Installation and Window Focus

I do not understand why Adobe insists on making the Flash installer stay in focus while downloading.  This can take a few minutes depending on download speed and package size, and while it's going, you cannot minimize or cover the Flash installer to do other work.  Isn't "multitasking" something that Windows apps strive to do??
And, I prefer to be notified on updates, and yet after every install, the Flash installer insists on changing my settings.  Do the Flash programmers not respect the choices and time of the users??

I don't understand this; downloading is a pure Windows or browser function - it has nothing to do with Adobe.  I download the installers to my local disk, then close the browsers and run the installers:
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
I also prefer no auto-updates, and that is what I have set in the Flash Player Settings Manager.  Manually installing an update has never changed this setting.

  • Problem with new firefox tabs and window focus

Here's a problem that I've had for ages - sometimes it annoys me, other times I can live with it. Right now it's really p***ing me off.  :x
I have selected 'a new tab in the most recent window' under FF's Preferences->Tabs->Open links from other applications in:, so as an example, if I click on a URL in a mail in Thunderbird, Firefox opens it in a new tab. However, window focus stays on Thunderbird. I run both of them full screen, so although I'm looking at the web page in Firefox, anything I do on the keyboards affects Thunderbird. It affects URLs opened from other apps too e.g. if I open a terminal and do
    firefox www.archlinux.org
focus stays on the terminal window. The only exception is when firefox is not already running - in that case, firefox launches with focus.
DE is xfce4, and the system is completely up to date.
I've done some googling, and AFAICS, nobody else seems to have this problem. Any ideas, anyone?
    TIA.

Thanks MAC!EK - definitely a useful add-on, but it still doesn't solve my problem. In Tab Mix Plus Options, I have the following selected:
Links -> Open links from other applications in: New tab
Events-> Tab Focus -> Focus/Select tabs  that open from: <all>
However, the behaviour is as before i.e. I click a URL in Thunderbird, it opens in a new tab in Firefox, but window focus stays on Thunderbird. Within Firefox, the newly-opened tab is selected or focussed, but Firefox itself is not.
Anyway, thanks again. I think I need to keep looking.

  • Leopard Installation and Windows

I have purchased Leopard. Currently, my mac is on system 10.5.8 and I also have windows xp on the computer, use boot camp to switch back and forth. Question: If I install Leopard, will that destroy the windows files now on the computer? I'll back up the windows side in any event but I would appreciate an answer if anyone knows it.
    Thanks.

10.5.8 is leopard. if you purchased 10.6 that's snow leopard. and, no installing snow leopard on the OS X partition will not do anything to your windows partition. that is not to say you should not back up. you definitely should. things can and do go wrong during installation.

  • Openbox and window focusing

I'm having some problem with Openbox not focusing the windows as it should, if someone post a link on IRC and I click it in XChat then Firefox will load the url and will be moved to front just like it should. However the focus isn't shifted from XChat to Firefox, so any keyboard input will still be sent to XChat which is quite annoying if I want to close the tab (CTRL+W) as it will close the currently active tab in XChat instead of Firefox. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
In ObConf I have the option "Focus new windows when they appear" checked, however, my Firefox is always running so it's not a new window and thus this one should be irreleveant.
Versions (in case it should matter):
$ pacman -Q firefox xchat openbox
    firefox 2.0.0.7-1
    xchat 2.8.4-1
    openbox 3.4.4-1

  • IdeaCentre B540: Keyboard lag and Window Focus is off

We just purchase and received a Lenovo IdeaCentre B540. It appears to be working, however, there are some "quirks". When we push the windows flag on the wireless keyboard, the WIndows Start menu doesn't immediately load. If you hold the Windows flag for a few seconds, the Start Menu will pop up.
Also, Alt + Tab does not work. If you push them, the little window that shows thumbnails of what is open in the background/running behind that window doesn't stay on screen. You can't flip between them.
I've also noticed a near impossiblilty in selecting/checking the check marks on apps like Windows Update. If you "select all", they will check, but not individually, and this is when there's only 1 update to even be completed.
Additionally, when you open for example Chrome or Firefox, or even Microsoft Word, you can begin typing right away, go to whatever website you want. This computer isn't loading that... you have to select "into" the address bar of Chrome to begin typing. Or into the blank document area of Word, to begin typing. It's almost as tho the newly opened window isn't in focus.
It's also doing the same thing if you have an app open, and open another, the newly opened app is immediately sent to the background.
So far, Lenovo support has just hung up/disconnected me after 20 minutes on hold.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

    hi palemoonrises,
    Can you try to:
    1. Set the power settings to high performance and observe
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    2. If same problem, boot into Safe Mode with Networking and see if you get the issue. If everything's working fine, perform a clean boot to isolate non-microsoft apps that's most likely causing the focus off the opened programs / slow performance
    Let me know your findings

  • Imcompatibility issues with Photoshop Elements 4.0 Software Installation and Windows Version 7.0?

Does anyone have a solution so that I can begin using this software immediately? Assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Kalari12 Mylenium has a point that the software may simply not function as Windows 7 was not even in the beginning of development when Photoshop Elements 7 was created.  You are welcome to post the exact error message you are receiving and I can check our knowledgbase.

  • Flash CS6 split view window/focus issues.

I'm using Flash CS6 editing multiple AS3 files and the file tab selection behavior is frustrating and I was not having these issues in Flash CS5.5.  When viewing two code windows in a split plane, clicking from one window to the next does not automatically focus/activate the code tab.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Open two AS3 files and arrange them into a 2 window split view.
    2) Select the code file tab on the right.
    3) Within the right code file, copy a line of code.
    4) Click the mouse within the first code file on the left and paste your code line.
    5) Note that your code pastes into the right file.
    6) Note that the left code file does not receive focus when the cursor is in the window.
    OS: Win 7

Ya, I havent used Flash Builder yet only because FP is what I'm used to.  However, just imported my project into FB 4.6 and it's alot better so thanks for the tip.
So I tried undocking, and the bug remains if you copy a line from one 'undocked' tab, into a docked tab. However if both code windows are undocked, the copy/paste and window focusing works fine, but in my case with ~20 class files, it would be a nightmare.
The workaround is either edit the project in CS5.5, then open and re-save it in CS6, or in CS6 click the file tab you want to edit, then click within the file, then paste, every time you are copying a line from one file to another.

  • Windows Deployment Services PXE Installation of Windows 10 Preview and Server vNext Technical Preview Failed

The automated answer file associated with Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview x64 (9481) and the Windows Server Technical Preview x64 (9841) seem to be incompatible. No problem adding both wim files to WDS, this completes without issue.
When trying to install both the Server vNext Technical Preview and Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview Via Network Installation (PXE) both encounter errors. The Server PXE Installation wont even commence after choosing the vNext Operating system installation,
and choosing the Windows 10 operating system encounters a "answer configuration error" towards the end (maybe the generalization pass?).
Anyone have a work around for configuring the answer file? or maybe a more positive experience?

We're playing around with Windows 10 TP and Server vNext also. For Windows 10 TP i got PXE based deployment running with unattend.xml from Windows 8.1. But i still did not get Server vNext deployment working.
I would also be happy if there's somebody out who has an idea on that topic.

  • Windows 8.0 and Windows 10 technical review installation issues and activation message keeps poping up?

My Dell Inspiron E1705 had Windows Vista and I could not install the Windows 10 technical review, so I installed my Windows 8.0 and then I could install the Win10 tech review. So I'm reviewing the Win10 and now I keep getting a pop up screen with Windows
asking to activate so to get ride of the messages popping up every boot up. I am attempting to activate but when I follow the instructions to activate entering the product key from the Windows 8.0 fails. I next select call and provide your installation ID,
this process is you call in and an automated prompt ask for your installation ID, then it gives you some numbers to enter in groups A thru H, but my screen only shows A thru G?  My concern is that if I don't activate this windows it will stop and thus
    no review of Win10.
Should I be concerned is activation necessary, Do I re-install Win10 and start over, I feel that I may have inadvertently caused the problem when I did the initial installation it ask if I wanted to keep information from the previous installed Windows 8
or install clean? If I don't get any other options/solutions I may just do a clean install?
Thanks in advance for your support.
    /Joe

    Hi Joe,
So the situation here is you upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 10, and Windows 10 can't be activated?
There is no need to activate Windows 10 in the Technical Preview period, and if you have issue activating Windows, you may try to run:
    1. Open Administrative command prompt (Windows key+x > A)
    2. Type: SLUI 3
    3. Enter the product key listed on the download site.
And if you still get the activation issue, please contact Microsoft local license support team for further assistance.

  • Unattended Windows 8.1 Pro installation and Firmware integrated license key

I have a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad that comes with a Windows 8 Pro license. According to what I read, the product key for Windows 8 for this machine is integrated into its firmware so I should be able to install a Windows 8 or 8.1 on it without need of a
    product key.
The machine came preloaded with Windows 7 and a recovery set of DVDs for Windows 8. I want to do a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 directly. This is a pilot device for our new generation of PCs. Therefore I want to use an unattended installation that is
automated with a XML response file.
The problem is now with the product key. When I do not specify a product key in the response file, then the installation fails. When I specify some other key in the response file (such as one from our MSDN subscription) then the installation succeeds and
Windows 8.1 automatically activates itself - but apparently using that MSDN key and not the one from the machine's firmware.
How can that problem be solved?

Thanks for the answer, but it solves only half of my problem.
I can get through the installation with the default key. But then I cannot activate the system. It tells me that the key is not valid (well, true, the default key). But how do I get it to recognize the key stored in the computer's firmware?
The Thinkpad has a "Windows 8" license sticker with just the Windows logo but no product key on it. This means, the product key is stored in its firmware memory.

  • Something happened and your installation of Windows 8.1 couldn't be completed

I have a brand new Acer with Win 8 installed. I've removed McAfee. Other than that the machine is as delivered.
Trying to download 8.1 and install it from the store. It sits there for a couple of minutes then says:
Your Windows 8.1 installation couldn't be completed
Something happened and the installation of Windows 8.1 can't be completed.
Now apart from this being really annoying could anyone have come up with a less useful message?
I have tried it several times. I've run the compatibility util and it passes. I've tried the store without logging in, then tried the store with logging in.
I've tried it in Firefox, tried it in IE.
    Same result every time.

OK, so I posted 2 days ago about this issue, and I resolved it yesterday.  I essentially performed a "refresh" under Windows 8, which removed a lot of the updates and applications that could be potential issues.
I then had to go to the Sony website to re-install the latest drivers, SW and driver patches related to my Vaio Duo (I had already updated the firmware and Bios -- necessary to install Windows 8.1--).  I then had to re-install all Windows 8 updates,
and magically, the Windows 8.1 update started to download when I clicked on it in the Windows Marketplace.  I do not know what was the source of the problem, but the refresh definitely got rid of it.  It is a long process however as a lot has to
be reinstalled to bring the refreshed system to its full functionality with the latest manufacturer and Microsoft updates for Windows 8.
I can't see how a non-technical user could perform all these steps to upgrade a recent tablet to Windows 8.1!
    Good luck!

  • Have Upgrade Graphic Card Driver, But Still Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness and Sleep Button Not Showing After Clean Installation of Windows 8.1

I have done clean installation of Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G4.
Then I realize that I cannot put my computer on sleep mode and cannot adjust screen brightness.
I understand that those problems caused by the graphic card driver.
My computer is running on AMD Radeon HD 6400 series.
Thus, I manually search on internet and found a latest graphic card update on microsoft site that is claimed compatible on windows 8.1 (link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn344644.aspx).
I've upgraded it into the latest one. I've check on Device Manager, the driver is running well.
But my problem did not solved!
    Please give me the solution!

    Hi,
How about go to Device Manager, then uninstall Graphic driver and restart your computer, system will install its build in graphic drver. You can have a try.
In addition, access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Brightness and set its value to 100 for test.
