Installation from Windows with a'n closed Display

Hi, i have a big problem.
On my Macbook pro ist the display broken and i must install windows with an extern TFT. Under Mac OSX is that not a Problem, it switch to the extern display.
The installation-procedure from Windows activate the internal display (that was at me broken).
Is there any hints or tips, so that i can install Windows with bootcamp on an externeal display?

I doubt this is possible, and even if it was, it would not be advisable to use an OS that was installed on one computer, then move the installation to a computer with a different processor architecture. Doing that is asking for trouble.

Macbook Pro repeatedly waking from sleep with the clamshell closed

This is the second of two Macbook Pros that have inexplicably begun waking themselves from sleep with the clamshell closed. This continues until I either reboot, or unplug the power cord. Yes, that's right, unplugging the power cord stops the behavior EVERY TIME. The system log shows the reason for waking up as being: EHC1, EHC2 (USB Ports), however there is nothing plugged into the computer.
The first computer was replaced under warranty by Apple when they couldn't diagnose or fix the problem. This computer, however, is out of warranty. Any suggestions outside of the obvious (reinstall system software, repair permissions, check power management settings, etc) would be helpful.

Thank you for the very comprehensive list of possibilities. There are no wake events scheduled and even if there were, the fact that it happens randomly rules that possibility out. I originally thought (when it started to happen with my first Macbook Pro) that it had something to do with the power manager due to my recent installation of Alarm Clock Pro, which requires the user to wake the computer before the alarm goes off. However, after a complete wipe and fresh install of the OS (with no apps installed), it continued to wake itself up.
I greatly appreciate you clueing me in on the fact that the USB ports are not powered while asleep when the power cord is unattached. I did not know this and even the Applecare folks failed to mention it when they were troubleshooting it.
I don't use Bluetooth and always leave it off. However, I had heard that this was a symptom of Bluetooth becoming unavailable so I checked when this started happening and my Bluetooth is unaffected (I even turned it on and paired something to be sure).
I never plug a printer into the USB ports as I always use Bonjour with a printer plugged into Airport.
Thanks again for your suggestions. I will read those threads again. perhaps I missed something the first time.

Slow installation from Windows-7 made installer

Hi
I run Labview 2011 on several development machines.
Recently I tried a newly built installer from a Windows 7 32 Bit professional on an Windows XP-Professional.
The installation would not even run, but slug (if that words exists) along with lots of disk access many many minutes.
Alarmed I cross-checked on the Win7 where it would run smoothly.
I then made a very simple Hello-World-Project with just a single vi. It showed the same behaviour.
All Microsoft or NI updates should have been updated by then.
Has anybody come across a similar problem?
I'd appreciate a comment.

i builded an installer with a little programm and the LabVIEW Runtime. It took 3 minutes to install the Programm (LabVIEW Runtime was allready installed on the computer). The Installation Time depends on the size of your code and the additional Software which you embed in in your installer.
The installation of the Runtime could take some minutes, because there will be installed several libraries, to run all kinds of LabVIEW programms.
If you have allready installed the LabVIEW Runtime, the installation should only take some minutes.

Accessing ext3 partitions from Windows with FS Driver

Hi everyone,
I have a slight probem. I'm dual-booting ArchLinux and Windows. Here is my partition scheme:
/dev/sda1 (NTFS) Lenovo Recovery partition
/dev/sda2 (NTFS) Windows
/dev/sda3 (ext2) /boot
/dev/sda5 (JFS) /
/dev/sda6 (JFS) /home
/dev/sda7 (ext3) [documents] partition mounted on /media/data
/dev/sda8 (swap) swap
Everything works fine on the Linux side (of course).
The problem is that I use http://www.fs-driver.org/ to access my documents (/dev/sda7) from Windows.
This worked fine (I was using Kubuntu) but now I had to format the disk in order to install ArchLinux and FS Driver would not recognize the "documents" partition.
I think it might be because the partition is not PRIMARY but LOGICAL. Is there a way to fix this without reformatting everything (just formatting /dev/sda7 is fine with me) ?

Hi, I just stumbled across this one and thought I'd throw in my two cents....
Something I've found about windows is that it's -very- picky about partition sizes.
For instance, on a new system of mine, I did dual booting windows/Linux from partitions on the same hard drive.
The windows partition was first. After creating my Linux partitions, windows would no longer boot, said the partition table was corrupt.
(All partitions were primary)
The solution? I created my Linux partitions using windows tools (which wasted around 10Gigs of hard drive space) and finished them off with linux tools.
Everything worked fine then.
Bottom line, Linux can use partition sizes that (some?) windows will refuse to use.
You should be able to simply remove the last 2 partitions (sda7 and sda8). Any partitioner should work (gparted, cfdisk, windows logical disk manager). Don't forget to move your documents. If you do this from your installed Linux system, don't forget to disable your swap space or you won't be able to remove that partition.
...might also need to unmount /dev/sda7 to use cfdisk... I think gparted does this automatically but don't quote me on that one...
Then you can recreate the last two partitions using windows. Then use Linux to set their types, format them, and restore your documents.
Just to simplify things with the swap space, it's probably easier to use a live distro than your installed Linux.
If your fstab uses UUID's, don't forget to update as formatting will assign new UUID's to the partitions.
... should solve at least half the problem.

You want to know if you can install SAP in windows with the DB under Unix?... the answer is yes.
You can have DB and CI in different servers, you need to install the database instance first under you unix box and then install the central instance under windows...

Problem launching Firefox from Windows with file path that contains space characters in the html file's file name

We have a software application that programmatically launches the default web browser using the Windows shell execute function ("ShellExecuteA" in the "shell32.dll" library of the Windows API) along with a file path for a saved local html file that is to be displayed. In the case that FireFox is the default browser and the file path for the html file contains any space characters in the html file's file name, Firefox (in this case v7.01) will display an error message "File not Found..." and then will also proceed to open tabs for each of the individual words in the file name, launching as the URL path, each individual word appended to ".com".
In the following example, the path "C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\Kansas Secretary of State - Filings and Forms.htm" when launched programmatically, resulted in the error message "File not Found...Firefox can't find the file at /C:/KSSecOfState/Forms/Kansas." and opened up browser windows for "http://www.secretary.com/", "http://www.of.com/", "http://www.state.com/", "http://www.and.com/", and attempted to launch "http://forms.htm". If the same file (renamed) is launched using the path string "C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\KansasSecretaryOfState-FilingsAndForms.htm" the file opens up correctly in Firefox. Clearly the presence of spaces in the file name is causing the problem.
I should also note that either path (with or without space characters) works properly if pasted directly into the Firefox URL path menu bar for a live instance of Firefox. The test path strings I used were:
C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\KansasSecretaryOfState-FilingsAndForms.htm
C:\KSSecOfState\Forms\Kansas Secretary of State - Filings and Forms.htm
Does anyone know anything about this problem or how to work around it (other than the obvious answer of taking the spaces out of the file name which is not possible for this application). It seems the problem is specific to Firefox. IE works properly if launched programmatically with spaces in the file name passed to it. I haven't tested other browsers yet.

Using a previous installation of Windows with Bootcamp

I wondering if this is possible. We have a Dell 64bit machine that had some hardware failure so the user has sent up a purchase order for a new MacPro. His hard drive, with Windows XP Pro SP2 64bit, is fine and contains his installation of the Adobe CS2 Suite, MacroMedia Studio Suite and most importantly 3D Studio Max. What we're wondering is this, since we don't have an Intel-based Mac here to test with, can we install the SATA drive from the Dell into the MacPro and have the startup see the Windows installation on the secondary drive. If this is possible this would save a lot of time not to mention the transition from 3D Studio Max to Maya. I didn't see anything like this in the discussion but if someone has some information or a link to a previous discussion that would be great. Thanks for any help offered!

Sharing files from windows with mountain lion

SINCE THE RELEASE OF LION AND MOUNTAIN LION. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PROPERLY SHARE FILES FROM MY MACBOOK PRO (MID 2009) TO MY WINDOWS DESKTOP (VISTA HOME PREMIUM) WITHOUT LOGGING IN AS A GUEST. I PRESS CTRL+K ON MY MAC, I TYPE IN SMB://IP ADDRESS (NOT GOING TO SAY EXACTLY MY IP IS) AND A LOGIN SCREEN POPS UP. IT ASKS FOR A USER NAME AND PASSWORD. I USED TO ABLE TO LOGIN WITH MY USER NAME THAT'S ON MY MAC AND NO PASSWORD. HOWEVER; SINCE LION AND MOUNTAIN LION HAVE BEEN RELEASED I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO LOOK INTO MY WINDOWS FROM MY MAC AS A GUEST. I NEED HELP FIGURING OUT WHY IM BEING FORCED TO USE GUEST.

Open Keychain Access App, it is in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Then look through it for entries for your PC, Like username and or name of PC.
But in the end I don't really think that is going to solve your problem. Like everything with computers at any time something can get screwed up and it happens mostly when you are Upgrading to a New OS over the top of an older OS. This happen with Windows and Mac OS X.
So if my suggestion has no affect on you being able to log in to a Real User Account on the Win PC then it is something that happened durring the upgrade from you older version of OS X to Mt Lion. About the only way to correct that is to wipe the drive and reinstall clean. you can then use a current Time Machine backup to restore just your Files, Programs and Setting from that backup without overwriting the system files of that new install of Mt Lion.

Howto push option-key from windows with VNC?

I want to use OsX's internal VNC-server, so no 3rd party server software, please!
Tight VNC has been nicest client with windows, good zooming etc.
But how to use keyboard shortcuts with option-button?
Alt-button in windows client interprets itself as command-key to Mac and AltGr in win is Alt for Mac.
For example to reset Qmaster Preferences' services, you'll have to hover mouse on "Start Sharing" button and push Option to change the button to "Reset Services".
(I know that qmaster can be reset from command line, but there's lots of other uses for option-key also...)
Is there any way to do this?
Also it would be nice to have international keyboards supported in VNC.

The Mac OS X built-in VNC server works very well with the Mac OS X Screen Sharing application, however, I have found it does not play all that nice with every VNC client in the world.
However, the Vine Server has been around for a long time, works very well, uses the TightVNC protocols, and gives very good performance. I still use the Vine Server on my Mom's iMac connecting with my client configured for reduced colors and I get very good performance across slow internet connections.
Give the Vine Server a try. You can choose to run it as port 5900, or run it in parallel with the Mac OS X VNC server by configuring the Vine Server for port 5901 (or any port you want).

Create installer from Windows

Hello there!
I have only one Mac and a few Windows. My MacBook Pro disk broke up 3 days ago. I replaced, the disk and can´t install the OS. I made the recovery USB a few months ago, but when run, it tries to download a copy of Mountain Lion from Internet and after a while, it states it is not available anymore.
Now, is there a way to download (from win) a copy of Yosemite USB installer or even DVD so I burn there and have my Mac running? If it helps, I have iPhone, iPad, AppleTV as well, but can´t download from there.

Retrieving all UI Elements from window with Applescript

Hi All..
I want to retrieve all the ui elements from one of the window in runtime with Applescript.
The problem is in order to get the elements of the particular window i need to pass thru the hierarchy like UI element 1 of scroll area 1 of window 1 etc..
How do i get the hierarchy at the runtime??
For eg: if the hierarchy level is 3, i can get the UI elemets like.. ui elements of ui elements of ui elements of window 1.. this works fine
but i want to repeat the same statement in loop, till i get some elements, how do i achieve the same??

You will get a button to each line (the last line will be empty).
Here is an example of the result :

Made the switch from Windows with a new iMac now my iPhone won't sync with erasing

Hello!
        I migrated from an older PC to a new iMac and when I try to sync my iPhone (which was synced on the old PC ) it wants to erase all my iPhones (3GS) data in favor of what currently on the iMac's/iTunes.
        I deauturized my iTunes account on the old PC before switching, was there something else I may have missed?
        I'd like to be able to import all the app and music tht's currently on my iPhone into my new iMac/iTunes.
        Is there a way to acheive this?
        BTW I LOVE MY IMAC!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac following the instructions included with this link, no iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your Mac.

Can't print from Windows with Parallels off MacBookPro

I'm printing to a new HP Photosmart C4100, of course the Mac
side prints just fine. I've enabled print sharing on both sides.
The Windows VM sees the printer and the "sharing hand" appears
under the printer icon. I am not on a network, just the MacBookPro
and the printer connected to a USB port.
When I try and print out of Windows, the document goes into
the printing que and just sits there, the printing que says its "ready".
Can't help but think I've just got a setting wrong.
Any help will be appreciated.
