Install windows 8.1 in only one partition ( GPT )

Is possible to install windows 8.1 in only one partition (GPT ) ( There are at least three in a default installation ).
Thank you !

Its simple, I am listing steps below, feel free to ask for clarification if you need assistance.
1. boot into winpe and clean the disk if it has some other partition. (boot from media and then at wekcome prompt press shift F10)
2. open diskpart.
3 select the disk and create partition for EFI. (create partition efi size=350)
4 format this partition with FAT32, (format fs=FAT32 quick)
5. create second partition with NTFS, (create partition primary and then format it with NTFS file system assign it letter c:)
6. In windows DVD, locate install.wim, it should be by default under x:\sources\
7. Apply the wim file on the image,
Dism /apply-image /imagefile:x:\sources\install.wim /index:1 /ApplyDir:C:\
8. Run the command to copy the boot files to this new EFI partition.
bcdboot c:\windows
boot up!

  • Installing Boot Camp - There is only one partition available for Windows

I have a brand new Mac Mini. Ran Boot Camp assistant and created Windows partition - 80 GB. Then when instructed, inserted Windows XP install disc. It went through some install steps then came to screen where you chose the partition to install Windows. There was only one partition showing - Partition 1. I think that's the Mac partition, so I quit install, removed partition with Boot Camp and tried again, this time setting Windows partition at 32GB. Insert Windows install disc, same result - only Partition 1. I called Apple support, we did it all again - same result. They had me completely reformat my Mac disc with the OSX discs, then run Boot Camp assistant and set partition to 32 GB. Same result - only Partition 1 is available. The Windows install disc I am using is the same disc I used to put Windows on my son's MacBook about 9 months ago.
I need this Mac Mini to run both OS. What to do?

Use NTFS for Windows and buy Paragon NTFS for OS X
You can also try Paragon HFS for Windows
As long as you are using for data and backups, you can leave the drive as GPT too.
I would recommend strongly to always have a 2nd bootable Mac OS drive, only need 30GB partition. System maintenance. Though LIon Recovery Mode finally makes it less but not totally unneeded.
And yes you can use Windows to create a partition.
Boot Camp is too broad. Do you want or mean BC Assistant? not needed but probably possible.
MBR has trouble with 3TB drives.

  • Bootcamp trouble, only one partition shows when windows boots

I recieved my macbook pro today and I am having trouble trying to install windows xp with bootcamp. I create a partition with bootcamp and insert the install disk. The blue screen for windows appears and asks me which partition to choose. There is only one partition that has 131000 MB. This isnt the amount I asked for.
I followed every step. I even found out that other people are having the same problem as me on other forums and I havn't seen a solution yet. Please help me!

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
such 'behaviour' usually is a hint that your Windows XP does not include the SP2 (Service Pack 2) or later, but is a SP1 or earlier.
Check the label of the CD for mentioning of SP2.
If SP1 you can use these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp to make yourself a XP SP2 Installation CD.
XP SP2 or later is a must for BootCamp to work.

  • Install Windows on external HD only (for MBA)

I will be taking a computer programming course in college and somehow I think I'll have to install Windows (probably 7). My MBA is the 2013 model with 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM, and the SSD has 60 GB remaining. I'm not the biggest fan of Windows (W7 is the only one I actually like, I hate all the others except 95.) I do have an external Western Digital 1TB USB 3 hard drive that I currently use for Time Machine. So 1) Can I partition the external drive to use Windows on it, and how do I partition it? And 2) Will I be able to install Windows ONLY on the external drive and boot Windows just from there so that I only have OS X on my MBA?? I just don't want to waste precious SSD space on an OS that I don't really care for so I want to use it from the external HD. ONE MORE QUESTION: since it's a USB 3 drive, will Windows perform fast on the drive if it's external??

    Okay, thanks.
You said earlier, "You install VB on your internal drive and when you set it up choose the external as the location for the files." I can only click "install for all users on this computer." I have my drive plugged in but it doesn't say anything about installing on another disk.

  • Rescue and Recovery with only one partition, what will happen? Thanks!

Hello, everyone! This is my question: If I do a clean installing of Windows 7 with only one partition(the C and I install the Rescue and Recovery tool, when I make a backup of the system by using the Rescue and Recovery then the backup file will be stored in the partition C:. So when I restore the system with the backup file later, if I can succeed and what will happen? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Backups and restores will still work.  The risk is if something happens to your hard drive, then you would lose the backups as well.  For this reason it's a much better idea to store your backups somewhere else, such as USB hard drive or network.

  • Why does closing all open windows (15) and leaving only one drop ram usage from 1.5 to 1.4Gb and not more.

Why does closing all open windows (15) and leaving only one drop ram usage by only 100mb from 1.5 to 1.4Gb.
What is in this 1.4 gb ?
I don't care much about ram, It's just that cpu usage spike like crazy by the end.

Hi musicfan,<br />Sorry you are having problems with Firefox. Maybe you should have asked earlier and we could have fixed it.
Reading your comments I do not see that rolling back to an insecure Firefox 22 will actually help you much. You are probably best using IE, unless you have also damaged that.

You should not use old versions they are insecure. Security fixes are publicised and exploitable.

Most others will not be having such problems. We are now able to say that with confidence because after developers missed a regression in Firefox 4 telemetry was introduced so that data was obtained. It may be an idea to turn on your telemetry, if you have not already done so, and decide to stick with Firefox.

  • External Hard Drive - Only one partition is recognized

I have a 1TB GDrive, NTFS formatted, that has been divided into three partitions. When I connect the drive to my Mac Pro, only one partition is recognized. I have tried downloading Tuxera, rebooting the system, and connecting with different cables. Disc Utility only sees the one partition. I have also tried connecting the drive to another Mac with the same results. While this is not a new drive, it has been used for editing on a PC system, this is the first time it has been connected to a Mac. However, this is the first time that my Mac system has had difficulty reading a partitioned PC formatted drive. And when the drive is connected to a PC, all partitions are recognized and all are read as being healthy.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue would be appreciated!

Mac OS only recently added the ability to resize partitions. With Windows there are so many options, tools, and types of partitions; including extended volumes, non-destructive ability to add a drive to and create mirror and stripe RAID.
If you don't have Windows and don't have MacFuse +3G or Paragon NTFS driver... but at least Windows will let you see, or burn one of the Linux type boot CDs to troubleshoot or more.

  • I'm trying to install windows 8 on mac, but after partitioning and restarting, it stucks on blue logo and i waited 20 minutes but nothing happened, what can i do, please help.

I'm trying to install windows 8 on mac, but after partitioning and restarting, it stucks on blue logo and i waited 20 minutes but nothing happened, what can i do, please help.

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
    restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    restart boot camp assistant
    Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

  • How do i confirm whether it is using only one partition.

I want to select the data from one partition only.
How do i confirm my select query using only one partition.
To front end developers how do i suugest to use correct partition.
I know in the select query we can write partion name also if i know the partition.
But i don't the correct partition name as a front end developer.

    Hello,
You can find partitions for the table from following view user_tab_partitions. You can use PARTITION Clause but it defeats the purpose of having partition key column,
You should be able to do this
    select * from my_part_table where part_key='key';Regards

  • Only one Partition showing up while trying to install XP

I followed all the instructions to the word. I set up the partition for 32GB, and insert the XP disc ect ect. When I get to the part where I'm supposed to pick "C:Partition3<BOOTCAMP>[FAT32]", IT'S NOT THERE!
The only one that comes up is something like "C:unidentified.....something"
    What's wrong?
When I restart OS X, on the desktop, there is an icon for a "drive" labeled BOOTCAMP. (and it's 32GB in size)
Am I supposed to do something with this?
    Please HELP.

When you say looking for "C:Partition3<BOOTCAMP>FAT32" you won't see this ANYWHERE during the windows installation .
What you will see is a STD Windows (Command line style) installer.
It will take you through the normal installation windows procedure.
When you get to the partition register screen you will have a list of THREE partitions each with the windows drive lettering protocol applied.
The largest will be your OSx install (DONT touch !)
The second about 200mb allocated to EFI booting process (ALSO DON"T touch or delete ever !)
The third is/or will be your "C" drive for windows, Oh and it may well have just bout any letter not just "C" Don't worry !
Using the keyboard arrows select this third drive partition press return/enter and you will be prompted to format this partition.
If you want to remain with FAT32 select FAT32 quick format or if you want to use NTFS you can select this now and quick format.
Windows will now take its time formating after which you will complete this install process.
    Regards
    Keith

  • Can't install windows it says the boot camp partition is not formatted as a NTFS file structure

Using boot camp assistant it gets to the point of installing windows 7 and it won't because the boot camp partition is not a NTFS file structure. It also seems strange to me that there are 5 partitions would have expect ether 2 or 3. Please help this is very frustrating.
    Thanks in advance

Open, if not so already, the Windows formatter. Identify the BC Windows partition. It will be the one listed with the proper size you created and/or will be labeled as a C: drive. Be careful you select the right one or you may be corrupting the entire drive.
    Format the partition as NTFS.

  • Help with Preferences... fresh install of 3.01, but only one preference?

If I click on Soundtrack Pro > Preferences, only one option appears in the pop-up window: 'Video Out'. Same result when typing 'Cmd-,'. This is a new install of STP 3.01. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Apparently the 'Preference' file was scrambled. Deleted it and all is well.

  • Installing windows 7 over XP with 3 partitions

On my macbook I used the following method to install xp via bootcamp and obtain 3 partitions (windows, shared fat32 data, and mac partitions). http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/246/114
Now I'd like to install windows 7 while keeping my other 2 partitions. I'll have to do a clean install since upgrading is not supported. However, since I used a cryptic method previously to install XP, will a regular clean install work, or will something like the boot record get messed up?
    Thank you.

    Hi sblive,
I admit that I haven't tried such partitioning myself (no need for me with a Mac Pro ).
Nonetheless, some ideas to throw in here:
First of: backup everything you need later (OSX, shared DATA files, Windows)
For your Windows XP you can use the "Windows Easy Transfer" as described here http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/win7_upgrade.asp
Most likely you should delete the DATA partition and assign the space back to your OSX partition (backup the files form that partition before doing...).
After that you maybe then can use the BootCamp Assistant to delete to the Windows XP partition and revert back fully to one single OSX partition.
If this does not work, you can use the following:
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX 10.6 install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
When you are back at one single OSX partition, you should be able to simply use the instructions you linked to again to first install WIndows 7 and then make the shared DATA partition again.
Since Windows 7 (and Vista btw.) don't use a boot.ini anymore you might have to use EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 to make the neccessary cahanges to the WIndows 7 bootloader.
    Good luck
    Stefan

  • Black screen when installing Windows XP on new Boot Camp partition

I just upgraded my iMac Intel Alum to Leopard and used Boot Camp to create the Windows partition. When I try to install Windows XP from the install disk, I just get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. Is it having trouble finding the Boot Camp partition for the Windows install? Everything else is working fine. Leopard still boots okay and everything works in Mac OS - I just can't get to the next step of installing Windows.
    Thanks in advance,

When I say disk image, I mean a copy of a friend's Windows XP install disk . Even though it's a copy, it boots a PC fine. Any reason why it wouldn't work on the Mac?

  • I am no longer able to use a keyboard shortcut to close a window when there is only one window open.

I can use Command+W when there are multiple tabs open to close one window at a time, but not when there is only one window remaining. It's driving me crazy because I have to click on the red dot. It won't close with File > Close either. Nothing changed (that I know of) from last week to this that would cause this. It works fine in safe mode but I can't figure out what's conflicting. Also, I've tried reinstalling Firefox but that did nothing. Help?

Problem solved! It's the Evernote add-on. They updated something on November 6. I've disabled it until that quirk is fixed. Thanks.
