Installation hangs as a process

I have a client who can not get Flash installed on her system for Internet Explorer, or Firefox.  Her system is running Win 7 32-bit.
For either browser, when the installation process begins, it just hangs...For example in IE, I un-select the option for Chrome, then click the yellow Install button.
I get the "Initialzing" animation, and a moment later I get the "if you encounter a problem, blah blah" text.  And that's it.
If I check the Task Manager, the "install_flashplayer15x32ax_chrd_dn_awa_aih" process is still running, using 0% CPU time and about 12MB of RAM.  It hangs there forever.
I've tried uninstalling Flash and re-installing it, but have only made things worse.  (Firefox used to work.. it doesn't now)
Please, someone, toss me a bone here.  My only remaining option is a complete re-install at this point.

I checked the response to this thread:
Flash not installing
And it looks like it's working now.  I'll close this in the morning when I confirm with the client.

  • Installation hangs with Third Party Source component

    Hi,
The installation hangs when it is installing Third Party Source (57%) in my environment.
    This is my environment:
    1. Solaris 10 x86 5/08
    2. SunStudio12ml-solaris-x86-200709-pkg.tar
    3. Installation method: single user, graphical user interface
    4. Hardware: VMware Workstation 6.0.2, CPU 1.5G, memory 400M
I searched in SunStudio12ml-solaris-x86-200709-pkg.tar, and I could not find SPROrdbks package which belongs to Third Party Source component.
I suspect this is the root cause of my installation problem. I restart the installation, and I do not select to install Third Party Source component. But the installation process now hangs when it is installing Performance Library (56%). I don't what is the root cause :P
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you very much!
    Regards,
    O2Cabin

    Hi,
You could find log in the /var/sadm/install/logs directory. Probably it helps you.
    (for example: /var/sadm/install/logs/Sun_Studio_Ceres_software_install.B09161643)
Unfortunately the SunStudio12 installer could have problems with virtual environments.
The Sun Studio is distributed as tar.bz2 archive (for latest Express it is wrapped into sh script).
You could just unpack it. The only difference is that there no packages are created.
    Could this helps you?
Also if you use OpenSolaris you could install Sun Studio from IPS.
    Thank you

  • PLEASE HELP ! While updating My Xperia Z1 , my pc hanged during the process and .

While updating My Xperia Z1 , my pc hanged during the process ( so , installation of update was interrupted , guess it's same as getting your USB connection disconnected )and now the phone won't turn on .
Its shows the Sony Xperia logo , then shows a black lit screen , and that's it , nothing else happens . I can only turn it off by pressing and holding the power+up volume button , but it turns on automatically if plugged in for charging or in PC only till it gets that black screen .
I tried to flash it with a flashtool (Emma) , but it says phone locked , but since it can't even be turned on , i can't unlock it .
It's a store bought phone and is not of any contracts with any mobile service provider or anything like that ....
Funny you know ... my PC had to crash at the moment i was updating it .... my luck ....
Anyways , now please can anyone tell me what i can do ? I'm sure there is a way i can fix it using my pc and other downloadable software , so please can some one help me how i can fix this problem ? I don't care if i lose all the data on it , i just want my phone back ....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Problem Solved ,Thank you  very much !!
For those who might face the problem and stumble upon this thread after googling
    Read above mentioned comments
    Now here's what I did :
Turned the phone off by power+volume key method , then plugged it in to the pc via USB and opened sony pc companion , entered Support zone , then entered the Update device option , then I Unplugged my device , only after doing this a window pops up with  Repair my phone/tablet in blue text , then i clicked on that and followed the simple instructions ..
It's basically what Thommo said , only i was so freaked out at that time that i failed to follow his instructions to the letter
So now my phone is back to normal , and , it got the latest lolipop update !
Problem solved i guess  but Thommo , i need to disturb you again with  just one more  question ,  since at the very beginning , the update process was interrupted , and now i got lolipop after  the repair ,without needing to update again ,  so has the lollipop been installed properly on my phone or do i need to use any other flashtool to re-install lollipop ?
    again , Thank you ...

  • SAP installation hangs while installation EHP4 ready on Solaris-Oracle

    Hi,
I am in a process of installing EHP4 READY on Solaris , with ORacle database.
at 13 Phase CREATE DATABASE, the installation hangs up
when i check the log    ora_sql_results.log  it says
SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
not getting any clue  i have added group sapinst to user orasid, and also gave full permission to the file
    "ora_scr_tmp.sql  "
    still no luck,
    please advise.
    Regards,
    Irfan..

    Hello Irfan,
SP2-0310: unable to open file "ora_scr_tmp.sql"
    There are 3 possibilities...
    1. Users and there Group membership is incorrect.
    2. ORACLE_HOME directory permissions are not set or incorrect.
    3. Profile parameters are not set..
    Check this as below:
    1. Check the Users and Group membership as below:
    Users -----------> Primary Groups
    <SID>adm ------> sapsys,oper,dba,sapinst
    ora<SID> -------> dba,oper,sapinst
    2. Check that ORACLE_HOME has 755 permissions and ora<sid>:dba should be the user and owner. You can set it with below command:
    # chmod 755 -R /oracle
    # chown ora<SID>:dba -R /oracle
    3. Check if you defined ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variable for user ora<SID>.
    Regards.

  • Solaris 10 installation hangs at filesystem preparation stage

    Dear all,
I am facing problems trying to configure Solaris 10 which was preinstalled on a Sun Ultra 45 workstation.
Passing the network configuration stage (some errors included) the installation simply hangs while trying to prepare the filesystem, here are the messages I got:
runCmd error in /usr/sbin/sysidput with output
    Unable to run cmd /usr/sbin/sysidput
    System identification complete.
    mv: cannot access /a/lib/svc/method/fs-root.orig
Please wait while filesystems are prepared...
The installation hangs here. I left the process running overnight, but nothing happened, I had to open a new console and shutdown the system. This behaviour is 100% reproducible. Now I will try getting the CDs for installation.
How can I find out what is happening?
    Thanks in advance

    Hey all,
rukbat was right - I put the pressure on the Sun frontline support, and got a Sun backline response, below.
Thanks for the encouragement rukbat! - it paid off.
    ===
Engineering provided us with a workaround for this problem.
And our backline team have confirmed this works.
The workaround is to restore /lib/svc/method/fs-root to slice 0. Here's how:
Boot from slice 1 into single-user mode:
    ok boot disk:b - shell
Mount slice 0 on /a. Replace c1t0d0s0 with the appropriate disk address on your machine.
    # mount /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /a
Copy fs-root from slice 1 to slice 0:
    # cp -p /lib/svc/method/fs-root /a/lib/svc/method/
Optionally, you can check to see if a filesystem was created on slice 3. Again, replace c1t0d0s3 with the correct address on your system.
    # df -k /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3
If you don't see a valid usage report such as
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3 217369929 9 215196192 0%
go ahead and use newfs to install a filesystem:
    # newfs /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s3
    newfs: construct a new file system /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s3: (y/n)? y
You can now reboot from slice 0:
    # reboot -- disk:a

  • Xcode Installation Hangs on "Running Installer Scripts"

Hi, I'm trying to install Xcode to take advantage of their gcc and make files. However, no matter what I do, Xcode installation hangs on "Running Installer Scripts". Searching on Google did not give me any help. I can't quit the process either. Here's a screen shot:
    http://lh4.ggpht.com/_id4E4GFQud0/SfvsNwDdDaI/AAAAAAAACnI/23tE3vWw3vk/Snapshot%2 02009-05-02%2001-44-41.png
Could you please advice on what can possibly go wrong?
I'm running OS 10.5.6, and installing Xcode directly from the Mac OS X Disc 1 CD. In the CD document, it says Xcode Developer Tools 3.0 for Mac OS 10.5.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the details of what you've tried. Every detail you can remember increases the chance that someone can spot the problem.
My read is that you've documented beyond much doubt that a clean install is what you need. Restoring your system was a good try, but I don't think that would change much outside of the /system folder. Even if we think it did, the evidence you provided tells me that some files from the first Xcode installation remain. I would be looking for files created on that date and checking perms in places like the root directory, /tmp, /usr/share/sandbox, etc. I would also advise renaming /Developer as written in the +Book of the Dead+. I didn't invent that instruction; it was distilled from dozens of case histories in this forum.
You might also try one of the 3rd party tools that's out there for cleaning Macs. I've never tried any of them though, so can't make a recommendation.
Oh... erm... You did restart your Mac at some point since the problems started, right?
Re installing only gcc, have you been to the Developer Tools page at the connect.apple.com site? Select Downloads on the home page, and in the next page select Developer Tools from the lower right panel. I found 2 downloads that appear to be full gcc installers: Xcode Legacy Tools and GCC 4.2 Developer Preview 1. The other gcc downloads seem to be updates. I might try gcc 3.1 in the legacy tools. It's probably all you need, and if not you'd be good to go for an update.
Of course, you could always download directly from the gnu site, just you might need to be a rocket scientist to install one of those packages. I'm guessing it would be a learning experience. There's also something to be said for using a 3rd party installer, since it probably wouldn't be affected by whatever is stopping the Apple installer(s).
Sure hope some small part of the above turns out to be useful. But in any case, please let us know how you resolve the problem.

I'm having difficulty installing JDK6 Update 3 on a Windows XP box. The installer hangs forever on the applying java patches step and after a few hours I've had to kill the process. • Flash installer hangs up on OSX 10.6.8

Trying to install Flash player 15 on OSX10.6.8 but the installer hangs up every time. All browsers have been quit, Flash preference file & folder trashed. Activity monitor shows Flash installer not responding almost immediately and eventually stops. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Seaweed,
Unfortunately, nothing Flash Player related is still being logged.
At which point is the installer hanging?  When the installer is first launched, there's a EULA acceptance check-box and the INSTALL button.  Does it hang before this, or after you click the INSTALL button?  Does it get the install progress bar and then hang?  Please do post a screenshot of the window it's hanging at.
We'd like to get a sample of the Install Manager process when it's hanging.  In Activity Monitor, select the 'Adobe Flash Player Install Manager' process and double-click it.  This will open a new window with details on the process.  Click the 'Sample' button.  When it's finished acquiring the sample, save the file and share the results in the same way you've shared the other log files.
Also, have you by chance run the standalone installer (Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS), to completely remove what was previously installed, or did you just trash the folders (from your first post you said you trashed some of the Flash Player folders).  If you haven't run the standalone uninstaller, please do so as trashing the folders doesn't completely remove all remnants Flash Player.
