed products, I don't see CRS oracle home there on rac2.
    2. When I start installing 10g database on rac1 , at third step "Hardware Cluster Installation Mode:" I see my both nodes listed there, but I don't see "SELECT ALL" button on that screen. So when I finish installation, it doesn't copy files to rac2.
Does Anyone has any idea why it is behaving like this?
    Thanks
    Puneet

    Hi,
I found one thing.. If I change ORACLE_HOME location while running OUI, it doesn't give SELECT ALL button , but if I let Installer to select oracle_HOME, it worrks fine and give SELECT ALL button too.
Don't understand why it is behaving like this?

  • 10g Grid (RAC) on Linux with ASM and OCR?

I was trying to install 10g on Linux with ASM. The docs are not terribly clear on this, but I'd like to have the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) on one of my four ASM disks, rather than dedicate space to OCFS. I have 4 18.2 GB drives setup with ASM now. Is there a way to do this?
I guess the other thing I could do is to cut the ASM disks into two partitions. One, say 200MB and the other the rest. I'd put OCFS for OCR on the 200MB partition on one of the disks. The large partition on each of the rest of the disks would be dedicated to ASM.
What am I missing? I feel it must be something obvious. I'd rather have the OCR on the ASM, so that I don't have to deal with it...
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hi.
There shouldn't be a problem with this provided you use a 32-bit OS on the 64 bit machine. RAC doesn't care about the chipset, so long as the same OS is used, but I don't thinkit will support one node on 32 bit and one on 64 bit, since they are actually separate distributions.
Of course, I've never tried it so I can't be sure :)
    Cheers
    Tim...

  • 10g RAC with linux 3 AS+ocfs

    Hi:
Is anyone install 10g RAC on linux 3AS with ocfs successfully?
I am having problem with CRS installation where installer ask to run root.sh. My first node finished root.sh without any problem but not second node it give me "Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack." error. Moreover, I found "ERROR: clssnmconnect: failed, rc = 3, node samurai (1), (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=racs01-priv1)(PORT=49895))" error in ocssd2.log file. However, I can ping privet and public ip/hostname without any problem. Any input or suggestions are welcome!

Did you ever get a responce to this?
I'm having the very same issue, which I can not find a work around.
Documents for the 10g install have been very few and far between, so any help would be the greatest!

  • Can I install RAC in my pc computer?

I am learning RAC, trying to install RAC on my PC computer.
Both computer are dell, same configuration, and each computer has two network cards.
I have another USB external hard disk, used for the storage, is that doable?
Now I will try to install linux + oracle 10g + 10g RAC, is that doable?
do I need other hardware or software?
    appreciated for any suggestions.
    Thanks.

The easiest would be to install the virtual software like Virtual Box(free and from Oracle) ad install RAC using it. If you want to physical machines, try to arrange a third machine whose disk you can use as a shared hard drive using a software called Openfiler( http://www.openfiler.com/) . This would be closest that you would be able to get to a production box. If you really want to spend money than you can buy an old shared storage from Ebay.

    Hello,
i think you can work best if you connect your guest to the host network and working from the host directly (if you have no skill with linux). To do this "system-config-network" if avaible on the guest will help you to set ip address.
Otherwise use a text editor like vi or something like that. Most folks these days can not even spell vi when spotted one of the two letters.
All they know how to do is click on the GEDIT icon. What does this mean ?

  • Installing RAC in Solaris 10 T2000

How can I create a shared file system using a Oracle cluster or a Sun Cluster software, the hard drive are locally in the T2000 server and I created 2 domains using the ldm.
    ldm list
NAME STATE FLAGS CONS VCPU MEMORY UTIL UPTIME
    primary active -n-cv- SP 4 1G 1.1% 73d 23h 12m
    racdomain1 active -n---- 5000 9 3000M 0.0% 9m
    racdomain2 active -n---- 5001 9 3000M 0.0% 9m
Can you send details how can I create the raw devices and data files file system ?

    I have some more questions:
How can I have the raw device shared by 2 servers?Yes - if the device/LUN is shared between cluster nodes. In other words, each cluster node need to see the same device. Once that is done, you can simply partition the device (if needed) and turn that into a raw device.
You will however need to configure the raw device entries (a file called +/etc/sysconfig/rawdevices+ on Linux) on each node.
Remember that you need 5 raw devices typically - 2 for the OCR and 3 for the Voting Disks.
Not sure about Solaris, but raw devices have been deprecated on the Linux 2.6 kernel as block devices can now be opened using direct I/O. Oracle recommends not using raw devices on Linux anymore. Not sure if this applies to Solaris. If it does, then 10g CRS Installer have a bug that prevents it from using block devices - forcing you to use raw devices (and then change it back to block devices after CRS has been installed). Or, you may find it easier to install 11g CRS instead and run 10g RAC on it (a certified Oracle combination).
Do I have to install ASM before the Oracle Clusterware SW?No. You install CRS first. Once that is installed correctly and successfully, then install RAC. I prefer installing RAC without checking any "+create db+" options.
Once RAC has been successfully installed, use dbca to create the ASM instances. Once that is done, create the the RAC database and instances.

Why the version installed Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release is 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit?
    How to fix this problem?
Thank you for your information.Looks like you are connecting to a database running from a different oracle home (maybe even a different box) than where you installed your 10.2.0.1.

  • Java application (tomcat) and Oracle RAC 10gR2

Hi, I have an Oracle RAC 10gR2 (10.2.0.3) on Suse Linux Enterprise Server (3 nodes).
I have several application running on tomcat 5.X and tomcat 6.X with java 1.5 and java 1.6. Sometimes, because of hardware fail, network problems,... one of the nodes fails, and then the other 2 nodes still working and my database is up. However, the most of applications lose the connection with the database, and I must to restart the tomcat. I want to have a system more reliable and robust, and I want to prepare the tomcat's and java application for prevent it. I have read the http://drdobbs.com/java/222700353?pgno=1 and http://db360.blogspot.com/2007/01/is-your-java-application-failoverproof.html. I've been tried the example of the first url, but I don't connect with my database. However, I've probe the sample on another oracle rac (10.2.0.4) and it works. In the samples, it use the ucp.jar (11g) and ons.jar (10g) and ojdbc6.jar (11g driver).
Anyone can help me how can I configure my application for I must not to restart the tomcats??
    Thanks you very much!!.
