Install Second OS

The computer has Win7 and I was trying to add win8 in another hard drive, so I installed the new hard drive, inserted the cd, and reboot from that CD, but after copying the files, it restarted while the monitor went to sleep, and after searching for the solution, I found that the computer changing the screen resolution and the DVI connection is not compatible, therefore, I connect the integrated video card to the monitor through VGA port since the main video card doesn't have VGA port, so I re-done the OS installation, but after the first reboot, it goes to win7 in the main hard drive, and if I choose to reboot from the CD, it gives me the installation first screen, so from the Bios, I changed the boot order to boot from the new hard drive to force the computer continuing the installation, but it booted to a black screen with blinking cursor in the top left, and now I am thinking to do the following:
1. disconnect the main hard, and keep only the new hard drive.
2. hopefully, after installing the new OS, I would disconnect the new hard drive and reconnect the old one (only to be sure that the old hard drive letter stay as C).
3. then reconnect the new hard drive, and the computer will detect both OS and would ask me for which one to start with.
So, is this plan is good, I don't want to miss up my old OS.
Thanks in advance,

I would take steps to verify the install is actually doing what you wish.  First verify that the original hard drive still works as intended without the the extra hard drive attached.  Then disconnect that drive and attach the new hard drive.  Try the Windows 8 install again with only the new hard drive attached.  If anything weird happens it will not effect the Windows 7 install.  I suspect the strange happenings are because drivers need to be installed and Windows 8 cannot find them or does not provide a reduced function driver until the proper one can be installed.

It is not clear to me what your issue is with not being able to sign in to your Adobe account to find the serial number.  You should still be able to sign in and find your serial number if you registered the software.
If your first PC is a Windows machine you might be able to extract the serial number from it using the Belarc Advisor

    Hi,
You need two cables, one is a sata cable:
    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/30305659/706331346/StarTech-com-6in-SATA-to-Right-Angle-SATA-Serial-AT...
This cable is only for data and connects the hdd to the SATA connector on the motherboard.
The other cable is for power:
    http://www.itpartsdirect.com/startech-15-24cm-4-pin-molex-to-sata-power-cable-adaptor.html
This connects the hdd to the PSU.
You can also buy a combo cable like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00064GBT4/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550951989&ref=asc_df_B00064GBT4
All you have to do now is to connect the hdd and that's it. Make sure that the primary drive with the operating system is connected to the primary SATA connector (I think there are numbers 1, 2, 3..)

  • Installed second drive but os cant see it

installed second drive- WD 750GB 7500BPKT but OS doesnt see it contacted WD and these have no built in drives, they sent me to OS for support, but as it was OEM, they sent me for support here. help please. Thanks

    Hi,
You probably need to format the new HDD - try the following.
Hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and let the drives load up.  Right click on your new HDD and select Format to start the Wizard.  Windows 7 will assign a Volume Label so if your happy with this, just leave the default one.  File system is normally NTFS.  Allocation Unit Size should be left as the default value.  Select the option to perform a Quick Format if it is not already selected.  Leave any other settings as default and click Ok and Ok again to start the process.
When this has completed, your new HDD should now appear when you look under Computer.

  • Installing second oracle on same host

    Hi All,
We already have one Netweaver Installed with oracle as a database. Now want to install IDES server with independent Oracle Database on windows.
Can any one guide me in installing second Oracle.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sharib

    Hi Sharib,
Just make the different envoirnment as per the <SID>.
    For Example.
    SID = ABC
    Users:
    oraabc
    abcadm
    SAPServiceABC
    Instance Directory =D:\usr\sap\ABC
    ORACLE_HOME=D:\oracle\ABC\102_64
    SAPDATAHOME=D:\oracle\ABC\sapdata1, D:\oracle\ABC\sapdata<n>
All other directories will be under D:\oracle\ABC
set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID in oraabc users environment settings
    SID = XYZ
    Users:
    oraxyz
    xyzadm
    SAPServiceXYZ
    Instance Directory =D:\usr\sap\XYZ
    ORACLE_HOME=D:\oracle\XYZ\102_64
    SAPDATAHOME=D:\oracle\XYZ\sapdata1, D:\oracle\XYZ\sapdata<n>
All other directories will be under D:\oracle\XYZ
set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID in oraxyz users environment settings.
In short make the same Directory structure and User environment with different SID.
You can also keep the second instance on another drive, for example E:
Its depend on available partitions and their free space.

  • Installing second Exchange server 2010 with all roles (CAS, HT and MB) in the same domain?!

    Dear all,
first of all thanks for reading this topic :-)
In our enviroment, we have a Exchange 2010 server (Version: 14.01.0438.000), whitch is installed with all server roles (CAS, HT and MB) on one server(OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise). This exchange server sends all external mails to a smarthost (Redddox).
We are using Outlook Anywhere, Active Sync and OWA.
Now, we need to migrate this Exchange server to another one, because we think, that the server´s OS is corrupt and also, there are wrong licenses installed. The "new" server will have the same OS Version and Exchange Version (2010).
Currently I´m a little afraid, to install a new one - because I think when I will install the CAS and HT role, something will happen in my productive enviroment (Autodiscover, SMTP Connectors, Cerficates a.s.o.).
To install the mailbox role, I think this will not affect anything.
Can you help me a little bit in what to take care of? Do I need to preconfigure something, before I will install the second exchange? What about the version / service pack of Exchange to install? Must it be the same as installed on the first one?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Jennie

    Hi Jennie,
Below are the steps if you are not planning to upgrade.
    1) Install new Exchange2010-SP3 Server all roles Please check
    this
    2) Install the certificate in the new server by requesting a duplicate from the 3rdparty CA. Or export from the existing Exchange 2010 and import to the new one. Please check
    this
    3) Set your autodoscover, OAB, ECP, OWA URLs same as the current Exchange. Below artciles will help you to do that.
For OAB, Autodiscover, EWS please check steps 5,6,7in this
For setting OWA and ECP URLs please check
    this.
    4) Move few mailboxes as a test and check. If no errors move the rest.
    5) Move your OAB generation server to the new server. Please check
    this
    6) Move you public folder contents to the new server you have. Please check
    this
    7) Configure your firerwall to receive emails on the new server and other services like EWS, OWA, ActiveSync.
    8)
Add the new server as the source server and in the current send connector and remove the old server from the send connector.
Shutdown the server for a couple of days and monitor. So you will know if you missed something.
Uninstall Exchange2010 from the add remove programs.
    Thanks, MAS

  • Moving pictures & catalog to newly installed second hard drive

    Hi!
I just checked John's file (http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos_1) on moving files. My friend, a real non-technical guy, had a second drive installed on his computer. Up to now he only had one physical drive with C: and D: logical drives. All his pictures are sitting on the D: drive and there is nothing else on that drive.
I am supporting him remotely in Vancouver, BC from Austria (with logmein.com).
The new drive, 500 GB, is formatted and the chap installing it gave it the drive letter J:
    My questions:
    1) I change the drive letter D: to say X:, change the new drive's letter to D: and then do a disk copy from from X: to D: will this work?
    2) Have my friend do a normal backup to his external USB drive and then do a restore with "Restore to original folder location" to the new J: drive and he uses from now on J: drive. Check that the Preferences are set correctly.
    3) Simply move with Organizer all files to the new J: drive, leaving the catalog on the D: drive.
    4) Any other good ideas? My friend has about 9,000 pictures on the file, probably quite a few disconnected ones.
Thanks and have a nice day!
    Alexander
(Waiting for October 9th and PSE 8 as announced on Amazon. Surely John you soon will have another long list of items to add to your index! GGGGG!)

    Alexander,
Using Display > Folder Location view to move the photo folders is the most straightforward way of moving the photos to a new drive, as described in the FAQ you referenced:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos
The question remains of what to do with the catalog folder:
    1. Is it on the C drive (where it usually resides) or the D drive?
    2. If it's on the C drive, there's no harm in leaving it there -- it uses relatively little space.
    3. If it's on the D drive, and your friend doesn't mind leaving it there, then leave it there.
    4. If your friend really wants to move it from the D drive (e.g. so he can free up that drive and use some partitioning tool to merge D back into C), then he'll need to move the catalog folder:
    a. If he's on PSE 7, he can safely move the catalog folder using File > Catalog > Move.
    b. If he's on PSE 6 and he doesn't have any projects (e.g. slideshows) or files archived to DVD/CD, he can safely move the catalog folder using File > Catalog > Move.
    c. Otherwise, he'll have to use the backup/restore method (rather than Display > Folder Location view) to get the catalog folder moved along with the photos to the J drive.

  • Can I install second hard drive on PC?

The present Sata hard drive has 640 GB capacity.
If there is a spare port for a second hard drive, is there a maximum capcity limit?
And would any make of Sata 3.5" hard drive be suitable? I would be grateful for any advice.

  • Problems installing second hard drive and second DVD recorder

I have tried about every combination of tricks to install a second hard drive.  I want to add a 250GB, WD IDE hard drive to my 3000J 115 7387A32 on the IDE channel.  I have set up the bios then added the drive and the reverse but cannot get computer to boot in either case.  It locks on the first screen where is says hit Enter to.... Enter makes the text go away, but nothing after. I am trying to install it as a single drive on the secondary IDE channel.
I know the HD is good as I removed it from another computer.  It does have Win XP on it.  I will format it using Vista IF I can get it installed.
Basically, I am having the same problems within stalling the second DVD, which is SATA.

Your initial hard drive should be jumpered as Master. When you install a second hard drive it must be jumpered Slave. There should be a diagram on the case of the HD showing the jumper locations.

    Hi,
Your PC has a hard drive cage that will accomodate two drives.  This HP How-to document starting at Removing a Drive a hard drive will show you the process for removing the hard drive cage.
If you still want to use the Expansion Bay then you will need a 5.25" to 3.5" adapter bracket. NewEgg.com would carry such a bracket.  You will also need a SATA data cable.  This HP How-to article will give you an idea on how to use the Expansion Bay for a 5.25" device.  Check up by the existing optical drinve for a spare SATA power connector.  If one is not available then you will need to use a SATA power splitter.

I see my new Satellite A200-1BW has two hard drive bays,on looking into the second bay I cannot see how a second drive can be fitted as the plug in socket appears to be missing.
What parts do i need to fit to fit a second drive as they are held in stock by my local computer outlet and are quite cheap, can anybody advise me on part numbers etc of the bits I need.
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi,
there are many different models of your machine on the market and some of them have a second drive, some of them not. If you bought a model with one drive then you will only be able to install ONE drive because your model was only intended to have one drive.
And even if you solder a connector to it or attach it in any other way then you dont know if the bios supports the second drive.
My suggestion on it: obtain a USB-HDD and store your data on that drive. Would be making more sense then spending a lot of time on investigation to find out that your mainboard is not able to handle a second drive.
    Cheers

  • Unable to boot from DVD to install second OS in dual-boot system

After much soul-searching and budget managing I bought a new iMac (my first all-new Mac since 1995!) to replace my beloved MDD, and of course it comes with Lion.  This turned out to be a small problem because there are certain apps that I can't do without that (it turns out) will never be updated to work with anything later than Snow Leopard.
To get past this I installed a second partition and intended to install an older version of the OS so I could boot into that and use the old software.  Everything went fine until I actually tried to start from the (borrowed) install DVD.  All I get is the three long tones that tell me that RAM has failed the POST, and I have to eject the disk while doing a hard restart to get back into Lion.  I've tried several other install disks as well, in versions of the OS back to 10.3 - some do the same thing, others are old enough to be PPC-only.  And I can't just boot from the disks while in Lion because the installer versions don't match.
Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong here?

You need to track down a Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD which came with that model of Mac or create a Mac OS X 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 system elsewhere and clone it to that partition.

My new macpro comes with one dvd drive, I'd like to install a second one on the empty slot below. My question is what kind of drive do I need to purchase? IDE, SATA, etc? I assume I need to remove the front tray cover of the drive?

Not meaning to sound antagonizing, but the words "most likely" can cause a lot of trouble when the answer is wrong. The optical drives inside the Mac Pro use PATA, not SATA.
You shouldn't have to remove that cover.
Assumption again. Optical drives with small lips will clear, but it's been my experience that most lips have to be removed.
