Installation hang on Solaris 10

I've been trying to install Solaris 10 on a Compaq(HP) ProLiant ML350 G3, so far without success. During the pre-boot Configuration process, I get a few messages about conflicts between a couple of 'devices' identified only as PNP0A00 and PNP0303. I've read elsewhere that these can be safely ignored ... so I've assumed that's correct and let 'em go.
When the boot-from-CD process begins, the first (and last) text I see is "Loading Driver ata.bef." At that point the CD activity light stops flashing and the machine hangs hard - it has to be physically powered down. I've seen on other sites that this condition will clear up after 10 or 20 minutes, but in my case it has persisted indefinitely.
This computer, a ProLiant ML350 G3, has 2 hyperthreaded 2.2Ghz Intel Xeon CPUs, 2.8 GB of memory, q Compaq Smart Array 642 SCSI Raid controller with 4 72GB Drives in Raid 5 (seen as two volumes of 16 and 56 GB), Hitachi GCR 8480-B CD-ROM drive (IDE), ATI Rage XL PCI video, standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse, Compaq NC7760 Gigabit ethernet adapter (Broadcom).
I really need some help here...Any suggestions (short of trying a different machine altogether)?
Thank in advance,
jeff

Hi Philippe,
Thanks for your reply.
I installed the whole suite including directory server in a non-defaut install directory. I am wondering if changing install directory will cause issues.

  • SAP installation hangs while installation EHP4 ready on Solaris-Oracle

    Hi,
    I am in a process of installing EHP4 READY on Solaris , with ORacle database.
    at 13 Phase CREATE DATABASE, the installation hangs up
    when i check the log    ora_sql_results.log  it says
       SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
    not getting any clue  i have added group sapinst to user orasid, and also gave full permission to the file
    "ora_scr_tmp.sql  "
    still no luck,
    please advise.
    Regards,
    Irfan..

    Hello Irfan,
    SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
    There are 3 possibilities...
    1. Users and there Group membership is incorrect.
    2. ORACLE_HOME directory permissions are not set or incorrect.
    3. Profile parameters are not set..
    Check this as below:
    1. Check the Users and Group membership as below:
    Users -----------> Primary Groups
    <SID>adm ------> sapsys,oper,dba,sapinst
    ora<SID> -------> dba,oper,sapinst
    2. Check that ORACLE_HOME has 755 permissions and ora<sid>:dba should be the user and owner. You can set it with below command:
    # chmod 755 -R /oracle
    # chown ora<SID>:dba -R /oracle
    3. Check if you defined ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variable for user ora<SID>.

  • Solaris 10 installation hangs at filesystem preparation stage

    Dear all,
    I am facing problems trying to configure Solaris 10 which was preinstalled on a Sun Ultra 45 workstation.
    Passing the network configuration stage (some errors included) the installation simply hangs while trying to prepare the filesystem, here are the messages I got:
    runCmd error in /usr/sbin/sysidput with output
    Unable to run cmd /usr/sbin/sysidput
    System identification complete.
    mv: cannot access /a/lib/svc/method/fs-root.orig
    Please wait while filesystems are prepared...
    The installation hangs here. I left the process running overnight, but nothing happened, I had to open a new console and shutdown the system. This behaviour is 100% reproducible. Now I will try getting the CDs for installation.
    How can I find out what is happening?
    Thanks in advance

    Hey all,
    rukbat was right - I put the pressure on the Sun frontline support, and got a Sun backline response, below.
    Thanks for the encouragement rukbat! - it paid off.
    ===
    Engineering provided us with a workaround for this problem.
    And our backline team have confirmed this works.
    The workaround is to restore /lib/svc/method/fs-root to slice 0. Here's how:
    Boot from slice 1 into single-user mode:
    ok boot disk:b - shell
    Mount slice 0 on /a. Replace c1t0d0s0 with the appropriate disk address on your machine.
    # mount /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /a
    Copy fs-root from slice 1 to slice 0:
    # cp -p /lib/svc/method/fs-root /a/lib/svc/method/
    Optionally, you can check to see if a filesystem was created on slice 3. Again, replace c1t0d0s3 with the correct address on your system.
    # df -k /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3
    If you don't see a valid usage report such as
    Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3 217369929 9 215196192 0%
    go ahead and use newfs to install a filesystem:
    # newfs /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s3
    newfs: construct a new file system /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s3: (y/n)? y
    You can now reboot from slice 0:
    # reboot -- disk:a

  • Solaris 10.4 installer hangs

    I'm trying to install Solaris on my Sony VAIO PCG-FX805 laptop, but the installer hangs after displaying the text about a license.
    The installation check CD that I burned failed at exactly the same point.
    According to the HCL Sony PCG-FX804, which is identical apart from a slightly slower processor, is compatible.
    Can anyone tell me why installation is hanging and what, if anything, I can do to fix it?

    How does one safely recover from this fiasco and "retry"?
    Typically this is a failed cleanup, not a failed install.
    If you force the system off and then restart and boot into the Safe mode (hold down Shift on boot) you can usually clean up the install. When you reach the login screen, don't login, just select reboot. In most cases this is all that is necessary to "clean up" an install.

    Please help me with this problem.
    Thank you
    Ravindran Kanniah

    It is because of UNIX shell. I also faced this error during installation.
    First check your shell by the following command.
    $ echo $SHELL
    Then select the below.
    For csh shell
    $ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
    $ export DISPLAY
    For sh,ksh and bash
    $ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0
    $ export DISPLAY
    After you do this check the value of DISPLAY variable.
    $ echo $DISPLAY
    If the DISPLAY variable is set then run ./runInstaller.
    One advice: Keep a complete log of your terminal session. This will help you in future :)

  • Installation hangs with Third Party Source component

    Hi,
    The installation hangs when it is installing Third Party Source (57%) in my environment.
    This is my environment:
    1. Solaris 10 x86 5/08
    2. SunStudio12ml-solaris-x86-200709-pkg.tar
    3. Installation method: single user, graphical user interface
    4. Hardware: VMware Workstation 6.0.2, CPU 1.5G, memory 400M
    I searched in SunStudio12ml-solaris-x86-200709-pkg.tar, and I could not find SPROrdbks package which belongs to Third Party Source component.
    I suspect this is the root cause of my installation problem. I restart the installation, and I do not select to install Third Party Source component. But the installation process now hangs when it is installing Performance Library (56%). I don't what is the root cause :P
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
    You could find log in the /var/sadm/install/logs directory. Probably it helps you.
    (for example: /var/sadm/install/logs/Sun_Studio_Ceres_software_install.B09161643)
    Unfortunately the SunStudio12 installer could have problems with virtual environments.
    The Sun Studio is distributed as tar.bz2 archive (for latest Express it is wrapped into sh script).
    You could just unpack it. The only difference is that there no packages are created.
    Could this helps you?
    Also if you use OpenSolaris you could install Sun Studio from IPS.
    Thank you

  • Windows 7 installation hangs on 'completing installation' in boot camp

    hi
    i am trying to install windows 7 ultimate 32 bit using boot camp and each time i have tried (except on one occasion) the installation has hanged on the 'completing installation' stage. i initially had this problem, then one time it worked, but then i had to wipe my boot camp partition and start again, and since then no joy in installing windows 7 again.
    when the installation hangs it sounds like the install DVD is making a whirring sound as though there is an issue reading the DVD. but i have tried two different windows 7 install DVDs in both drives on my Mac Pro and i keep getting the same problem.
    i have tried installing without any peripherals plugged in, including my cinema display, but still no joy, except for that one occasion, when i am not aware of having done anything different.
    the boot camp partition is 32GB, and i have the same issue whether starting the installation using the boot camp assistant, or just booting from the Windows DVD and formatting the boot camp partition during the install.
    can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
    thanks
    nick

    On a Mac Pro with four hard disks, you would be better off devoting an entire HDD to Windows. You do not even need to start the Boot Camp Assistant application.
    However, that does not appear to be the problem. Perhaps the size of your Windows partition is a bit on the smallish side. Why so small? Have you tried a larger partition? Going larger would be a good experiment to help drill down to the installation problem.
    Try to eliminate anything under your control that could be part of the problem.
    At 32GB that's the borderline between being permitted to use FAT32 formatting and being required to employ NTFS. Presumably, you allowed the installer to use NTFS. In fact I think Win7 requires NTFS. Switch the partition size a little down or a little up to eliminate that as a possible glitch point. Just a thought and probably a stupid one but you never know...
    An afterthought: Can you get hold of a FireWire DVD optical drive. Maybe the internal drive is faulty.

    Hi Edu,
    Did you followed the instructions compiled in the other threads showing how to recompile the dll???
    Just follow step by step what is described there, it should work.
    DI EVENT SERVICE ON 64 SERVER
    1. Change compilation option to x64
    2. You have to replace the following 2 lines modified marked with:
    char msg[ 398 ]; // Old was mgs[378]
    sock, msg, 398, 0, (const struct sockaddr*)&sAddr, sizeof(struct
    sockaddr_in));
    3. Replace the old dll by the new one compiled
    4. Don't forget to register the dll (after compiling and copying in the right folder):
    C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64>regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SAP Business
    One DI Event Service\SAP Business One DI Event Server\SBO_SP_TransactionNotification\B1DIEventsSender.dll"
    Both Ad and Andres succeeded to do it.
    Hope it helps
