Installation Error HP Envy 7640

After downloading drivers and nearly completing the installation wizard for the HP Envy 7640, I receive an error that says the installation is unable to complete. It gives me the option to "Retry" the installation. This message occurs at the end of the installation process. The printer was previously installed, and stopped working. I uninstalled the drivers and re-downloaded them, and am now unable to complete installation.

Hey @lumaprinter!
Welcome to the HP Support Forum.
I would like to assist you with your ENVY 7640 Printer's "Device Not Responding" issue.
I have some basic troubleshooting steps that may resolve the printer's error state.
The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly, but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues and quality issues.
Secondly, restoring your printer's factory defaults may resolve the error state. Here are the steps:
From the printer's main display, touch Setup
Touch Printer Maintenance
Touch Restore
Touch Restore Factory Defaults
Once you've completed this restore, powercycle your printer again.  If the "Device Not Reponding" status persists, I would recommend contacting HP directly for technical support.
Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
Let me know how this works out for you.
Have a great day

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Stodgy70
I understand you're facing troubles when installing your Envy 5640 on a Windows Vista system.
After researching the error you're receiving, I would suggest creating a new User Account on the computer and ensuring it has Administrator Privileges, and trying the installation again from there.

  • ENVY 7640 error "There is a problem with this printer"

Hi guys. I got this printer 4 months ago and it has been working marvelous. But this weekend when I turned it on the error "There is a problem with this printer" appeared, just after it connected to my wifi network.I made several tests and the error comes only if the network is connected to the internet. When it is not connected to the internet the printer works fine (prints, scans, all via wifi).I have a MAC and an AirPort Time Capsule. Is there any set up that solves the problem?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are getting the error message, "There is a problem with this printer," with your HP Envy 7640 on Mac OS X 10.10. I am happy to help!  Is this error message showing on the printer's display screen, or on the computer screen? If the error is on the computer screen, try resetting the print system. If the error is on the printer's display screen, please try a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by . It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well. I would also double-check that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates. Hope this helps!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Envy 7640 Can't Find 'Scan Settings'

I have an Envy 7640 E-All-In-One printer, S/N: TH4B1260YY, FPU: E4W43-64001. I am currently using OS X Yosemite, v10.10.1, with no outstanding updates on a Mac mini (Late 2014), 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB RAM. There are no error messages on the device or my computer.
I have installed the printer using the HP full-featured driver, dated 2014-09-01, version 12.39, provided by the HP Support website. The setup completed successfully, the printer is working great on the wireless network, and printer features work fine. When provided the option, I also installed HP Scan. The HP Scan standalone program opens, but does not detect any devices or scanners.
On a nearby Windows 7 machine, I was able to setup the scanner and use it from the software for that OS. Scanning directly from the device and emailing the scan, as well as webscan functions also work. I am certain the issue is NOT with the device scanner itself.
I followed the troubleshooting guide found here, and completed solution #1. I was not able to complete solution #2 because in my HP Utility I do not have a "Scan Settings" option. Here is a screen grab of my HP Utility view:
I also completed solution #3 (repair disk permissions) and solution #4 (check connectivity). Both completed without issue. I then performed solution #5 (reinstall the printer software), setup the printer again without issue for printer functionality, but still do not have a scan settings in HP Utility.
    Please help!

    Hi
I understand you are having problems scanning to your Mac from the printer despite your best efforts. I'm sorry to hear that, but will certainly do all I can to help out
I would like to do a manual uninstall, follow the instructions below. I apologize in advanced this is not a fun task! I will try to make it easy to follow. Some of the files described in the following steps may not be found, if you can't find one of the files or folders on your computer, don't be alarmed, skip the step and move to the next step.
Move the files and/or folders to the trash, drag and drop
    Macintosh HD/Applications//Hewlett-Packard folder
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/ - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
In Macintosh HD/Library/Caches - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
Macintosh HD/Library/Documentation/Help/ - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
    Macintosh HD/Library/Frameworks/HPServicesInterface.framework
    Macintosh HD/Library/Frameworks/HPSmartX.framework
    Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/HP Scan Pro
In Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/Scripts - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
In Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
Move Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist to the desktop. NOTE: Not removing the file loginwindow.plist during the manual uninstall could cause the uninstall to be unsuccessful.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Printer/hp - delete folder
In Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems, drag the following folders to the trash, HP IO and HP Trap Monitor
In Macintosh HD/Users/USERNAME (this should have a symbol of a house next to it)/Library/Preferences, drag the following folders to the trash: *Any files beginning with com.apple.print, *Any files beginning with com.hp, *Any files beginning with Hewlett-Packard, *Any files beginning with HP or hp
In MacintoshHD/Users/USERNAME/Library/Printers, drag any All-in-One printers listed here into the trash.
Drag the HP icons from the Dock and drop it on an empty space on the desktop. The icon will disappear.
    Close all open windows.
    Restart.
    Empty the Trash.
After logging in, Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click  Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer .
    Restart the computer.
Install the software we download earlier, once the software is successfully installed we can then delete the loginwindow.plist from the desktop.
Download and install the full feature software again; HP-ENVY-7640-series_v12.39.0.dmg
Restart both the computer and the printer and check the HP utility for the scan options again.
I hope this helps, please let me know if this resolves the issue or not. Thanks.

    Hi MrsLoghouse,
I would like to help you print from Word on your Mac. Because you can print from other programs, I trust the issue is not actually related to the HP Printer. Damaged documents or documents that contain damaged graphics or damaged fonts can cause print errors. Before you reinstall drivers or software, test the program's ability to print.
    1. Open a new blank document in Word.
    2. On the first line of the document, type the following text: =rand(10)
    3. Press ENTER. This inserts 10 paragraphs of sample text.
    4. Try to print the document.
    5. If the document prints successfully, change to a different font, or insert clip art, a table, or a drawing object. How to troubleshoot print failures in Word for Mac, Excel for Mac or Powerpoint for Mac.
If the issue persists, I suggest you contact Microsoft, or reach out to the Microsoft Community.

  • Envy 7640

    Hi
I try to install full drivers for my HP ENVY 7640 but it fails. After a while the installprocess stopps and I get this message:
......failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
I´m admin of my PC so I don´t know what to do.
    Can you help me out?
    Persjo

    Hello Persjo,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when attempting to install the printer on to your Windows 7 computer.
I do have a few suggestions that we can try in the attempt to resolve this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If you have the printer connected to the computer with a USB cable, please remove the cable from both printer and PC and leave it disconnected until further notice.
Click on the following link for the HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.  Save the file to the desktop of the computer so that it creates its own icon.  This will make it easy to find when the download is complete.  Double click the new icon and follow the installation instructions.  You will be given connectivity options. If you choose USB, here is where you would connect to the printer and PC.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.

  • HP Envy 7640 driver won't install on Yosemite Mac OS 10.10.1

I am running MAC OS 10.10.1 (newest Yosemite update). I have downloaded the newest drivers from the hp website. I am trying to install the drivers for my new printer for the first time and the drivers will not open, as they say they're not recognized.

    Hi renee1958,
Will you please provide me with the exact error message you are receiving (or a screenshot)?
I'd also like to confirm that you are trying to download and install this file: HP-ENVY-7640-series_v12.39.0.dmg.
It sounds like you have already run ASU for the latest computer updates, but I recommend following the steps in this doc: Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X.
Let me know if that works. Thanks.

  • Envy 7640 - problems scanning

Hi. I'm trying to set up my Envy 7640. I have downloaded and successfully installed the 'all in one' driver package and can print wirelessly fine. I can't scan to my computer though through the HP scan tool (says printer is 'unavailable' even though it shows as available on HP utility and I can print to it) or from the printer itself (computer selected but I get error messages about there being no connection or HP Scan software is not installed).
My computer is a Macbook Air running Yosemite (OS X 10.10.2)
    Can anyone help?
    thanks

    Hi @chris19,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you can print but not scan with your HP Envy 7640 printer on Mac OS X 10.10 wirelessly. I am happy to help you with your scanning concerns!
To verify the printer's hardware is functioning, are you able to make copies with your printer? Copying Documents or Photos with an HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640 e-All-in-One, HP Officejet 5740 and 804....
In the meantime, I would take a look through this scanning guide, A 'No Computer Found', 'Connection Required', or 'Scan Unsuccessful' Message Displays for HP ENVY 56....
Hope this guide is helpful, and have a good day!

  • Envy 7640 and Windows 8.1 - Unable to print

I've set up my Envy 7640 so that it is connected via Ethernet cable to my wireless router. Windows 7 devices can print fine to this printer. The only way I can print a document is by sending the document to the printer via my HP ePrint e-mail address.  But I don't want to print that way because it is many more steps than printing directly, and because my output is slightly shrunken because of the PDF printing process I have to go through before I can send the e-mail. I cannot print directly from my Windows 8.1 64-bit device.  Sometimes I get a message saying the device is disabled, sometimes nothing happens at all. I have four ENVY printers shown in my "Devices and Printers" folder (even though I have one physical device), none of which work:- HP ENVY 7640 series (Direct)- HP ENVY 7640 series (Network)- HP2CFC7A (HP ENVY 7640 series)- HP ePrint.   When I try using this printer, I get a message saying "unable to communicate with printer". I went through HP's online troubleshooting guides for this problem, and nothing has helped yet.  I have done the following:- Unplugged the printer and replugged it in, but I still can't print- Restarted the computer, which caused the print queue to empty out, but I still can't print- Ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which told me  that there was "unsuccessful communicating" with all four of the printers.- I tried opening the EWS by entering the printer's IP address (192.168.1.80) in my browser, and was successful.  I was even able to print out a test page from the EWS.- I checked the ports on each printer.  It is the correct TCP/IP port for the HP ENVY 7640 series (Direct) printer.  I get an error ("Printer Properties cannot be displayed") when trying to view the port for the HP ENVY 7640 series (Network) printer.  The port for the HP2CF7A printer is WSD-f6de40d1-ae7a-403f-8b13-38027e351af.0038.  The port for the HP ePrint printer is 192.168.1.80- Removed and re-installed the print driver software multiple times. Any ideas?  I am extremely frustrated.

Hi, You've got one more than me (HP ePrint, I did not istall it but I also have Fax -)      This is my loan printer and my setup is wireless (becouse my access point is in a diferent room), I only use it for testing: I can ptint from phones (Android phones, iPhone, Windows phones), tablets (iPad, Samung Galaxy, HP 7) and over a dozen of laptops (Lenovo, HP, Dell, Asus) running Windows 7, 8.1 (I hate 8) and 10 Preview. I can use ePrint, print direct, print thru my home network and the setup took only around 10 mins for the first computer (which is my loan HP Envy 17). My suggetion: Re-intall it and select wireless to see any improvement. Regards.

  • Software Update, 10.6.6 installation error!!

Hi all, hope someone can help.
I have a Mac Pro running 10.6.5. I upgraded to 10.6.5 recently and had problems with this. When using Software Update, it would download, log out and install only to get an error at the end saying it couldn't install, with no explanation of why. I did some investigation and it boiled down to Safari (one of the updates in the list to install along with 10.6.5) wasn't being replaced. I had to delete Safari from my applications folder before updating. I tried rebuilding permissions and even installed from the installers from the apple download page. but until I deleted Safari from my apps folder it would fail every time.
Since I assumed that it was a corrupt copy of safari and all other update went ok I assumed I had fixed the problem.
Now I'm trying to install the update of 10.6.6 via Software Update. and I'm getting the same problems. It downloads, reboots, installs then at the end says that it was not installed because of an error and promps me to restart.
I have downloaded the update and run it from the desktop and it goes through the install as follows:-
    Installing
    optimizing system
    Moving files
    installation failed.
It seems that it isn't able to replace existing files on my system with new ones therefore fails the install.
Has anyone got any ideas? I have repaired permissions with disk utility and tried repairing them while booting from the 10.6.3 system disc, still no joy
    Many thanks

Worse problem here. I get the installation error then the computer attempts to reboot and I get locked at the gray background apple screen. Tried safe boot power on +SHIFT a status bar comes up and goes 3/4 away across and locks. Running permissions repair from Mac OEM disk set was no help. Had to do a time machine restore. Seems my install error is catastrophic. On the upside time machine works very well.. A bit disappointed with my Windows-esque crash

  • ITunes 12.1.1 installation errors and resolution (Win 7, 64 bit)

I am providing all of the installation errors I had experienced
and all of the methods I had tried until I finally came up with a solution.
Hopefully the details will help you see if your situation has similarities
which hopefully will make this post helpful in terms of a solution.
    PART ONE: INSTALLATION ERRORS
I received the following installation errors
when attempting to update to 12.1.1
and later once I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall 12.1.1.
I used this link for the download:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/?cid=wwa-us-kwg-music-itu
    > itunes 6464setup.exe
    I then tried this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1614
    > itunes 12.1.1 64 bit
    Again 6464 in the name.
    After uninstalling the iunes,
    I discovered under add/remove programs:
    apple application support 32 bit
    and apple support update
I deleted these and restarted the PC.
I then tried reinstalling a NEW version
    from the second link above.
    Opened download iTunes 6464setup.exe >
Windows installer> iTunes > welcome to itunes
    > next > installation options > install > user account control
    > yes > next > (error message via pop-up window):
    ERROR MESSAGE ONE
"An error occurred during installation of assembly Microsoft VC80 CRT Type ="win32",
    version = "8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b"
    processorArchitecture ="amd64".
Please refer to Help and Support
    for more information.
    HRESULT: 0X80070091"
    > OK > iTunes > Status: Starting services >
    (error message via pop-up window):
    ERROR MESSAGE 2
"Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service)
failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient permission to start system services"
    SIDE NOTE
There was a USB cable connected to the PC to charge the iPhone,
but the iPhone was not connected. I detached the USB cable from the PC in case it's relevant.
(I did not reattach the USB cable until I finally got a copy of itunes to install. You will see later in this post below.).
    I then clicked Retry.
    ERROR MESSAGE 2 AGAIN
I received the identical 'Apple Mobile Device Service' error as above.
    I then clicked Ignore.
    iTunes > Status
    > User Account Control pop-up window)
    > Do you want to allow to install Apple iTunes>
    Yes >
    > Congratulations > Finish
    > (iTunes pop-up error window):
    > iTunes Helper
    ERROR MESSAGE 3
    a)
"Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.
Please uninstall iTunes and install iTunes again.
    Error 2 "
    > (iTunes pop-up error window)
    > iTunes
    b)
"Apple Application Support was not found.
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes.
Please uninstall iTunes and install iTunes again.
    Error 2 (Windows Error 2)"
    > OK > OK
    ERROR MESSAGE 4
I received all of these errors above
when I had tried a fresh install before returning to the forum to search for answers.
When I had first tried a fresh install, I didn't get as far as the Congrats.
I only got as far as the first and second error listed above
("An error occurred during installation of assembly Microsoft VC80 CRT Type ="win32"...
AND Service 'Apple Mobile Device Service' (Apple Mobile Device Service").
Clicked on iTunes icon on desktop
    ERROR MESSAGE 5
I receive the (iTunes pop-up error message window)
error 2 windows error 2 (identical to what's listed listed under 3b).
    PART 2 - INSTALLATION RESOLUTION
    The issue finally is resolved.
    HERE IT IS!!!
    1) Uninstall iTunes
    2) check remaining Apple programs
(click control panel > programs > uninstall)
    > check the listed Apple programs
    Apple Application Support 32 bit,
    Apple Mobile Device Support,
    Apple Software Update,
    Bonjour
    3) Locate and save the correct file version of iTunes for your OS and System.
In my case, it's Win 7.
You must check for the System Type.
Computer > right click to properties > system type.
In my case its 64 bit.
The 32 bit installer is named iTunesSetup.exe,
while the 64 bit installer is named iTunes64Setup.exe.
I learned that some folks had experienced issues with
the 64 bit installer on the Apple site whether it's
because they had downloaded the 32 bit
when they needed the 64 and therefore
couldn't complete the install or in my case,
what appears to perhaps be a corrupted file that stated 6464 in the .exe file name.
This lead me to believe that finding the file with the correct file name and
correct file size to prove it authentic for that version would likely be part of
the solution if not the solution. File Hippo is one suggested means to locate the file.
I locate the iTunes download "iTunes64Setup.exe" that matched the size of the file
to a valid copy of that version of ITunes and I set it aside.
    4) I then made sure that all old copies
and remnants of iTunes and Apple software
has been uninstalled by checking add/remove.
    Then C: program files
and then C: program files (x86),
    then running CC Cleaner,
then cleaning the registry using CC Cleaner
and then checking Tools under CC Cleaner.
***I discovered under Tools that there were remaining Apple files listed
after the uninstall of iTunes and other files had taken place under iTunes***
I visit tools under CC Cleaner and deleted the remaining Apple files
including Apple Application Support, Mobile Device Support, and Bonjour,
***but I leave the Apple Software Update folder as is, in tact***
under C: Program files (x86) and Tools of CC Cleaner and under Add/Remove.
    5) I restart the computer, install the new copy of iTunes 12.1.1 (64 bit),
iTunes64Setup.exe, and it installed with zero errors.
Hope someone will find this useful. Good luck.

Try the "for older video cards" version.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Photosmart printer -all-in-one 5520 and windows 8.1 - INSTALLATION ERROR

I have a photosmart printer - model: all-in-one 5520; code number HPC57CC4  and my operating system is windows 8.1.
I had problems with the scan function and so I decided to disinstal the printer (from the Control Panel) and I even cancelled  the HP folders.
Then I tried to reinstal the printer with the original CD but I got the message: INSTALLATION ERROR - DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALL GIVES THE ERROR -536870329 FOR THE PACKAGE  C:\Program Files\HP\HP Photosmart 5520 series\DriverStore\Pipeline\hpvpl09.inf   (that's the translation from Italian)
I have tried endless times to install with the online software from the HP assistance (hppsdr.exe, hppiw.exe, ps5520_1315-1.exe, hpscan and doctor) but I always get the above error message, the system recognizes my printer, but gives the error message few seconds after starting installing it.
If i use the printer from other PCs it's ok, I've also tried both in the wireless modality and with the USB cable but the result is the same: no installation!
thanks in advance fot your help.
