Install Tiger designed for Intel on older machine?

I just bought a new mac mini with the intel chip. I was hoping to install the OS version 10.4.5 that came with it on my ibook (now with 10.3.9) so that they're both working off of the same OS. When I attempted to install it, I got a weird setup page, so I ejected the disk out of fear. Fortunately, my computer seems unharmed. I'd still like to install the updated OS if I can - Is what I'd like to do possible?

I'll add to the chorus, my buddy tried to upgrade his G4 450 10.2.8 with the Powerbook Panther install disc of a friend of ours'. All he got was a kernel panic ridden install. Couldn't reboot it period. I told him not to do it, that the disc were probably specific to the PB. He now has retail Tiger installed on a second internal drive that I convinced him to buy since he was still running OS 9 on the other one. Made him get more ram too. BUT if you've got any pcs laying around you might wanna have a look here http://osx86project.org/.

  • Fail to install solaris 8 for intel

hello. i downloaded three files and made a CD for each one. but during the installing on a Dell PowerEdge 6450
(4 x Pentium III 550)which has two AIC 7899 ultra160/m SCSI adapters and a Dell PERC RAID controller (i note they are not included in the hardware compatibility list of solaris 8 for
intel), the install process stopped when it was "I2O Nexus:
initializing IO processor 0" and didn't go any further. when i attempt to intall it on another machine(2 x PIII 1000) which has a AIC 7892 ultra160/m SCSI adapter, the process
stopped saying "no disks that meet the criteria in the solaris installer documentation found" after solaris web start began to run. before this, it has reported resource conflict of PNP0C01
and ISY0050. and the installing stopped when "using RPC bootparams for network configuration information" on a PIII 800 PC. what's wrong with my installing. is it due to the incompatibility of hardware or something else?how to resolve it if possible? help is in need very much.besides, what does
DCA mean?sorry, i'm a newbie in this field.
    thanks
    xoing

    Hi,
Problem with PERC RAID controller card.
You try to install the driver for AIC 7899 and Dell PERC RAID controller card. In dell computers, they have dell PERC RAID controller driver for Solaris 7 version. They don't have the driver for solaris 8 version.
You can download driver for SCSI AIC 7899 from this URL:
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASC-39160&filekey=u160_slrs_v121_dd.img.Z
Then you check with your local dell support provider for PERC RAID controller driver for solaris 7 and solaris 8.
    Thanks.
    revert back.

  • Unable to install Solaris 10 for intel on IDE hard disk?

I was trying to install solaris on an 80 GB IDE HDD with
AMD 32 bit ,XP2000 cpu, 1024 MB RAM using a DVD rom
drive with the first/second solaris os install CD.
BUT after 2nd CD , i got the message 'Short Read/Read Error'
after the GRUB boot loader screen.
Repeated after formatting disk using Red Hat linux (linux installed successfully on same disk/machine without problems) but even then
when i retried installing solaris 10, it failed with same error.
Same set of CDs installed successfully on intel xeon server with
1 GB RAM, 32 GB SCSI HDD.
Does solaris install on IDE hard disks on intel 32 bit PCs?
    pl help/

Sometimes it's possible to use drivers for older Solaris x86 systems
to install the latest Solaris x86 release.
    http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/family/model/2543.html?submit.y=0&submit.x=0&lang=en&cc=us
To do that, you have to modify HP's ITU floppy. For Solaris 10 x86,
rename the DU/sol_2X directory on HP's floppy to DU/sol_210 .

  • Can I install Phone designer for all user?

    Hi
I have phone designer application I install it on my PC but when I install it for anther user and give me error Unable to connected to server.
Is there any parameters needs to check on CUCM?
How many times can I install it?
    Thanks
    Kaff

You can install it as many times as you want. Ensure that either the cluster-wide parameter or the device-specific parameter is set to allow phone personalization. After that, if it works for you it will work in general; don't forget to enter the CCMCIP server address in the client.

  • Cannot install solaris 8 for intel

i boot a machine which has a AIC 7899 card using install CD,
then choose add driver using a floppy made by downloaded
ultra160 driver floppy image. the SCSI card and a hard drive
thus can be found and i make two partitions, about 1G and 5G
respectively, a swap space about 8G(my machine has 1G
RAM, 17G hard drive, PIII 1000MHz). it all seems ok. but after
it copys files to disk and prepare to reboot it reports "waning:
/temp: file system full, swap space limit exceed...............
warning:no swap space to grow stack......" then it returns to
command line and just stops there. if i reboot using init 6 the
machine cannot boot from the boot partition saying cannot find boot.bin. in addition, every time i create partitions and reboot, there will be another small active boot partition. besides, the sum of the space of two partitions and the swap space seems to be larger than the disk space. so, that's what i meet with. can someone give me a hand?
    thanks
    james

You should be using the partition utility that runs during the install. This is easiest. Make sure you have a large swap space. Usually swap space is about 2 time larger than total RAM. But in your case, you may not want it that large.
If you are using only solaris on the computer, then format the entire hard drive as a solaris drive.
Then you can split up the drive into partitions, and here is where you can decide swap disk space.
During the install, when it asks you:
say yes to all loyout file systems on disks
partition the disk in the following manner
    (just a suggestion)
    swap
    /usr
    /usr/local
    /var
    /opt
    /tmp
/export/home (The rest of the HD)
    Hope that helps,
    ~James

  • Installing Tiger 10.4 on an intel machine

    Hi,
I recently sold a copy of OSX 10.4 Tiger (the 5 license family pack version) to someone on ebay. The disc was the first incarnation of Tiger, bought on the day of release last year, and I sold the software as I now have upgraded all 3 of my machines to intel and therefore have the appropriate licences for individual machines.
The problem I have is that the person I sold the disc to, says he cannot install this disc on an intel 'mac' that he has built himself and he now wants to return the software.
I did say in my ebay description that the disc would work with intel machines-was I right in saying this? Could 10.4 be installed on a 'proper' mac and then be upgraded to 10.4.8 via the software update and everything be fine?
The only reason I am asking this is because if I accept the software back then I will be out of pocket by £10 at least-ebay fees, shipping & paypal fees.
    Regards,
    Richard

I did say in my ebay description that the disc would work with
intel machines-was I right in saying this?
You were not right. The Tiger retail install package is for PPC Macs only.
There is no reason for Apple to provide a Tiger Universal retail install package which is required to install Tiger on an Intel or PPC Mac since all Intel Macs ship with a Tiger Intel version.
When Leopard is introduced next spring, the Leopard retail install package will be Universal.
The problem I have is that the person I sold the disc to, says
he cannot install this disc on an intel 'mac' that he has built himself
and he now wants to return the software.
It is not possible for someone to build an Intel Mac but it is possible for someone to build an Intel PC and it is against Apple's license agreement to install OS X on anything other than a Mac.
You should advertise your Tiger install package as a full retail install package which can be used to install Tiger on any PPC Mac that meets the minimum system requirements for Tiger.

  • Tiger and other intel machines

My question is can i install tiger on any intel machine now and if yes what would the system requirments be. if no how come, and is there anyway to do it.

    hi higod,
yes, you can: on any apple intel machine - but i guess you meant on any pc.
and with some effort even that is possible, but it is forbidden to do so.

  • RE-Install Tiger with no disc drive.

    Here's my problem:
Old MacBook 1.83 GHz with a disc drive that seems dysfunctional. It actually did not read any CDs or DVDs, and was recently replaced by a third party warranty company. When I received the computer after the warranty work, it read CDs again and allowed me to boot from the MacBook restore disc. I erased my hard drive in anticipation of reinstalling Tiger. During the verification of the install disc, it spit an error message at me saying the disc was dirty or smudged, suggested that I remove it and clean it, and then try again. I did this, and received the same message. The disc looks sparkly clean with no scratches or fingerprints. I then chose to ignore the warning and install anyway. Install eventually failed and asked that I restart the process.
The warranty repair noted that there was a mounting bracket that was broken and it was not covered. THe note explained that the tech was going to try and complete a makeshift repair that allowed the drive to work. I suspect that there is something wrong SOMEWHERE (who knows where) related to the optical drive that is preventing me from successfully reading the disc and installing the software. On another note, the drive will NOT start up from a retail Tiger DVD either. (For reference, I was initially using the 2 discs that shipped with the MacBook for the reinstall.) I called a friend, who is quite knowledgeable on this and recommended I turn the Macbook into a firewire drive (T key at startup) and use a different Mac to read the disc and install the software directly to the now empty MacBook. That did not work either. Once I got to the install screen and allowed to select a volume to install Tiger to, it would not allow me to use the MacBook saying it could not install because it was unable to startup using Mac OS X.
So I'm stuck with a white MacBook brick, unless I can find a way to read the disc properly, or install from some external source. Are there any ways anyone knows I could get OS X onto the MacBook?? Thanks.
I'm usually really good with this kind of stuff, but I'm stumped and excruciatingly frustrated.

I have a very similar problem: white 2006 MacBook with a bad optical drive, had to replace internal hard drive, cannot figure out how to use machine-specific system restore discs to install the OS on the internal. I've been puzzling over this, and here's what I think I've discovered:
    Problems being:
    * Can't use retail Tiger disc, because it will not install on an Intel MacBook. (From what I've read, there are no standalone retail Tiger discs for Intel machines.)
    * Installing via FireWire target mode from on other machines wouldn't work, because other models won't boot from these machine-specific Software Restore discs.
    * Can't put disk images of the install discs on an external drive and install from there (at least I don't think that will work).
Potential solutions left, as far as I can tell:
    * Create bootable partition on external hard drive. Using Disk Utility on another machine, "Restore" the installation disks to this external HD partition. Boot MacBook from this ext. HD partition, and then install from those images onto internal HD.
    * Buy Leopard retail disc, boot other machine with it, and using FW target mode, install on the MacBook internal HD.
    * Get an external optical drive or replacement internal drive.
In my situation, all three remaining solutions involve a purchase, which I'd like to avoid (good money after bad). But if any of them work for you, good luck!

  • Tiger DVD on a CD only machine

I'm trying to install Tiger from a DVD onto a machine with no DVD reader. I can't seem to copy it to an external hard drive. Any clues as to what I can do?
    Thanks
    --jody.

    Hi --jody!
Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you’ll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95.

What OS are you currently using?

  • How can I use the "gcc compiler and emacs editor" in Solaris 8 for Intel?

I installed Solaris 8 for Intel to my desktop computer.
After the installation, I found I couldn't use the companion software (the software CD included in the Multilinugal Media Kit for Solaris 8) - especially the emacs editor and gcc compilers.
I certainly installed the companion software to my computer. And I can identify that those softwares are
really installed to my system. In order to check out whether I installed them or not, I went to the "System Administrator" and opened the "Solaris Product Registry", in which I identified that all the files in
the companion software were succesfully installed in my computer.
However, when I open terminal or console box and tries to use those
software, the system responds that "there is no emacs or gcc."
Why I cannot use those things?
Did I install the companion software wrong?
    I really don't understand why I can't use them.
For your reference, I saw the directories "/usr/bin" and "usr/ccs/bin"
    too.
    In /usr/bin I typed
    #as
    and no such command.
    In /usr/ccs/bin
    #as
    and also no such command
was what I had as a response.
If I installed the companion software CD correctly and if they are installed somewhere in my computer,
where I can find them and how I can use those softwares?
Lastly, whenever I try to connect to my ISP via telnet mode, I see this
    message.
    "Try to connect ...
connected to ***.***.***.*** (IP address of my ISP)
    Closed by foreign hosts."
Is there any one who knows why this happens?
    Thanks for reading my question.

gcc and emacs install in /opt/sfw. You should change your path statement to include /opt/sfw/bin and should obtain the FAQ from sunfreeware.com. The FAQ answers all your questions.
I have installed gcc and gtk and am using both at this time.

  • Error Installing Biztalk Adapter for Enterprise (BT2013)

    Hi everybody,
I'm attempting to install the adapter for enterprise application, the machine is a win7-64 (phisical) and previously in this laptop had BT 2010. I guess that is something related to the previous version of BizTalk.
    The message is:
"An error occured while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user o group. This could ba a problem with tha package, or a problem connecting to a domain controller on the network"
This machine is a sandbox and the user that is running the setup is part of the administrator's group of the machine and is part of the company domain (AD), and the machine is connected to the net.
In advance, I Apreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luis Cardozo

    Hi Luis,
Have you verified that the user is member of Biztalk groups ?I think you need to add the user to biztalk group such as Biztalk Administrator ,SSO Administrator etc prior to running the setup .
Another way around is to create groups manually .
perform the following steps and run the installation again:
Create a new user called CREATOR OWNER (Type this command on the command prompt – net user "CREATOR OWNER" /add)
Create a new group called Users (Type this command on the command prompt – net localgroup Users /add)
You can find detailed document at
    link here
    Thanks

  • Myriad of problems since attempting to install Tiger

Some time ago I tried to install Tiger and got the messge the disc was damaged. I went back to Apple and they tried to install their copy and in the process my iPhoto got all fouled up. They recovered the library (somewhat) and we decided not to install Tiger until I backed up my machine. Some time later I brought my external drive in and we backed up the user and then tried to rebuild the iPhoto library. By the time I had to leave, my iPhoto was still showing white thumbnails on 30% of my library. I tried to rebuild it yesterday and like the previous time, iPhoto quite unexpectedly. See my posted question at iPhoto4 - Tried rebuilding iPhoto library twice, both time iPhoto "unexpectedly quit"
Just got back from the Apple store and their solution to the iPhoto issue agreed with Brie Fly's post of:
Move the two recent rebuild attempts from Pictures to the trash. Temporarily move your original iPhoto Library folder to the desktop. Start iPhoto and choose "Create New..." from the dialog. Quit iPhoto.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder from the desktop, and drop it inside the newly created iPhoto Library folder in Pictures (put it inside; don't replace).
Now start iPhoto again while holding the shift+option keys to try another rebuild.
The Genius folks at the Apple store suggested that I also Archive and Install to see if I have a corrupt user file. I decided to back up my user first and this is where I got....
Dragged user to desktop icon of external drive, while it was "preparing to copy" it stopped with the message:
"One or more items have special permissions and cannot be copied. Do you want to skip them?" I'd expect one of the choices to be "Yes" but curiously the two choices were "Stop" and "Replace". (symantics!) I chose "Replace" and almost immediately I got the message:
"The operation cannot be completed because the item "Installer" is locked." I then click the only button offered, "Ok was the only choice to click upon doing so the operation is ceased.
I didn't know the Installer could be locked, how it became that way nor how to unlock it!
