Install Updates Failed:Preflight Script???

Nobody answered the only archived question similar to mine. I got the following message when trying to install updates: _+None of the checked updates could be installed: run preflight script for...+_.
Has anyone else had this problem and a solution?
Thanks.

Next thing to try is...
Use Disk Utility to verify/Repair the HD, then Repair Permissions then reboot.
Use the Archive and Install feature...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Repair Permissions afterwards, reboot.
After that would be a complete Zeroing of the HD and a fresh Install.

    Hello...
I am having the exact same problem this person was having, except that I wasn't able to repair permissions. When I attempt to do this, I get this message:
The underlying task reported failure on exit.
Does this mean that I have to do an Archive and Install? In which case, would you mind walking me through that process? <:)
I really have no idea why this is occurring, as well..if you could explain that to me, I'd be very grateful.

  • EVERY start-up automatic (?) 'installing update' fails because 'The update could not be installed. ...'

EVERY start-up I have to wait while Firefox says 'installing update' and than 'The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again' while there are no other versions running!

It was due to using an old version of Adobe Air. There really should be a tighly coupled error that either updates Adobe Air for me, or links me to the update. I was only able to find the solution using intuition as a techy.
Now I can install the Muse demo.

  • SCEP Post-install update fails

    Hi,
I have SCCM 2012 R2 running in a secure environment - Internet access is tightly controlled. I'm presently replacing my SEP clients with SCEP, and my Antimalware policy is set to point to WSUS for updates.
SCEP will not update automatically during installation, however - even though it is "pointed" to WSUS, WindowsUpdate.log indicates the following:

  • Civilization V Install/Update Fails

PROBLEM: Attempts to update Civ5 via the MAS fail. A ~38MB patch file is downloaded, and the MAS reports that it has been installed. After launch, the app isn't updated at all. Returning to the MAS, Civ5 is once more offering an update. Repeat ad nauseum.
STEPS TAKEN: Verified that the problem is repeatable, and specific to Civ5... all other MAS apps download/update just fine. Deleted Civ5 from /Applications, relaunched the MAS, and attempted to reinstall. A 3GB file downloads, and the MAS reports that it has succesfully installed. In reality, it has not been installed. Restored from Time Machine backup.
Next, I checked with the developer, Aspyr. They report that the problem is on Apple's end, and we have to wait for Apple to fix it.
I checked the MAS reviews of this latest release of Civ 5, and virtually all of them are reporting the same problem. So it is not isolated to my iTunes account.

This is an ongoing issue with Aspyr as you can see from the reviews. No amount of troubleshoting that I've suggested has helped. That includes the v10.7 3 combo, deleting all App Store related cache files, using Lion Recovery to reinstall the Mac OS X, running disk repair...  ad nauseam.
What you can do is complain to Apple.

  • After installing update failed cant access itunes and reinstall didnt work

I was prompted to install the new itunes update when I accessed itunes today. (I was in the middle of accessing my music to send for a show, Im a aerial performer, magician and burlesque performer). The instal failed and now I can not open Itunes at all. I tried to install again and that failed. I keep getting "this application failed to start because MSVCR80.dill was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." followed by this message "Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes. Error 7 (windows error 126)"
What do I do? I need to access my music... I went to the website and downloaded the app again and nothing...it failed too.
What do I do? I cant afford to have lost 1000's of songs many of which I paid to have mixed and created for my performances.

I have finally found a solution!!! Yea! (It was in an obscure hard to find support article from apple only found after googling error messages, though why it wouldn't come up in an apple search is silly to me) So... you can not just uninstall Itunes because the problem lies within the support software that comes with itunes.
You must uninstall IN THIS ORDER (per Apple)
    1. Itunes
    2. Apple Software Update
    3. Apple Mobile Device Support
    4. Bonjour
    5. Apple Application Support
    6. Icloud
Then you must restart your computer (I got an error message that some files could not be opened because aspects were missing) I then downloaded the most current Itunes from the computer and the problem was gone. All files came up with the new download. Program opened with no issue.
Hope this helps the rest of you having this issue.

  • 10.4.8 Will not install (preflight script failed)

Attempting to install 10.4.8 (Power PC) and it fails at the very begining of the install. Received this message (from the log):
"Dec 18 21:25:08 MyMac-G4 : Install failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC)"
Has anyone else received this error? I've done evrything I know to get this to work (fixed permissions, maintenance scripts, etc) and it still fails upon install.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I looked at an install log for one of my OS X updates. During the install process, there was a directory created in /private/tmp and the very next line was to run a preflight script. This makes me wonder if you could be having a problem similar to ones observed many times in 10.3. There should be a /tmp which should be a logical link to /private/tmp. This link was sometimes broken and then the software update failed.
So, one thing to try is to check the integrity of your directory structure. You can do this by launching the terminal app from the utilities menu. Then, copy and issue the following two commands:
    ls -ol /tmp
ls -ol /private | grep tmp
(Note that the "l" characters are the lower case of "L", not of "I".)
Please copy the results and post back. If something does not look right, we can offer suggestions.

  • Install of Flash 10 failing - "run preflight script" - Mac OS X 10.5.6

I tried to install Flash 10  - and it asks me to close the "Dashboard Client" of Mac OS X and after I click close on the flash install window, the installation fails. A message says that the failure occurs during "run preflight script" and to contact the software developer.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes or way around it?!

Got the problem as well, a little bit frustrating, i have the problem with BOTH flash 10 and photoshop elements 3 why isn't adobe willing to help us? I think this is quite dissapointing when you take into account the software costs ±$100 I also have Mac OSX 10.5.7
    HELP?

  • Install Failed:  The following install step failed: run preflight script

I'm trying to reinstall Photoshop CS2 on an intel iMac, OS 10.5.5. I ran the install program, after a few seconds I get the following error message:

"Install Failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Adobe Photoshop CS2. Contact the software manufacturer
for assistance." (I did contact adobe, but they no longer support CS2) Originally, I had installed PS CS2 when I was using OS 10.4.X, then I upgraded to 10.5.x. PS CS2 was working fine on my system. Then I accidentally deleted the program, now I'm having trouble reinstalling. I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

I encountered the exact same problem - I had upgraded to CS2 from a previous version of Photoshop, back
when I was using OSX 10.3.9. Later, I upgraded my OS from 10.3.9, to Leopard (10.5.8.)
CS2 always ran flawlessly, through all those systems.
Then I had occasion to reformat my HD and reinstall Leopard 10.5.8.
That's when the CS2 installer failed, with the same message mentioned above.
When I called in, they basically said, buzz off....we won't help you.
First, this shows that their software is flawed.
They managed to allow this problem to occur due to inept programming.
Now they are either incapable, or unwilling, to write a programming fix for this problem.
It reeks olf ineptitude, plus colossal, inexcusable arrogance and disrespect for their customer base.
Just my humble opinion of course...and I've been a Photoshop user since 1990.

The following install step failed: run preupgrade script for AppleMobileDeviceSupport. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. what can i do to download software when the above message keeps popping up...not allowing me to download

I had the same problem this weekend.  The iphone 4s needed Itunes10.5 to sync to her Asus Windows 7 Laptop.  When I tried to download from the Apple website I got the error that the windows installer was missings files or something like that.  I uninstalled itunes and tried again but that didn't work.  Then I redownloaded itunes 10.3 just to have a working version in case I gave up.  Then I found site that suggested I update Windows by going through the start menu and while doing that I found an update Apple itunes file.
Goto Start and type Widows Update in the seach window.  Click on check for updates (I already was current with all updates but I suggest you download the updates if there are some available.
Goto start and this time just type update in the search window.  Look for the Apple itunes update link and click on it.  It found there were updates for itunes 10.5, Quick time, Safari, and Icloud.  I checked all the updates except for Safari, since we don't use it (yet).
The install started then seemed to stall at one spot for ~3min but then completed successfully.  I open itunes and had her synced with Outlook Contact, Email, Calender, and Notes in 5 minutes.  I did already configure Outlook by going to tools and Trust Center.
    I hope this works.
