Installation Directory Path Permissions

Hi,
I have a SCCM 2012 Virtual Lab as follows:
Host - 2012 R2, Hyper V Role installed. Nothing else.
VM: 2012 R2 DC Edition. SQL 2012 installed on D Drive. SCCM 2012 Installed on D Drive.
Issue:
All folders within D:\Program Files\Config Mgr are "Access Denied" to the account I created for SCCM Installation. This account is a member of domain admins, enterprise admins, Schema Admins. (It's only a lab......)
I could not even find log files until I gave myself access to the LOGS folder. This happens to every folder within the parent installation directory. I am assuming this is not normal. Could someone please confirm that I can just say "Yes" when
the OS asks me if i want access? I'm having issues with PXE which I cant help but feel could be caused by the lack of access across all these folders.......
Interestingly, I have had this numerous times on other Server 2012 deployments and on Windows 8! Maybe this is an underlying inherent behvaiour??? Much appreciate any responses regarding this.
Cheers everybody

  • OT: Permissions for FrameMaker installation directory

    I have never run into this before. I jumped into my FrameMaker installation directory, because some things in maker.ini are not available in the copy in my profile path (such as paste preferences), and I was blocked from saving changes because I lacked permissions.
    Why do IT departments lock that down?
    I mean, clearly programs can install there, so a virus or malicious code could still do harm, but why do they lock me, the local admin, out? Any thoughts.
    Also, let's pass along to Adobe the need to move all those ini settings somewhere else.
    Cheers,
    Sean

    Psst – if you’re getting locked out of your own c:\ drive, you’re not a local admin – you may have to “promote” yourself to give yourself rights to those folders – since Vista, Mr. Bill’s been trying to protect us from ourselves (LOL)

  • SCCM 2012 Installation Directory Registry Key chaning automatically to Old Installation Path

    Hi Guys,
    I have recently recovered SCCM 2012 SP1 CAS Site from Primary Site by reinstalling CAS site and database was replicating with Primary sites properly after CAS recovery. But we noticed that after approx. 2 hours of CAS site recovery database replication stopped.
    After long digging into SCCM log files we found that SCCM installation directory was pointing to old CAS Site Installation Directory (Which was before recovery) instead of NEW Installation Directory so we changed SCCM CAS Site Installation Directory manually
    to new installation path in below registry key and everything was running fine again on CAS Site.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Identification
    But again when we restarted SMS_EXEUTIVE Service, SCCM Installation Directory again changed to old installation patch under above registry location and all is bad again. We are unable to figure out what is causing this and even we formatted our HDD before
    installation CAS Site.
    Can anyone please help to get rid of this issue. Our while CAS site is down due to this issue.
    Thanks.

    I think that you have to use the same installation directory in a site recovery scenario.

  • Sequence app with modify rights to installation directory

    Hey there
    I've got an application, where the user must have Change / Modify Rights to the Installation Directory. By Default, the Installation is installed in C:\Vendor\App1. If i just install the application locally the application can be launched without any
    problem.
    I tried to sequence the App with App-V 5.0 SP2 HF4 with PVAD "C:\Vendor1" and i selected the Option "Allow virtual application full write permissions to the virtual file System" on the Advanced Tab of the Sequencer. If i start the application
    i get an error that the database (Application is an Access addin) is only in read mode, and that the application can't get startet.
    Also i'm not able to manually add or modify rights in the Installation Directory.
    Have i missed something? Isn't the Option "Allow virtual application full write permissions..." for this case?
    Thank you in advance!
    Best regards, Simon

    In the first post I read it as you captured to PVAD, and in the post above you set it to VFS.  Did you do a second capture?  If not which are the files in?
    You can always run procmons, etc, to try to figure out what is going on.  The application can always be doing something 'weird', unfortunately its hard to give you a really solid solution with all the potential variables.
    You could upgrade to SP3, and resequence.  Beyond that, you could try going into the VE, and writing a dummy file to that DIR, to see if you get any permissions error.  Does the program put itself into PATH or anything like that?  If there
    are references to the C:\ProgramData location, its possible the program is trying to write to that folder, which is the outside folder you can't write to.

  • Creating Target Directory Paths

    My questions are mixed in below, marked with "Q:"
    Task 7A-1-6 in the PTools 8.48 Installation Guide talks about directory path structures that are required by the Oracle DBMS install wizard, but need to be manually created by me.
    I installed database 10g. My SID is "HCM". There is an initHCM.ora file in my database folder. The contents were:
    SPFILE='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1/dbs/spfileHCM.ora'
    and I added the following, per install guide instructions:
    DB_NAME = HCM
    DB_FILES = 1021
    CONTROL_FILES = (/filesystem1/cntrl1HCM,/filesystem2/cntrl2HCM)
    OPEN_CURSORS = 255
    db_block_size = 8192
    remote_login_passwordfile=NONE
    Q: I substituted HCM for <SID> in the CONTROL_FILES variable, but are things like filesystem1 and filesystem2 meant to be literals, or is it intended that I substitute something for these? Also, there are some forward slashes in the SPFILE variable - is that ok for Windows?
    The guide mentions these CREATEDB.SQL references...
    startup nomount pfile=%ORACLE_HOME%\database\init<SID>.ora
    DATAFILE '<drive>:\oradata\<SID>\system01.dbf' SIZE 400M
    LOGFILE '<drive>:\oradata\<SID>\log01.dbf' SIZE 70M,
    '<drive>:\oradata\<SID>\log02.dbf' SIZE 70M;
    *...So I assume that I need to create c:\oradata\HCM*
    The guide then says:
    The init<SID>.ora parameter file that is referenced in the CREATEDB.SQL script makes the following
    directory path structure references:
    Note. Portions of the init<SID>.ora parameter file have been omitted for clarity. These paths are hardcoded
    by the user creating the init<SID>.ora parameter file. The Data Configuration Wizard will not make any
    substitutions for mount point, target directory path, or <SID> in the init<SID>.ora file.
    +
    Control file references:
    +
    control_files = ("c:\apps\db\oracle9i\oradata\ORC1\control01.ctl", "c:\apps\db⇒
    \oracle9i\oradata\ORC1\control02.ctl", "c:\apps\db\oracle9i\oradata\ORC1⇒
    \control03.ctl")
    background_dump_dest = c:\apps\db\Oracle9i\admin\ORC1\bdump
    core_dump_dest = c:\apps\db\Oracle9i\admin\ORC1\cdump
    user_dump_dest = c:\apps\db\Oracle9i\admin\ORC1\udump
    Q:  Does this mean I need to create c:\apps\db\Oracle10g\admin\ORC1 plus subfolders bdump, cdump and udump?  I particularly wonder if those exact names are correct, especially since the examples are for the 9i version.
    Q:  The guide says (above) that it's the init<SID>.ora parameter file which makes the above control file references... but as I showed above, that file only contained the one line, before I added the parms I mentioned.  Is the install guide saying that I should add the control file references above to my initHCM.ora file?

    With regard to the CONTROL_FILES variable...
    I'm not sure how forward slashes are meant to be interpreted in the Windows world. Are you saying that I should substititute an entire valid Widows path, like this?
    CONTROL_FILES = (c:\myfilesys1\cntrl1HCM.txt,c:\myfilesys2\cntrl2HCM.txt)
    ...after having first created folders c:\myfilesys1 and c:\myfilesys2, and that the database creation script will generate files cntrl1HCM.txt (I added the extension) and cntrl2HCM.txt?
    Can you post a sample Windows init<SID>.ora file?
    Edited by: M_Borok on Oct 7, 2008 7:46 AM
    (continued)
    ...on re-reading, it seems to me that section Task 7A-1-5: Creating an INIT<SID>.ORA File shows the general format:
    CONTROL_FILES = (/filesystem1/cntrl1<SID>,/filesystem2/cntrl2<SID>)
    ...but section Task 7A-1-6: Creating Target Directory Paths shows an example of substituted code for this line:
    control_files = ("c:\apps\db\oracle9i\oradata\ORC1control01.ctl", "c:\apps\db\oracle9i\oradata\ORC1control02.ctl", "c:\apps\db\oracle9i\oradata\ORC1\control03.ctl")
    Is that true? i.e. does this mean that I can create any path and file name I want, and the database create script will read it here and use it?
    If so, does this mean that I have to substitute actual paths ANYWHERE I see a forward slash?
    Also... I'm thinking that ORC1 in the sample code is their example of the SID, and for me it might be HCM instead.
    I note that their example shows three control files instead of the two shown in the first template. Does it matter.
    Q: Are these control files files that will be written by the create script, or are they a reference to files I should have created and populated?

    You are getting this message because the WFR web server is trying to access the project file in a directory that is not valid on that server. I assume that path is correct on the Designer machine but the web server is on a different machine?
    Assuming the project file is on a file server, you should share that folder then open the project in Designer via the UNC path to the share. Then, go to the Options menu and select the Users, Groups and Roles... option. On the Users tab of the Project Authentication dialog, ensure that the Allow Database Authentication option is checked, then click the Export to Database... button. That will create an entry in the database for that project pointing to the UNC path instead of the local path, so the web server should then be able to access it (provided you have assigned sufficient permissions on the share).
    Alternatively, you could copy the project folder structure to the web server on the same path as it is on the Designer machine. This should work but will cause issues for ongoing administration of the project, as you will need to keep the copy on the web server synchronized with that on the Designer machine. I wouldn't recommend doing this.

  • Why do we need write access to Java installation Directory

    We are Upgrading from Siebel Analytics 7.8 to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
    As OBIEE needs Java 1.5 or higher as a pre-requisite we are planning to uninstall Java 1.4 and install latest version of Java 1.5.
    According to OBI Installation and Configuration Guide http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/b31765.pdf -> Page 39 "If you are installing using the Basic installation type, make the user or user group permissions
    writable for the user installing Oracle Business Intelligence, for all JDK 1.5.0 installation directories,
    subdirectories, and files". Can anybody let me know why we need write access to Java Installation Directory??

    I had this same question and asked Oracle. Here's what I was told:
    Per Dev:
    "For OBI Presentation Services and OBI Publisher, jdk fonts files are copied into the JDK location because we do not bundle our own JDK. To ensure the install can do this you need to ensure that the Oracle BI installer has permissions to copy files to the specified JDK location.
    This means that if the same user who installer/untarred JDK is also installing Oracle BI, the install should work. In this case the the permissions of the JDK is probably 755.
    It will not work if a root user installs JDK and a normal user installs Oracle BI because the normal user does not have access to write to the JDK location or will not work if the JDK location is read-only, i.e. 444. In this case running chmod -R 777 will work."

    It looks like the installation files are being shared over a terminal services connection (based on what you are saying, I'm guessing you're using Hyper-v and it's using TS to present the files).  I always run into mixed results when I run installs from
    a path not local to the server.  Can you copy the install paths locally and rerun setup?

  • Manually coping agent installation directory in windows.

    Hi
    One of my production server's hardware is going to be upgraded from ProLiant DL380 G4 to ProLiant DL380 G5 with higher configuration in Windows 32 bit OS. My network team is rebuilding this server as a new box with the same ip address. I don't want to loose the history of this node target databases in the Grid repository for reporting purposes.
    If I install the oracle agent as a fresh installation I will loose the history. I am planning copy the entire agent installation directory to new server. I am curious to know once I secure the agent and start the agent with because ip addresses are same will it start? How to create a agent service here? Is there any manual process to create the agent service. I want to preserve the history of the node and targets in the Grid here.
    Your valuable suggestions are highly appreciated.
    Rao

    Rao,
    You won't be able to just copy the software directory to the new server. The installation process addes entries to the registry, updates the path, etc.
    The sc command allows you to interact with services. If you type "sc" at a command prompt, you will get a listing of the syntax.
    I wouldn't think that you could copy the configuration from an "old" host & use it on a "new" host. There would be too many differences that would cause conflicts. I guess you could try it & drop & recreate the objects from the repository if it didn't work.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Get installation directory programmatically

    is it possible to get user installation directory of jdk programmatically?
    i.e. j2se was installed to
    f:\mydir\jdk14
    how to get the directory in java program?
    java.home is run-time environment directory looks like c:\program file\..., not user installation directory i needed.
    thx

    The JDK is usually NOT installed in the same place as the JRE.We are obviously talking about different things.
    In my JDK C:\j2sdk1.4.2_05 there is a JRE C:\j2sdk1.4.2_05\jre
    They can be installed in different places but I assume you are talking about different installs in different places. i.e. the JDK and JRE have been installed seperately.
    I need to obtain user installation directory programmatically You can look at the PATH and the registry. However if the user installs more than one JDK, which copy are you going to chose. Most applications which need a seperate JDK search for the JDK when installed and then ask the user which JDK to use.
    - System.getProperties() will not get the directory - i have tested with all jdks and all windows OS.
    One thing you can do with ant is to write the directory used to build an application into the application for it to find. I would concider this bad practice and unreliable however.
    who can answer my Q?The reason the JDK is seperate from the JRE is so that once development has be done you can run the JRE and not need the development portions which come with the JDK. If you need still need components of the JDK, why don't you start the application in the JDK.

    You don't need the double /, one is enough.
    To write to a relative (existing) directory, you can do:
    FileWriter fstream = new FileWriter("LogRecord/" +st ,true);

    hello arcandl, when firefox isn't launching after you double-click on the shortcut this is sometimes also a sign of malware being active on a system.
