Installation 11g
Gentlemen/women:
I have successfully installed Oracle 11G on my new HP Vista machine.
There are a couple of items which are not appropriately covered in the installation documents found on the OTN site.
The document I used was “Installing Oracle Database 11g on Windows” or
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/install/dbinst/windbinst2.htm
The pre-installation test failed because I had a network adaptor which was set to DCHP.
The recommendation was to install the MicroSoft Network loopback adapter. There are virtually no clear instructions on how to do this in VISTA.
I could find no maintenance window or utility to bring up a dialog window which would allow me to set the adapter to TCPIP or anywhere to set up the IP address, sub-mask, and the mythological check box for Virtual machine. So I let VISTA set the addresses for me.
NOTE: I have not installed MS-Virtual (anything)
Step 1: I clicked the radio button for ”Basic installation” and set my passwords to “orcacle” as suggested.
The database installed.
Afer Installation: I can connect using PL/SQL developer.
Step 2 of the Testing your installation tells you to accept the certificate
After several hours of trial and error, and reconfiguration of the loopback adapter settings, network adderess (now set to 169.254.66.152) I could finally get the browser to pass me to the certificate page.
I can now open the Internet browser and use the address of “https//localhost:1158/em” get to the certificate page. However, Vista will not issue the certificate.
Vista says The security certificate presented by this site was not presented by a trusted site.
Next line: The security certificate issued by this website was issued for a different website address.
I can continue to the LogIn window but logins fail. Meantime, I get the dreaded nmefwmi.exe has stopped working.
I planned to “Un-Install and reinstall the entire database, however, Vista does not show that 11g even exists. So, I cant use VISAT for un-install.
Any thoughts or suggestions ???
Hi fora,
Here is the guide to install loopback adapter:
The Microsoft Loopback adapter is a testing tool for a virtual network environment where network access is not available. Also, you must use the Loopback adapter if there are conflicts with a network adapter or with a network adapter driver. You can bind network clients, protocols, and other network configuration items to the Loopback adapter, and you can install the network adapter driver or network adapter later while retaining the network configuration information. You can also install the Loopback adapter during the unattended installation process.
Manual installation
To manually install the Microsoft Loopback adapter in Windows XP, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. If you are in Classic view, click Switch to Category View under Control Panel in the left pane.
3. Double-click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Next.
4. Under See Also in the left pane, click Add Hardware, and then click Next.
5. Click Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then click Next.
6. At the bottom of the list, click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
7. Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, and then click Next.
8. Click Network adapters, and then click Next.
9. In the Manufacturer box, click Microsoft.
10. In the Network Adapter box, click Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and then click Next.
11. Click Finish.
After the adapter is installed successfully, you can manually configure its options, as with any other adapter. If the TCP/IP properties are configured to use DHCP, the adapter will eventually use an auto net address (169.254.x.x/16) because the adapter is not actually connected to any physical media.
Note By default, TCP/IP properties are configured to use DHCP.
The best solution so far for me was to Ignore the error message and then go in by hand and alter the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora to point to the machine by name or a static IP address such as 127.0.0.1.Otherwise Loopback adapter will mess up your router configs:
Hope this helps for future issues.

I really don't know what to do. I am searching for a solution on Internet, but I don't find it.
I need urgently help. I would appreciate someone could help me.
We can do together via Webex or something similar. It doesnt worth it for me to type here and wait till someone give me an answer (if any), trying to find out how I did.
I hope to find the help I need. I am desperated :-(Can I install the OBIEE 10g version?I am not sure but i think OBIEE is not certified with windows 7. i could not find any MOS doc confirming same. Please log a call with oracle to confirm this.
would it work fine with the Oracle Database 11g and the RCUs?. Yes OBIEE 10g will work with oracle database 11g.
Thanks,

ORDM is not an "off the shelf" product to run. You need to populate the Reference, Base and Lookup tables first.
Which one you need to populate that depends on in which subject area you need to see reports.
This is a generic data model for Retail industry, not all the tables are relevant for all the retail verticals. So to implement ORDM for practical purpose you need some consulting services.
If you want to play with it, you can opt to install with the sample schema.
Genex Technologies is a India based development partner of Oracle who were involved in developing this product for Oracle. YOU can contact Genex ORDM support at [email protected], or [email protected] or directly to [email protected]
Hope this helps

I am trying to complete the initial setup of a new Oracle cluster. The group that purchased this decided they didn't want to pay for RAC, so I am left with a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 2 node cluster with Fail Safe installed. My question comes with the actual installation of the Oracle 11g database software. I am not really sure where I should be pointing my 'base' and 'software location' at. Do both of these need to target the shared storage between the 2 nodes of the cluster?
After I do the installation on the 1st node, how do I go about performing the installation on the 2nd node? I am assuming I will run into issues if I try to point at the same location on the shared storage?
Any help is greatly appreciated. I seem to only be able to find information about RAC, but not much in the way of Windows/Fail Safe configurations...oracle documentation for windows fail save installation

Hello,
I try to have a silent installation of the Oracle. The installation is done, everything is ok, but i have a problem with operations after installation.
For example, after the Oracle is installed i need to create the DB, etc ... For this i need to know when the installation is done, but looks like after i start the installer in silent mode with required parameters it's not waiting till the installation is done.
How can i wait the end of the command "databaseInstall\setup.exe -silent -responseFile d:\db_install.rsp" ?
i need also to wait till the NETCA, DBCA finish their installation in silent mode.
How can be this done ?
Tx in advance.!!!Srini is correct. You will need to use the -waitforcompletion flag to create the DB and netca.
You can use the below doc for instructions on how to do this.

Edited by: Lain on 13-gen-2011 20.06Make sure you have ssh configured properly on both nodes.
Do you have the Oracle Clusterware Installation 11g Release (whatever your platform is)?
Read this section 2.12.3 Enabling SSH User Equivalency on Cluster Member Nodes
Try this on rac1.
ssh rac2 date
Try this on rac2.
ssh rac1 date
If these don't return the date of the other host you haven't configured SSH properly. -
Hi Group,
I have an Oracle Installation 11g r2 that was not successful, now the directory has change so when I try to deinstall a message shows that the home is not found, To deinstall an oracle home manually is it enough to delete the directory where oracle is installed?
Thanks.OS: AIX 6.1
Some directories names were changed from its original place, and others were rename, I don't know exactly why it was do it and who did it, but now I've been asked to install Oracle 11gr2 again, I was thinking on create another home.
now is like this.
drwxr-xr-x 3 oracle oinstall 256 Oct 22 16:07 11.2.0
drwxr-xr-x 70 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 17 16:39 10.2.0
drwxr-xr-x 70 oracle oinstall 4096 Nov 30 18:41 11.1.0

Creating domain for BI Publisher issue
Hello,
Im trying to create domain for BI Publisher 11.1.1.3.0.
When configuring JDBC there are two component schemas: BIP Schema and OWSM MDS Schema. For database I have MS SQL Server configured with required RCU schemas.
The strange part: when testing the configuration, one fails - the BIP Schema. In the result log I see a very strange ""SELECT 1 FROM DUAL"" test which is obviously for oracle and not MS SQL.
For the 2nd schema, the one with successful test, there is a valid test query.
Please help me understand what am I doing wrong, why is there an Oracle test query for a MS SQL database and finally why on earth only one test fails because for both i have the same database type.
The version of fusion middleware is the one that came with BI installer 11g (11.1.1.3.0)
If wonder why am I doing this manually it is because the BI installer hangs at step 11 Creating Domain for about 100 minutes and then exits with timeout. great programming!
Please give me any hint, advise i can use to make BI Publisher run.
thank you809239 wrote:

Installing OBIEE on Windows 7, quick questions
Dear Experts,
Last year, I struggled installing OBIEE on Linux 5.5.
Now I want to install it on Windows 7 Ultimate.
It will be stand alone, for my own use only.
Both a client, and a server.
Some quick questions:
1)
Does the Windows server need to have a Domain (as Linux did)?
(I'm having some trouble with the same dummy domain that worked fine
in Linux, since it doesn't exist on the web.)
2)
Does the Windows server/client require a loopback adapter?
If so, does it require a static IP?
3)
Does the windows server/client require a static IP address?
4)
If static IP addresses are required for both 2 and 3,
is the static IP address supposed to match, or be different?
I hope these questions aren't too dumb. But I haven't found
anything online addressing them for windows yet.
Thanks a lot!Hi,
1)
Does the Windows server need to have a Domain (as Linux did)?

A. Not required.
2)
Does the Windows server/client require a loopback adapter?
If so, does it require a static IP?
A. Yes it is require for Loopback adapter and static ip for installation -- Client installation is not required -- You can go for Simple installation in your laptop.
3)
Does the windows server/client require a static IP address?
A. Yes
4)
If static IP addresses are required for both 2 and 3,
is the static IP address supposed to match, or be different?
