Installation Disk Won't mount

I am trying to install Photoshop Elements 10 from the DVD installation disk. Why is it being ejected before mounting? Other disks mount fine.

It's possible you have only a CD drive. Apple has an exchange program to swap your DVD for CDs.

  • Dreamweaver CS6:  Installation disk won't allow a change in the location of the installation folder

First, I hope the moderators will cut me some slack for making a duplicate posting.  The comments below were posted in the "Creative Suites" community.  I just noticed that there is a "Dreamweaver" community.  I feel the issues I've raised below are more relevant to the latter.
I recently purchased a Dreamweaver CS6 installation disk and have a valid registration code.  The Adobe website has recognized this code as valid.
I started-out  by having the installation disk install into a folder on a high capacity (0.5 tb) external drive.  This was done while my Gateway PC was still working properly.  I did a duplicate installation onto this hard drive (into a separate folder) to accommodate any work I wanted to do on a Dell laptop I also own.  For a few days things seemed to work ok on both computers.  Then the cursor on my Gateway stopped moving.  Several changes of mice failed to resolve the problem.  I've written-off my Gateway as "dead."  However the Dreamweaver CS6 installation MAY (I can't remember) be on a "local" folder on my Gateway and I am concerned I will have trouble installing Dreamweaver on the replacement I've purchased.  I understand one is limited to 2 installations.  If needed, can I purchase a license for a third installation?  And what might that cost?
After turning-off my Gateway I then went to my Dell laptop to try to work with Dreamweaver there.  I felt it was best to install on a "local" folder so I deleted all the Dreamweaver software from the folders on my external drive.  Unfortunately the installation disk is still "pointed" to the folders on my external drive.  To make matters worse I am now getting an error message which indicates I need to install into a folder on the "local" drive of my Dell laptop.  But the installation disk won't allow me to change the path.  On the installation disk the "path" to my external drive is faded-out and it will not allow me to delete and type-in a new path.
I've spent what, to me, are big bucks on this Dreamweaver disk.  It's the only website building software that seemed to get consistently good reviews. However, for me, Dreamweaver is becoming a nightmare!  I'm very much of a novice at website building.  I don't know how, in the world, I will be able to a)  Create something, and then  b)  Get Dreamweaver to put it onto what is now a blank webpage.  I recently got "Dreamweaver CS6 The Missing Manual" and "Dreamweaver CS6 For Dummies."  So far I haven't been able to find anything, in either of these two books, which addresses the issues I've raised here.
    Somebody--please help!!
Don't know if my screen name will show up.  So my name is JACK, near Old Faithfull.

Have you tried calling Adobe Customer service? They can deactivate one of your installations so that you can install and run on a new system. And perhaps they can help with your other problem, or send you to a tech support rep who can.
With regard to your use of DW, I'd strongly suggest that you take advantage of this downtime by learning as much HTML and CSS as you can absorb. Multiple sittings would be helpful. The more you know about those two, the easier DW will be for you when you eventually get it going.

  • DVD-Ram disks won't mount on Dual 450 - help!

I've got a particular and pressing problem. I'm an audio engineer among other things. I have a lot of files archived temporarily on DVD-Ram disks from my old Dual 450. I have to retrieve some files pronto but suddenly the DVD-Ram disk won't mount. The drive spits out the disk as soon as I insert it. It will mount CDs but not these DVD-Ram disks. Please help. I need to back these up off of thse old disks. But more urgently I have pending sessions that require I get some files from these disks. This happens both under OS 9.1 and 10.2.8 the last revisions of this computer I did. But it used to work until a year or so ago.
I have so far repaired permissions, used Disk Warrior and sprayed around the dusty drive with compressed air. It seems that perhapos a mechanism is loose springing the disk out when it's not immediately recognized as a CD or DVD-R.
    Help!

Probably your best bet is to dismantle the drive and try manually cleaning the lenses, which has made a difference for some users.
Other option is to replace the drive with a new one capable of reading (but not necessarily writing) DVD-RAM media. LG-4163B is one such drive, Pioneer DVR-110 can also read DVD-RAM. These drives are under $40 online in the US.

  • External disk won't mount after 10.5.7 upgrade

    Hi,
I know there's problem with Buffalo external HD; mine is Lexcron 3.5'' external case and it won't mount neither. I tried PRAM restart, and if I go to Disk Utility and try to repair, it gives me the following message:
Verify and Repair volume “Dirty Hary”
** /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix has been disabled because of volume corruption issues.
** If you still want to try fixing your volume, use /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix from the command line...
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
It worked with 10.5.6 and it still works with Win XP (it's NTFS format).
Is there something that I can do?
Will this issue be solved in Snow Leopard?
Thanks in advance for any kind of constructive info (I've already read threads with Buffalo issue, but I didn't find any thread giving a solution).

    Hi V.K.,
Thanks for your response, can you provide some more details?
OS X has very limited support for NTFS. you need to repair the drive from windows.
How do I do that? I mean the disk works normally in Win XP and it worked normally in the previous OS X version. Btw. I've also installed NTFS-3D which allowed to write on the disk and search from spotlight (of course when it was mounted).
run chkdsk in windows and see if it finds any errors.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
it can also be that the problem is caused by ntfs-3g which is known to have a number of bugs. you can try uninstalling it or plugging in the drive in a mac without ntfs-3g installed.
there is no "issue" to solve.
Well if it worked in 10.5.6 and it works in Win XP and it doesn't work in 10.5.7 I am tempted to say 10.5.7 has an issue.
the fact that you have a problem with one drive on your particular system doesn't mean there is a problem with os x in general. an issue is when all or at least many people have a problem, not one.
furthermore, NTFS is a proprietary file system of Microsoft with closely guarded secrets about its inner workings which is why it has very limited support on other types of operating systems. apple is under no obligation to provide ANY support for something like that. programs like NTFS-3g are essentially unauthorized hacks.

  • Hard Disk Won't Mount; Lion Wants To Initialise It - Please Help!!

    Greetings All,
Disk issues! Help! Ok, I have an external RAID box (Sonnet 8 Bay SATA) with 4 pairs of RAID 1 drives. One of the pairs, 3Tb Hitachis, all of a sudden won't mount on OS X Lion. Everything was working fine, tried to save something to them, Mac refused, I restarted and the other three pairs show up, but the 3Tb Hitachi pair don't. OS X gives me the message that "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I've restarted the Mac and Sonnet box several times, checked that all drivers are up to date and reinstalled anyway. Have also taken the two drives out and tried to get them mounted on my Mac Pro or MacBook Pro using a FW800 dock without joy - always get the same message mentioned. Disk Warrior won't even help as when the Hitachi 3Tb is plugged in via the dock, the program hangs when it's scanning for disks. Although all the data on the drives is almost definitely backed up, I don't want to initialise / format the disks as there is a chance some video files aren't and also it'll knock FCP X as this was the primary drive where Events and Projects are stored.
Any suggestions would be thoroughly appreciated :-)
    Cheers,
    Edmond

    Hi,
Both drives physically are working (both bought together several months ago). The Sonner RAID software shows the RAID pair as ok and doesn't report any issues or errors - it sees both drives and the RAID 1 is 100% fine. So, as far as teh RAID box is concerned, all is well and there are zero issues.
When I try plugging the drives in seperately using a dock, neither will mount and give the same error message :-(
The issue seems to be at a data / OS level. Biggest initial problem is I can't mount them to check :-(

  • System disk won't mount

    Hi folks,
I have a Mac mini running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. I'm having problems with iCal, so I erased the program and its Library support files, and tried to reinstall from the system disk (which is 10.6.3). The machine won't mount it, just ejects it after a while.
Is this normal behavior since the OS has been updated? It's new behavior to me. What would I do if I needed to reinstall the syatem?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Run the combo 10.6.8 update.  If that doesn't work, get your PRAM battery replaced. If that doesn't work, get your optical drive cleaned and see if the disc inserts then.  If that doesn't work, but other discs do work, then I would call AppleCare to get replacement original discs.  If they don't work, then I would have get an external DVD drive from http://www.macsales.com/ and see if the disc will work from them.  If that dosn't work, bring it in for service to find out what is wrong with it.

  • Hard Disk Won't Mount Volume

I have a hard disk that won't mount. It was previosly part of a software mirror RAID. The raid was degraded, so I tried to rebuild the second raid mirror. THis failed, and now the master won't mount either. In TechTools, the drive is reported as being fine, but the volume still won't mount. Any suggestions? This is really setting us back a bit.

    Hi folks,
My mini: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, ID Macmini4,1
    System: 10.6.8
I need to restore my iCal. It's broken: won't give me recurring event alarms. I'm trying to run my System Disk and it won't mount, the machine just rejects it. Same with the Applications Disk that came with it.
The System Disk is 10.6.3 and the machine is now running the fully Updated version.
Help, please, this a business computer and I need iCal back.
    Thanks,

  • Premiere Pro 2.0 Installation Disk Won't Read

I had to re-format my hard drive and when re-installing Premiere Pro 2.0 I found that my installation disk will not read in my DVD drive!  Nothing is wrong with my drive.  It reads all other DVDs just fine.  I get nothing in the directory like the disk isn't there.  It's not a disk problem because they have been stored in excellent condition, and not only will the installation disk not run or open, but neither will the accompanying Total Training Video Workshop disks.  I am completely dumbfounded.  When I purchased this program about 6 years ago off Ebay I had the old 1.5 version on my computer, and had to enter the old registration key along with the new one for 2.0.  Is it possible I have an UPGRADE-ONLY copy here instead of the actual full program?  It's in the shiny new box and all and doesn't say anything on it about it being an upgrade, so it seems legit.  And if it was, in fact, just an upgrade-only program, would that cause the disks not to be read at all in the drive??  I need help on this one because I make my living off editing, and I'm sitting on 3 projects for clients that I cannot deliver on time to get paid, nor have I been able to afford to buy a new CS version.

I have about 8 different burners on my systems, and some will read DVD's better than others will. On my workstation, I have one LG and one Plextor. The LG does the best, and when it fails, the Plextor usually can read. When this happens, I just do a Copy from the drive that can read the disc, to the other drive, using Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden blank media. If neither can read, I have six others to try. Sometimes, it's just the burner.
One little hint would be to make sure that your burner's firmware is updated to the very latest. That can improve the burner's ability to read from a slightly damaged disc.
Otherwise, contact Adobe. For many programs, they sell replacement media. Do not know if there are version limitations, but one call should give you what is available.

  • OS X installation disk won't work

my brother recently gave me his old 2010 MacBook pro 13 inch. I went into disk utility and erased the disk so it would be factory reset. The problem now is that when I go to reinstall OS X Mavericks it's not available. I do have an installation disk which I had from my own MacBook which was stolen years ago but when I try to use it nothing happens. I've gone into the start up disk and the only available option is the installation disk. When I choose that it restarts and then comes to a screen that tells me to restart and that keeps happening. Is there any way to install an operation system? I feel like I've tried everything at this point for something that I feel should be so simple. Your answers are greatly appreciated.

So that disk is gray? Does it say 10.6.3 or maybe 10.6.4?
""Mac OS X cannot start up from this disk."
Open up Disk Utility and select partition.
Here's a good guide to walk you through the procedure:

Sounds like the GUID partition scheme is messed up.

  • Bootcamp - Windows installation disk won't read

I have a late-2011, 13 inch MacBook Pro and I am running OS X 10.9.3 with all the latest updates. I am trying to use Bootcamp to runs windows but the windows disk isn't be read by my laptop. I run Bootcamp, it downloads the latest support software but when I put the windows installation disk in; it starts to spin up, makes some noises like it is being read, then it ejects the disk. Anybody have this problem, or now a way around it?

  • Disk won't mount - Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode)

I have an HP Envy DV7 (dv7-7243cl ) with Windows 8 Pro x64. My Western Digital 2 terabyte My Book USB3.0 external drive periodically won't mount ( sometimes it will, sometimes it won't). The drive has its own power source.
When this happens Windows device manager shows - Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode). This can happen if the system is up and running and I plug the drive into the USB port or on system startup where the drive is already plugged in.
Any clue how to fix this?
    Other details:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz
    12 Gig memory
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    System board 181C 52.24
    Bios F.26

Well, the problem is that - as outlined in one of the articles I linked to - some USB devices will not work in Safe Mode; that may have to do with the fact the Safe Mode is only meant to be a troubleshooting tool, not a regular way of booting up. Did you have the USB devices attached while upgrading to 10.6? That would also be a problem - I unplug everything except keyboard and mouse. And, did you repair permissions after the upgrade? If not, do it now.
And, the other problem is the fact that you wait 1 - 2 years before addressing the issue; when you had it in for the last repair and it still exhibited the same problems afterwards, you should would have taken it back, possibly with some screenshots, exact notes of how/when/error messages, etc. and insisted on having it fixed or replaced.
So, I'd run the Apple Hardware Test (after you make sure that you have a complete backup) - instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Report back with whatever messages you wind up with.

  • OS X 10.5 Leopard install disk won't mount

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on an iMac G4 and want to upgrade to OS X 10.5. I bought a retail 10.5.1 installation DVD set but I can't get the disks to mount on my iMac G4. I've tried loading it in with OS 10.4 running and I've tried starting up from the 10.5 disk holding down the C key. I've also tried starting up holding down the option key. Nothing seems to work. The disk does not show up in disk utility. The disks are apparently ok because I can mount them on my intel iMac as a test.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Some Macs are not able to boot from USB drives.
    These options come to mind:
1 - Make a bootable USB stick - very slow and painful - several tutorials on the web
2 - Make a reduced (single layer DVD) - not too difficult - I have done it several times - let me know if you decide to do this - I can give you a list of items to remove.
3 - Partition your G4 hard drive, boot into installer on one volume and install onto the other volume - very fast and easy - useful in the future - if G4 has important data this will need backing up to another disk first as partitioning normally erases the whole disk.
    For 3:
1 - If necessary backup all data, and perhaps whole disk, to another disk with eg Carbon Copy Cloner
2 - Use Tiger install CD/DVD to partition G4 disk - can be equal volumes or perhaps make one about 10 GB for installer.
3 - Install Tiger onto one volume - the larger one if they are different
4 - Boot into Tiger volume
5 - Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone Leopard installer onto the other volume
6 - Boot into installer and use it to replace Tiger with Leopard
In future you can use the installer volume in the same way that you would use an installer DVD for repair or reinstalls etc.
    Good luck.

  • USB disk won't mount on startup (have tried everything)

    Hi!
I'm having big problems getting my USB disk to mount on startup.:(
It used to work perfectly by having 'mount /dev/sdc1 /media/disk' in rc.local (and umount in local.shutdown) but recently it started saying that 'filesystem type must be defined' (or something like that). So I changed the line to 'mount -t ext3 /dev/sdc1 /media/disk' but now I get a message that '/dev/sdc1 does not exist'.
So I decided to get this fixed in fstab once and for all.
I checked the designations of the disks with 'fdisk -l' and noticed that the USB disk would alternate between /dev/sdc, /dev/sde and /dev/sdd quite random on every reboot. In other words I couldn't mount it in fstab by using one of those paths cause I'd get the same problem with '/dev/sdc or -e or -d does not exist'. I figured the sollution must be to mount the disk by using UUID. I checked the uuid's and got the following (as you can see the USB disk is on this reboot registered as '/dev/sde'):
    bash-3.2$ ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/
    total 0

I other words the UUID of the disk should be '94911fb3-def7-4440-b6a5-5e09f91b19f6' so I added that to the fstab file, but I still get the same error that the disk doesn't exist. How is this possible? Isn't the UUID supposed to be the same no matter what? When the disk is clearly labeled with this UUID every time I check it why can't it be used in fstab??
Here's my fstab (I've commented out the lines that I've been trying out):
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>

    #UUID=94911fb3-def7-4440-b6a5-5e09f91b19f6 /media/disk defaults 0 0
What am I doing wrong here? I've also tried to use different options like 'rw,auto, exec' but it won't work.

It seems I'm able to mount the disk from the terminal by doing '# sudo mount UUID=94911fb3-def7-4440-b6a5-5e09f91b19f6 /media/disk'.
But this only works when I do it manually. Adding 'mount UUID=94911fb3-def7-4440-b6a5-5e09f91b19f6 /media/disk' to rc.local only gives the error that filesystem must be defined and when it's defined I get the error that device is not found.
How can it work manually, but not in fstab or rc.local?

  • 10.5.7 update: Bluetooth gone, disks won't mount

Installation of the 10.5.7 update sort of worked. My system says it installed, but I did get a message saying something like "Update was not completely succesful".
The one reason for updating was that I hoped to be able to use my wireless mouse again, which on 10.5.6 would disconnect seconds after I connected it.
Now, Bluetooth isn't even able to connect to the mouse.
So I tried to do a Combo update reinstall of 10.5.7, but then I got the message "Mounting failed". I tried a random piece of different software and got the same message.
When I double click the .dmg file, I get the message "Device not configured".
    Any solutions?

Thanks for replying. It's Apple's infamous Mighty Mouse.
Just ran Disk Utility > Repair permissions to see if that would solve anything, but no luck.
It did give warnings that the following permissions could not be repaired:
    - System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpload
    - usr/bin/setregion
    - System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versions/A/Resources/runner
    - System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/LPRIOMHelper
It's the first time ever that an OS X update has given me headaches.
