Installation from .7 (HOWTO)

Installing from .7 got you down? Can't figure out what to do? Borka borka?
Have no fear....
1) Install with the 0.7 base install. Proceed with the install as normal. During the configuration of files section, I prefer to use vi. Make needed changes. An important aspect is..even if you see nothing changed in the file, do a :wq to 'touch' the file. This seems to iron out one potential snafu down the road.
Also, make sure you choose to install udev as well as devfs.
2) Reboot into your 0.7 installation. Login as root (no password).
3) pacman -Syu
It will upgrade pacman first. Say yes.
4) play it again sam.. pacman -Syu --force
The --force solved an issue I was having with pacman finding a file in common with another package. doh.
DO NOT REBOOT YET!!!
5) type the command 'migrate_udev'
It should be done by the upgrade, but it makes me feel better knowing you did it anyway.
6) Edit your grub config (lilo config).
In grub, change '/dev/discs/disc3' or whatever..to '/dev/hda3'
If you have a sata drive, or a scsi disk, then use /dev/sda3. note that the 3 could be a different number. Use the appropriate number.
7) modify /etc/fstab
Perform the same /dev/discs/disc3 conversion to /dev/hda3 (or sda3) that you performed above, for your mount points.
8 ) udev
type the command 'udev' to test and see if udev is setup/configured/happy. If you get no 'omg! run!' output, then you should be golden.
9) reboot
10) Login with root again, and set a password..
You can remove devfs now. 'pacman -R devfs'
Go about your normal system usage/installation now.
11) Hug your arch devs.

I tried the method explaint above. But after the part of packages/kernel/bootloader I get stuck. I'm suposed to this
pacman -Syu
Then I noticed I didn't configured my config files yet. But I have totally no experience with writing a whole ethernet connection with editors...
Can someone please help me?
I connect thru a router (192.168.1.1) and I use a USB Ethernet Adapter to connect. I wan't to use DHCP.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I would like to get an easier step-based installation guide, please I know a bit about commandline, but I prefer a WM, so could you also explain the easiest way to install KDE/Gnome?

Remove windows Installation from Old WD hard drive and Install Fresh Copy on the New One.

Hi Community! I just bought a new WD Blue 1 TB hard drive, my old hard drive is WD Blue caviar 500 GB, running on Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.
There are two things I wish to do: 1. Firstly, if it's possible, I would like to copy some videos, images, music etc. from my OLD Drive to the new one.
Please note that, I don't have an external disk to do it, I know that would've been less complicated, but that's not an option at this point. 2. Secondly, once that is done, if possible, I want to remove windows 7 installation from my old hard drive, re-partition it to make it just the storage drive, and finally install
fresh copy of windows 7- 64 bit to the new Hard drive.
Please note that, my old Hard drive is installed on windows 7- 32 bit and now I want to install a fresh copy of Windows 7-64bit instead of 32bit, because I am upgrading my
configuration with better ones.
I am adding 4 GB corsair vengeance ram to my 2 GB corsair ram, so that is 6 GB in total.
I am adding 1 TB hard disk to my 500 GB Hard disk, so that is 1500 GB.

Since you don't want to clone the drive (I agree with you), you can just swap drives and install Windows on the new drive. Windows won't complain that you are installing on a different drive because it only cares if you change more than one piece of hardware at a time. The problem will arise when you copy the files from the old drive because you cannot just connect it via SATA. That would confuse Windows, as both installations were run on that hardware. You need to mount it in an external dock via USB 2.0/3.0 which will isolate the details of the OS. After you copy all necessary files, you can use WDC Lifeguard to write zeros to the entire disk and then create a new partition. After that you can mount it via SATA because it will be a new drive. Do NOT be in a hurry to wipe the drive however, as you don't want to forget something.

I encountered the same exact problem when I attempted to re-installed OSX Lion on an old laptop. The date was set back in 2000, which rendered the certificate obsolete. Here's how I fixed it:
From the recovery menu, select the Terminal application. Run the 'date' command to confirm the date is wrong, then set the correct date using this command: date {month}{day}{hour}{minute}{year}
e.g. date 1219195613
Exit terminal (type exit). Retry the installation.

ITunes installation from CD

I know someone with a Dial-Up modem connection that wants to get the latest version of iTunes installed on their computer. Rather than having them sit for hours to download over dial-up is there a way for me to get the iTunes software (PC or Mac) from the Apple Web site and put it on CD or DVD? I have a high-speed internet connection so not an issue.
Any help would be appreciated.

Save it to a CD or memory stick.
Copy the file to your friends desktop and run the installer from there.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Solaris 8 is not available from sunfreeware, only additional freeware packages to be loaded after Solaris is installed. Solaris 8 can be downloaded and "burned" to CD from : http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html

Please note that while you are downgrading by uninstalling and reinstalling and then restoring backup taken from 2012 enterprise to standard , if backup contains data about used enterprise features you would not be able to restore the backup so BE
CAREFUL.
You should , if possible, get a new box install SQL Server standard and try restoring backup if it fails disable enterprise features and again take backup and then you would be able to restore.

We are facing the below issue when performing a homogeneous system copy of NW 7.0 system using backup/restore method for DB6 system.
The Java load in database <SID>/<hostname> has not been configured yet. You cannot run an installation from the System Copy folder with this load.
We went through the SAP Note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/2049842, and followed the same but no luck.
We updated the Kernel to the latest, but still no luck.
Request for your quick help as we have to complete it by EOD today.

Template Installer from Java to BI error in SLD

Hello Gurus,
I've install my BI system system (ABAP Only) and my Portal system (Java Only). Now I'm running the template installer from http://host:53800/nwa.
I'm getting an error at the very first step "Test SLD connection:It was not possible to test the SLD system (SLD_HOST) with the user (SLD_ADMIN) and its password ".
The anoying thing is, I can see that both system (BI & Portal) are registered in the SLD, when checking the "visual administrator -> "SID" -> Server xx -> Services -> Configuration adaptor -> CTC -> Propertysheet " I can see that the user is SLDDSUSER and and is pointing to the correct host & port.
In SM59 I've create the RFC pointing to the already created JCO.
In http://host:53800/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tcwdtools/Explorer, when running the test, I can see that is pointing to the SLD in the portal system and not my SLD.
I went trough OSS note 983156 and follow it.
Does anybody have any idea about this?

This error has suprised me in a lot of ways: 1) it was my 10th, or 20th or ... installation of Exchange on to the same test VM and this error has never arised before, 2) it's rather tardy error as Step1 and Step2 completed successfully in spite of

It looks like the installation files are being shared over a terminal services connection (based on what you are saying, I'm guessing you're using Hyper-v and it's using TS to present the files). I always run into mixed results when I run installs from
a path not local to the server. Can you copy the install paths locally and rerun setup?

Uninstaller utility does not remove the installation from the registry

In our environment, we publish a script in Group Policy so that both the ActiveX and Plugin installs for flash player are easily installed for staff that have limited user access on their computers. I usually remove or replace the old MSI files from the path the above script installs from when I get new versions of Flash Player. For a while, I've run into a problem where when the new MSI files are installed, they try to uninstall the existing installation and fail because the old MSI file is no longer at the original installation source path. I've tried to remedy this by having the script use the uninstall_flash_player utility to manually remove the activex and plugin first, but this utility does not remove the installation details of each from the registry, and the subsequent installations of the MSI files fail. I have to uninstall the existing flash player installations first or perform a registry hack to formally remove the installation from Windows, and then the new installation will succeed.
Does anybody have any advice for making this process work better? Would this be considered a bug with the uninstaller tool?
