Install windows on new SSD

I own the HP Pavillion P7 1449, and I just finished installing a new SSD drive. I am currently running windows 8, and I want to now use the SSD as my boot drive. My computer did not come with a windows product key, and I don't believe I was given a windows installation disk, do I have to buy a new key to install windows onto the new drive?, or can I use the key which is on the motherboard?

Cant install windows on new ssd

Hi, Im new in this forum, so sorry for my bad english
I have a problem which is killing me... today I bought new Transcend SSD370 256GB hard drive. I write windows 8 to bootable usb drive. When I launched setup, choosed custom installation, then it shows just one drive with unallocated space almost 256gb, when I try to push button next for instalation I get error "we couldnt install windows in the location you choose. please check your media drive. 0x80300024 ." then I tried to creat new partition but got error " we couldnt create partition". I tried google fix for this, I tried use cmd and diskpart comands to do clean on disk 0 , but got error " diskpart has encoutered an error: the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error". intresting thing that I put this SSD to other laptop (asus) and after 5minutes windows was fresh installed... and then when I put SSD with windows that was installed on other laptop I got error that disk is unreadable or some disk error and suggestion to do ctrl alt del for reboot... both laptops ar on ACHI and UEFI is disabled... I dont know what to do next.... Im so depressed... any ideas how to install windows?

ok, yesterday I tried somthink... first I tried install ubuntu on ssd and its worked, ubuntu worked fine. So then I tried again to install windows, I run setup, it showed me 3 partitions that ubuntu made, so I delete them and just pressed next with unallocated disk and boom it showed me istallation progress... but stuck on first step of copying files at 0%... so no windwos... I waited for like 20mins then pressed cancel, it gave me next screen that installation canceled and I was unable to turn off setup... so I just powered off laptop. and then... I cant connect my SSD, my laptop was unable to start at all with that SSD, when I connect it with usb adapter it just stuck at recognizing it, I cant to format it nothing, its like SSD is bricked... I tried again install ubuntu on ssd but installation gave me input output error, so yeah.... now I think its just left to me bring it to the warranty... ;(

How to install windows on the SSD (Y580)

I have bought an Y580 recently wIth a 64GB SSD and 1TB HDD. I asked the salesperson upfront if the OS would be on the SSD. He said yes. Turns out that it is not. When i returned to them they told me it's a hybrid drive solution. And they have no idea how to install Windows on the SSD.
I did some research and found out that Lenovo uses *Rapiddrive* to speed up programs. Hence why i can't see the SSD in WIndows as it is merged with the 1TB HDD. In Disk management 2 disks show , 0 and 1 , but Windows asks to give disk 1 a MBR or GPT (this is apparantly due to the rapiddrive methode).
My questions:
* Is it possible to install Windows on the SSD and if so how can that be done without loosing the backup on the hidden partition of the 1TB disk? (so that OKR still works)
* What are the benefits of Rapiddrive over using the SSD as bootdisk?

Since it is a hybrid drive, it works a little bit differently; Lenovo's "Rapiddrive" is also different from other hybrids, and in the sake of making it "user friendly" and seen as a single disc they have probably nerfed some configurability for the intermediate/advanced users. However, Windows should already be installed on the SSD portion of the drive, this should be done automatically according to this press release:

I have some of the fastest SSD's around installed on my desktops (SATA III), and while they are blazing fast, keep in mind the whole boot sequence still isn't going to be instantaneous even with an SSD (the biggest differennce you will notice is by the time Windows is loaded, it's fully loaded to the RAM, whereas a normal HDD you may see the desktop but your PC will still be cranking away with startup processes). If your startup is taking 30 seconds or less, maybe even a little longer, it's probably accessing the SSD just fine; if it's taking closer to 60 seconds, then yeah it may need to be reinstalled/reconfigured.
As for reinstalling, sorry I won't really be able to help, hopefully someone else can come along; I personally have never used OKR anyways, and aside from doing a ghost backup I wouldn't say for sure that OKR would be salvageable with a fresh install. And because the Rapiddrive is its own technology, half SATA half PCI-E, I also couldn't tell you if it's even possible to fully seperate the two and keep them as distinct drives.

Clean Install Yosemite onto new SSD (Also, what is TRIM?)

I've been researching how to replace the Hard Drive on my Late 2011 13inch Macbook Pro (MacBookPro8,1 / 2.4 GHz / Intel Core i5 / SATA III) with a new SSD (maybe a Samsung 840 EVO) and clean install Yosemite onto it. I've found a few ways to do this on the support forums and the macrumors forum, but I want to confirm if I can do it this way:
1. Plug new SSD into the Macbook via a USB cable
2. Download Yosemite onto current Macbook Hard Drive. When I'm prompted to install, chose the new SSD from the list. Complete Installation.
3. Remove old Hard Drive from Macbook and plug new SSD in it's place (and not in the optical bay).
Would this work? I have another external hard drive with all of my documents, pictures and music on which I'm just going to manually remove over, and have no problem doing. I can also download the iLife programs directly from the App Store so I wouldn't be missing out on those either (I do have the iLife '09 discs too). I've also read about creating a bootable USB using DiskMaker X, but I feel the route I outlined would be easier.
Am I missing anything? I do have the EFI Firmware v2.7, so the problems the 2011 MacBooks were having with SATA shouldn't be an issue during this. Also, during my research, I found a references to something called TRIM. Can someone explain TRIM to me?

Thanks for the response and confirming I can clean install Yosemite onto a new SSD using the process I listed in my initial post.
I have a 13'' MacBook Pro with Yosemite already installed onto it so my graphics card should be set. After almost a month of using it, I haven't noticed any issues on that end.
I guess this TRIM thing is a totally separate subject from this thread. I read Apple is no longer supporting third-party SSD for TRIM support. If you turn it on, but keep a security feature on, you risk your computer not booting correctly. It looks like the only way to have TRIM enabled on a SSD using Yosemite is to have an Apple supplied SSD, or an SSD that can trick Yosemite into thinking it's Apple supplied (like the Angelbird Wrk for Mac SSD).
I've also done a good amount of research that TRIM is only necessary if you're saving a lot of items to the hard drive in one sitting (like photoshop). I primarily use my Mac for Pages (which saves my documents into the cloud now), iTunes and Safari. I guess this would fit me into the "casual user' criteria? I've also read that if you don't use TRIM, your SSD uses "Garbage Collection" (which actually sounds terrible) to keep the SSD informed on what data can be overwritten since it's been deleted by the user. I read that most modern SSD hard drives have a pretty decent Garbage Collection function, so if you leave your computer idle, keep "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" unchecked, the SSD will run Garbage Collection on it's own and that should be sufficient enough to keep the SSD in good working order.

Windows cannot install required files error while installing on brand new SSD

Recently I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 15R with SSD and wanted to install Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit on it. I downloaded the windows from Dreamspark with Secure download manager. I made a bootable USB stick twice with
Windows USB/DVD Download tool, booted the windows setup, formatted the ssd and tried to install when i got this error. As I recall the error code was something like this "error 0x80070570". Any advice how to overcome
this problem?

I would rebuild your USB install drive, you might have ended up with some corrupted files. Was this computer shipped with Win 8? if not then you'll need to set up your USB to boot UEFI, IE is has to be formatted fat 32, then on boot up hit which ever key
on your computer that brings up a boot menu select you UEFI USB drive

Installing Windows 7 on SSD

I have a problem with my HP Pavilion Elite HPE - 555sc. I`m trying to install windows 7 on the SSD through recovery disks I ordered from the HP support page. This dosen`t work to the SSD, so i tried doing it to my HDD last night. When the install is done, it does not boot the OS, i just start up with a crash message that there is something wrong with windows, and I should try to choose fix my computer in one of the options in the recovery disk, but I only got the choice installing it again. Tried that, and got the same error.
I have also tried to reinstall to the SSD, by using a different recovery disk. I downloaded and iso. file from microsoft and createt the disk my self, but this version does not support the cd-key I have for my windows. But the biggest problem is that after the install, there seems to be something wrong with the system in general, first of all I don`t have the right drivers installed, which should be an easy fix, after downloading and installing the right ones (Yes I have tried all of them) and restart, the mouse clicker is only active if I press icons on the desktop, but I can`t for example close the page with the mouse nor can I click on the start button. ( I have also tried two other mouses) The keyboard seems to work ok but I there is a few issues with it, but eventually it works.
Is it possible to install the recovery (using f11) to my SSD? I haven`t tried this yet, because I`m not sure it works, and if I now have installed win 7 on the SSD (the one that can not be activated because of the key) Will that effect the recovery if I have to do it to the HDD? And last could there be something other that is wrong? So reinstall dosen`t work at all?

The best situation for you is to get your computer to work with the System Recovery disks. Finding the drivers is possible, but not always easy when installing a full version of Windows.
Before going any farther, I suggest that you run the SMART test from the BIOS. This will tell you if your heard drive is working properly.
Here is the System Recovery / Backup / Restore page for the computer. There are a lot of guides to help you.
If the above guides don't help, here is a guide to help you format the hard drive if you use Option 2. Read it thoroughly. This will be like starting with a new hard drive. Once the drive is formatted, you can install Disk 1 of the Recovery disks and reboot.

Upgraded hardware, and went from XP to Win7 - how do I transfer/install CS5 onto new SSD hard drive?

I recently upgraded all my computer internals; new mobo, Samsung SSD (solid state drive), CPU and ram. Also went from XP Pro to Win 7 Pro, with Win 7 Pro now residing on the new solid state drive. I still have the old 1TB Serial ATA hard drive connected as a storage device, and this is where CS5 resides. But of course, my CS5 applications are now unusable.
Can someone please give me some guidance as to how to transfer the CS5 installation from the old HD (XP Pro) to the new SSD (Win 7 Pro)? I started doing some research, and read about first "deactivating" CS5, but I cannot open any of my CS5 applications to "deactivate". So I am stumped. I am reticent to attempt a new install from my CS5 disks until I learn the proper process..........
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Installing ML on new ssd

Hi,
I just got a new Mac Pro and an SSD drive. I would like to install ML on the Ssd and use it as a startup disk. I have not fired up the Mac Pro yet. I have a bootable ML USB drive. My question is about the order of how to do things. Is there a way to start up with the USB and format and install ML on the ssd without ever booting with the HDD?

Install the SSD. Boot the computer from the USB drive:
Boot Using OPTION key:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
4. Select the USB drive.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select SSD (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the SSD.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Installing Windows 7 - New Mac Mini no Optical Drive

I would like to install a Windows 7 on a new 2011 no optical disk mini.
I am aware of how to do that, and what do I need to prepare, becouse there is not a optical disk in a mini.
Any ideas on if I can buy (download) a Windows 7 from www.microsoft.com and how to installed a downloaded package of Windows 7?

Is there are way to install Windowx XP SP2 from CD (wireless shared cd from other computer)

I think your best option is either buy an external dvd drive or if you have access to another Mac that does have a dvd drive, boot it into firewire disc mode (restart holding down the F key until you see a FireWire logo), using the appropriate firewire cable (depends on what kind of firewire connections the Macs have, 400 to 800 or 800 to 800) connect the two Macs together and the Mini will see the drives of the Mac booted into FireWire disc mode. Insert dvd and go about installing Windows...
On another note, I think Lion's version of BootCamp requires Windows 7 to install. If you already have Windows setup on a Mac with SnowLeopard and upgrade then it will work as normal, something to do with installing requires Windows 7.

Fatal hard drive crash - how do I install windows on new Hd?

So my lenovo twist hd completely crashed today, and I can't boot or do anything. He is making clicking noises. Bought a new SSD, but how do I get Windows back on my machine? It's not like we get an installation CD anymore. And no win 8 key sticker.
I don't want to pay for win 8 since I have already paid once. I'm out of warranty.

How can i install windows on new macbook air using remote drive on the bootcamp partition

Hi all, I just purchased a new macbook air mid - 2011 with OSX-Lion installed on it. I wish to install Windows XP on the boot camp partition but have not purchased the external super drive. Is there some way that I can install windows on boot camp using remote drive of my other macbook pro system.

The MacBook Air has never had an internal superdrive, Apple provides a download driver thru Boot Camp Assistant in additon to Windows Support Software, for USB-DVD.

I recently bought a SSD to improve performance a little, I of course want to install Windows onto this.
The problem is that while the laptop recognises that the SSD is there, it only tries to boot from it, which it can't of course because it is blank.
Says 'Checking Media [fail]' and then 'No Bootable Devices Found.'
I've gone to the boot menu and tried booting from CD and USB, neither option works and the system again tries to boot from the blank SSD.
I've set both the DVD drive and the USB as first boot devices. Again neither of them work and you guessed it, the system tries to boot from the blank device.
What am I missing? There has to be a way to get the system to boot something other than the blank SSD.

I was trying to reinstalling Windows 8 as it happened though, from the disc I'd burned after buying it for 24.99 at launch. I wanted Windows 8 from that because I hate the extra tat that Toshiba installed. That rubbish comes over to my desktop as well because of synch.

Install Windows to new Hard drive from USB system backup

I have bought a new 1TB hard drive for my G580 and have created a USB system recovery drive using Windows 8.1's system restore functionality but when I swap the drives out and try to reset the PC to factory setting settings it fails by saying a partition can't be found. I've formatted partitioned and formatted the new drive but to no avail.
Any ideas?

Problems installing windows on new retina macbook pro

Hi i am having problems installing windows on the latest retina macbook pro, I end up getting an error , cant install windows on this GPT partition style. I have tried booting into windows , and EFI, but it all ends up with the same error. Please HELP.

Did you use Boot Camp Assistant to partition the drive? If you want both Windows and Mac OS X on your Mac that is what you have to do.
If you only want Windows then you can install it by itself but you have to delete all partitions on the drive and format it NTSF from inside the Windows installer or a third party Disk Management/Partitioning/Formatting program.
