Install windows 7 boot camp

Hi!
After having   installed Lion I'm trying to install Windows 7 thru  boot camp.
But when I insert the instlation disk a black screen appears with:
1.
2.
Select CD- Rom Boot Type: _
Need help!

Ok, I'll try to install not using the boot camp procedure.
1) I attempted to boot directly from the Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit cd, and all the screen said was "Boot:" and it wouldn't take any input from the keyboard, numbers or letters.
2) I attemped to boot directly from the Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit cd, and it says "Windows cannot install to the selected location, error 0x80300024. When I attempt to wipe the hard drive from having booted the Windows 7 disc, it errs out with "Failed to create a new partition, error 0800040005"
3) Frustrated, I booted from an Ubuntu 12.04LTS CD to see if I could install that to the hard drive instead, and it just gives me a blank mauve screen.
Reminder, this is a 2006 Mac Pro. If I had a steady job maybe I'd upgrade to a 2008 Mac Pro, but there's not many IT jobs in northern Indiana.
Maybe I'll try installing Boot Camp again in a couple of days.

will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me? if so, costs?

Ask them. We don't know what your local Apple Store will do for you. It will certainly cost you their hourly charge for however many hours are involved. You may have to purchase Win8 from them but if not you must have a copy of your own.
Or you can take the time to read the Boot Camp documentation and do it yourself. Start here: Apple - Support - Boot Camp. Open Boot Camp Assistant then click on the large button on the left to print the documentation. Then read it very carefully.

  • Cannot install windows 8.1 on imac 5k - apple support says "Correct, that machine can't install windows" Boot camp fail

I have a brand new imac 5k, with 4ghz i7, 295x GPU, 3.1TB fusion drive.  Bought the machine so I could dual boot - I need windows for VR Dev work.
I've spent the last week and a half on tech support calls with Apple Senior Tech agents, and Microsoft agents as well, and today have been told that indeed this machine cannot run windows 8.1.  Apparently Apple engineering knows about the issue, but says the problem is microsoft's.  Ugh.
The latest iteration of the issue comes when installing 8.1 onto an external thunderbolt SSD (without even using boot camp) - I go through the EFI installer, convert the drive to GPT, format it as ntfs, but when I select the partition to install onto, the installer says it can't find the partition it just created.  Smuh?
I've also tried the install through boot camp.  This installation actually worked twice, but the install was unstable.  After booting back into osX, then returning to Windows, the windows install went corrupt and couldn't be repaired.  Subsequent attempts to install windows yielded a flurry of different errors, including "windows doesn't support GPT in this mode" or "the disk is locked, please unlock the disk" or "MBR must be converted to GPT" (where once I converted to GPT, the drive could no longer be found, despite the operation completing successfully.)
At any rate, it's a huge mess.  I'd happily return the machine for a different config, but the company I bought it from will only swap it for a similar model -- so I've spent a pile on a machine that does not function as advertised; apple says "too bad, talk to Microsoft." Microsoft says "too bad, we've never seen this, this is an apple issue."
Has anyone out there gotten windows up and running on an iMac5k with fusion drive?  If so, did you have to go through a crazy maze to make it work?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    MC

After much gnashing of teeth, and a half dozen support calls, I'd all but given up.  I finally seem to have solved this though - sort of - by installing windows 8.1 on boot camp on an older iMac, then cloning the bootcamp disk to an external thunderbolt drive via Winclone.  That worked seamlessly, sticking to winclone's instructions, and I can boot via EFI to Windows 8.1 on the new iMac.  So far so good.
I usually install W8.1 via EFI by using DU and a Free Space partition. The 3TB Fusion is first split into the underlying SSD/HDD physicals. OSX and Windows OSes are installed on SSD via EFI (no BCA). The OSX part and half the HDD are then used to create a new CS volume. The other HDD half becomes NTFS for non-Windows OS files. The Hybrid MBR method is completely unsatisfactory with the 3TB Fusion drive.
How is the TB/Winclone image for performance of the OS (since pagefile.sys is also on the TB)?

  • My sound no longer works on Mac OS after installing a Boot Camp partition for Windows 7 x64.

I installed Windows 7 x64-Bit Professional Edition on my iMac Mid-2011 on Yosemite 10.10.2 through Boot Camp. I installed Windows 7 without any hitches and I proceeded to install an old PC game and I was able to run it just fine, I could here the audio perfectly. But, the next day, when I started my iMac on the Mac OS partition, the sound bar icon on the top right was greyed out. This problem began occurring after I restarted to the (original) Mac OS partition I've tried to check it out on System Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup. On Sys Prefs, it says, "No output devices found" and "No input devices found". On Audio MIDI Setup, it says,"No Devices Found on the System."When I go back to the Windows partition, I can hear audio just fine and I can even set the volume from my keyboard. I have already updated the necessary drivers on the Windows side. I've reset the PRAM and repaired the disk permissions with Disk Utility. Headphones don't work either but I can send audio through a bluetooth speaker that I have.

    Hi 0day,
unfortunately you have to have the MacOS DVD to install the Boot Camp 3 (legally).
The 3.1 and 3.2 are upgrades to that (as you found out).

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

  • Parallel/Windows XP installed b4 Boot Camp.  Can I still install Boot Camp?

Hi, I'm new to Mac and I installed the parallel program and windows xp on the mac before installing the boot camp. Is there a way to install the boot camp software and not uninstall microsoft xp and it's programs and the parallel program?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
sure thing you can, but you can't use the Windows license you use with Parallels with BootCamp too.
You have to buy a second one.
And you can't use the Parallels Windows Virtual Machine for install with BootCamp as it needs to be installed from a Windows CD/DVD.
The other way round, using a BootCamp Windows for a Parallels Virtual Machine is possible.
Check with the Parallels manual on how-to achieve this.

  • Weird DVD drive issue on Windows Boot Camp on Macbook Pro

Hi, I just installed Windows on my Macbook Pro with Boot Camp. Windows itself works fine, then I tried installing Fallout 3. The installation took a really long time, which I thought was weird. I tried to play the game but it timed out in trying to read the disc. To further test this, I threw in a movie DVD and tried to play it. Windows Media Player said I didn't have a compatible DVD decoder. I tried playing the dvd in Mac OS and it works fine. I've also run the Leopard DVD install for Boot Camp fine. I used the Windows XP video decoder and it has determined that I don't have an MPEG-2 decoder installed. What I'm confused about is that if I manage to get a hold of a decoder, will that affect other processes, such as reading the DVD for video games?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
by design courtesy of Microsoft the Media Player is not capable of playing DVDs unless an appropriate DVD-Decoder is installed.
You can use an alternative media player like VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc
But this should not affect the usage of Windows Games, since usually a Games manufacturer puts all needed software to run his games onto the games CD/DVD, so it has to be something else preventing Fallout 3 from running.
Time-outs when trying to read/check the disc can be sometimes caused by 'dirt' on the disc (fingerprints, scratches, etc.).
    Check for that.
Also make sure to have not installed programs for 'Virtual-Disc-Drives' like Daemon-Tools and/or Disc-Burning software like Nero, since these can also hinder the game from running.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan

  • Does OS installed through boot camp or in virtual machine has access and full control of the peripherals like native OS X Lion?

I am planning to buy new PC for my faculty needs and this time I am thinking to buy Apple laptop like Mac book Pro 13" or so ( I owe already IPhone and Ipad 2)
To make final decision I need few information . These are:
    1. May I use Boot Camp or similar utility software to install Windows 7 OS next to OS X Lion, or use some kind of virtual box software to create virtual machines with diverse guest OS in them like Windows , Linux etc.?
    2. Does OS installed through Boot camp or in virtual machine has access and full control of the peripherals like native OS X Lion?
    3. May I use the same disk partitions to access to the files regardless if I am using Windows 7 or OS X Lion operating system?
    4. Is there full compatibility between Microsoft Office under OS X Lion and Windows 7 M. Office?
    5. What is general user experience with OS X Lion operating system comparing to Windows 7?
Thanks for  sharing your experience with me.

    1. Yes. You can install Windows 7 natively using Boot Camp Assistant or you can install Windows 7 in a virtual machine using Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox
    2. If installed using Boot Camp Assistant Windows 7 uses all your computer's resources just as OSx does. If installed using a VM Windows 7 will share the computer's resources with OSx.
    3. A Boot Camp partition is separate from the OSx partition. The VMs allow sharing of files across partitions since both OS are running at the same time.
    4. No, not 100%.
    5. Too broad a question. Be specific about what feature you are asking about or search the Internet for comparisons. I use both and find they both work well.

  • Windows Boot Camp partition not showing up on Startup Disk in Snow Leopard

    Dear Fellow Mac Heads,
I have Windows 7 RTM installed as Boot Camp in one partition and Snow Leopard 10.6.1 installed in another. In Windows, the Boot Camp icon shows everything (i.e. Network, Windows 7, and Mac OSX Snow Leopard) so I can switch back and forth as I please. But in Mac OS, the Startup Disk menu under Systems Preferences only shows the Mac partition and Network. Windows 7 is nowhere to be found. I can't even do the OPTION on keyboard boot to get into Windows. I have to shutdown the machine, restart while holding onto OPTION key before all partitions show up. What's wrong with this picture? Is this happening to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

Maybe you are using something like NTFS-3G?
Maybe this thread has something for you...

Oh, sorry I just noticed that you have read or posted in that thread, but didn't like the answer?
You get strange results with many 3rd party products. I don't use Bootcamp at all. Parallels 4 works very well with Snow Leopard and none of this booting back and forth hassle. Windows is just for research, use the Mac side for performance.

  • No Sound in Windows Boot Camp

hey guys...i just downloaded windows onto my macbook pro via boot camp, and now I am getting no sound when windows is running. Any suggestions? My email is [email protected], you can reach me there, or on this post. I've been doing of searching on problem fixes and nothing seems to work. Thanks in advance

Just to clear up something simple first. Once you booted into Windows then did you insert your Leopard CD in the drive and let Windows install the boot camp drivers? If not then that is your solution.
If you did the above then please tell us which version of windows are you using and a little bit about your computer equipment.

  • Non-responsive keyboard/trackpad in W7 install via Boot Camp

I have a brand new MacBook Air, upgraded to Maverics, and trying to install Windows 7 64 bit.
I have made a usb stick via an iso image from DigitalRiver, through Boot Camp, and started the installation via bootcamp. I also installed the rEFIt drivers, so i got the nice boot menu.
When I boot into the installation, i cant do anything. My trackpad and keyboard is non-responsive (I can't even get the caps lock to light up).
    I've tried to:
*boot into W7 safe mode, pressing F8 while booting, but it doesn't help.
*"run unsigned drivers", from the same menu
*Removing setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder on the disk. Also with no avail.
I have seen that people have been struggling with keyboard and trackpads in W7 over Boot camp, but I cant even install it...
    Please help
    Edit:
Only key responding is the shutdown key.
I don't have any external mice or keyboards.

    SOLVED
I just did it all over again, and it worked. Removed the partition and installed from boot camp again.

  • How do I restore data to a new mac with windows boot camp partition?

    Hi
I have a new iMac and an old MBP, I'd like to copy all of the data of my old MBP to the iMac.Would doing that affect the windows boot camp partition?
and how do I do it?
right now im backing everything up on my MBP using super duper
both the MBP and the iMac are running on Lion

I am assuming the Boot Camp partition is on the old MBP and that the SuperDuper clone is on an external drive and is bootable. The Super Duper clone does not include the Boot Camp Partition.
To get the Mac Data moved you can use Migration Assistant and if you want to transfer the Boot Camp partition you would need Winclone to move/copy it to a newly created Boot Camp partition on the iMac. The SD Clone ( and a Winclone backup) is your insurance policy if some kind of difficulty arises.

  • Could I reinstall OS X partition keeping the windows boot camp partition?

II have a OS x partition that need reinstall. In the same hd I have a Windows Boot camp partition. The question is, could I reinstall OS X partition without affect the Windows partition?
    Thanks,
    Jorge.

    Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Of course you should backup both.
Q: why do you think OS X needs to be reinstalled or something?
    Disk directory trouble?
Because 3rd party disk utility can do better, as well as maybe clone Mac volume so you can boot and do more repairs.
Or maybe the partition table is shot. Or bad sectors. And bad sectors can require a full format.
In a perfect world, but disk drives and systems aren't

  • Installed Leopard - Boot Camp selector disappeared

    Hi,
In Mac OS X Tiger I had Vista installed via Boot Camp. This partition was also hooked via Parallels, so I could use Vista either "raw" or virtual. Very handy.
Then I upgraded to Leopard. Vista works ok with parallels, although gives strange exclamation about "ejecting vista". But what doesn't work is the boot camp selector. *It's gone!* When I boot up the computer and press alt/option, nothing happens and Leopard boots up.
Vista is there and working because it works from Parallels. And I can see the 35 gig Vista partition with disc utility.
*How to tell OS X that: "Hey, you've got a Vista, so show it up in boot camp selector."?*
    -pom-

If you mean OS X's System Preferences --> Startup Disk, then there's only two options:
    -Mac OSX 10.5 on hd
    -network startup
In Vista I only have Parallels Tools which do not contain anything related to selecting startup OS.

    2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz

    256GB flash storage1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
    Built-in battery (7 hours

Windows Boot Camp does not exist, you mean Boot Camp Assistant, which is a Mac program, it is the program you would use to prepare your Mac to run Windows.
You will need a 64bit retail or OEM version of Windows Home or Professional.
You will also need to read the Boot Camp Documentation thoroughly, and make a complete backup of your machine before repartitioning.

I have been an ardent user of aperture for years now and got used to the great workflow. Ever since version 1 I have been enjoying working with aperture. It is the workflow that kept me from changing.
I got a new MacPro 12 GB ram, 4TB HDD my library mostly indexed files sits on a raided 2TB for maximum of comfort. I did this in an effort to keep me from writing the posts I writing lately. I do not have the time rally to do this but reality is something different.
Today I am working on a job I need to finish quickly and in aperture workflow manner. So I switched to full screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen mode and after pressing 'H' for the HUD my screen started flickering. please look at the video I posted in my flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mawas/4719742585/
