Install srss in a zone

Is there any way to do it, even if it's a hack? Need to do a multi-customer desktop virtualisation proof of concept. I'm sure this featureset is on some roadmap somewhere but I can't find any information about it.
thx

What else, do i need to set in SGD and AD server side ?
Thanks in advance.

  • Installing SRSS 4.2 in a Solaris Zone ... why is it not supported

We would like to install SRSS 4.2 in a Solaris ... but the release notes says it is not supported. Any Ideas about that ?

Nothing is installed in the global zone at OeNB anymore, so what can we expect here ?

SRS is not just an application.
    SRS includes Kernel Drivers.
You must install the Kerneldrivers in the Kernel in the Global zone.

  • Veritas Netbackup Client Installed on Solaris 10 Zone Unable to Work

    Hi
I am having problems with Veritas Netbackup client which had been installed on a Solaris 10 zone only. We are using Veritas Netbackup server which is installed on a Windows 2000 server and the NBU server is unable to add the new client for backup.
The way I installed the NBU client was using the manual method where I installed directly on the zone. The zone I've created is a full root zone and the installation seems to be successful.
Somehow the NBU server just can't see the new client. Do I need to install the client in the global zone to make it work? Is there any checks I can do to make sure I have installed the client correctly and that the services are running in the solaris 10 zone side? Any kind of help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Xavier

    Hi mcbrune1
I've check on the services in the client and all 4 services were up and running. Than I realized that this client was hardened a few weeks back. So I checked on the /etc/hosts.allow file and added an entry to allow the Master server to communicate using bpcd.
Now the Master server is able to see the client and everything seems to be working. Thanks for your help.
    Cheers

  • How to install Oracle 10g on zone

    Hi,
    I'm new in zone technology.
I have a problem with installing Oracle 10g R2 on previously created zone.
I am not able to run Oracle installer.
Is it possible to install Oracle 10g using OUI GUI?
I have exported DISPLAY variable but I there is not available xhost + command.
Normal installing Oracle 10g on Solaris I use xhost + to run installer.
But in zone this command is not available.
Could you please tell me the solution to install Oracle 10g on zone?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

xhost appears not to work if you are zlogin.
What you may want to try is creating a Unix user inside the zone and then ssh into the zone as if it was a regular machine.

  • Application pkg install in non Global zone

I have got another virtual instance up on solaris box, i am trying to install application pkg which writes to
    /usr
which is mounted as read only.
is it possible to create policy to write under that folder
e.g. /usr/writable where u can add/change stuff in non global zone
    thanks

You'll need to build a "whole root" zone to do that. You currently have a "sparse root" zone.
There are two types of non-global zone root file system models: sparse and whole root. The sparse root zone model optimizes the sharing of objects. The whole root zone model provides the maximum configurability. These concepts are discussed in Chapter 18, Planning and Configuring Non-Global Zones (Tasks).

  • ASMCA error during 11.2 Grid install on Solaris 10 zone

    Hello,
I'm installing 11.2 grid infrastructure in a solaris 10 sparse root zone (SPARC). The install ran fine, but the final step tried to create and configure the ASM instance. This failed with the errors below. It looks like it is trying to add the +ASM instance to the cluster resources, but fails for some reason. It looks like something to do with unable to read/write a file or it does not exist, but it doesn't say what the file/location is. I would have raised an SR but metalink is inaccessible to us at the moment (keeps saying server error, and yes I am logging into the new flash site).

  • Installing & booting non-global zones

    Hi all,
I am having problems with installing and booting a non-global zones. My configurations are as follows :
    zonepath: /export/small-zone
    autoboot: true
    pool:
    inherit-pkg-dir:
    dir: /lib
    inherit-pkg-dir:
    dir: /platform
    inherit-pkg-dir:
    dir: /sbin
    inherit-pkg-dir:
    dir: /usr
    net:
    address: 192.168.1.101
    physical: hme0
There is no problems when I try to verify the zone. However, upon installing, I get the following errors :
<SUNWexplu SUNWexplo SUNWesr SUNWtftpr SUNWdtdmr SUNWmdu SUNWbsr .....(and many other pachages ) >
Despite all this, I am able to boot the new non-global zone. However when I do `zlogin -C -e\@ small-zone', I only get the message "[Connected to zone 'small-zone' console]" .I don't get the install sequence as expected. I am consequently unable to get the console login.
Can anyone please help me ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi swa.. it's Lucky... thanks for your time...
the out put of "df -hk /export/small-zone" is :
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 9.6G 9.4G 118M 99% /
the out put of "zoneadm list -cv" is :
    ID NAME STATUS PATH
    0 global running /
    6 small-zone running /export/small-zone
Now, I know it seems like its working, but it's not quite working properly. I tried a "zlogin -C small-zone" before I ever booted up. It just hangs with the message "[Connected to zone 'small-zone' console]"
Then upon booting up, I get :
    "[NOTICE : zone booting up]

It seems that the initial configuration where you set up the username passwords has been totally bi-passed due to a failure. I have no idea why this is so.... Any help would be much appreciated.
Once again, thats for your help.

  • Oracle 10g install is not working on Global zone

We installed Solaris 10 (below) in a T2000 using the same standards we have for many other hosts. After the installation was finished, three zones were exported from a M5000 class machine and imported into this T2000. From inside the zones we can call the Oracle10g installer and the graphical screen is presented. When executing the installed from the Global zone, we can see a java process running, using 100% of a thread, but no graphical interface is presented at all. Checking truss, we see a lot of pollsys being called. Any ideas?

This pretty much says it all:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.What version of Vista?
What version of the agent? ... 10g is not a version number it is a marketing label
Did you check to see if the agent is compatible with your operating system?
My recommendation would be to get a real operating system: Either Oracle Linux or XP.

  • Partial Install of base pkgs upon creating Solaris 10 zone

    Greetings,
I have this weird situation when attempting to create a zone. Hoping I can get a bit of insight as to a resolution here.

Now I can finish the the install and boot the zone just fine, but those packages are listed as partially installed, thusly when they are a prereq for any application, the application install fails with dependancy issues. If I try to install those pkgs, the dependancy loop gets very deep.
Plus I know that this isnt the expected results of my command chain above.

  • Can't install 121118-12 on global zone

Hi, after our first round of patching, we're starting again. So, I've had to upgrade my external LPS to latest patches to get it to work at all. It is now on 119788-09 and 121118-12. The patchsvr has been reconfigured to point to getupdates1.sun.com without the trailing "solaris/".
So, I then tried to get my internal LPS working...proxy isn't running. smpatch pointed to the external (DMZ) LPS without a trailing "solaris/". Has patch revisions 119788-07 and 121118-08. Note, when I use the trailing "solaris/" then I get the "no patches" message. Without that, I now get a list of 40 patches (tho' I'm expecting about 190-odd as my external LPS is at the same patch levels otherwise and smpatch which points direct to Sun comes back with 196 patches).
Just to confirm, my current.zip (/var/sadm/spool/cache/Database/http....***...current.zip) gives me a patchlist.delimited file that is 9419 lines long. That seems about right.
So I thought - gosh! I really hope that this isn't going to be a 2-step patch process (currently running kernel rev 118833-24 and have seen a few warnings about going up to the mid-30s) so maybe I have to install the latest UC client patch for this to see that it needs more patches.
    But trying to run "smpatch add -i 121118-12" barfs and finishes with the following message;
Patch 121118-12 failed to install due to a failure produced by pkgadd.
WARNING: patchadd returned <5> for global zone

The first time it says much like below, but to check the log file which says the bit above. Any subsequent attempts give up on telling you to look at the logfile because you should've already and just tell you this;

No patches to install.Funnily enough, I am running on my global zone, but patchadd and smpatch just can't seem to tell. Has there been a major update to patchadd that I've missed or is there some other reason that I can't install this patch? Do I really need to remove it all before patching again? If so, how is that affected by 119788 which also patches SUNWppror?
    Thanks for any help,
    Sally.

    Yes, there are relevant packages in that file;

Also, when I was testing applying patches on zones, I would've run "patchadd -G" for some patches to see what the difference is, but I wouldn't have suspected that this would change the action of the patch forever more.
Or have these packages gotten in there another way.
    Within one of my local zones, there are no SUNW packages in the /var/sadm/install/gz-only-packages file and yet the zone cannot remove the patch;
    myzone # patchrm 121118-12

myzone #but I guess that is because it is checking on the global zone at that stage. On that point, does a local zone know the name of the server its global zone is on? Can this be determined without being on the global zone?
    Thanks,
    Sally.

  • After installing 137137-09 patch OK in global zone, bad in non global zone

    Hi all,
scratching my head with this one.
Installed 137137-09 fine on Sun Fire V210. Machine has one non global zone running a proxy server (nothing very exciting there!). non global zone has a local filesystem attached, but don't think this is the issue (on my test V210 I created the same sort of filesystem and was unable to replicate the problem :( ).
So 137137-09 is fine in the global zone (I had the non global zone halted when patch installed) it is also installed in the non global zone (ie, when zone boots it says it's at rev 137137-09 via uname) in the patch log in the non global zone I get this:
    PKG=SUNWust2.v
    Original package not installed.
pkgadd: ERROR: ERROR: unable to get zone brand: zonecfg_get_brand: No such zone configured
This appears to be an attempt to install the same architecture and

will attempt to overwrite this package.

pkgadd: ERROR: checkinstall script did not complete successfully
    Dryrun complete.
No changes were made to the system.
I'm not sure if the branding error is causing the checkinstall postpatch script error or if they are not related. There doesn't seem to be any obvious permissions problems that I can find. I have checked that all the pkg and patch patches are up to date on the system. Searching on the brand error gives me a link to a problem with 127127-11, but that was installed on the system before the local zone was created and all the other seemingly appropriate patches (eg: 119254) are all up to date or at a higher revision than recommended.
I see the same problem on a M5000 which has two non global zones on it.
Both machines had the Solaris 10 50/08 update bundle applied when it came out,a nd have had recommended patch sets applied at regular intervals since.
This issue only came to light when trying the latest bundles with 138888-01/02 in it, and those fail to install on the global zones because the non global zone install dies claiming 137137-09 is not installed (which is plainly wrong).
I've tried to recreate this on a test server but unfortunately everything works as it should, even though the test server has a similar history in terms of patches and original setup to the others.
I'm planning to try to detatch the non global zone and try an attach -u to see if it will update the patches properly, but I'm not holding out much hope on that one (I need to wait for a mainteiance window when I can take the zone down in a couple of days).
    Any ideas?

Well, I am following up to my own post it seems I have determined what is causing the problem, or at least situations where the problem can be reproduced which I have been able to do on my test system.
It seems that if the zone container's zonepath is in /usr (eg: /usr/zones, /usr/local/zones, or some other path under /usr) the patchadd of 137137-09 will fail with the log similar to posted above, and this will stop further kernel patches (eg: 138888-02) being added.
The test system had everything patched to current and searching the web I can't find any other instances of this being an issue, but I have reproduced this problem on my test machine (which worked OK because it's test zones were in a filesystem mounted as /zones). When I used zoneadd -z <zonename> move to a zone in /usr/local and applied 137137-09 the same problem came up.
Not sure what is causing this issue.. I imagine it might have to do with some sort of confusion with the patch utilities and the read-only loopback filesystems in the sparse root zone but I can't bs sure.
Maybe someone at sun will see this and figure out what the deal is :)
When I moved my test zone back to /zones the patch applied perfectly so it's definitely having it in /usr or /usr/local (I tried both locations, even though they are seperate ufs filesystems on my test server).
Oh I am running DiskSuite to mirror filesystems on my V210's which may or may not have anything to do with it.
Hope this helps someone in the future at least!
