Installation error with 9.2 deleting older version of Apple Software Update

Have tried installing directly from Apple.com and have tried downloading and
then installing. Get the error with either method. Have even tried to install
Quick Time standalone directly and from a Quick Time download with same error.
I've even tried ALL Apple's trouble shooting methods to no avail. When I attempt to remove most of the programs with windows the error received is network resource is unavailable. Even when I remove/delete etc following Apple's trouble shooting I hit a brick wall and am hoping for advice/solutions.

When I attempt to remove most of the programs with windows the error received is network resource is unavailable.
Doublechecking, Mister Russell. Is it also saying that the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi is missing?

  • Unable to delete older version of Apple Software update

hello! when i go to download the new i-tunes program (9.0) i get the following message: "the older version of apple software update can't be removed. contact your technical support". I realize this is an apple forum but has anyone experienced this on their PC? I tried Add/Remove programs and it just won't go away! Any advice?

    (1) First in this reply, let's attend to the technical troubleshooting:
"the older version of apple software update can't be removed. contact your technical support". I tried Add/Remove programs and it just won't go away!
With those symptoms, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301]
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select any *Apple Software Update* entries and click "Remove".
Next we'll clear away the leftover Apple Software Update files and folders.
Go "Start > My Computer". Open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your program files are installed on. Open "Program Files". Right-click the "Apple Software Update" folder and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
Now download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, and try another iTunes install:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that iTunes install go through properly this time? (It should also reinstall Apple Software Update for you.)
    (2) Now we'll attend to the small miracle that someone has posted *a genuine question about the Apple Software Update for Windows program* in this forum:
I realize this is an apple forum but has anyone experienced this on their PC?
*:) No, no! You've come to exactly the right place! You're literally the first person in over a month to have posted a question about Apple Software Update for Windows in this forum,* which is supposed to be a place to troubleshoot problems with the very program (on the very same PCs) you have posted about. We cherish your presence here!

When installing the new iTunes software, the message : "the older version of apple software update cannot be removed." What should I do? I tried deleting files related through control panel or the manual way, but it doesn't work. Am I missing something?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does it go through properly this time?

  • Trying to re-install itunes error message "the older version of Apple software update cannot be removed" ?

Unable to re-install itunes as error message appears "The Older Version Of Apple Software Update Cannot Be Removed"
Been to control panel and found apple software update but still unable to remove   Help!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • How do I delete an older version of Apple Software Update

When I try to install iTunes 10 I get the message "The older version of Apple Software Update can't be removed. Contact your technical support group." (which is me). After clicking "Ok" a dialogue box says "Itunes Installer Interrupted." "The installer was interrupted before teh requested operations for Itune could be completed." Your system has not been modified. To complete these operations at a later time, please installer again." "Click finish to exit the installer." The same result when I restart & run it again. I ran "WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86" repair patch, and checked the registery to verify that "Windows ® Installer. V 4.5.6001.22159" is installed.
    Now what?

many thanks. Most likely damaged installation configuration information for your "existing" copy, then.

okay. first head into your Add/Remove programs and try to uninstall Apple Software Update.
if Add/Remove won't let you uninstall Apple Software Update, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. run the utility and select Apple Software Update in the list of entries that show up in CleanUp. click "Remove". (that will clear the Apple Software Update installation configuration information.)

  • The older version of Apple Software Update Cannot be removed-WinXP

I have followed every step from the support site concerning completely removing iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, and Apple Software Update to no avail.
I then went and through the installation of the following tools to clean any remaining elements from my system.
installed and ran Windows Install Clean Up
    Installed and ran  Revo Unistaller
I went to the Apple site and downloaded a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5 and ran the install, all went well until the following message appeared.
The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed.
This indicated to me that I must have some lingering components on the system that the installer sees and I cannot find.
I went back through the registry and searched for any entries having to do with Apple, Bonjour, Qwicktime and removed any and all.
Still the same error.  So this is where it sits,
    Any additional suggestions from anyone?

I have done the exact same steps as Drewfromlacenter over the past week.  Also to no avail.  Same message about the older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed, and it tells me to contact my Technical Support Group.  Who is that anyway??  Any suggestions where we go from here?

  • An older version of Apple Software Update could not be removed

when trying to upgrade to itunes 8 i get an error saying "An older version of Apple Software Update could not be removed. Contact your technical support group."

Polydorus, you just saved me a lot of (additional) heartburn. I had to do a system restore to rid myself of a virus, and afterwards, somehow all my Apple products entered a state of suspended animation - they were neither there nor not there. They were still listed in the programs and all the shortcuts remained, but clicking the icons led to an error message stating the programs were gone. I couldn't do a reinstall because it said an older version could not be removed, yet I couldn't uninstall them via the Add/Remove program function - "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". Delving further, I was told "the installation source for this product is not available. verify that the source exists and that you can access it." I was nearly apoplectic.
Your direction to use Windows Install Clean Up worked perfectly. iTunes et al are back and all my songs are right where I left them.
    I am so grateful.

  • I can't install Itunes (The older version of Apple Software Update...)

I try to reinstall Itunes many times, but this message keep popping up :''The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group''. So I google the problem, and tried many solutions that people says like use windows installer cleanup utility (and it says we're sorry, we encountered an expected problem downloading one or more components and can't run the troubleshooter right now. Please try again later) , delete ASU from add/remove control panel (It says The installation source of this product is unavailable. Verify that source exists and that you can access it).
Please help ~ What should I do?!? T.T

I have the same problem as yours too. It always says ''The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group''.
