Install Spring IDE 2.X plugin with Flex Builder 3
I'm new to Flex environment, but what I'm trying to do here is to install Spring IDE 2x with flex builder 3 using update plug in manager....
After attempted many times, I gave up because I got a bunch of errors. Please help me any instructions would be really appreciated.
Since Flex built on top eclip, so here what I followed:
http://springide.org/project/wiki/SpringideInstall
Help Help Help please.....
Thanks,
Dave,
He levancho.
Thank you for your help. I almost got it with your advice.
Putting it all together it is the following for me:
1) create an Adobe ID at https://cocomo.acrobat.com/
2) unzip CocomoSDK_0.91 and place that directory under your
eclipse_install_dir/plugins
3) create a new Flex Project
4) add the
eclipse_install_dir/plugins/cocomo../lib/player10/afcs.swc to Flex
Build Path / Library path in the project properties
5) Change Flex Compiler / Require Flash Player version to
10.0.0 in the project properties
6) Add the attached code as a test application ...
I found the following tutorial very helpful:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/cocomo_gettingstarted.html
Notice that I changed some namespaces since the given code
did not exactly work for me.
Thank you, Noam

Building Flex Application with Flex Builder installed in a remote server
Building Flex Application with Flex Builder installed in a remote server and different developers accessing it via VNC etc
I have a requirement as below..........this is mainly to look for a solution where we can see a environment.............where we can stop developer to install flex builder locally, download/check out code locally and work locally ..............Please have a look ........
1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code say 1st Remote Server
2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server via VNC etc log in to their workspace
5. Each developer check out code in their workspace by connecting to 1st Remote Server.
6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ? I heard Cloud Computing is something that world is looking to represent this kind of solution .............not sure thoughHi
The concept of cloud computing is not even very clear to me
I think this is what I understood about it ...........from this link http://communication.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing.htm
It says
"Instead of installing a suite of software for each computer, you'd only have to load one application. That application would allow workers to log into a Web-based service which hosts all the programs the user would need for his or her job. Remote machines owned by another company would run everything from e-mail to word processing to complex data analysis programs. It's called cloud computing, and it could change the entire computer industry"
"There's a good chance you've already used some form of cloud computing. If you have an e-mail account with a Web-based e-mail service like Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or Gmail, then you've had some experience with cloud computing. Instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail account remotely"
My issue is not with the license. The solution that I am looking for is
1. Don't want the developer to download the source code in any fashion either checked out or anything else in the local machine
2. Want the developer to work directly on the server
3. Looking for a solution where each developer is not required to install Flex Builder locally and the developer can use Flex Builder that is installed on the server and in his workspace and create/modify build on the server itself
Hope I could make you understand this time ................

Use VSS or similar tool with Flex Builder 3 Profesional
Hi
I want to use Visual Sorcesafe or other similar tool with
Flex Builder 3. so that we can work in a team on single project.
Can anyone please give some ideas, that how can i do this.
Thanks & Regards
Ajay DekavadiyaAlmost anyone using this list is probably going to be using
CVS or SVN with Flex rather than Visual SourceSafe, as they are
free. You can get plugins for Flex Builder/Eclipse that integrate
CVS or SVN source code control into your project. Many projects use
SVN now, and on Windows TortoiseSVN is frequently used as a context
menu based way of managing changes in your source code repository.
You can do some googling for 'eclipse svn plugin', or I
believe CVS is built-in by default, which you would see under
Window->Preferences->Team->CVS in eclipse/FB. -
"advanced data grid" with flex builder 3.0
I'm getting watermark as "Flex Data Visualization
Trial" when tried to use advances data grid with flex builder 3.0. There are some links floating on the internet where it's suggested that the license key should be provided in the flex-config.xml to avoid this issue. I would like to know if this componenet is stable with flex builder 3.0 and is it ok to use this in production environment?Someone from Adobe might be able to answer more definitely
but it's probably just not considered compatible with a modified
Eclipse (at least, the installer). It may just be the installer
blowing up when it shouldn't. I think Adobe doesn't want to support
install configurations that they don't have setup and tested. I had
a similar issue once and solved it by doing the following... not
sure if it'll work, and it's more of a last resort:
Setup a regular eclipse install - install the plugin there.
Somehow, you'll have to keep track of all the files it adds, either
using timestamps or some compare software. It should be a bunch of
files and/or folders in the '/plugins' directory, and possibly a
few others in '/configuration', maybe '/features'. Take all the new
folders and any jar files etc, and drop them into the same folders
in your special Eclipse version. Hopefully when you start it up
you'll get the Flex functions...
Of course, you could end up hosing your entire "NWDS"
(whatever this is) install. So you probably want to test it out
first! -
How can I create an executable with Flex Builder 3?
I'm working with Flex Builder 3 right now and I've run my
head into a brick wall. Here's the situation:
I'm creating a standalone application (runs in its own
window, not in a web page) and I want to run it on a computer that
does not have Flex Builder 3 installed. Help files and web searches
haven't directed me to the right answer, so I was hoping that
someone on this forum could help. Anyone know how to create a .exe
file or something else that can be run outside of Flex Builder?
Thanks a lot for any help!quote:

Thanks Rob,
This may be what I'm looking for, but I don't know enough
about the difference. I guess I should have pointed out that I'm a
complete Flex Novice!
Anyway, with Flex Builder, I created an MXML Application. I
went through all my various options again in Flex Builder and found
that under the project menu, I could export a release build in what
appears to be the format you mentioned. I managed to create a .air
file, but it is not a recognized file type on my computer. I tried
double clicking it and the built-in windows services couldn't even
find a possible way to run it. Am I missing some important step?

Tutorial for creating a J2EE project with "Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 " ?
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a Flex environment with:
Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 stand alone
WTP (from eclipse update manager)
LCDS 2.5 (with JRun)
JBoss 4.2.2GA
At this moment I successful installed everything (but not set up). I added WTP at Flex Builder3 (with the eclipse update manager). I copied the two flex-tomcat files in jboss.
Then in Flex Builder 3 I created a new Flex Project. In the wizard first window, I selected J2EE, Livecycle and WTP. Then in the next window I need to configurate the J2EE server.
I couldn't find any information/tutorial for this window? Is there a tutorial for this?
This window ask me:
Target Runtime: I created a new one for JBoss 4.2.2 (during this process flex builder asked me to add a project but actually I'm creating this project so I hadn't any project to add (??)).
ContextRoot: name of the project I'm creating (default). Is it good?
Content Folder: the default is "WebContent". Is it good?
Flex War File: What is that? Where do I find it?
Thanks a lot,
JeromeThe settings you mention all sound fine, but the I believe the Flex War file may be what you referred to as the flex-tomcat files (specifically the one should be called flex.war from the install folder).
You don't need to deploy the flex.war file to JBoss manually, when you create a project, you just select the file in the wizard and it is extracted and used as a template for the new project. In fact, it may cause a port conflict with your project if you do deploy manually it (unless you tweak some of the config files), so it's probably worth removing it from the deploy folder if you did put it there. The other file, flex-admin.war, can stay without causing issue.
The closest to a tutorial that I am aware of is if you search "New Flex Project" in the help system, it talks about what each of the options should be when creating LCDS projects. -
My applications built with Flex Builder 2 and 3 do not start in new versions of Flash Player and/or new browsers when run remotely. I have not been able to test all combinations of FP and browser versions but there is no problem with applications built with Flash Builder 4. Does anyone have info on this?
Hi Dimitar,
Did you close all the browsers (and applications which use
Flash Player) when you install Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 or Flash
Player? You can try manually installing it from <FB install
location>/player/ directory. Here're some
installation/unintallation instructions of Flash Player:

Building Flex application with Flex Builder in a Remote Server - Cloud Computing
Hey Guys
I have a query or its confusion probably
I was just thinking if this kind of solution is existing or possible with say cloud computing or anything else?
This is what we all probably do for building our flex application?
1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
2. Developer check out the code in their system locally by some Configuration tool like Perforce, CVS etc
3. Developer Install Flex Builder IDE locally and open the IDE and then create.build locally and then on testing check in the code in repository
All this is fine but we have some problem here
a. We have to get all the source code checked out/downloaded in some local machine
b. We have to install Flex Builder in each every developer machine with license.
A possible modification in the above can be as follows
1. Don't download/check out the source code locally in each machine
2. Create a mapped network drive of the Remote Repository and then work directly with the mapped network drive
3. Install Flex Builder locally
4. Start Flex Builder create a Flex Project with source code in the mapped network drive
But this has some potential problem as now the building of the flex application directly work with the mapped network drive. This is very slow especially when we Keep the "Build Automatically" Check box to true
My question is that can we have a solution like this ?
1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server log in to their workspace
5. Each developer check out code by connecting to 1st Remote Server. This code which is checked out now goes in their workspace in the 2nd Remote Server
6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
I think this is something that I heard cloud computing can do ? Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ?

Problems with Flex builder upgrade
Hi, I'm trying to upgrade my copy of Flex Builder to
2.0.1 so that I can install the Apollo plugin, but when I run the
upgrade the wizard says it cannot find the correct folder
apparently it does not contain the plugin and features folders, but
I know it does I can see them. I have installed Flex builder on the
D drive of my PC, I'm not sure if that is the cause of the problem.
I also have a copy of Eclipse 3.2 with the Flex Builder plugin
installed, which does have the Apollo plugin working, but I'd like
to have the full Flex builder working so I can use the RDS plugins
to view my databases, which doesn't work in Eclipse 3.2.
So what is the best place to have Flex Builder installed so I
can get Cfeclipse, RDS and Apollo plugins to work?
Thanks
StephenIs Flex Builder running? In Beta 3 we have a problem in that
we were opening the Help in an external browser, which stays open
when you stop Flex Builder (which, in turn, stops the Tomcat
instance that runs the Help).
For final, we'll rever to using the internal browser window
by default, which closes when you close Flex Builder.

Video Display Problems with Flex Builder 2
I am currently trying out the Flex Builder 30-day trial and
have been having problems running the software.
System info:
FB 2.0.1
Dell Latittude D820 running WinXP
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M Video Card
When I first installed it, my display turned to garbage and I
had to reboot my machine to get it to a usable state. Someone
suggested changing my display properties and see if it helped. When
I tried 768X1024 with 8-bit color it worked. Once I installed it, I
changed them back to 1920X1200 32-bit. Everything seemed to work
fine until I started getting into some more complicated tutorials.
My display crashed and looked similar to what I saw before. I
updated to the latest NVIDIA driver from Dell. No help. I then
tried the Windows Troubleshooting. When I turned my hardware
acceleration to None, it started working again. There are some
weird display issues with menu buttons and I can't launch my Nvdia
software.
Is there a better solution to this? Has anyone had this
problem? I'm not so sure I'll purchase the software with this many
problems.
Thanks,

I am Currently restoring my Power Book after a significant meltdown.
Thanks for posting I too saw the shearing effect but shrugged it off thinking oh well I'll just reboot!
If you are seeing this Buy a fire wire drive NOW and Back-up.
I suspect the Video update changed a low level feature in the power management routines and this resulted in my Power book cooking itself.
I've got a 12mth old Hitachi 7200 PATA drive in my Power Book after the Apple Drive cooked itself soem tim back and I have now got to back-up and restore my whole system. Luckiliy I have plenty of Big fast firewire drives around so I'm imaging the corrupt drive and going to run the Hitachi tool on it via a WINDOZE Thinkpad. Then a combination of clean install of 10.5.x and a migration assisted restore should do it.
I'm really not very happy though! My Time machine image did not restore and the disk repair did not work. I have a corrupted asl.DB ( the log file for Apple System Logs) and the mac won't boot from its internal drive.
I'll post the resolution here as it happens I'm at hour Disaster + 24 so I'm really cranky!
I suggest If you have a G4 Power Book you resist the temptation to install the video update.

Getting started with Flex Builder, BlazeDS and Eclipse
Hi,
I'm a java developer looking at RIA for the first time. I'm really excited about BlazeDS and object remoting, but I can't get a working dev environment together. I'm assuming I should use Flex Builder for the client code, Eclipse Europa for the java webapp code, and deploy from both IDEs into the BlazeDS-equipped turnkey-Tomcat. I haven't found a tutorial explaining how to deploy a new webapp with this setup.
The turnkey-Tomcat sample app works fine. Trouble starts when I try to create a new project in Flex Builder. I don't understand the 'debug' deployment that Flex Builder does. Why are there 2 versions of my app, the regular and the debug versions? What is exactly the project structure that I'm supposed to have in Tomcat?
The specific error I encounter when trying to deploy a new Flex project is this:
[MessagingError message='Destination 'productService' either does not exist or the destination has no channels defined (and the application does not define any default channels.)']
I do have a default channel configured for my environment in services-config:
And I do have a valid destination configured in remoting-config (I'm mostly interested in object remoting):
test.ProductService
Here's the client code:
What am I doing wrong? Where can I get help on these specific topics? Also, does anyone have an Ant build file that would automate this sort of deployment?
Thanks!Hi Peter,<br />I don't have problems passing JavaBeans to Flex. For collections, I used DataGrid, it displayed my collection seamlessly, except I don't get column headers, just a column index number. For receiving a single JavaBean, I had a little more trouble, until I tried to display it with a DataGrid: it displayed a single row that represented my data, with each java property name used as a column header, and object attributes were displayed as 'object'. These 2 experiences led me to these conclusions:<br />- for the collection, Flex converted each element into an ordered list of attributes<br />- for the single bean, Flex converted it into a hierarchy of Maps of attributes<br /><br />I didn't create a Flex value object. Flex is doing it automatically,very much like in JavaScript/JSON: dynamic objects.<br /><br />Here's the remote object markup:<br /><br /><!-- We target the remote Java object through BlazeDS gateway: --><br /> <mx:RemoteObject id="myRemoteObject" destination="productService" <br /> fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString, 'Error');"><br /> <mx:method name="getProductsCount" result="setProductsCount(event)"><br /> <mx:arguments><br /> <arg1>{productSC}</arg1><br /> </mx:arguments><br /> </mx:method><br /> <mx:method name="getProducts"><br /> <!-- search params are wrapped in a model, ProductSC (will be converted to a Map on <br /> the server side by BlazeDS): --><br /> <mx:arguments><br /> <arg1>{productSC}</arg1><br /> <!-- This works because we declared these to be Bindable: --><br /> <arg2>{pager.pageSize}</arg2><br /> <arg3>{pager.currentPage}</arg3><br /> </mx:arguments><br /> </mx:method><br /> <mx:method name="getProduct" result="goToView()"><br /> <!--<mx:method name="getProduct">--><br /> <mx:arguments><br /> <arg1>{selectedRecordId}</arg1><br /> </mx:arguments><br /> </mx:method><br /> </mx:RemoteObject><br /><br />And here's the dataGrid that displays the bean collection:<br /><br /><mx:DataGrid id="myDataGrid" <br /> dataProvider="{myRemoteObject.getProducts.lastResult}" <br /> change="selectRecord();"<br /> width="100%" height="100%" ><br /> </mx:DataGrid><br /><br />Let me know how it goes, I'd be glad to assist if I can.<br />Miguel
