Install Windows 8 on MBPr - screen fail

I am trying to Install Windows 8 on my MBPr via Boot Camp. I get the USB flash drive setup via Boot Camp in OSX, created the partion, reboots and installs files and features. When it gets to "Finishing install" it reboots twice, and then i get to a screen where i can only see 1 quater of the screen - the rest i blacked out - see below image
I tried 4-5 times now, each with the same result. I can see the mouse pointer in the blue area, and move it around - but only in the blue area. The black area is "disabled" in lack of a better word. I tried keeping it there for 6 hours without touching anything, thinking it was perhaps still installing, but nothing changed. In the first couple of install screens, i see everything as i should - meaning 100% of the display is vissible.
I know Boot Camp does not officialy support Windows 8, but i see alot of people who got it running with no major issues - and none like the one i am getting.
Any ideas? I am running the latest version of OSX and version 5.0.1 of Boot Camp (standard on my OSX, did not do anything do upgrade it myself). I tried installing Windows 7 in exactly the same procedure, and that worked as it should.

You already know that Windows 8 is not supported. What else do you need to do? Read the Bootcamp system requirements for Windows 8. If some have got it working it is likely not working 100% or they have different hardware than you or they have tweaked their system/install.

  • T420 Installing Windows XP = blue screen

I am trying to install WinXP 32 on a T420.  It seems to be looking for a SATA driver as once it loads up the setup program, it goes to a blue screen.
I have tried downloading the SATA drivers off the drivers site, but out of the 4 to choose from none (using F6 to use an additional driver)  of them seem to work.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

You could change the SATA mode in BIOS to compatibility mode and then install Windows XP that should prevent the blue screen during install. After Windows is installed download the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Windows XP (32 bit)" (filename 83im15ww.exe) and run this file to extract the driver. After the extraction run "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IRST\PREPARE\install.cmd", then shutdown the computer. Now enter BIOS en re-enable SATA AHCI mode and reboot the computer. If asked for a driver for this device when the computer start point to the directory "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IRST" for the driver. This way should work and give the same result.

  • Satellite 5100-201 Problems Installing Windows XP (Blue Screen)

I got this computer and unfortunatly I do not have access to the cd that came with the computer because my cousin lost them. I tried to install Windows XP Professional that I bought and when the first installation of Windows XP is about to begin i get this blue screen of death message: 0x0000007B (0xF7AFC63C,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
The Computer was working before but but it was extremly slow and the dvd-rom was not recognizable by windows. I tried all the known windows corrections related to missing cd-rom drives but nothing made it work. I can boot from the cd in windows boot cd. and i even updated then bios to 1.90 from 1.60.
Must I have the Toshiba installation CDs? There is no other way to install Windows XP Pro?? Must I use the Toshiba Recovery CD?

I did format it, I got the original recovery cds as well. and those are not working either. You can boot on a cd, it starts windows 98 and then it does not recognise the dvd-rom:S bummer. it says cd-rom not found. I can't understand. if i could update the bios with the cd bios update, boot from cds whats the problem and the OSs' cannot recognise the dvd-rom

  • Can't Install Windows 7, Broken Screen

I need to install Windows 7 due to registry and app problems, and I like 7 more than 8.1 I have created a 7 DVD, but the problem is: I have a cracked internal screen. I can not see anything on my laptop screen except random colors and the crack, so I can not use the BIOS/UEFI. I have not found any way to force the display to my external monitor prior to "Please Wait">Login screen. I have tried around 5 key combinations, I have changed the display setting to "second screen only", I've tried the Detect Monitor thing. There is NOTHING I can find online to fix this, including on Google and YouTube. My model has both an HDMI and a VGA port, but I've never been able to get either of them to display prior to "Please Wait">Login screen. I can not afford to fix my screen right now, and it's not that huge of a priority right now since I can just use an external monitor. Can anyone provide some help? Thanks in advance.
Tried:F5, Fn+F5F4, Fn+F4F12, Fn+F12F2, Fn+F2F10, Fn+F10 Changed display setting to "Second Screen Only" (works during and after "Please Wait">Login screen, never before) Monitor symbol is on F4, for what it's worth. I have tried both holding and repeatedly tapping these key combinations.

    Downloads here.
You can install Windows 7 if you like. But I doubt you'll ever locate enough of the drivers and utilities to make that laptop work as designed. Toshiba certainly did not create them.
If you have no end of time to burn hunting for those and don't mind some features missing, here's how to install Windows 7.  The disk now uses GPT partitioning, but you want the old MBR partitions. So use the installation package to remove all the existing partitions and create new ones (one is sufficient).

  • Installing Windows 8 Black Screen

I am trying to install Windows 8 on my 2011 MBP 15".  I downloaded Windows 8 via DreamSpark and burned it to DVD and also loaded it on a flash drive.  Problem is, when I boot from the flash drive it only boots in EFI mode, which won't work since the disk needs to be GPT and not MBR for me to install it and I do not not want to format my entire disk.
So I try to boot up using the DVD (which I assume is in BIOS mode) and I just get a black screen.  I have burned it twice, once on my Mac and once on a PC. Note: I am using an external DVD drive instead of my internal since my internal is broken.  I don't think this is a problem since it actually reads the DVD as bootable.
Any suggestions? Can I boot the flash drive in BIOS mode? Thanks!

mouse cursor in the middle of the screen, but the start screen with the tiles is not displayed.
Usually it is nVidia users who complain of this.  An explanation would be that you are seeing your secondary monitor display in an Extended display configuration.  When you press Win- etc. it would show on your primary monitor (which you can't
see).  So, press Win-P anyway and imagine that you can see its display.  Then you would press CursorUp, Enter and switch display configurations so you could see something.
only happens from a cold boot.
Then there is a feature in a boot that makes this change.  Try using Win-P again when you can see it to see what the configuration is then.

  • S10-2 Tried to install windows XP and it failed!!!!

    Hi, I am absolutely desperate!
Saturday I got a Lenevo idea pad S10-2 and it had Windows XP in danish, but I don't know the language and I tried to install it in english. I tried to install it using a USB flash drive, but obviously it failed miserably. Now everything is formatted, and it doesn't even book right, it keeps going into that god forsaken installation crap.
I don't have an external usb DVD or money to get one. Please, if anyone knows what I can do, help me. I even have a genuine Windows XP that I'm trying to install and it simply failed. Actually I failed.
    Advice will be much appreciated.
Edit Edit Postname Model number correction

Hi, I have an Ideapad S12 (with Ion platform) and I once had the same problem.
It is very likely that it is your computer's HDD controlling mode that is preventing you from installing WinXP correctly. The default SATA controlling mode for my S12 is "AHCI." When I tried to install XP in the default AHCI mode, I got a blue screen after Windows installer fininished checking my device.  I entered BIOS setup utility and found the "SATA controlling mode" field in the "Configuration" menu. It appeared there are two values for SATA controlling mode, one is the default "AHCI", and the other might be "Compatibility"(I cannot remmember clearly). I changed the value to "Compatibility", saved the changes, restarted the computer,  and then everything is ok. I got XP installed within 20 mins without any problem. Maybe you could be try this.

  • Cannot install windows on my MBPR

    I use MACBOOK PRO (RETINA, 15-INCH, LATE 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9)
I tried to install windows using Boot Camp Assistant. First, i tried to install windows 8.1 but it failed. I tried installing it again but it said that my mbrp only support windows 7 (which is absurd because my roommate uses earlier mbp and he can install windows 8.1). Then, i gave installing windows 8.1 and tried installing windows 7 and it failed again saying something about software update. I checked that i have already updated OS X to the latest update and tried installing windows 7 but it failed again. Any solution? Thank you.

It said "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server".

  • Help me! I get error after install window on bootcamp

I use bootcamp to create usb window 7
But I cannot install window on bootcamp drive
After that, I restart but I get error cannot boot on black screen, help me

You need to select the BOOTCAMP Partition and click on Format. After the Installer formats it from FAT to NTFS, you should be able to install Windows.
These screens from a Mac, which does not have Recovery HD, so the numbering is different.

I am trying to install Windows 7 using Bootcamp Assistence 5.0 on a MacBook Pro Retina OSX 10.8.2, I went through all steps on Creatting the Windows 7.iso into a bootable USB Dirve 16GB I use a separate USB Drive 2 GB and download Windows Support Drivers Step 2 on bootcamp assistence. I run into the problem in step 3 when the computer reboot I just get a black screen the back display still on like I can still see the apple on the back lit up, but the screen is black and wont load the window installer, if i shut it down and bring it back up i get error saying IOS not found so then i have to shut it down, enter recovery and restart on osx partition, i can see that the bootcamp partition was created but cant load windows to it. Please can anybody help me or guide me on what i am doing wrong? thank you so much in advance

this will install as normal. before installing however you will need an activation key cos in win 7 this is one of the first pages that is presented before instalation.
the key from your relative could possibly work especially if he used your internet connection to register. but this could cause problems with his/your authenticity after 30 days.
the only other option is to purchase a key.
you say a 30 day trial, does it give you a temporary key for this?

  • Install Windows 7 on new MBPr from FAT32 formatted USB drive

My colleague gave me a USB drive with legit Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit as ISO file on it (plus a folder containing Windows software to be installed afterwards.
I have partitioned the MBPr's SSD 50/50 with disk utility: one OSX partition, one MS-DOS FAT32.
When I reboot and select the USB drive to install, I get a black screen with a message on top "booting from Boot Camp Assistant created USB drive ... Failed to load BOOTMGR".
This happens trying both left and right USB ports.
Reason why I partitioned 50/50 "manually" with disk utility was that Boot Camp-Assistant did not give me an option to install from the USB after it downloaded drivers to that USB (these drivers ended up in a folder called WindowsSupport). It always asked me to insert a DVD which of course can't work on the MBPr.
    Any hints much appreciated!

You must use Bootcamp Assistant to install Windows in a Bootcamp partition. Return your hard drive to a single OSx partition then start again following the Bootcamp Installation and Help guides.

  • Failing to install windows 8.1/7/ any kind of windows on my imac, seeking help foreal

Hey there. It's going to be a long post since I've messed with it for 4 days, and still no success even in the time I'm currently writing this message - the furthest I got is having tons of crashes and black screens. And now I can't even reclaim my lost harddrive space (resizing partitions doesn't work anymore).
I'll start with that I already tried to make Bootcamp work about a year ago, but then quit it out of no success and reverted all the changes. But this time my situation is different - I'm pretty sure something messed up in the middle and now I'm seeking help and answers to my questions. And here we go - one bright day I decided to install Windows 8.1 as a secondary boot system on my iMac for personal reasons. I went and added Bootcamp's ability to make a bootable USB on my mac by changing the plist file, and finally had the option to do so. Then got an ISO of Windows 8.1's installation, burned it to a DVD with disk utility (on the lowest speed) and here's already where my problems started. The disk failed to burn for some unknown reason, even though when I compared the contents it had the exactly same thing in both the ISO and the DVD. Weird isn't it? I still tried to boot it - and guess what? the DVD booted but it had the non-EFI interface (huge and pixelated). Anyway when I pressed next I had some weird driver errors, so I decided to use an USB instead (1 DVD wasted so far). I used Bootcamp to create a bootable USB with drivers and went to boot it. The USB booted perfectly fine under the name "EFI Boot" and then I reached the partitions screen.. Obviously I had weird errors again (GPT/MBR stuff). One tutorial on the web suggested creating a partition for the windows rather than using the Bootcamp pre-made one. I followed it by booting my main system, and using disk utility to delete the Bootcamp partition. Later on I booted again to the installation and created a new partition from the partitions screen. Windows created two partitions - a Microsoft reserved partition, and the secondary partition which is used for the windows files. After some time the windows finally booted for the first time. It took pretty long but went smooth - until it finally booted. Since here the problems returned - the Windows crashed every 5 minutes from a driver error (that's AFTER I installed the Apple drivers right after the system finished booting), I googled it and followed various tuts but it still wasn't fixed. I decided to quit using 8 since I liked 7 more anyway (I currently have it installed as a virtual system in Parallels), so I decided to install 7 instead of 8 since I never had any issues with it. Booted up my main system again - went to Bootcamp Assistant, USB creation. ISO file + drivers on the USB. I reboot. Holding ALT and... my mac can't even see the USB drive! Luckily I had 4 more installations (various ISOs) of Win 7, so I decided to try them. I tried ALL the Installations I in none of them my mac could see the USB drive (I wonder how my USB survived all this rewriting on it...) Again to Google we go. I researched a bit and realized that I'm missing a file called xboot64.efi in the "efi/boot" folder, which can be taken from windows. I tried extracting it from install.wim but none of my archiving apps could open it (I tried Unarchiver, Keka, 7zX, terminal's unrar command and more, none could!). I also realized my Win 8 installation had this file so I added it to the Win 7 USB. Now my mac could see the USB in the boot screen - and it booted. I saw the "loading files" screen, and after one minute of it... black screen. I waited 10 minutes. Then 30. An hour. Still a pure black screen. I thought something is wrong with my file, and read that this file is also found in an already installed Win 7, so I went to parallels and took it from here, then added it to my installation. Again my mac could see the USB, but still no luck. When I pressed enter to boot from it, nothing happened as if the boot screen was stuck - the drive was selected but it didn't do anything. I waited long time again and decided to stop waiting. I tried to burn another DVD, this time with Titanium Toast. Again the DVD failed to burn, and when I checked the content, it was the same as the ISO I tried to burn from (official ISO from Microsoft of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1). I went and booted it - this time I saw again "Windows" and "EFI Boot"in the boot screen, both with a disc icon. "EFI Boot" didn't load like the usb previously (loads forever), so I booted the "Windows" thing. The setup loaded, and finally I could see the installation window. Reached the partitions screen... and here the problems returned once again. An error along the lines of that Windows can't be installed on a GPT partition. Some tuts on YouTube and in Google suggested to simply format the problematic partition. And so I did - yet the problem wasn't fixed. After messing with all that for one more day - trying different installations, ways to boot the USB and DVDs, formatting the Windows partition etc, I decided it's time to stop messing with it since luck definitely isn't in my side when it comes to Bootcamp (and for the record, I never had any issues with OSX, but when I tried adding windows to it.. eh, you can guess.) I booted back to my normal system, and went to disk utility to delete the partitions. The Windows partition was deleted easily, but the Microsoft reserved one.. not so quite. (by the way when I boot into it I get a Win 8.1 error screen that tells me to repair the system, since I formatted the Win partition itself). Until this very moment I still can't delete the reserved partition and return my beloved 30gb that I lost because of the resizing (I can't resize my Mac HD partition).
I'm really desperate now. I tried everything and the furthest I got is getting a broken Windows 8.1 (which I deleted later), destroying 5 DVDs, shortening the lifespan of my USB drive, and googling errors the whole day for 4 days in a row. And now I can't even return my lost 30gb even after I decided to quit it. Please help or suggest me what to do, whether it's about how to successfully install Win 7 or to return my lost gigabytes, any kind of help is appreciated. If you managed to read so far, thank you for reading my post and I hope you'll be able to assist me and get me out of this situation.

Read the Boot Camp Help first. Boot Camp does not yet support Windows 8.1 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirements. If you insist on installing 8.1 use a virtual machine like parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox.

  • Mac gets blue screen while installing Windows 7 with bootcamp

I had a problem while trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my MacBook mid-2010.  When i would create the partition using bootcamp assistant and my computer restarted into the install process, i would get a blue screen.  The blue screen would occur after my computer restarted and was completing the installation.  If I try to reboot the machine, it gives me an error "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.  Windows installation cannot proceed.  To install Windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."  I first tried this on yosemite, but when it was not working I tried wiping the hard drive and i installed mavericks.  I got the same problem, so it does not have to do with the OS.  I have installed Windows 7 32-bit on this computer before.  But i still get the same error with 32-bit also.  I know that this computer supports windows 7 and 64-bit too.  If anyone know why this might be happening and how i can fix it, please let me know.  Thank you.

It is good to see that it is indeed a USB2.
The support software on the USB is used in the Pre-boot environment setup and provides drivers for Apple specific hardware, GPU, BT, Mouse, etc. You can verify that by looking at the USB contents. The DVD contains generic drivers when hardware is not recognized as defaults to use. Apple does enough 'secret sauce' to make them different. The following does not explicitly state the USB2 need when using the DVD Installer and mentions W8 (not W7).
From Boot Camp: Creating an ISO image from a Windows installation DVD - Apple Support
Insert a blank USB 2 flash drive that is a least 16GB in size into a USB port on the computer. Boot Camp Assistant uses this drive to store the Windows 8 install media and support drivers during installation of Windows.
Note: This flash drive needs to be formatted for the FAT32 file system and must use the Master Boot Record partitioning scheme. Use Disk Utility to check the format of the flash drive before proceeding, and partition or erase the flash drive if necessary.

  • Cannot install windows 7 using boot camp because screen turns off?

    I have a late 2008 Macboook Pro 15 inch
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9
After partition is complete through boot camp my mac restarts to instal Windows 7
The disk can be heard booting up but my screen is turned off.
After a min or so the keyboard goes active but screen remains off.
The disk is a store bought copy of windows 7
I have tried different installers and the same thing occurs the screen just turns off. You can hear the computer running but cannot see anything or do anything.
Have to hold down the power button to restart.
I tried booting it through a bootable usb same thing occurs.
Tried dowloadin drivers and putting them on MBRFAT usb like recomended for iMacs with a similar porblem. That Failed too.
Tried connecting a different monitor it didnt work.
So I am stumped has anyone had this problem. Not the black screen the screen being tuned off.
Ive been searching for days and havent found an answer realting to MBP.

Hold the option while turning on the computer. You should see your statup drives. Just choose the OS X drive and eject your disc once in OS X.

  • I5 17''MBP  gets blue screen during install windows 7 32 bit

    Hello all:
I heard that quite many people get classic windows' "blue screen" during using windows , whatever Windows XP, Vista or 7. But now i face the "blue screen" during install Windows 7, which means I even can not complete installation.
I bought my Macbook Pro i5 17'' one month ago, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 but I face the problem during the installation. After finishing first 4 steps the computer would restart and start to "finish installation", but at this time it gets "blue screen" and shows "error: 0x0000009c" and stuck there. I have to shut down the turn off button and interrupt the installation.
I don't know if there's any one else face this unlucky situation. I searched on the net and it says the problem could be from memory, graphic card (too new), or even overlocking the cpu, whatever it must be the problem of hardware. I thought it might be the problem of compatible.
If anyone knows how to deal with this problem??!! I do need to use some software under Windows system!
