Install/upgrade problem on N9

Installed Firefox v.11 without any problems.Update 11.0.0.1 arrived but update failed. I unistalled v.11 and installed 11.0.0.1. Install went ok but the now the icon is red with an exclamation mark. How can I get the Firefox icon back?
Nokia N9 with PR1.2

Are you using the win32 version? Or which one? Maemo doesn't have a v11 .

Macbook Pro 17" memory install upgrade problem

I have just installed 2 4GB RAM chips into my Macbook Pro 17" mid 2009 2.8GHz; Checking system info I am seeing Bank 0 with 4GB DDR3 1067 MHz and Bank 1 shows 2GB DDR3 1067 MHz. Both chips are seated properly & MacBK operates fine how do I correct this?

Does it show properly when the old memory is reinstalled?
What brand is the new memory -- OWC or Crucial?
Just because you *think* memory is installed properly does not mean it is. Seating memory is tricky, and even professionals may need to reseat memory.

Leopard problems after install/upgrade

I just installed/upgraded (from a black separately bought) leopard on my mum's iMac G5. The installation showed now problems, and then the computer restarted, booted up and gave me the account/log in screen. But here's the problem. After login in on (tried with several different accounts, but same problem), the computer freezes and then gives me the "you must restart your computer, hold down the power button," etc.
From what I've found online this is most likely a kernel error, so I tried Single User Mode (Apple(Cmd)+S), with "fsck -f" giving me = "The volume iMac appears to be OK."
I then ran Safe-mode and looked at the konsoll-log, and found these to be the last lines before the break down:

I would recommend an [archive and install|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710?viewlocale=en_US]. it will give you a fresh copy of leopard while preserving your data and user settings. this will get rid of the extension conflicts which are causing the kernel panics.

Issue installing/upgrading to ITunes 10.6.1.7

Im having an Issue installing/upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1.7 When upgrading it would not istall and tell me to go to Tools>Download manual. I also had an issue with my IPod touch not showing up in iTuens all of a sudden. So figuring the two problems were related I uninstalled iTunes (cleaned my itues folder in my C drive also) with hopes installing it fresh would work and now when I install 10.6.1.7 I get the following in a pop-up window "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified. Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit."
Anyone know what the issue is?

Try the following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

DSL and 9.1 to 9.2 upgrade problems? Please Help!!

I have a Beige g3 - 300 w/ 160 megs of memory - using Netscape 7.02 and occasionally Gatesmess IE-5. I have had dial up for 5 years and recently upgraded to DSL w/ Linksys WRT54G router connected via ethernet cable. Wifes HP laptop uses the wireless.
Problem is when connected to the internet, I get a looong -(30 - 40 second) delay between selecting the url and the page loading with a "resolving host" message at the bottom of the page. The modem send light flashes every five seconds or so and once the system locks on the url it loads really fast. With the dialup there was no delay in finding the url but took a long time to load. Result is it takes about the same amount of time to browse now as before. I don't think the winbox is having the same problem.
To try to resolve the "resolving host" issue I have been trying to upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2. When I download the package from apple.com at the end I get a 127 error which reestablishes itself everytime I click OK til I force quit the System. When I restart the computer, the file is on desktop OS 9.2 update.smi. First I opened the file w/ stuffit 5.2 and tried to install it following the instructions (sharing off, OS 9 extensions only etc) and about 4 minutes into the process I get the Bomb error 10. I have downloaded this three times and upgraded the Stuffit to 7.03 but am having the same problem. In order to get to 9.2.2 you have to upgrade to 9.2.1 first and that is what I am doing.
Anybody have any ideas either on the "resolving host" issue or the upgrade problem.

I read the article and it was of some help. Reference TCP/IP control panel settings. I called Commspeed support and they gave me their three current DNS numbers. I typed them per article and nothing - dead. Called them back and they gave me the typical winbox answers "No hable apple" so left to my own devices and considering the stratigies suggested in the article I did two things.
I opened the TCP/IP control panel and deleted the Name Server Address - As they are supposed to be assigned by the server. There was also a check box that said use 802.3 which was checked. I unchecked it and tried the internet. Blam it was right there. I don't know which stratigy worked as I did them simultaneously.
Still don't know about upgrading to 9.2.

That installer error is a "Can't open file" error
It suggest that you may have a corrupt file.
Try running a disk check

If it fixes errors try uninstalling iTunes again.
If that doesn't work, is it possible for find out the name of the problem file, is further information available? Try looking in your Action center - that's on the control panel. Another place is in the Windows Error logs. From the start menu , right click on "Computer" and select manage, then Event viewer.
If nothing emerges, try a manual uninstall of iTunes and related programs according to this method:

Don't worry if an uninstall fails, that is expected. Go on to the part where you have to delete files (2. Verify iTunes etc completely deleted) . Hopefully you manage to find a file that can't be deleted, that is the one we will need to deal with.

CS1 Install/Uninstall Problems ?

I can't uninstall CS1, nor can can I reinstall Photoshop from CS1, which is presently not installed. My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium. I am out of warranty and Adobe will not provide suppport. I have read all I can find about FLEXnet licensing suspecting there is a connection. When I try to either install or uninstall CS1, I get an error message from Microsoft saying that "Adobe CS1 installer has stopped working". There is no other information unless I open the Adobe File folder for Photoshop from CS1 that I saved to my desktop. I can initiate the install procedure from that folder, but when prompted for the original product serial number a message states that the serial number I have provided is invalid. I have talked with Adobe however, and their records indicate that I have a valid serial number.
I have gone to "Services" using the administrative tools in the control panel and tried setting FLEXnet Licensing on manual, then on automatic, and finally disabling it temporarily. I have gone to the Start Up menu on the desktop and entered "msconfig" in the search box and gone to services where FLEXnet was at first "stopped" and is now "running".
On some forums there are recommendations to first copy and save FLEXnet to another area of the hard drive, then delete it altogether from its original location, and then uninstall ALL Adobe software in the computer before reinstalling everything. Other contributors strongly caution the removal of FLEXnet, and some users have complained of ongoing problems after deleting FLEXnet. Firstly, I'm not sure I can figure out how to copy and save FLEXnet to another drive, and secondly I'm afraid of the possible results. Even if I can accomplish those tasks I don't know if that procedure will then allow me to either uninstall the portion of CS1 still in my computer, or reinstall the Photoshop that presently won't install. By the way, all the CS1 programs that remain in my computer are operational. Photoshop is the only missing component.
I am not well versed in technology, and much that I read in the forums is only partially comprehensible to me. If you have the patience and knowledge to help me unravel this mess I would love your help. Thanks. Harrison

Thank you Bob. It was very nice of you to write. I have been using CS1 with Vista since Vista came out. I'm aware that compatibility is considered a significant issue. Fortunately, I never had any problems until now, although I would have replaced CS1 with a more recent and compatible version if money were not part of the equation for me.
Adobe told me that if I bought the CS5 they would help me straighten out any issues now caused by the CS1, but otherwise they would not help. I did not think to ask if Adobe has designed CS5 to be compatible with Vista, but I will. I may buy the more recent version out of necessity, but it does not seem unreasonable to me that Adobe should help someone with a valid serial and registration number access their software regardless of warranties. The problem at hand seems to be a glitch in the licensing application provided by FLEXnet that I presume protects Adobe from unauthorized use of their products. I am wondering how much this situation actually has to do with system compatibility, given that I have been using the software for roughly two years with Vista, or whether it is simply that Adobe's FLEXnet licensing shield can work against legitimate users under certain circumstances. Adobe did not mention FLEXnet to me, but I would like to know one way or the other if FLEXnet is at the core of the problem.
Thank you again Bob for writing. I may wipe my OS clean and reload everything. I suspect the CS1 might work then, but I do realize that CS1 is old by technological standards, in spite of the fact that I would gladly continue to use it. I am among those people that find the cost of keeping current very difficult, and I find it exasperating that so many products and services become obsolete very rapidly when considering their relative cost. You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

Kernel upgrade problem with unmounted /boot

Yeah, you can probably infer from the title what this is about. Of course my problem was fixed pretty easy (booted into the arch rescue/install disk).
Basically if your /boot is not automounted (like mine, i have noauto set), and you upgrade your kernel things get whacky. The kernel itself is remains the same but all /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ files are removed and the new ones filled in. This causes a bunch of nifty "cannot find module xyz" on boot up. It'd be nice to see some sort of warning/notice about this similar to "HEY YOUR KERNEL WAS UPGRADED, MOUNT BOOT AND RERUN LILO/GRUB!!" as I believe most people just run pacman -Syu and go through the motions without noticing whats being upgraded really (at least I do).

there is a warning echoed in during the install/upgrade procedure at least about running lilo. i think the majority of people do not have a separate /boot partition so there is no need to do any unmounting.
i don't know how many times this has come up but IF you do use lilo you always have to run lilo after upgrading a kernel that cannot be automated during install. anyone who has used lilo *should* know this.
warnings of running lilo are there and always be there ... you just have to remember to ALWAYS pay attention to install output from pacman (or any package manager).

Try this from MacFixIt as well:
In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
* Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
* Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

Illustrator 8 on Vista-64 so I can install upgrade to CS2

I have already installed Photoshop PS2 on this Vista-64 system - no problem, have been using it for months. I seldom use Illustrator but now need to install so I can work with customer file. Won't install, installer exe doesn't even load. Note: Other thread focussed on suggestions that v8.0 is so old it's time to pay for upgrade. Well, I have the upgrade to CS2, but step-1 is install v8.0, then install upgrade. This worked fine for Photoshop, but not for Illustrator. Any suugestions?

Ooops, so sorry. I just tried to install the upgrade without first installing v8.0... worked fine. It simply asked me to install the v8.0 disc to verify (no need to actually install).

I am having problems trying to install upgrades from the Apple Store.
I am running Mountain Lion and have one upgrade. When I try to download I receive this message " you have updates for other accounts. Sign into (my e-mail) to update applications for that account.
I am signed in and have no idea what is happening.

I've bought LR5 as an upgrade disk from Amazon. Previously I had LR3 installed on my MAC OSX 10.9.4. Installation from disc was reported ok. After inserting the serial number, the original LR3 serial number is found, but if I hit continue LR5 disappears without any further message. Next time I start LR5, it starts again with asking for the serial number ...

Graphic Upgrade Problem with K430 desktop - Unresolved!

Xmas 2012 I purchased a Lenovo IdeaCentre K430 Desktop from PC world.
PC World said it would be upgradable if I need to upgrade it.
The system is:
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
16.0 GB DDR3
1.8 TB Hardrive
Windows 8
Geforce GT 640
I recently purchased Crysis 3 and its not running very well, so I brought a Geforce GTX 660.
However when I installed and rebooted the PC, I was greated with a blank flashing screen?
other people have simular problems on the GeForce forums.
I have since took the card back PLUS 3 MORE for a refund, and very dissapointed that I can't upgrade this PC.
CAN SOMEONE AT LENOVO PLEASE REPLY WITH A LIST OF 'MODERN/LATEST GRAPHIC CARDS, THAT ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THIS MODEL STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX?
CHANGING THE BIOS SETTINGS DOES NOT WORK FOR ME!
It's been almost 2 years and I've still not found a compatible card, so much for the Ultimate Upgradable PC!

(The only downfall to this backing-up process is that I haven't found an easy way to back-up the comments attached to each photo. Any advice on this? Part of the "horror" to losing one's photos is also losing the comments added to them over the years.)
Back to the install... I installed iLife 08 and it installed correctly. I checked to see what version of the applications I have in the dock on my desktop - I figured it would just import existing data (photos, tunes, etc.) into the newer version and replace it in the dock - +it only did this for iDVD+, of course it wasn't that easy for the others.
I can't find the newer version of iPhoto. My iPhoto in the dock still says version 2. iTunes in my dock is version 7 (7.4.2). iMovie is version 3 (3.0.3). But the new Garageband is there in the dock. And of course, iDVD is the newer version '08.
I am most concerned with iPhoto and making sure all the photos AND their comments import correctly into the newer iPhoto 08. I am nervous about this so I want to make sure I do the process correctly.
I also want to make sure my iTunes information imports correctly to the newer version as well.

If you backed up the iPhoto Library Folder then you got everything - photos, albums, comments etc

The Dock is not important. Look in your Applications Folder for iPhoto 08. That's where it should be. The Dock is just a shortcut to that. What version is in your Apps folder?
To upgrade a Library from v2 to iPhoto 08 all you do is open the Library with the newer version.
