Install ram in macbook pro

Hi,
I have a problem with my macbook pro when I replace the ram. I can not open the memory door. A screw does not look good and I can not unscrew it. So how can I sovle that problem.

Stripped screws are always a challenge. This is what I would try. Get a screwdriver that is as large as possible but still fits in the slot. Put a tremendous amount of force straight down and try to unscrew while force is applied. If that doesn't work try a flat head screw driver. If you strip it all the way out, it's okay. Continue to do so until a torx willjust barely fit down in the hole and remove it. If you can get it unscrewed a little, you can put a flat head screw driver under the head of the screw and pry up to give you a little friction to remove the screw. However, the screws that hold the memory access door down are very short, so that shouldn't be necessary. As always if you don't feel comfortable doing this, then seek help from someone who is trained and certified. An apple certified center should be able to replace the screw for you.

I recently bought some ram however the only screwdriver i have that fits the screws on the ram panel are small eyeglass screwdrivers and i believe they may be slightly magnetic. Will this hurt anything or should I go out and buy a set of regular screwdrivers?

No, a magnetic screwdriver should not cause you any problems with your MacBook, the power of the magnet used in those type of items is not sufficient to damage a computer as a general rule.

Installing 8GB ram on MacBook Pro (Mid 2010)

Hi, I have bought 8GB(2*4GB) ram to install on my macbook pro, when I install both I get a black screen but when installing one or the other with one of the original ram they both work. What can I do to fix this problem??

When you install RAM, reboot your computer with the "D" key held down (or the Option-D keys). These will load the Apple Hardware Tests.
With these tests open, check the box for the extended memory test, and then start the test. This will have the system thoroughly test the RAM for errors.
In your case, it appears you may have a bad set of RAM modules, but you can check them using the method above.
When you have them paired with your original RAM, how much memory does the system report as being available when you select About This Mac in the Apple menu? If you are using Lion or Mountain Lion, then in this panel click "More Info" and then select the "Memory" section, and see what the system reports as being installed.
Is this RAM test necessay with every upgrade of memory or just if you have problems after the upgrade

4GB RAM on MacBook Pro 15 ?

actually it's true. it's not the motherboard, it's the intel chipset. there was an interview with a tech spokesperson from apple about this on anandtech I believe.
while you can physically put 4GB into the slots, the intel chipset will only be able to address slightly more than 3GB of it. apple made the decision to be reasonable about this and state that the max RAM for these machines is 3GB so that customers are not wasting their money on buying 4GB. other manufacturers are either not being so honest about it, or they haven't even bothered to pay any attention to the intel spec on the core 2 duo chipset. if your dell is reporting that it actually has the full 4GB (and it is indeed a core 2 duo machine) then it's just giving you a reading of what chips are installed, nothing more. any system profiling app that can really look into what amount of RAM is actually addressable will show that the full real amount is less than 3.7GB (or less than that I can't remember). the information is all there at intel if you want to go get it from the horse's mouth.
there is absolutely nothing about OSX that limits it to less than 4GB. it makes no sense to assume that.. the OSX installed on MBPs is identical to the OSX on other machines like mac pros, which can support well and truly more than 4GB RAM as there is no chipset limitation in the xeons.
anyway as I said, this info is all out there in the public domain, you can even email support at intel and ask them to explain exactly why the core 2 duo chipset (in any machine, mac or PC or otherwise) has this RAM limitation.

Will Windows 7 Pro run with 16GB of Ram in Macbook Pro Early 2011 13-inch?, Does the brand of the Ram matter ?
I installed Crucial 16 gb and the Mac runs just fine but Windows won't start. It gets to the login screen then it turns white.

I decided to make another try today after some reading and googling the internet.
I started windows with my old 4GB memory and changed the bootconfiguration with msconfig. I typed manually in max memory tp 16384 MB and saved the settings. Then I turned it off and inserted the 16GB ram again. Then it started really but when looking at the properties of my computer it says 16 GB installed but I can only use 2,16GB. So I opened msconfig again and changed the settings once more and restarted. Now it says 16GB installed but I can use 14,2GB so I guess it is ok now for some strange reason. I suppose the lost 1,8GB is for the system ?? Do I dare to turn it off again :-) what will it say next time ?
I am so happy and greatful for all your help, I really really appreciate it and I hope my solution will come to use for someone else with same problem.

A clean install on my MacBook Pro has left my icons stuck on the right side of the desktop. I want to move them but there is no 'None' option which I think would free them to move where I wish. Suggestions?

A clean install on my MacBook Pro has left me with my icons stuck in the grid on the right side of my desktop. I had the ability to move them and have them stay put in various sectors of the desktop, which I found very useful. The clean install upgraded the OS to 10.6.8 from 10.5.8. I want to move them again but there I see no 'None' option which I think would free them to move where I wish. Has the upgrade deleted that option? Suggestions? I am new to this community and if not new to Mac, I often feel that way. This is one of those times.

I have the same problem on the latest iTunes software and Windows 7. My window is maximzed and I do not see any tab for photos. Seems related to a recent update (IOS7?) as this was there - at least before the very big change to the interface.

The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

You don't lose them. You can always redownload them from the app store after you log back in with your Apple ID.

Installing XP on Macbook pro in bootcamp ~updates first?

For installing XP on Macbook pro in bootcamp what updates should I have installed first? I have already installed parallels with XP and all is well but I have one PC program that will not run on parallels and needs to be setup in a Bootcamp environment. I want to run the same version of XP in bootcamp - I hope.
If anyone has experence in partitioning the HD without compromising the Parallels OS setup and the MAC OS please advise, or where I can find instruction for doing this. Thank you.

Thanks- that what I was hoping. I wanted to run Windows XP- do you recommend a specific partition size? I have found information that is a bit conflicting about installing the same copy of Windows as was is installed on my Parallels. Some information states that it will wipe out my XP in Parallels if I try to install the same CD in Bootcamp,then there is information about work around's - and running Bootcamp inside of Parallels? Yikes!
I have been told by the software manufacturer I need bootcamp to run 'Pool Studio' on a MAC- that I can't use Parallels- do you have any idea if running the bootcamp Virtural Machine inside of Parallels would act the same as a separate version of windows. Except possible eleveate the licence issue.
Its ****** to have to buy another windows licience to run one program.

The largest 2.5" dia SATA drives available are 2 TB in capacity.
Have you tried the Seagate SSHD connected externally to the MBP via USB? The drive itself may be faulty.

Adobe CS4 will not install on new macbook pro [was: pro]

Adobe CS4 will not install on new macbook pro. It is coming from my other macbook.

Install normally means running setup from the orginal discs or the downloadable trial version. If you are copying from a backup or another computer, that won't work.
Best advice is to download the CS4 trial, and have your serial number ready in order to convert the trial into a licensed version.
Get the trial here. Follow the instructions carefully or the download link won't work.

The Creative Cloud App for desktop can't be installed on my Macbook pro

I've have bought the Photoshop + Lightroom applications via the creative cloud. I can download the installion file for Crative Cloud app for desktop and I can start the installation process but it is interrupted halfway through with a message saying "The following problem have encountered: Creative Cloud for desktop could not be installed". There are no hints for any solution. I've tried to use Opera instead of Safari but the same thing happens. Is there anyone that knows what the solution for this problem is? Sincerely Lars

Rename OOBE folder with OOBEOLD ( Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder )
Run the Adobe cleaner ( http://helpx.adobe.com/content/dam/help/en/support/AdobeCreativeCloudC leanerTool.dmg )
Remove Adobe application Manager/Adobe creative cloud .
Restart the computer and redownload Adobe Creative cloud and install it.

I have a 2 year old Air with 1.8 GHz i5 4 GB that is more than adequate and extremely fast for the uses you describe.
Is battery life a factor in your decision? If so, knowing that may help someone else give you some more input.
