Install Yosemite before or after HDD Upgrade

My MBP (Model A1229) is the earliest that will run Yosemite. I had Yosemite running but found my overall Internet experience just too slow. Even after downgrading to Mavericks I wasn't content with the snap of my machine. On further notice, I found everything was dog slow, finder, opening apps, etc. I did all the optimizing at my disposal, primarily repairing permissions, hard drive repair and running Disk Warrior, but even so things are just sluggish. I found my Install Disks and ran AHT and had a few errors, among them was one for the hard drive. This is the original hard drive that came with this machine so must be getting real tire. I've noticed the hard drive is constantly 'ratcheting', sometimes for minutes - wondering if this is a sign of an ailing hard drive.
So, I intend to replace the drive which I have on constant Time Machine back up and wonder now if I should drop Yosemite on before I upgrade the drive, or wait and install fresh on the new drive?
Would it make any difference? Any thoughts?

The things that I would suggest that might work is to make sure that you have the updated version of Yosemite. When this was posted you said you have OS X Yosemite 10.10.... The version I have is 10.10.2 so there might be an update. Also you could call apple at 1-800MYAPPLE if you have purchased the applecare protection plan. Also you might wanna take it into the apple store near you.

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
I have tried these:
1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
Thoughts and suggestions?

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not booting in your Lenovo G560 laptop.
As you have mentioned that the system not booting, please try to remove the RAM and turn on the system and check if you can hear any beep sound. Also try to clean the RAM slots and check for the issue.

I would get Pages, if it is word processing AW documents, and try to open them without changing the system back to Snow Leopard. You could have Snow Leopar d on an externalhard drive if you really need to have Rosetta and AW.

Cannot install recovery image on my Equium after HDD upgrade

Hi
I just installed a new hard drive to my Toshiba Equium laptop I contacted Toshiba who informed me I could fit up to 1TB I opted for half way with a 500GB.
After installing the drive I inserted recovery disk after a while it had loaded with the message operation completed successfully. Next message windows set up could not configure windows to run on this computers hard ware. Then windows could not complete the installation to install windows on this computer restart the installation...
At the end of the recovery process a message tells me to remove recovery disk and exit as soon as I exit laptop shuts down and doesnt re boot automatically. When restarted next message windows Vista is starting for the first time then the cycle starts again. I have tried to reload recovery several times as instructed but no good.
Any help much appreciated

I dont know which notebook model do you have but if recovery image is Vista it must be pretty old model, maybe Equium A200.
To be honest I didn't make experiments with HDD upgrade on older models but I can imagine recovery image make a problems with HDDs with huge capacity.
Post please model name and which HDD have you inside now.
By the way: if possible try to install Win7 using Microsoft installation disc. Im sure it will works without any problem.

How do I install Yosemite on a 2nd HDD I have added and have the Mac Pro boot from the new HDD?

My MacPro's HD seems to be failing. None of the tests I run indicate that, but I get constant spinning balls and everything takes a long time. I bought a 2nd HDD and installed it in the 2nd bayou my Early 2009 Mac Pro. I formatted it and want to install Yosemite and have the Mac boot off the new drive. It is currently running OS X 10.9.5. When I go to update to Yosemite it begins to download. Will it give me the option of which drive to install on? Or will it just upgrade the original Mac's HD?

Move data to a 'data and media library" drive.
Use CCC to skip the user data folders except ~/Library and clone to SSD
And might want to save the installer .ESD package for use as clean installer and to be able to boot from.

I rather make a fresh install on another drive I have already prepared and migrate my files later as the apps are ready and frankly I want to get rid of a lot of junk before I go to a new system. Install trackpad before or after Lion?

I am running 10.6.8 on my old MacBook. I know that Lion will run okay on the MacBook (checked specs). I just bought a Magic Trackpad so Lion gestures will work on the MacBook. Should I install the Magic Trackpad before or after I install Lion or doesn't it matter? For the record I tried search but I am still confused.

IPhoto Crashing After HDD upgrade

I have MBP 2010
Model Name:          MacBook Pro
Model Identifier:          MacBookPro7,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:          2.4 GHz
   HDD: 256GB Hitachi
OS: Snow Leoperd 10.6.8
Recently I purchased WD Scorpio 750GB, 7500RPM Hard disk. Upgraded the internal hard disk with the new one after cloning etc...
First week i observed system was little slow & beachballs.
Second week Google Chrome crashed. iPhoto Started crashing as well, but it was opening when i tried reopening, Crash report said some thing like this.
Thrid week, iPhoto Stopped opening on retries also, and it was continuously crashing all the time.
So i thought of restoring from the old time machine backup!, This process went well till 17%, but it stopped all of sudden with some reason (I could not collect it bcoz it was fast).
Then when i checked the hard disk in disk utility, it clearly mentioned that the "SMART Status as Failing" & suggested me to take backup as much as possible.
Now I replaced the new HDD with old 250GB hard disk and everything went well.
After this i connected the Scorpio HDD to Windows 7 via a USB enclosure & used "WD Data Life Guard software" to see the SMART Status as Failed.
One attribute was failing: Realloaction sector count was 133 and it marked as failed.
Now i Would like to know what might have gone wrong.
I have already gone through various discussions in this forum reporting the scorpio 750GB with issues on MBP
I have already filed the replacement order for the Failed Scorpio HDD, But before planning the next step, I would like to get the clear unserstanding
1. Why this issue happens and what can be done,
2. Can I use 1TB Blue instead of Scorpio Black
3. Do i need to downgrade the EFI to 1.6?
Note: Actual replacement of the HDD was done by Apple care experts to avoid Static Power harming the internals of HDD or MBP, so on that side we are safe.

I am currently on a grandfathered unlimited data plan on my own. On this plan, I am eligible for my 2 year phone upgrade and I would like to get an iPhone5. I am also planning on transferring to onto a shared plan with my fiance in the near future (she is also currently on a grandfathered unlimited data plan).
I have a few questions around this situation:
-Should I upgrade my phone now and then transfer the assumption of liability to her after, or should I transfer into her account and THEN upgrade to the new phone?
-Will I retain unlimited data if I transfer assumption of liability to her and add myself as a line on her account?
-Will I need to pay a cancellation fee to my current account if I add myself as a line to her account?
If anyone can help me not senselessly throw away money, it would be much appreciated!

Applications not longer install on UDI Deployment after R2 upgrade

Seem to have an issue here. In 2012 SP1, my task sequences were working great, and UDI was installing all the selected applications.
After the R2 upgrade, I re-built my task sequences and boot images, but now the OSD sequence doesn't install the selected application from the UDI wizard. They show up in ZTICoalesce.log and in BDD.log, but when you go to AppDiscovery.log, the applications

Can't seem to figure out why this is happening - I even created a new MDT package and task sequence, and the issue still shows up.

Have you upgraded MDT to 2013 (as this is the only version of MDT supported in CM12R2)?

Install bootcamp before or after installing lion

I'm currently on 10.4.6 (snow leopard) and want to install bootcamp to run windows. I've made a bootable clone with ccc to an external hd. I also want to update to lion. What should i do first:
a) make the partition in my hd and install bootcamp
b) install lion and re-ccc my hd to an external hd

If you're going to be installing Windows XP or Vista, you must do so before upgrading to Lion. If not, do it afterwards.

After installing Yosemite, cannot login after wake from sleep mode

After upgrading to Yosemite this morning, I've had the problem that after the computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot log back in to use the computer because I can't enter my user password. The screen looks fine after I press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse (I see the users and where I would type my password), but mouse clicks do not allow me to activate the password box (however, I do see the mouse pointer and can move it), and any buttons pressed on the keyboard have no effect. If I shut the computer down, I can login without problem. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? I'd hate to have to turn the computer off every time I step away for 10 minutes...

How to restore from time machine after HDD upgrade on macbook pro?

I have recently bought a WD 2.5 inch SATA 750GB 7200RPM 16GB HDD and plan to use it on my macbook pro 13 inch 2.4ghz early 2011. I will leave the pysical installation part to Apple Service. I have my Time Machine backup on an external hard disk. So, once I get the upgraded macbook, what are the steps I should follow for a complete Time Machine restore? (Including the formatting on the new HDD).
One more question; when I transfer my applications to the new HDD will Time Machine "remember" their activation codes and license information ?

Installing Aperture - Before or After Installing PS CS3?

Hi Guys,
I'm about to do a complete reinstall of my system and I was wondering which app to install first:
1) Aperture or
2) Photoshop CS3
Any advantages / disadvantages?
Previously, I had Aperture first, then Photoshop, but then it turned out that Photoshop was setup as the default application for RAW images. (meaning when I double clicked a RAW file on the desktop, it would open PS instead of Aperture) Would that change when I switched the installation order?
What would you recommend?

Doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

Remember, Aperture cannot "Open" images. Aperture is a database and images have to be imported to Aperture before it can see, read or be aware of them. You cannot set Aperture as a Default App to open images.
In any event you can change the default app with the Get Info window in the Finder. Takes a couple of seconds.
