Install Red hat build tree

Hi,
Seems like the /usr/src/redhat/* is empty in our Oracle Linux installed on exalogic compute nodes.
I want the /usr/src/redhat/BUILD , /usr/src/redhat/SPECS etc contents basicaly redhat src release tree installed,
I do see kernel-devel package installed though-

Would you know the correct package to install on Oracle Linux so that /usr/src/redhat/BUILD /SPECS have entries?

Do you understand the difference between the source and binary package distribution? The days when it was a common task to rebuild the Linux kernel or any standard software are long gone and history. Please explain what you are trying to accomplish.

  • How to Install Oracle on Red Hat Linux?

    My System is having P4 1.8 GHz Processor with 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD(7 GB Linux Partition + 1 GB Swap Partition). I have installed Red Hat Linux 9(Server). Now, I want to install Oracle 9 on this syste. But I don't know how to install it. Anyone who knows this, plz, mail me the necessary system requirements alongwith some settings, if any. My Email ID is [email protected]/[email protected]

    I think you'll have some problems with 128MB RAM.....<br><br>
    :P Nonsense, but I do hope that hard drive is one of those new, fancy flash hard drives, otherwise the system will spend so much time swapping that it won't get past the installer.

    Get the official installation guides at
    http://service.sap.com/instguides
    However, they won't contain "now enter command X and now enter command Y". You will need to have a basic understanding what you are doing before you can install a SAP system (and the database).

  • Installation Problem Oracle 9.2.0.4 on Red Hat Linux 5

    I have installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. I want to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.4) Server.
    I have created oracle user and set oracle home directory in the .bash_profile.After that i run runinstaller file but the message comes as below..
    'The user is root. Oracle Universal Installer cannot continue installation if the user is root. No such file or directory.
    Please tell me the actual solution.
    - Prasanta

    First of all, as pointed out by Hans, make sure you perform the installation with the oracle user, not root.
    Next, you should be aware that installing Ora9iR2 on RHEL5 is neither supported nor planned, so you must be aware you will be on your own. There is no official procedure to install 9i on RHEL5, however, considering you will use this for personal purposes, not production, you can attempt the procedure provided by Ivan Kartik --> Oracle 9i on RHEL 5.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Red Hat Linux on a Dell Poweredge

    We have a Dell PowerEdge 6400 server with PERC 2/DC raid
    controllers.
    We have installed Red Hat Linux 6.2.
    According to the installation guide in order to install Oracle
    8.1.7 we need to recompile the Kernal to get to version 2.2.19-
    6.2.7.
    Recompiling the Kernal causes a failure in the Raid controllers.
    I realise that this isn't strictly Oracle but I wondered if
    anyone had met this problem before. It appears virtually
    impossible to configure this combination to support Oracle.

    Yes there is a lot of information out there. Oracle 8.1.6,
    8.1.7, 9 on Linux 6, 7, 9.
    Which glibc? binutils? compat-libs?
    For 8.1.7 on Redhat 9
    Please try: http://www3.sympatico.ca/arothmel/oracle/817.html
    Still evolving. Feedback welcome :)

  • FMS RED HAT LINUX PROBLEMS

    Hi,
    I hope that someone can help me. I am having so much trouble
    getting FMS to work it is unbelievable.
    We have installed FMS onto virtual server running Red Hat
    Linux Enterprise 3. We have managed to get
    FMS running but cannot get a connection to work. This is
    using the sample application 'textchat'. here is a summary of what
    we and a coleague have done.
    1) I have linked the libraries to obtain the desired
    libssl.so.4,
    libssl.so.6, libcrypto.so.4 and libcrypto.so.6.
    2) I have installed the lates mozilla firefox and the latest
    flash
    plugin (together with the update-flashplugin)
    3) Then I have created the installation by adding the
    following entry:
    /etc/redhat-release together with it's content
    4) Then I have performed a regular fms installation together
    with adding
    the licensing etc. I have also copied the textchat main.asc
    file and the
    textchat pages (swf and html)
    So basically we have added all the missing libraries (that we
    know of...cmon adobe get it together £3000
    and you don't even include relavent libraries) .
    If any body has any ideas please reply. we are almost a month
    down the line struggling with this software.
    Thanks for an help

    Got Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3 to work on Red Hat Enterprise 6.3 Linux with out using asmlib and oracleasm.
    SQL> alter system set asm_diskstring='/DATA/','/FRA/' scope=both;

    The issue I had encountered that was that I tried to install and configure Grid Infrastructure the way that I had previously using Red Hat Linux 5.5, 5.8 and then 6.0. I had decided to install Red Hat Linux 6.3 which does not support Oracle asmlib and oracleasm to keep up with the technology and to be innovative.
    Oracle has added significant enhancements to Grid Infrastructure. The only way to become aware of these enhancements is to "Do It". I've documented this implementation and will now

  • Kernel Params for Red Hat 6.0

    I've been assigned to put oracle on a Dell installed RED Hat 6.0
    box.
    The Kernel Params are driving me nutty.
    First of all, the docs are saying that SHMMAX needs to be
    4294967295. I can't understand why Oracle can't just tell you
    what to enter into the header straight and simple in HEX. My
    hex calculator can't manipulate this magnitude. Is this
    documentation even correct? It seems 2 digits too large from
    everything else I'm looking at.
    The rest of the kernel code is largley defined dynamically:
    It looks like this.
    Should I over ride all this?
    #define SHMID_BITS 7
    #define SHM_ID_MASK ((1<<_SHM_ID_BITS)-1)
    #define SHM_IDX_SHIFT (_SHM_ID_BITS)
    #define SHMIDX_BITS 15
    #define SHM_IDX_MASK ((1<<_SHM_IDX_BITS)-1)
    * SHMID_BITS + SHMIDX_BITS must be <= 24 on the i386 and
    * SHMMAX <= (PAGE_SIZE << SHMIDX_BITS).
    #define SHMMAX 0x2000000 /* max shared seg size
    (bytes) */
    /* Try not to change the default shipped SHMMAX - people rely on
    it */
    #define SHMMIN 1 /* really PAGE_SIZE */ /* min shared seg size
    (bytes) */
    #define SHMMNI (1<<_SHM_ID_BITS) /* max num of segs system
    wide */
    #define SHMALL /* max shm system wide
    (pages) */ \
    (1<<(_SHM_IDX_BITS+SHMID_BITS))
    #define SHMLBA PAGE_SIZE /* attach addr a multiple
    of this */
    #define SHMSEG SHMMNI /* max shared segs per
    process */
    #endif /* ASMI386SHMPARAM_H */
    null

    If the system cats back -1 (or -273 etc) for inputs that big, I
    don't how we are going to obtain a positive outcome.
    The hex is not the point. The point is that 4 gig ints echoed
    into the /proc directory return negitive integers.

  • How to upgrdae Oracle Cluster on Red Hat Linux 3 to Red hat Linux 4 AS U 7

    We need to upgrade our Clustered (2 Nodes) Oracle Database environment on Linux environment to Red Hat 4 AS 7. The current OS version is Red Hat 3 update 6. We use EMC SAN Storage as shared storage (OCFS and Raw Devices) for our 9i and 10g databases
    Question: We will install (on local disks) Red Hat 4 AS Update 7 and then install ocfs and ASMlib RPMs. Is there any risk of loosing the existing (on Red Hat 3 update 6) ocfs file systems and raw devices (from EMC SAN Storgae) after we do fresh install of OS and ocfs and ASMlib RPMs? How can we keep the shared storage data quickly available (without restore from the backup) to the system after installing Red Hat 4 AS Update 7 and mentioned RPMs?

    We need to install Red Hat Enterprise 5.2 on UCS B200 M1, but could not find the driver for Qlogic CNA M71KR-Q.
    Any pointers or suggestions?

    Check out the UCS Drivers iso file on cisco.com/support.  Download the 1.02 driver ISO and in there you'll find the Qlogic, Emulex etc drivers.
    On a hunch, I checked the older 1.01e ISO and that only had drivers for RHEL4.8 and RHEL5.3.
    You might need to use RHEL5.3

  • Red Hat OS updates certified by Oracle
