Install Solaris10 on HP DL185-G5 ??

We just got 2 HP DL185-G5 boxes to replace 2 ancient Dell Sol8 boxes. I've installed Solaris 10 on several DL385 boxes in the past with essentially no problems. This one is killing me.
The DL185 has the HP P400/256 RAID controller that requires the 'driver update' to be installed before any disks can be recognized. The DL385 boxes have the same controller, DU install worked as expected on those. On the 185, the install script reports "No driver found" when attempting the driver update step and the install will never complete. I know the hardware is good, a stock RHEL5.3 installed just fine. I tried 3 versions of Solaris 10 and 3 versions of the 'cpqary3' driver - still 'no driver found'
I even unpacked the sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd.iso, installed the cpqary3 driver into it, repacked, and tried the install. Still not found. HP does not have any ideas so far. Ran a prtconf and it's picking up the expected PCI id. This combination is in the HP 'supported' matrix.
Has anyone been able to install any Sol10 on an HP DL185-G5 ?? I'm wondering what would happen if I stuck the DL185 disk into the DL385, ran a fresh install, then stuck the disk back to the 185 ??
thanks,
Don M.

what is the firmware release level on the HP hardware. might want to run the firmware maintenance cd and update the drivers and try to install the OS again. i'm able to install solaris 10 (11/06) and later with few issues.
there is an HP document on how to install solaris10 on hp hardware.
Sun Solaris 10
Deployment Guide for HP ProLiant Servers
Part number: 455522-001
after paging through the document i dont see DL-185 on the supported hardware list.
thanks

  • Install Solaris10 on HP ProLiant ML370 G6, "No Disk" error

    Hello,
I want to install Solaris10 on HP ProLiant ML370 G6 servers which are on the Hardware Compatible List( HCL). However, I always encounter "No disk" issue and installation fails. The disks are HP SAS disks.
I searched online and knew that CPQAry3 driver must to be installed first. I did but the "No disk" error still happens later.
I am wondering what else I should do?
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
You have to apply the ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade before.

  • How can i install solaris10 on my pc with winxp

    hello
i m completely new to this os. can anyone let me know "how can i install solaris10 with winxp on second partion. is it as simple as installing two windows together. how much space will solaris require(i have only 40gb hard disk ).

Fdisk your hard disk and create two partitions
Install Windows as normal onto the first partition
Install Solaris onto the second - Solaris will install a bootloader which will allow you to select which OS to boot if you carry out the installs in that order.

  • Install Solaris10 over network.

I have one sinfire v245 box which is in remote location (DR site). I want to install Solari10-u5 on it.
I can't travel to remote site due to some restriction.
Presently Solaris10-U1 is installed in the box.
I have telnet/SSH access to Solaris-OS, and i have SSH access to it's "Advanced Lights Out Manager".
There is no one in remote location who can insert Solaris10-u5 media.
In this situation, is there anyway that i can freshly install Solaris10-u5 on it ?

Ok. I learned the way how to install Solaris over network.
I have created a install server on another solaris box, the client and this box are in the same network.
I am trying to install the client, i am getting this error on the client continuously . Any idea how to solve this ?

  • Install Solaris10 on Netra X1

I'm a Windows admin who has been assigned a project of installing Solaris10 on a Netra X1, which has no CD/DVD drive. The install was initially going to be done by an expert remotely, and to that end I ordered and set up a serial to ethernet converter and attached it to the LOM port. This was ostensibly going to allow for remote installation of Solaris10.
I no longer have access to the expert and so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get this done myself. Using the serial->ethernet converter I can remotely access both the >lom and >ok prompts which presumably gives me the ability to reboot and somehow install off of a Solaris install stored somewhere else. I'm just not sure where to go from here and what the easiest method of installing the new OS would be. I've read a suggestion elsewhere to use a liveUSB method instead, and if this is easier I can live with the extra driving time to get to the server. Would this be the easiest method, or is there a reasonable way to do it remotely given that I can access the lom prompt? Is the liveUSB method a common way to do this for servers that do not have optical drives?

I'm planning on driving down to the server and simply trying a few things to see if anything looks like its going to work. Is there any way to determine ahead of time if it can be booted from USB, and if not, how would I go about attempting to boot it from a USB drive once I'm there? Something like 'boot /dev/sdb' from the ok prompt in lom? I'm going to take an old IDE CDROM there as well, how would I get it to boot from that?
At this point its looking like this thing may become a fancy paperweight. I don't understand the design decision to not at least put a CD/DVD ROM in it.

  • I use jumpstart to install solaris10 automatically, but in sysidcfg,i..

I use jumpstart to install solaris10 automatically, but in sysidcfg,i can't find any option with NFS version 4 default domain.
anything i can do is to input enter when jumpstart process ask me.
Do you need to override the system's default NFS version 4 domain
    name (yes/no) ? [no] :
    how to omit this step.

Here's is the jumpstart finish scipt I use with our JASS jumpstart environment. It works similar to mAbrante's technique.
Just change the "mydomain.net" to match your domain.
    #!/bin/sh
    #ident "@(#)enable-nfs4-domain.fin 1.00 09/30/05 Steve Mitchell"
    # Solaris 10 includes NFS version 4 which needs some new information supplied to it.
    # Without the code below, after a jumpstart install you would get a message that requires input.
    # This system is configured with NFS version 4, which uses a domain
    # name that is automatically derived from the system's name services.
    # The derived domain name is sufficient for most configurations. In a
    # few cases, mounts that cross different domains might cause files to
    # be owned by "nobody" due to the lack of a common domain name.
    # Do you need to override the system's default NFS version 4 domain
    # name (yes/no) ? [no] :
logMessage "Enabling NFS version 4 specifics for Solaris 10"

  • Install Solaris10 on a Blade1000 from dvd fails

    Hi,
I want to install Solaris10 from DVD on a Blade1000.
After resetting the Blade1000 it founs the DvD.
Boot cdrom will start but does not found a bootable file.
another Sun was installed correctly with this DvD.
    Any hints what to do?

    Replace the DVD drive.
Early versions of the 390-0025 SCSI optical drive had problems with DVD media.
There is a firmware patch for the drive, but it sounds like your computer isn't functional enough (at the moment) to let you apply that patch.
The early drives would work fine with CD media, and sometimes read DVD data disks, but could not boot from DVD.

  • Need suggestions for install Solaris10 on IBM R52

    Hi all,
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on my IBM R52 laptop, most of the hardwares looks working, except sound card and wireless network card(ethernet card working).
I am just a newer to Solaris, so it would be really appreciated if you could give me some suggestion about it, or where can I find those kind information.
    Thank u in advanced.
    Cheers,
    Teng

I concur with the others on going straight to Leopard. Then resolve any issues before installing non-Apple applications (or older Apple ones, for that matter).
However, make sure ANY applications are Leopard-compatible before you install them.
And note that the iLife '08 installer is for a 30-day trial installation (fully functional for those 30 days) after which it needs to be purchased.

  • Solaris10 install - unable to run cmd /usr/sbin/sysidput

I have an Ultra10 at home with Solaris9 on it now. Attempting to install Solaris10 from CDs. Boots up fine on first CD, then tries to configure hme0 and chokes. Gives me errors "Warning: hme0: fault detected in device; service degraded" and "Warning: hme0: No response from Ethernet network: link down --cable problem?"
I'm using a Linksys cable modem BEFCMU10 and Linksys cable router WRT54GS. Noticed it started doing this when I changed from old BEFSR41 router to new wireless router.
Well, I ignore this error and move on. Install process gathers info such as dhcp (yes, my router set up to do this), time zone and so forth. It processes my inputs and then gives me the error "unable to run cmd /usr/sbin/sysidput".
Anyone have either of these problems and resolve them successfully?
    Thanks, Ron

How do I enable this at install time from the CDs?Afraid the answer is likely burn a custom boot CD
after judicious tampering with the GA media-set - or -
read up on custom JumpStart installations (neither
are exactly for the faint hearted, both are probably
    overkill).
Wondering if this is causing the other error "unable
to run cmd /usr/sbin/sysidput"?Could be a combination of a bug in the installer
triggered by primary netif down + DHCP network
    parameter configuration selected.
Suggestion would be (as next poster suggests)
rebuild with node detached from LAN, and, with
static, dummy network parameters as workaround,
then post-install setup etc/system to work around
    your switch's carrier-sense bogosity as per Sol9
as well as re-enable for DHCP.
It's probably also worth filing this as a bug if you
have a SunService contract; it wouldn't be the
first time one of OpenPROM, the install-time
mini-root, suninstall, or dhcpagent have shipped
    with inbuilt "just don't do's".
IOTW - work around the problem, bug it with Sun
if it's reproducable, then get on with life.

  • Solaris 10 fails to install on Compaq ML370

    Hello All,
I would like to install Solaris10 on Compaq ProLiant ML370. I've configured the machine to expect UNIX - Solaris. I see on Compaq's web that Solaris 2.6, 2.7 and 8 are supported.
Unfortunatelly, when I boot from installation DVD the setup crashes with this error:
    PANIC [CPU0] /thread=fec1e1a0: BAD TRAP:TYPE=0 (+DE DIVIDE ERROR).
I am downloading Solaris 10 (11/06) to give it a try... I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you for your time.
    DanielD

    Hello All,
This issue has been addressed by setting OS to 'other' (not Solaris).
I've used smartstart cd and removed all server's configuration. Then, I've set the server for Solaris installation (The Solaris 2.6 up to 8 are supported). The bad trap error did show up again. However, when I changed the OS to 'other', I was able to start the installation process successfully.
    Thank you,
    Daniel

  • Solaris 10 install problem "No Solaris Web Start Ready products were found"

    I am trying to install Solaris10 U5 in SunFire 240 .
I booted the box through CD-ROM and chosen NFS to install the OS.
when it asks to specify the NFS Server details, after entering my NFS Server/share details, i am getting a warning message, and installation won't go.
"No Solaris Web Start Ready products were found"
Why i am getting this error ?
    What is the solution ?

Check the HCL to see if your SCSI controller is supported

If not, LSI may have a driver at

  • Add driver on Solaris10, problems with SCSI/DAT

    Hi,
I am a newbie on solaris. But i have to do some tests. Therefore my questions:
I installed solaris10 on a celsius pc(x86). I build in a scsi pci card. I connected a dat drive. Now I find no hardware device for this dat. With the command cfgadm i can only see the usb devices. So it is necessary to add the driver for this scsi card?Where i can do this?
    Thanks for your help!!!

Of cause you need a driver for the scsi pci card.
Assuming Solaris already includes the correct driver for the scsi
pci card: run "devfsadm -v" to let the system probe for new hardware
and create device nodes for the new detected hardware.
Without a driver for the scsi adapter the hardware cannot be used.
Check the vendor's web site; a few offer Solaris drivers that you
must install before you can use the scsi hardware.

  • Booting Solaris10 x86

I've just installed Solaris10 x86 in my PC.
I have two disks: No. 1 with WIN_XP and a lot of data.
No.2 with only Solaris10 just installed but I can't boot to it. When I reboot the PC it goes directly to WIN_XP. I suppose that it may be because when I installed Solaris, I deselected the 1st disk to avoid that the program installation would damage or erase anything on it. (Got a notice about needing to enter the BIOS because of it, but I don't know what to do there).
The installation went quite OK; not the slightest problem.
( I used a Personalized Installation, not the Predetermined one)
The question is: If I reinstall Solaris 10 on the same 2nd disk and I don't deselect the 1st disk, will the program leave alone my WIN_XP and all the data in this disk allowing me to make a choice when rebooting the PC?

    Sir,
I have installed both operating systems on one disk and have Solaris set as the primary operating system.
In this way Solaris rightfully recognises Windows as an existing operating system and shows it to you in its boot-menu. You can make your choice which operating system you want to boot from at boot-time.
I haven't tried it (yet) but I suspect that, when you configure your Solaris disk as the primary boot disk, Windows will be recognised as an optional disk to boot from
