Hello and thanks so much for your quick reply. I am at a standstill, because I have done those things already and it has not worked. The repair install procedure seemed to take place quickly, but the same thing happened again when I tried to uninstall it the program after that.... It seems to proceed, then the progress bar goes backward, and there it still is!
When I downloaded the Microsoft Fixit program and asked it to uninstall the Apple Mobile device Support, it started but then got stuck and I had to shut my computer off, as it froze everything up!
I'm hoping you can help..... This seems to be a problem with the new version, and it's frustrating, because I can't use Itunes on my computer at all till we find a solution.
Perhaps if I try to restore my computer to before the Itunes 11.1.4 uodate?

Depending on the hardware it has, there are some models that can't have W7 installed on them, due to the fact that there are no W7 drivers for some of the hardware.

I have an active subscription but everytime I open the program it says trial expired. I have installed, reinstalled, and installed again. I have also installed the windows registry patch.

It wouldn't install for nearly 5 times I tried to do this. Now it's finally installed again but it won't budge past the trial version. I click BUY NOW but then it says "error you already have a subscription" then it times out and just stays on the Trial Expired page.

Please log out from your Adobe application and login again.
Once you launch Acrobat and get error saying trial expired, you will find an option saying 'license this software'.
Select this option and enter your credentials.
Now check and let me know.

I installed Chrome and uninstalled it, and Firefox will only open in Safemode after this.

I installed Chrome, then I uninstalled chrome, and now Firefox only opens in safe mode. I have XP, and Firefox just updated itself to 3.6.8 despite the safe mode. I still use it functionally, but it's annoying. Yes, I am sure it is in safe mode, because the little box that says it is in safe mode pops up offering to disable things. It does not affect how Firefox runs at all (well, oddly, FF seems more stable, but it might have been the upgrade, too).

i tried changing normal to maximised; no effect. either i need also to change the numbers (to match a maximised window) or ff ignores this. i want to be able to open different sites in different windows, and not have to maximise them manually. ff never used to be broken, why break this? what possible security flaw was fixed by screwing up ff to never open maximised unless u hack it or delete certain config files?

Hi I'm a pc user and I've a 2.0GHz MacBook using Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. I've installed Windows using boot camp beta and recently i notice that there is virus which is slowing the system and some web pages not loading. I did a search and boot camp is avaiable using Leopard or I could use parallel. I don't want to spend anymore money so what can i do now? any suggestions?

Are you referring to your Windows partition? If so, either run your 'virus protection' software or simply reinstall Windows. If you're referring to the Mac OS X partition, then I doubt you are encountering a virus and perhaps need to run some standard system Maint. scripts.

Help on how to install msn and uninstall programmes!

i'm sorry if i seem rather dim from this, i promise i am not, just have a PC conditioned mind and finding it hard to negotiate my Mac.
Firstly, when i try and install msn messenger it downloads the exe file, then when i try and open it it opens with firefox and doesn't actually set up, any help on how to address this would be GREATLY appreciated.
Also, how do i view the programmes i have installed, and more to the point, how do i uninstall them????i am utterly confused by this.
i am sorry if these are really common questions and you are getting sick of hearing them. any help would be ace.

first, you have downloaded the Windows version of the Messenger, you need the Mac version:

Uninstalling programmes in OSX is fairly simple:
When the programm has an uninstaller, use it.
When it has not, you can simply drag it to the trash and that's it.
Although with the this method, usually some Preference files are left behind, but that is not a great thing to be afraid of.

Reinstalled and no windows show up

I needed to reinstall my FC Studio 2 and now when I launch Compressor, it gives me a blank screen. I can pull down the menus. It seems to be acting like the layout is visible but in reality it's not. It shows the Compressor menu bar and the desktop. However, if I click on the desktop, it doesn't switch to the Finder. It stays in Compressor.
Anyone had this problem? And how do you fix?

I'd been having the same problems as Graiai (no windows showing up after a hard disc clone and swap) and then I remembered "Time Machine", and re-instated Compressor from that ..that got my Window back, but that pesky "Unable to submit to queue. Please restart your computer or verify your Compressor installation is correct" message kept coming up.
I re-installed the whole of FCP2 and applied updates, but still no luck.
So I came here, to Compressor Discussions.
Using your second link (..to http://www.scottsimmons.tv/blog/2008/01/11/compressor-hatred-resolved/ ..) I followed his instructions, and Replaced software with Pacifist, though STILL no luck..
Then I re-applied the software updates ..and now it works (..for me..) again!
So thanks from one satisfied Discussions user in the UK. I hope that Graiai has similar luck to me ..we-ell, not simply luck, but if Graiai follows your, and Scott's, instructions step-by-step, then Graiai, too, should have a working Compressor again.

I am using bootcamp with windows 7, and always is showing me that there is no networks, it says I don't have a driver for the adapter; therefore i keep installing it, and suddendly windows 7 doesnt recognized it.

I have a Macbook Air 13" (mid 2012), recently i installed windows 7 with my original disk and code. I downloaded all the drivers via bootcamp assitant, however everytime the machine keeps disconnecting spontaneously from the internet, and keep saying that there is not driver for the adapter.
What can i do???

I install it according boot camp instructions. My thunderbolt adapter used to work fine with windows 7, but suddenly windows 7 did not recognize the driver of the adapter, and each time i install it, happens the same.

Installing new and uninstalling old Flash Player

I installed the latest Adobe Flash Player version on my iMac. Now I keep getting an icon and window telling me to install Flash player everytime I click on my hard drive.
When I click to go ahead and install, I receive the message that a later version of Adobe Flash is already installed and that therefore this version cannot be installed.
How can I get this older version to quit popping up telling me to install it every time I click on my hard drive? I put it in the trash, but it comes back again and again when I click on my hard drive icon on the desktop!

When you click on your hard drive? Opening the Mac HD uses Finder. Flash Player doesn't even factor into that.
Are you sure you aren't seeing it every time you open Safari?

Installing PE8 and uninstalling PE7

I have a PC running Vista-64 bit and PE7. Everything works fine, and I'm planning on installing PE8 as soon as I get it. I want to install PE8, then use it a while, then if I am comfortable with it, un-install PE7.
My question is, will installing 8, waiting a while, then UNINSTALLING 7 cause me problems? Will un-installing PE7 after PE8 is already installed potentially cause me to lose some files PE8 needs?
I see an entry in my uninstall folder for Photoshop elements 7.0, Premiere elements 7.0 and Premiere elements templates 7.0. If I install PE8 then un-install all the pe7 stuff at a later date, will it somehow remove some files PE8 might need, like templates or anything?

I am also just a user of Adobe products, with no inside info. All of observations are purely anecdotal, but they come from decades of using Adobe programs, some from before they were actually Adobe products.
Over this time, with many versions of the major Adobe stable, I have only encountered one install/uninstall problem, and have only read on one other.
The first, the personal one, was the installation of PrE 4, after I had the full CS2 Production Studio suite installed on the same machine. In that case, the installation of PrE 4 killed all programs in the Production Studio, PS, AI, Acrobat Pro, AE, Bridge and Encore. This was a known issue to Adobe. When I became aware of the issue, a search turned up the appropriate Adobe KB Article. It instructed the user to just do a Repair Install of the programs in the Production Studio suite. Obviously, Adobe had not anticipated that one might have the Production Studio (probably the same for stand-alone versions in that suite, but I cannot verify that), and then subsequently install the lower-level program, PrE 4. Enough had encountered this situation, as Adobe had that KB Article, so twenty minutes of Repair Install, and all was working again. Quick and smooth, but would have scared me, had I not had that KB Article.
The next was with PrPro CS3 and CS4. In that case, if a user had CS3, and subsequently installed CS4, only to later remove CS3, files necessary for CS4 would be uninstalled too. Again, Adobe became aware of this behavior and issued a KB Article on this issue. Again, a Repair Install of CS4 took care of the missing files. I did not encounter this problem personally, so can only add it from Adobe’s instructions in that KB Article, and from second-hand reports of others.
Over the decades, I have had up to four versions of PS on one machine. One version was to do one particular job for one particular client. With PS 5 Adobe changed some things with Spot Color, and how it was handled. This client had a client and a printer, that needed things done in the way that PS 4 did Spot Color. There is still probably an article on the Internet on how I handled this issue. I had PS 5, because I had not gotten around to removing it. I had PS 6 installed, as that was then the version that I was most familiar with, and PS 7, as it was the newest version, and I was still learning its interface changes. I always kept the previous version of PS on my machines, for those times that a client would need something immediately. Though I’d be learning the newer version and becoming familiar with its changes, if I was under the pressure of a looming deadline, I wanted my "old friend," that I knew intimately and could use quickly without even thinking.
In short time, I had removed PS 5 and PS 6, and only had PS 4 and PS 7 functioning. No issues. However, I would be remiss if I did not point out that these were all older Adobe programs, and were before things like Activation. Programs were far more simple in those days.
Similar happened with PageMaker 4.5 and PM 6. I kept the older version, as I had many Projects in it, and knew it. I had the newer version to learn, and explore the added power. Same for Illustrator. Once I had 3 versions of AI installed, until I became comfortable enough with the newer, to uninstall the older ones. Same for all of the Macromedia (now Adobe) programs. Though outside the Adobe camp, it was the same for what is now Corel Painter. I had 3 versions installed, as I needed the way that version 3 did things, appreciated things in version 4 and knew it, and was learning version 5, but was not yet comfortable enough with it to rely on it for rush jobs. Finally, version 4 came off of the machine, and I replaced version 5 with 6, but still kept the older version 3, because of the way it handled certain things, and as there was a change in the way that Brushes were handled, I needed some of my Brushes that would only work in the now much older version 3. No issues with having multiple versions, and then uninstalling those, when the time came.
Now, looking at Adobe’s NLE programs, there is another compelling reason to retain an older version. Let’s take PrPro 2.0 as an example. The .PRPROJ files from version 2 will Open in PrPro CS3, but with a conversion. PrPro CS3 Project files will NOT Open in PrPro 2. Same for PrPro CS4. Adobe is good at offering forward compatibility, though it is not perfect. There is almost never ANY backward compatibility. If one has Projects in an earlier version, they MIGHT Open in the later version, but prevailing wisdom is to finish all Projects in the version, in which they were started. That is foolproof, where forward compatibility with Projects can work, and should work, there are never any guarantees.
With regards to this forward compatibility, I have Opened Projects done in Pr 6.5 (Mac) in CS2 (PC), with no issues. I have Opened Pr 6.5 (PC) in CS3 (PC) to allow Mac users to Open these on their Mac’s. Since CS2 was a PC-only version, Mac users were hosed, with earlier PC version Projects. They HAD to be Opened in CS3 (PC), and Saved from CS3, to allow a Mac to Open these. Kind of an odd workflow, but necessary when a Mac user encountered these older PC Projects, and I was able to help many get these onto their Mac’s.
PrE is very similar to PrPro, and I still recommend that one finish a Project started in an older version, and not try to utilize the forward compatibility, though it usually works fine. Keeping those Projects in their native version is failsafe - they always work. Often, this does require having multiple versions of PrE installed.
Since we are talking of PrE 8 and PrE 7, I will freely admit that I have no direct experience with either, so I do not know how well PrE 8 handles PrE 7 Projects. Based on general experiences, they should Open fine, and I’d guess that one could NOT go backward from that point on.
I also have no experience with uninstalling an older version of PrE, after a newer one has been installed. Still, with my experience with Adobe products, it would seem very likely that one would have no issues. If they did, the Repair Install of the remaining newer version should do fine.
Anecdotal yes, but based on decades of working with Adobe products.

Installing Bootcamp and running Windows properly

Title explain itself, just got my Mac a few days ago and it is running smooth as ****. I transferred all my old desktop's music, some movies, and installed key softwares/freewares. I also updated anything that needed to be updated (safari, itunes, firefox, quicktime, etc...)
So now the only thing I am missing is Windows. I do play counter-strike 1.6 often and as good Mac is, it is still missing Steam/Valve. I have downloaded Bootcamp 2.1 yesterday and I am planning to borrow a Windows XP disc in a few days. My question is; I need a step-by-step procedure on how to install the Windows XP disc and Bootcamp to ensure that my Mac will run smoothly and bug free.
*Any suggestions and step-by-step procedure will be gladly appreciated!!!*

I can't open, reinstall or uninstall my itunes

I downloaded iTunes for the 64 bit model a month ago, and it was working fine. But last week, I couldn't open it anymore.
I've tried to reinstall and uninstall it but a page always pops up that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes64.msi' in the box below."
And I click okay to the use source, but it says "The path cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes64.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes."
I have the file, but it's not the "complete" version of it and I can't get the complete version of it... What should I do? Any helpful comments or suggestions are appreciated

When attempting to upgrade the latest Apple Quicktime/iTunes on
Windows7 x64, I experienced the same issues that other people were having: several errors, the upgrade failed, and the existing installation is broken. The issue appears to be the permissions on the keys by the previous version were incorrectly set and are now not accessible. By restoring the permissions on the keys, you'll be able to uninstall the old version and install the new version.
Here's how:
Open the Control Panel and go to Programs and Features. It could take a few minutes for the list to complete populating. When the list is complete, uninstall everything Apple, including iTunes, Bonjour, and Quicktime.
Some will uninstall ok, but some of the components will error out with a message saying that it
"Could not open the key:
UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\(SubKey Name). Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
Right click Start and open Windows Explorer.
Make sure that you can see all files. On the Menu Bar, select
Tools, then Folder Options. Go to the View tab. Under Hidden Files and Folders, make sure that "Show hidden files, folders, or drives" is selected. Also, UNselect "Hide protected operating system files". Click OK. You'll get a warning about displaying the protected files. Select "Yes" and OK on the Folder Options.
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32
Find Regedt32, right click, and open as an administrator.
In the left pane, go to the top of the registry, and highlight
Computer.
Search for the offending key. Go Edit, then Find, put in the key name: "DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8".
Several of the subkeys under this key have no permissions set for them. When you click on them, you will get an error saying "Error Opening Key", "(the key name) cannot be opened."..."Details: Access is denied." Click OK.
In the left pane, right click on the parent key,
"DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8" and select Permissions.
Click Advanced.
Go to the Owner tab.
Click on Administrators, check the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" box, and click on Apply.
Go back to the Permissions tab. Check the "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this objects" box, and click on Apply.
You'll get a Windows Security warning about replacing all the
permissions. Select Yes, then OK, and OK again to close the
Permissions window.
You've now reset the permissions that should allow you uninstall the rest of the old components and install the new one.
Make sure that you install the x64 bit version of iTunes/Quicktime.

Multimedia Audio Controller not working..... have installed updates and still not workin

Can someone help me with my multimedia audio controller? I've initially installed the updates from the support page and after reboot the Xi-Fi driver is listed. After installed the console update programme for Xi-Fi extreme music the driver is gone and I get a "Multimedia Audio Controller" instead with a error message.
No matter how many times i try reinstalling and uninstalling it doesn't work.

hi guys i'm currently new to mac and really need help!
I would like to install Windows XP on my mac. Many people advised me to install it through Vmware Fusion instead of using Boot Camp. Is it better to install through vmware?
If it is better, don't you still need to make windows partition through boot camp so that vmware can run from it?
also, if i wanna uninstall windows xp from my mac...
could someone provide me with a step-by-step guide on how to install and uninstall windows xp from my mac through vmware fusion please?

If you install Windows through Boot Camp, you'll have to restart your computer in order to use Windows. If you install Windows using VMFusion, you do not need to restart the computer.
Also, you do not need to partition the hard drive if you use VMFusion. VMFusion will store the Windows installation in a large file on your hard drive.
