Installation from ZIP or native package??

Hi guys,
i have installed DSEE 6.3 from ZIP package for Solaris 9 Sparc and all the components are working fine...
But i came to know that the "directoryserver" command is not present under /usr/bin...
The unix guys feel that maybe the Native package has some more platform specific commands...is it so?
I have done all the administration using dsadm, dpadm,dsconf and dpconf commands and everything is setup fine...
Now should i remove my installtion and redo with a native package - if any commands are missed out in ZIP package...
Thanks...

Hi.
/usr/bin/directoryserver was a 5.x command. It does not exist anymore in 6.x.
The previous post describes additional features of the ZIP delivery. Here are the additional features of the native delivery:
- commands to manage rc scripts on Solaris 9 (dsadm/dpadm autostart) or SMF on Solaris 10 (dsadm/dpadm enable-service)
- ability to deploy DSCC in Sun Java Web Console

Carole.

• Can an AIR application be packaged and launched from inside a Native Android Application

Hello,
I work for a company that has an AIR application/game. We are currently developing an Android native application and would like to strip out the AIR game and include it with the native application, we would like to be able to launch the game from within the native Android application. How would this be done?

• Packaging Linux AIR app as a native package (.deb)?

Ok, so I've been tasked with packaging an AIR app in a system package. We got a redistrubution license for AIR so I think we are good in that respect but I run into an unfortunate predicament when trying to do a silent install from a deb:
Both AIR runtime and AIR applicaiton generate a native package (.deb in this case) during install. So even though I can run silent install from my own deb, it fails to install as it cannot install a deb during installation of a deb. I am assuming that even if I could somehow grab the generated deb file, it would be against the license agreement to do so.
So, any thoughts as to how to get this accomplished? Is there an alternative distribution of an app that comes as a native ".deb" file? Or is there a command line option that disables a native package management install? ( I can seem to find no information on any command line options for the bin installer)
Thanks.

• Native Packages

Hi,
I am quite new to the Oracle IDAM Suite. While going through the ODSE Installation Document, I found a section which talked about the Native Installation packages for Solaris.
Are there any Pros-Cons tagged with the native packages? Also does that mean we cannot install .zip on Solaris?

Hi,
On Solaris, you can choose between native packages and zip distribution.
It is really up to you, depending on the way to want to manage your system.
The following link compares the 2 installation modes : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20295_01/html/821-1218/giwku.html#scrolltoc

• JavaFX Native Packaging

The JavaFX team has implemented a major new feature for JavaFX 2.2.
Native Packaging uses JavaFX packaging tools to create native bundles for executables, installers and zip files of JavaFX applications (including Java + JavaFX runtimes).
Igor has written a blog on how to use the new feature:
https://blogs.oracle.com/talkingjavadeployment/entry/native_packaging_for_javafx
Give the new feature a spin and log any issues: http://javafx-jira.kenai.com
Not sure of the best way to communicate feedback and suggestions, but you can do that via either this thread or the openjfx mailing list:
http://mail.openjdk.java.net/mailman/listinfo/openjfx-dev

There is information on embedding JavaFX in NetBeans as a NetBeans module in this blog post:
https://blogs.oracle.com/geertjan/entry/javafx_browser_as_a_ready
The official name for Native Packaging is now Self Contained Application.
I do not know how to set a NetBeans application up as a self contained application as I have little experience with NetBeans.
My guess, from your post, is that NetBeans has it's own packaging system for constructing distribution bundles of applications built on the NetBeans platform. Perhaps in this case, rather than packaging primarily with the javafx tools, the packaging should performed by a version of the existing NetBeans packaging system which has been enhanced to support JavaFX modules built on the NetBeans platform. This seems to be the approach you are taking already, but I cannot provide pointers on what changes you would need to make to the NetBeans packager.
Perhaps posts on NetBeans developer forums may yield better answers.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select
/var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

• Solaris 8 - Installation from network

Hi,
Can I to install Solaris 8 from network, booting installation from diskette?
I have the packages downloaded from www.sunfreeware.com in my disk, but no encountred how install this SO.
Thank you.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Solaris 8 is not available from sunfreeware, only additional freeware packages to be loaded after Solaris is installed. Solaris 8 can be downloaded and "burned" to CD from : http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html

• Single instance app with native packaging

Is there any way to allow only one instance of the app to run with javafx2 native packaging? Like an attribute in the build.xml or something?
I'm using the .exe for windows and the .dmg for mac.
Appreciate your help.

There is no simple deployment build switch that I know of for achieving a single instance app.
A couple of ideas (none of which I have tried).
Perhaps you could use the SingleInstanceService:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/java/fxbest-1583679.html "Ensuring Only One Instance of the Application Is Started"
http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/examples.html#SingleInstanceService "SingleInstanceService"
It is a jnlp api based service though and I'm not sure if such a service would be available to a packaged app (maybe it would require including the jre/lib/javaws.jar file with your app or something like that).
You could write out a lock file when the app starts.
On unix (i.e. mac/linux) the lock could include the process pid for your app. On startup, check if there is a process with the lock pid currently running, if so, don't startup and perhaps send an interrupt signal to the existing app notifying it that the user tried to start a new instance.
On windows you could read and write the lock value value from the registry.
To get rid of the OS specific stuff surrounding this, perhaps this kind of lock logic could be implemented using the Java Preferences API:
http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/preferences/index.html
Intellij Idea is open source and and seems to have this kind of functionality, so you could check how they do it.

• How do I prevent Mail from Zipping the attachment?

When I send a .pages file by e-mail, Mail zips the file to .pages.zip.
The network software at this University blocks .zip. How do I prevent Mail from zipping the file? I tried turning off the "send windows-friendly", but but still zips.

Assuming this is iWork '08 or earlier, the "documents" are actually packages. A package is really a folder hierarchy. A folder cannot be emailed unless it is archived somehow. Mail does this automatically; most other email programs would be incapable of sending a bare Pages document at all.
You could use some other non-blocked archive format, like tar or StuffIt. Or maybe you could rename it so that the mail servers don't recognize it as zip. You would have to instruct your recipient to rename it back. I understand that iWork '09 archives documents by default, although they are not named .zip, so that should be no longer an issue.

• Installation failing due to invalid packages

During installation of Oracle 10G designer the repository installation fails due to invalid packages. When I examine the packages they are failing to compile based on dependencies on dbms_lock. I am running against a fresh installation of 11g on the database. I verified that the package exists and a public synonym has been created but I cannot see the package from any other user aside from sys. (system cannot see the package).
Is there anyway I can open up sys.dbms_lock to allow it to be used in compiling these objects?

How did you create the repository?
Did you follow the steps of the installation guide?
In this guide you find the folloiwing statements:
grant execute on dbms_rls to repos_owner;
grant execute on dbms_lock to repos_owner;
grant execute on dbms_pipe to repos_owner;
grant create table to repos_owner;
grant create view to repos_owner;
grant create procedure to repos_owner;
grant create synonym to repos_owner;
grant create sequence to repos_owner;
grant select on sys.v_$nls_parameters to repos_owner with grant option;
grant select on sys.v_$parameter to repos_owner;
grant select on dba_rollback_segs to repos_owner;
grant select on dba_segments to repos_owner;
grant create any synonym to repos_owner;
grant drop any synonym to repos_owner;
In the statement you will see that the dbms_lock package is granted to the repos_owner. (repos_owner is the username of the repository owner, if you installed under a different user use that username)

Pass "/Debug" option to the .exe launcher to see console output. This typically helps to see root cause of the failure (pretty much the same as exe file you are referring too, where this option was on by default). How are you loading XML file and where it is kept in the package?
For another problem. Set JAVAFX_ANT_DEBUG=true before you build and this will keep the working directory.
Then try to launch same iscc.exe command from command line? Did it work? what will be exit code?
iscc sometimes report weird exit codes but otherwise "exit code 2" generally means some file is missing.
Also, add exec task to your build.xml that simply runs "iscc /?". Does it work?
If you are confident it is a bug please file JIRA issue.

• Accessing a dll from classes in different packages

Hello java community,
I am new to Java and especially the jni so your help is greatly appreciated.
I am having trouble accessing a Windows native dll from classes in different packages. I placed the .dll in my ClassPath. I am able to loadLibrary successfully from class X in my 'common' package. However, when I try to access the same .dll from another class Y in package 'notsocommon'. I get an unsatisfied link error. I changed the X.h file to include common in the function definition (eg. Java_common_X_functionName) and I did the same to the Y.h file (Java_notsocommon_Y_functionName). I am able to work with the dll from the X class but not the Y class. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I am very new to Java, so any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

I apologize to everyone for posting this. I figured out my mistake, it was in the dll and not in the java. Also using
javah -jni notsocommon.Y
creates the correct header file.

• The -dataSource parameter in assemble a web service from a PL/SQL package

When I use Web Service Assembler to assemble a Web Service from a PL/SQL package, I need to specify the dataSource parameter, e.g.:
java -jar wsa.jar -plsqlAssemble -sql pkgname -dataSource jdbc/MyDS -dbConnection ... -dbUser scott/tiger ....
The dataSource also needs to be pre-configured in the data-sources.xml in OC4J.
I am wondering why dataSource is needed here because the database connection information is already specified on the commandline ( dbConnection and dbUser).
If I have to specify dataSource, how do I configure data-sources.xml dynamically at run-time (e.g., adding entries)?
Thanks,
Jim

The -dataSource parameter specifies the data-sources.xml entry used at runtime. The database connection info is only for design time use. Typically you make sure data-sources.xml contains an entry with jndi-location of the same name you specifies for -dataSource. To configure data-sources.xml at runtime, it is out of the scope of web services. Please refer to OC4J admin guide. You can probably modify the data-sources.xml file and force OC4J to reconfigure based on the new data-sources.xml file.

• Retrieve city and state from zip code that is entered by user

I am trying to use AJAX to retrieve city and state from a table based on a zip code that is entered by the user. Two are text fields (zip code and city) and one is a SELECT field (state).
1. I defined an application item called TEMPORARY_APPLICATION_ITEM.
2. I defined an application process called SET_CITY_STATE as follows:
a. Process point: on demand
b. type: anonymous block
c. process text:

DECLARE
v_city VARCHAR2 (100);
v_state VARCHAR2 (2);
CURSOR cur_c
IS
SELECT city, state
FROM ZIP
WHERE zip = v ('TEMPORARY_APPLICATION_ITEM');
BEGIN
FOR c IN cur_c
LOOP
v_city := c.city;
v_state := c.state;
END LOOP;
apex_util.set_session_state('P2_CO_CITY',v_city);
apex_util.set_session_state('P2_CO_STATE',v_state);
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS
THEN
apex_util.set_session_state('P2_CITY','Unknown city');
apex_util.set_session_state('P2_STATE',null);
END;

3. Javascript is defined in the region header:

4. In the HTML Form Element Attributes of the P2_CO_ZIP text item: onchange="pull_city_state(this.value)";
The city and state are not being populated. I checked the select statement and it is retreiving the city and state in SQL WORKSHOP > SQL COMMANDS.
I would like to use it for the mailing address as well, so I would need to make the application process / javascript a bit more generic to be used in two places.
I placed the application on apex.oracle.com:
Workspace: RGWORK
Application: Online Certification Application (28022)
Can someone assists, please.
Thank you,
Robert

Hi Robert,
Try using XML instead of session state -
Change the application on demand process with the following script -
>
DECLARE
v_city VARCHAR2 (100);
v_state VARCHAR2 (2);
CURSOR cur_c
IS
SELECT city, state
FROM ZIP
WHERE zip = v ('TEMPORARY_APPLICATION_ITEM');
BEGIN
FOR c IN cur_c
LOOP
v_city := c.city;
v_state := c.state;
END LOOP;
OWA_UTIL.mime_header ('text/xml', FALSE);
HTP.p ('Cache-Control: no-cache');
HTP.p ('Pragma: no-cache');
OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
HTP.prn ('
');
HTP.prn ('<desc>this xml genericly sets multiple items</desc>');
HTP.prn ('
' || v_city || '
');
HTP.prn ('
' || v_state || '
');
HTP.prn ('
');
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS
THEN
OWA_UTIL.mime_header ('text/xml', FALSE);
HTP.p ('Cache-Control: no-cache');
HTP.p ('Pragma: no-cache');
OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
HTP.prn ('
');
HTP.prn ('<desc>this xml genericly sets multiple items</desc>');
HTP.prn ('
' || 'Unknown city' || '
');
HTP.prn ('
' || '' || '
');
HTP.prn ('
');
END;
>
in your javascript make sure you typing the application process name correctly as it is case sensitive.
Hope this helps,
