Install Windows 8 Release Preview on imac

any body install Windows 8 Release Preview on imac?

Q: Do you have the CP installed now?
If yes, then the Setup program will walk you through and download, move Windows to Windows.old (so you need about 40GB free space at least to accomplish, an 80GB partition) and no need to burn ISO (handy to have).
When all is said and done, be sure to clean up disk and remove windows.old and install.esd package and installer package which take up 20GB + 6GB + 2GB.
Not on iMac. I'd say it went smoothly though.

    You require Windows 7.
Windows 7 is the same and will run the same as it would on a Windows computer. All programs that run on a windows computer will run on your Windows once installed. You will need anti virus software for your Windows partition. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and it works well.
Read the help files before installing http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/.

  • Can i install windows 7 on my iMac 2012 using a external drive

Can i install windows 7 on my imac 2012 using a external cd drive ?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have a Late 2012 iMac (without a built-in SuperDrive), you can use a USB drive to install Windows with Boot Camp and you shouldn't have any problem

  • How would I install Windows 7 on an iMac without a CD slot?

How would I go about installing Windows 7 on an iMac lacking a CD slot?
This might be quite obvious...but I have been searching the internet to no avail for an hour now, so I would appreciate help from all you kind folks in the Apple community.
    Thanks in advance!

You can install Windows starting from a thumb drive with Windows 7 (you can create it on Boot Camp Assistant if you have the .iso of Windows) or buy the USB SuperDrive

  • Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work

Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work, I have tried booting with Snow Leopard disc in and nothing works. I had trouble from the start but now nothing works except Windows 7, sound wont work etc. etc.

I originally tried installing Widows 7 so I could run my Flight Simulator X on the IMac I got from my daughter and I used BootCamp and had partitioned it at about 4GB for windows and the first thing I got was I had to put a bootable disc in and neither the windows 7 or Snow Leopard would work. Then I got Windows 7 to work but I can't get Snow Leopard to run, when I put the disc in it says that it not supported. Of course windows wont show me anyother areas of the disc that I could try to get to, the other side of the partition I guess. I have tried holding the C key down on reboot and that doesn't work. I hope this gives you a little more insight as to what is going on. Thanks Bill

  • HT1455 I tried to install windows 7 on my imac but the computer was not booting again what shall I do?

I was installing windows 7 on my imac but the installation was not completed and now I cannot boot what shall I do?

Provided you used BootCamp to do the installation, with your machine off, press and hold down the "Option" key while turning it on.  Hold the key down until you get the screen where you can select which OS to boot into.  Select OS X (you'll need to physically click the button here... tapping won't work if you have it enabled).  Once in OS X, go into System Preferences and Startup Disk.  This is where you set the default OS to boot into.  Change it to OS X.  Relaunch BootCamp Assistant to remove the failed installation of Windows.  You can try again if you wish.

    Thanks

If your system is Core2Duo or better, use 64-bit.  32-bit only sees 3.5 GB RAM max.  64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max, and 64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max.

  • According to the apple website I need to upgrade Boot camp 3.0 to at least 3.1 in order to install Windows 7 on my iMac currently running Snow Leopard. I download the 3.1 version but it is only a text file and there doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade

In order to install Windows 7 on my iMac I need to upgrade bootcamp to at least 3.1  I currently have 3.0.4 After downloading from the website there is no way to install it - it is just a text file? What should I do?

You have to start with 3.0, which is on the OSX disc that came wih your Mac.

    Can someone help me out?
    Thank you

To my knowledge there are no official MS Windows DVDs that contain both the 32 and 64 bit versions. There is a way to make a USB thumb drive that has both bit version on it but AFAIK this can't be done on a DVD disc even with a Dual Layer DVD disc.
For the Windows installer to function, actually boot the system to the install routine, certain files have to be on a certain area of the DVD disc. If by chance you really do have a DVD disc that contains both bit versions your Mac is only seeing the 32bit version on that disc.
You'll need to get a Real MS DVD of just the 64bit version or download the 64bit version ISO from My Digital Life and burn it to a DVD disc.

So you're saying there is no solution for this?
Thank you so much for your response.

  • HT3986 Where I have to download ISO-Image to install Windows 7 at my iMac 27-inch?

helo, I would like to install Windows 7 at my iMac, 27-inch.
I've got a message that I should have ISO-Image. Is that right?
Where I have to download ISO-Image?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

to install windows you need to buy windows
there are many programs for making windows if on a disc into an iso
if you do not have an optical drive and windows on a disc then you likely have to use another computer to make it into an iso

  • Trouble Installing Windows XP on my iMac

I recently made the switch from a PC to a Mac, however I then found out after I got rid of my PC that I would need it for school. Anyway, I used Boot Camp to install Windows XP onto my iMac, but then when I got to the part where I was prompted to select a partition, I did not know which to choose! I cancelled the installation process and restarted my computer and looked up the support guide for using Boot Camp.
However, now that I know which partition to choose, I can't get Windows to start installing again! I choose Windows on the Boot Camp Assistant and it reads the disc and goes to the black screen, but all I see is a "_" blinking.
If anyone has any ideas as to what to do for this, please let me know!

I used Boot Camp to install Windows XP
You should then post your question in the Boot Camp forums:

  • Failed to install Windows Vista SP2 on iMac

I was trying to install Windows Vista on my iMac. In fact, I have successfully installed before but I deleted it because something wrong with it. However, the second time I installed was failed (Stuck at "Completing Installation") I tried 4 times and they were all the same. But the weirdest thing was I could install Windows Vista through Parallels Desktop. (but can't install it through boot camp)
I just thought of one problem
-I plugged in an external hard disk
    Would it be the problem?
Is there any method that can solve this problem?

    Hi,
I just thought of one problem
-I plugged in an external hard disk
    Would it be the problem?
It is most likely the cause of your problem.
During installation of Vista (and personally I do this with OSX system upgrades as well) it is advisable to disconnect all non-essential external devices, leaving only mouse, keyboard and, if neccessary, display connected.
SO, disconnected your external HD, use the BootCamp Assistant to revert the partitioning back to a single-OSX volume and start again.
After reverting back you should restart your Mac.
    Hope it helps
