Installation Error WAS 640

How to get rid of this situation,
During installtion i entered all the required passwords..Suddenly due to some problems i had to login using <sid>adm and since the password was not working i changed the password of <sid>adm and then successfuly logged in...
Now when i resume the installation it pops up the following error because i had changed the password of <sid>adm and the installtion is reading the password that i had entered during start of the installation. How to ge rid of this?

Logging with the <sid>adm ,and installation is resumed due to your <sid>adm wrong password entry ,after resetting the <sid>adm doesnt make any difference in installation,so first u have to check for the installation check is should be in the c:\programfiles\sapinst . unless u can delete the user and create a new user same <sid>adm in the NT -manage->local user and groups ,and apply the admin rights,and start the installation .

Windows Installer can really rain on your parade if it gets confused......
First thing, look in task manage for either msiexec.exe or msiinstaller.exe. If you see one of those and nothing is installing that you know of something has been hung up. You MIGHT be able to get away with killing the process and potentially rebooting.
Unfortunately, usually the system installer knows that it was in the middle of installing something and will not let you start off another installation until the current one finishes or is rolled-back.
Also, there is a windows service that should be running to allow for use of the Windows Installer Service.......

Database Tuning WAS 640 Preview Linux

Hi there,
after the installation of was 640 preview the db capacity is about 88 %.
So i try to add an additional volume with the windows database manager 7.5 .
Connecting works fine.
Configuration->Volumes shows the volumn DATA0001.
While trying to add an additional volume i got the error message "... the symbolic link does not exist...".
Questions:
1)Anybody did this operation with this "external Tool" ?
2)Is there an admin tool in the linux environment ?

This is a quick "HowTo" get the WAS 640 NOT installed:
1. Setup a linux system ( 1 hour )
2. Install the preview with the top documentation ( 2 h )
3. Find out how to connect to the server with a win gui (0,5 h)
4. Download the patches from service.sap.com ( 1 h )
5. Apply Patch level 4 ( 1 h)
6. Find out that the system hangs
7. After troubleshooting realize the log volumes are overflown ( 1h )
8. Try to tune database for log extension ( 0,5 h)
9. Realize as maxdb "newbe" that the database total crashed.
10. Setup a new database again( 1h)
11. Try to extend the data and log volumes ( 1h )
12. Find out this "top stable" database again crahed
Total time spent until now 10 h.
Decision:
13. Put the software were it belongs to ... in the waste.
14. Get a "real top product" form oracle, AP or SUN also for free BUT working
Anytime i got a lot of time to waste i try it again.

i had the same problem too.
Actually i'm installing the "Sneak Preview SAP NetWeaver 2004 Slim Edition (Java)" on Windows 2003 DomainController. In this case the relevant settings are stored in "<Location_Of_SAPINST.EXE>\ADA\control.xml", which is being copied to "<SAPINST_INSTDIR>\j2ee_wp\installdefault\" during installation.
Before i started a new installation i searched the original "control.xml" for String "LocalAdmin".
I replaced:
'name:host + "
SAP_LocalAdmin"'
with
'name:this.getDomain() + "
SAP_LocalAdmin"'
and
'name:host + "
SAP_" + this.getSID() + "_LocalAdmin"'
with
'name:this.getDomain() + "
SAP_" + this.getSID() + "_LocalAdmin"'
The installation is still running at the moment, but far behind that point where the error always came up.
For me it looks very good.
SAP says installation on a DC is not supported, which not means that it would be impossible.
Remember to edit the "control.xml" at it's original location BEFORE you start the installation.

Error while applying Java Patch 16 on WAS 640 ABAP+JAVA

I am in process of applying Patch 16 to my BW 3.5 WAS 640 ABAP+JAVA systems. I have successfully applied ABAP patch level to 16. Now I am applying to J2EE Patch 16 to system. I did prerequisite check and everything is okay. Platform - Sun Solaris 9, Oracle 9.2.0.6. When I click on apply Patch 16, it goes thru central instance profile, java home directory okay. After this it is asking me to supply file for JCE and I gave path for file "jce_policy-1_4_2.zip". after that it extracts this file to Java_home/jre and at point when it tries to extract visual.dat, it throws following error :

Hello Digesh,
The firt thing please go to os level prompt for <SID>adm user and type echo $JAVA_HOME. What is the value that is reflected after issuing the above.
Also please check that your SAP-J2EE instance is running properly or not.
The JCE is used for Weak and strong encryption.
Also please check the instance.properties file. Does it contain proper parameter as per your SAP installation.

This look like a problem with the installation target, seems like somehow the installation can't find or deal with the mounted volumne.
Are you trying to install WAS in an external device/storage?

The limit of my resources has been reached in the attempt to install either of the 2 Sappress CD's either WAS62 or WAS64, neither of which functions.
The brief period of functionality that was reached - only in 64, never in 62 - after my investing an enormous amount of time ended after some 3 weeks with an "error" in the log concerning "licence": now that was like a slap in the face! I paid for the books; I bought the recommended RAM for over 500 euros and its like the book burst into flames in my hands!
Links mentioned in the SDN forum result in my being blocked as not "authorized".
The SAPPRESS forum has not produced aid.
I therefore have a positive suggestion to make: that anyone who reads this and who has managed to install - particularly under MS Windows - might put information in www.wiki.com. The page is "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAS".
Many people find precision faster than any one of us I believe.
I believe that using this suggestion will save many of us much time and increase our skills.

Hi David, I'm sorry you had so much trouble with the installs, here on SDN we have many users who may made weblogs with tips, help and suggestions for getting the installs accomplished.
Adding all the info to a Wiki page would of course be nice but we'd need to make a new page since the "WAS" page there is all about WebSphere from IBM and the fact that we are implementing a Wiki here on SDN in the near future.

Second, check the database if you've enough storage space left.

After installing Trend Macro antivirus, I was unable to install any plugins. I get an "Unexpected Installation Error" message at the end of the installation. Closing the anti-virus does not help.

I have purchased Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security and am now unable to install any plugins. I have had these plugins before and had no trouble with them but now they have disappeared. I tried closing the antivirus and added mozilla.org to the exceptions list but it did not help.

Apparently, security programs like Macafee and Norton view Itunes updates as new programs and block then from access. If you add Itunes to the list of exemptions, it solves the problem.

I have just converted to windows 7 using labview 2012 and am trying to build an application installer. The application builds without error but the installer ha the following error:
It appears that the installer has a problem adding the xlsx file to the install directory but the file does exist and used to work when building under 8.6.

I have the problem with installer, when I had installed a new toolkit or update anything, after it I cannot build an installer. I have activated all my product again, repair labview, the previous time I had to uninstall all products of NI and install again, but I cant do it all the time.
