Install Standard Ed. One

I''ve downloaded the 32 bit windows evaluation version of 10g in order to try out Standard Ed. One (whith the title of the download indicated was in the package). On beginning the install, there are options for Enterprise, Standard and Personal, but not Std ed one - is the install for this on the download? What did I do wrong?

It is OK, when you download from this site, you download the full featured CD. It includes all different RDBMS version, Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition and Standard Edition One. Features between SE and SE1 are the same. The difference between standard edition and standard edition One is that this last does not include the RAC, Clusterware and Automatic Workload Management.
So, installing a regular SE and not installing RAC + ... is considered a SE1, which can be supported by your license agreement.
You may check the Oracle Database Licensing Information document for further details.

  • How to install Standard Edition One?

I downloaded 10g (10.2.0.1) for Linux x86 and it says it contains Enterprise, Standard and Standard Edition One inside. Once I started installation I had option to install Enterprise or Standard, no option for Standard Edition One.
    Did I miss something?

Standard Edition One IS the STandard Edition with an added moral obligation to not out it on a machine with more than 2 sockets.
    Just use the SE install

  • Installing Standard Edition One

    Hi,
I was asked to test SE1 in order to see if it fits certain requirement. In order to do so I choose one of my RH 4.0 boxes and downloaded the database for the Linux 64 bits. Then I began installing.
However, when I was asked to choose the Installation Type I only had 3 options:
Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition and Personalize.
    My questions:
1- Where are the Standard Edition One and the Personal Edition options?
2- Is it possible that the Standard Edition One is the same installation as the Standard Edition and the only difference is certain hardware constraint (as seen @ the license documentation)?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Best regards.

Unfortunately, patches can cause that to change.
    See Metalink Note:219233.1
You're correct, they can do that, but on the more
recent versions, if you're really careful in
following the patch instructions they typically
    don't.
Though in all fairness 10.2.0.1 => 10.2.0.2 is a more recent version (see bug 5100038).
This sort of thing repeatedly happens sadly with Oracle and SE. Oh and the fix noted in 219233.1 doesn't apply to windows either.
So, to the OP, there isn't any really nice way of determining that you are running SE or SE1, you are looking for an absence of the word Enterprise - and that might be wrong because of a bug. I don't believe Express Edition identifies itself nicely either, but you can tell you are running that because it installs properly using appropriate installation media (windows installer or an rpm).

  • Can NOT install Standard ONE on a 2 quad-core processor machine (licensing)

This is from Oracle's licensing (July 2009):
    ===================================
“When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name, a processor is counted equivalent to a socket. However, in the case of multi-chip modules, each chip in the multi-chip module is counted as one occupied socket.”
This is also from Oracle's licensing (July 2009):
    =====================================
“Oracle Database Standard Edition can only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 4 sockets. Oracle Standard Edition One may only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 2 sockets.”
Now, this is what it seems to be:
    ===========================
1 quad-core AMD/Intel Xeon chip counts as 4x0.5=2 sockets (reached the maximum capacity limit in the licensing terms) by simply using 1 (single) quad-core CPU box.
and that's it - you can NOT install Standard Edition ONE on a 2 quad-core CPU Linux box :(((((
    For a AMD/Intel multi-core Linux boxes
    ===============================
it can be a single quad-core CPU box (4x0.5=2 sockets -- but, paying twice the processor license - because it is now 2 sockets) or
it can be a 2 dual-core CPU (2X2x0.5=2 sockets -- but, paying twice the processor license) or
it can be a single dual-core CPU box (2x0.5=1 -- paying only a single processor license)
I think it is time for Oracle to revisit the licensing terms for Standard ONE edition and change it to simple socket count (don't count the cores). It is getting more expensive to use Oracle Standard ONE.

Everybody should also know - and OPN folks confirmed this morning - that an Oracle Sales person does not have the "legal" authority to overwrite what is written in OLSA. Sales can not rewrite the OLSA. However, Sales can request changes or addendums to the specific contract, which are reviewed by Oracle Legal and approved by Sales senior management (right up to Charles and Larry if needed).
That said, very few Oracle employees are allowed to discuss any aspect of licensing terms. The official first point of contact is Sales, and they may only be the carrier pigeon of missives from the authority.
When someone buys Oracle, OLSA is the only legally binding document. Everybody should keep the copy of the OLSA which is in effect at the time of their purchase, given that OLSA can be modified at a later date from the actual purchase. That happens to be true of any license or sales agreement, from Oracle or not. Also note that if you purchase support, renewals may affect the original OLSA.
And it's one of the reasons old timers in these forums (such as Dan and myself) will prefix nearly any license discussion in the forums with "check with sales" and suffix it with "and anything you hear on the internet is probably useless in a court of law when you get audited".
and after all that - thanks for digging into the details and posting them.
(With the warning to any others using the information that the facts need to be reconfirmed for each individual case and date. A judge usually frowns on a defense of "It happened to a friend of a friend of mine" or "I read it on the internet")

By the way - what you write is a change of policy. At one time, a box that could support 4 CPU but only had 2 CPU installed would not qualify for SE1. Good news indeed.

  • Downgrade enterprise edition to Standard Edition One

I downloaded database 11g for solaris intending to install standard edition one.
During the install I did not see any options for the edition, and installed enterprise edition. I then deinstalled enterprise edition options but the database banner is still indicating it is enterprise edition. Is it possible to downgrade to standard edition one ? Where should I have selected the edition during the install ?

The Standard Edition One install is assumed to be the same as the Standard Edition install since it contains the same features. You are on your honour to not enable the RAC capability or to install it on a machine capable of more than 2 CPU sockets. You should have seen the option to install Standard Edition.

  • Standard Edition ONE and Advanced Installation

    Hello,
I would like to perform an installation of the Oracle DB 11g Standard Edition ONE by using the Advanced installation. However, the Standard Edition ONE option is not available in the Advanced installation.
Can I use the Standard Edition option?
    How can I proceed?
    Thanks!

I have installed SE1 many times by clicking the SE option on the installer page. There is no SE1 option. From the point of view of the database installer SE1 and SE are identical. The software components are the same. The limitation in the licence agreement is that SE1 is restricted to a single machine with maximum capacity 2 sockets (2 n-core processors) -but- SE can be installed as a multple node RAC cluster with a maximum total capacity of 4 sockets (4 n-core processors). For example, see Oracle® Database Licensing Information 11g Release 1 (11.1) Part Number B28287-08
I AGAIN referenced that document. And again I do not see anything in the Licensing document that says you INSTALL SE1 by selecting SE. I see a lot of references to the fearture comparison. So I ASSUME that the installation is by selecting SE and using moral control over how it is deployed.
Could you please copy/paste the paragraph that turns it from assumption to fact ..

  • Is OAS Standard Edition One license is enough to use OC4J Standalone?

    Hi,
I would like to purchase a license for OAS SE One, but the latest version is 10.1.2.
OC4J 10.1.3.4 suits better for my application. Can I use it with OAS SE One license?
    Bart

BI SE one is restricted to one RDBMS data source.
2.2.1 Oracle BI Standard Edition One usage
You can install Oracle BI Standard Edition One on a machine with up to two CPUs, and it can serve from five to 50 users. Oracle Warehouse Builder can pull data from any source, but the target database is limited to the included Oracle Database. Oracle BI and Oracle BI Publisher data sources are limited to the included Oracle Database, exactly one other database, and as many flat file data sources (for example, spreadsheets) as you require.

  • 10 Standard Edition One

    Hi,
Where do I get this from?
The 10.2.0.1 download page only includes Standard and Enterprise Editions.
The 11g version has all products selectable from the dropdown on the install screen.
The 10g version does not have Standard Edition One listed.

I see no difference on the download page:
    Oracle Database 11g Release 1
Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition
    Oracle Database 10g Release 2
Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition
Additionally SE,SE1 and EE are licence options, not separate software packages. In all cases you downlaod the SAME software.

  • BI 11G Standard Edition One: can the iOS client work with it?

Is it possible to run the iOS (iPhone/iPad) BI client with BI 11G Standard Edition ONE? Anyone tried?
    Thanks a lot in advance

nonsense - if you have only 2 sockets (include the multi-chip factor when calculating the number of sockets -- see my posting) and not using the rest of the sockets and your motherboard allows it - it should be no problem in licensing. The problem arises if your socket count goes more than 2 by installing another CPU -- then you need to upgrade to the proper Oracle license.
remember, if this is a Linux box, and you installed a single (1) dual-core CPU (AMD or Intel Xeon for example), then the socket count is 1x2x0.5=1 socket (you are paying single processor license for SE1), if you install another dual-core CPU, then your socket count becomes 2 (which is the max # of sockets for SE1) and you pay 2 x processor license. if you install another dual-core CPU, then you have 3 sockets and you need SE license (3 x processor license for SE for the same box).
    note:
    ===============
apparently, when it comes to SE1 and SE licensing, the MCM (Multi-Chip-Module) definition becomes extremely important. If it is a Power 5 cpu, it is definitely an MCM, for AMD Opteron Barcelona CPU - it is not MCM. For Xeon, yes it uses MCM but the word is that when some folks called their Oracle Sales rep, they were told it is not MCM (even Intel said, it utilized MCM technology for that particular Xeon CPU). I guess it depends what your Sales rep tells you or what your research reveals for the CPU you are planning to use. Here is a related URL, for those who interested:
    http://www.pythian.com/news/1009/recent-changes-to-oracle-se-licensing-rules-higher-price
I wish there was a clear MCM definition in Oracle's OLSA (such as a table similar -- but more detailed -- to the newly updated core count table).
    hope this proves helpful.

  • BI Standard Edition One

    HI,
I installed and then had to uninstall BI Standard Edition One on my machine.
Now when I am trying to install in again it is giving me a message that there is an existing installation and I should uninstall it.
WHen I go to the installer I cannot uninstall again and all the Oracle folders are there for the BISEOne still as they were before the uninstall.
I checked the registry and there is no information on the BISEOne, and there is no installed software when I try to uninstall.
What do I do to get the fresh installation done again?
    Mohan

    I did still no luck.
I also checked the registry and there is no entry for the BISEOne in that either.
