Install VM Server on Guest Linux to Install EBS Vision Templates ?
Hello
I have a Mac with VMware fusion and plan to install a guest linux 6 virtual machine. My question is: Do I need to Install VM manager and VM Sever on the linux virtual machine?
Will VM Server Installation erase my host operating system (Mac)? The VM server manual says
" Oracle VM Server includes a small Linux-based management operating system. All previous operating systems and data are lost during the installation of Oracle VM Server"
Thanks
Hello,
Please note that VMware and Oracle VM are 2 different products; VMware is a desktop product from VMware, and Oracle VM requires a separate 64bit server for Oracle VM Server and (at least initially) another separate 64bit server for Oracle VM Manager. This Oracle VM Manager can after it has been installed be moved to a Virtual machine on the Oracle VM Server as documented; 4.7 Running Oracle VM Manager as a Virtual Machine
All documentation is at Oracle VM Documentation
Regards, Carlo.

Installing SQL Server 2012 on Linux Ubuntu
Hello, Can I install SQL Server 2012 on Linux Ubuntu? So far I can only find downloads of ODBC for Red Hat. Any ideas?
Hi Mike,
Please also take a look at the following article regarding the Operating System requirement to install SQL Server:
Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2012:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
As Sean said, we can connect to SQL Server via ODBC from Linux Ubuntu. Here are some articles for your reference, please see:

How to install HTTP Server in a Linux Machine for running APEX
I've Installed Unbreakable Linux 4.7 and I'm using the standard apache which comes (Apache 2), I want to install the HTTP Server in order to run APEX on this machine, and may it look the data from the database which is oracle 10g (The database is on another machine). Could both installations of apache and Oracle http server co-exists and what is the best form to do it??
Yes, they can. They installed in different directories and you have to use different ports.
AFAIK for HTTP for APEX is either part of the installation (eg. in the Oracle Express Edition) or part of the Oracle Installation CDs. For more information see the Oracle Installation Documentation.

Installing BI Server & Presentation Server on 2 different Linux Boxes-OBIEE
Hi,
I am trying to install OBI EE on Red Hat Linux Boxes. I have to install BI Server on one Linux box and Presentation Server on another Linux box. Both are in the same network. I will be installing Apache web server on the machine where Presentation server resides. Please let me know how will Presentation server talk to BI server since both are going to be in different machines.
I know that I have to point the DSN in the Instanceconfig.INI file to the linux box where BI server resides. I know that I have to modify analytics.war file.
I would really appreciate if anyone can give me some direction in regards to installations.
Thanks,
PraveenAll you have to do is to modify the web.xml file in your Analytics.war file to tell it the BI Server name and port and it will work.

S S ManneHi Manne,
As your description, you come across an error when trying to install SQL Server 2008 express Service Pack 1 on windows XP Service Pack 3 machine. From your error log, I get the error(unable to read registry value). As my analysis, the issue could be due
to that your account doesn't have access to registry. Below are the recommendations for troubleshooting the issue.
1. Make sure that you log in as an administrator of the machine.
2. Please follow the steps below to make sure that you have granted the right permission to registry.
a. Located HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server in registry.
b. Right click and go to Permission, then you could see user accounts or groups. If your user account is not in the list, you could click Add to add your account there.
c. Select your account and Click on Advance.
d. Check on both check box ('Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent'.
and 'Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object'), click OK.
e. Click OK again.

Hi everybody,
This is a question in another forum I am frequent. Someone installed SQL Server Express 2008 R2 and he used the wrong exe, so he installed it without tools. Now he wants to install SSMS.
It looks like SSMS 2012 wants to have SQL Server 2012 Express installed first.
Can someone please confirm if it's possible to install just SSMS 2012 after SQL Server 2008 R2 Express was already installed and if possible, guide through the installation steps?
Thanks a lot in advance.

My blog
My TechNet articlesHi Naomi,
Agree with Shanky.
I have tested the scenario you described. Everything works well, I successfully install SQL Server Management studio 2012 after SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (without tools) was already installed.
Please note that we don’t need to install SQL Server 2012 Express first when installing SSMS 2012. For detailed installation steps of SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and SSMS 2012, you can review below blogs.
How to Install SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express Edition)
SQL Server Management Studio – A step-by-step installation guide
In addition, we can use SSMS 2012 to manage SQL Server Express 2005 /2008 /2008 R2, the tool is backward compatible.

Where to install SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint?
The environment is SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2012 SP2 Enterprise Edition.
SQL Server 2012 SP2 Enterprise Edition is installed as default instance on a dedicated box. All the features are selected in the Feature Selection windows during installation (see image).
Now, I need to install SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint. Should it be installed on the same dedicated box? If I understand correctly, I need to select the SQL Server PowerPivot for SharepPoint option and uncheck
the checkbox Add SQL Server Database Relational Engine Services to this installation. Does this option also install SSAS? Since there is already an existing SSAS, will that cause problem?Hi PcSQL66,
To install SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint, you need to select SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint
on the Setup Role page. Please refer to the screenshot below.
And if you have a SSAS instance installed in your server, install SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint will install another SSAS instance.
For the detail information, please refer to the link below.

Is possible to install Application server 7 on SuSE linux 9.0
is possible to install Application server 7 on SuSE linux 9.0
Actually, this might not be the case since version 7 is based on native implementation of web container while version 8 is based on Tomcat (i.e. pure Java implementation). So, version 7 will definitely be more prone to platform specific issues.

How to install DAC server (for OBIA v7963) on linux ?
Guys - I am in the mid of installing OBIA v7963 on linux x64 . And right now I am doing the DAC server installation part .
The installation guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20490_01/bia.7963/e19038/windows_ic.htm#BABHDEJJ clearly says that we have to install
DAC server on windows box first and then copy it over to linux . crude and cumbersome !! As per this guide - there is no way to directly install it on linux .
Where as the downloaded DAC s/w has a runInstaller which works in a 32 bit linux shell (not in 64 bit shell) . I did it and the installation went fine .
This is how it is done in our environment . My question is : why does the installation guide say nothing about this easy way of installing it ? And how
do you guys do it usually ? What's the best practice ?You are right RM . I straight away installed it on linux . Me installing DAC for the first time - I had no other choice than following this installation guide
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20490_01/bia.7963/e19038/windows_ic.htm#BABHDEJJ
But this method of directly installing on linux is no where said in the guide . I wonder why ? And the very purpose of having a installation guide is defeated here .
I have seen typos in oracle documentation . But this is a huge huge miss in the documentation . I can't believe it .
Thank You . -
Issues on Installing Oracle on Windows Server 2008 Guested on VMware Workstation 10
I am trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on Windows Server 2008 Guested on VMware Workstation 10 but I am getting this Warning on Enterprise Manager Configuration at the end of installation.
Besides, when I tried to connect to hr database through Oracle SQL Developer I am getting following error:
Can you please let me know what I have done wrong? and how can I fix This? ThanksFarzanx1 wrote:
I need to install and configure Active Directory and DNS service on a
remote Windows Server 2008 R2 which has a public facing IP, gateway
and DNS. I don't really understand such network structure:
IP Address: xx.xx.93.158
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.252
Default Gateway: xx.xx.93.157
DNS: xx.xx.64.10
I have experience on installing AD and DC, DNS services on local
servers (which then the server becomes the DC for the local network)
but I hesitate to do this on a publicly facing production server.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a proper guide for my case.
Would appreciate if someone could guide me on the steps I need to
take so that I will not disturb the current network settings. (A
little down time for installing the services and features is ok as
long as I don't lose connectivity)
Thanks
You want to install AD on an Internet Server?
According to your description your server has one public IP-address and
no internal IP-address and you want to install AD on this Internet
server?? Is that correct??
Can you tell us the intended use of this server. Do you want to host
services on this server, which need AD authentication?
If you have a second NIC and your DC is on another local machine I
would not expose your local AD on an public accessible server. If this
server shall become a DC it should not have more than one IP-address.
If you want to access data on this server via Internet securely I would
recommend a VPN solution - preferably not running on the server itself
but on a separate firewall between the server and the internet. In this
case I would have no see a big security problem running AD on this
server.

Error installing av server 10.2.3 on linux 32 bit
hi,
I am trying to install av server on linux x86 32 bit machine from the downloaded software file av_10_2_3_server_linux_x32.
All the pre install requisites are met and there is no error until the avca is started by the configuration manager.
here is the output from installaction logs.
right after dbvca succceded
INFO: Command = oracle.av.common.AvcaCfgPlugIn /oracle/product/10.2.3/av_server/bin/avca -s initialize_av -sid avfll -avadm ${s_avadm} ${s_avauditor} -dvowner ${s_dvownerarg} ${s_dvacctmgr} -dbalias avfll -avconsoleport 5700 -xdbhttpport 5707
Command = oracle.av.common.AvcaCfgPlugIn has failed
INFO: Configuration assistant "Oracle Audit Vault Configuration Assistant" failed
*** Starting OUICA ***
Oracle Home set to /oracle/product/10.2.3/av_server
Configuration directory is set to /oracle/product/10.2.3/av_server/cfgtoollogs. All xml files under the directory will be processed
INFO: The "/oracle/product/10.2.3/av_server/cfgtoollogs/configToolFailedCommands" script contains all commands that failed, were skipped or were cancelled. This file may be used to run these configuration assistants outside of OUI. Note that you may have to update this script with passwords (if any) before executing the same.
Now I can try to manually run this command but I am not sure about the value of various arguments ( like ${s_avadm}, ${s_avauditor etc.) used in the above command.
Any help would be deeply appriciated!${s_avadm} ${s_avauditor}
Would be the avadmin and the avauditor accounts that you specified during the install. In the basic install, it usually is avadmin and avauditor
${s_dvownerarg} ${s_dvacctmgr}
These are the Oracle Database Vault owner and account manager accounts specified during the install. In the basic install is avadmindvo and avadmindva.
Make sure that you run this as a unix user that is part of the DBA group and please make sure that you don't have - (hyphen) in the host name. If so, then you need to apply a patch 7242648
Thanks.
