Installation hangs at "Configuring devices."

Solaris 10 6/06 Installation hangs at "Configuring devices." stage.
I have tried to:
1) boot with "pci-reprog=off"
2) disabled Core Duo in BIOS
and with combinations of these.
But nothings helps.
My system:
Intel Core Duo 6400 @2.13GHz,
Western Digital WD2500-KS,
NVIDIA GeForce 6200.
Does anyone know workaround for this issue?

  • Solaris 10 hanging at Configuring Devices during installation

    Hi All,
I am trying to install Solaris 10 via cd or net, but it hangs at Configuring Devices. This is an upgrade to the current Solaris 8 OS that is running on this system.
Does anyone have any insight to this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

Having the same problem here. Hangs at "Configuring devices" right after the SunOS license message. Didn't have any luck with "pci-reprog=off", so I still can't get past this point, but this could be because of my specific hardware. Did manage to figure out the GRUB kernel boot argument syntax though, from this article:
GRUB and the Solaris 10 1/06 OS: The New Bootloader for x86 Platforms
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/grub_boot_solaris.html
"Properties other than boot-file can be specified on the GRUB kernel command line with this syntax:"kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot -B prop1=val1[,prop2=val2...]Notice that commas are used between arguments. When I used spaces, only the first argument was understood. Found more info on booting from GRUB here:
x86: To Install or Upgrade With the Solaris Installation Program With GRUB
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-0544/6mgbagb1e?a=view
x86: GRUB Menu Commands for Installation
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5504/6mkv4nh5e?a=view
I tried turning off dma for my cd & drives, and also tried turning off acpi, but nothing worked. Maybe somebody else here can make progress with this info though.

  • Fresh install of solaris 10 x86 hangs after 'Configuring devices'

    Hi All,
I just received a new SuperMicro server with an LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i controller. While trying to install Solaris 10 it hangs after "Configuring devices". I checked the LSI page and Solaris 10 is supported according to them. Any ideas how to proceed?
Fairly new to Solaris on x86 hardware.
The system has a Xeon X5690 processor in an Intel Workstation Board S5520SC motherboard. The motherboard documents claim that not disabling usb 2.0 can hang an install. I have disabled the usb 2.0 in the bios but the system still hangs. Booting it with the -kd and -kv options don't give much information.
Any help is appreciated. I might be returning these machines if I can't get this worked out.
    Cheers,
    Steve

See if you can add the verbose option "-v" to the kernel boot options. I think you can get to the GRUB menu off the Solaris 10 install disk. That should tell you what device is causing the hang, or at least the last device that worked.
Also, can you try Solaris 11 and see if it gets past that point? A few years ago I has a similar issue with Solaris 10 on a Dell server. Solaris 11/OpenSolaris worked fine, though. IIRC I could work around the issue if I disabled the 2nd CPU - Solaris 10 had a problem bringing up the 2nd CPU on that Dell's CPU/MB config.

  • Live Upgrade hangs at Configuring devices. on Sun V440

    Hi all,
    I am trying to upgrade a V440 which is running Solaris 8 2/04 to Solaris 10 8/07.
I have patched the V440 Solaris 8 build to the latest recommended patch cluster, and have also installed p7zip utility and followed the recommended patching procedures in Sun Doc 206844.
I have installed the Live Upgrade packages from the Solaris Media Kit (8/07) and successfully created the Solaris 10 Boot Environment based on the Solaris 8 boot environment, upgraded it and activated it.
However, on rebooting, the new Solaris10 boot environment hangs at configuring devices. and fails to proceed any further in the boot process.
    Can anyone assist please?

    Done it!
It seems the only way I could get the V440 to upgrade to Solaris 10 was to upgrade the alternate boot environment to Solaris 9 (which required a reinstallation of the SAN foundation kit - which might be where Solaris 10 was hanging), and then a further upgrade of the alternate boot environment to Solaris 10.
I might try uninstalling the SAN foundation kit, and then an upgrade from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 and see if this confirms my theory. Will keep you posted.

  • ABAP Trial Installation Hanging at Configuring Login Information

I have a Windows Server 2003 machine that I want to install the SAP NetWeaver Java and ABAP Trial versions on (yes the same machine).  I've downloaded everything I need and have successfully installed the Java version without a problem.
Everything seems to be running perfectly.
Now, when I try to install the ABAP version it gets passed creating the database with: "database NSP created successfully Tu, Jul 14, 2009 at 11:28:08"
Now it's onto step "Configuring login information..." @ 52% and it's just sitting here - it's now 1:17 so it's been here for about 2 hours now with no progress movement.
I tried looking for a logfile and I can't find one anywhere so I'm not sure what exactly the installer is doing.  How do I proceed to debug this to find out where the hang up is?
    Thank you!

I killed the kernel.exe process hosted the NSP database to force the installation to fail.
It looks like it's having problems with changing passwords?!  I am using the same exact password for the J2E instance as this NSP instance (the password is similar to:  Dhgy123#).  I did read that "@" symbols were a problem - perhaps "!" is as well?!

  • IPhone SDK 7 installation hangs on "configuring installation"

  • 10.5.3 hangs on "configuring installation" - any ideas please?

Have a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo.
Downloaded the 10.5.3 upgrade to Leopard, restarted, (3 times now) and watch the installer hang at "configuring installation".
    Any ideas please?

We had the same problem with updating one of our G5s. However, after selecting the install and quit button the computer froze up. Now, we can't get the computer to boot up AT ALL. It hangs at the grey screen with the apple and rotating gear. But nothing after that. I have been successful only once to get it to boot up in safe mode, but can't since then.
These are the things I have tried:
    Replaced the internal battery
Tried to start up holding down shift key (safe mode)
Booted up on the eDrive that Tech Tools created and ran all the diagnostics (nothing)
Ran Disk Utility: When verifying permissions it came up with a few errors, but didn't fix any of them. Said that the disk (harddrive) couldn't be "unmounted" therefor couldn't fix anything.

    Hi javier!
I have similar problems and found this solution:
When booting press ESC at prompt, then choose 'device tasks' and disable some devices, e.g. USB controller or network adapter. Then go back to main menu and continue install.

  • 10.5.4 won't install-hangs on Configuring Installation

10.5.4 won't install-hangs on Configuring Installation and I have to force quit the installer. I've tried to wait it out for over an hour, but the progress bar never moves. This is with the Combo Updater. I've also tried using Software Update, but the progress bar for checking for new software stops about 3/4 of the way, and hangs forever. Any advice? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately such problems do occur for some people, not necessarily through any fault on the part of the user. Interruption of an update can cause problems for which there are solutions.
    Which update was it?
Go to the Apple icon and select Software Update and see what it recommends if anything. Don't actually instal, rather just quit SU and let us know what the result is.
Secondly, open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Select your hard drive in the LH column then Repair permissions from the lower part on the RH side of the window. It will take about 10mins to complete its task. If there is a list of permissions finishing with a message permissions repaired rerun this to make sure there are no more. See whether the odd behaviour continues.
If it does, insert the original installation dvd and restart holding the C key until the Select your language window appears. Do this & on the next window Select Disk Utility from the Tools menu. Again select your hard drive but this time choose Repair Disk. If there are repairs indicated and they are completed rerun this too to check that no more are needed. When this is finished rerun Repair permissions as well if there were any repairs carried out. Restart the computer normally and see how it all goes.

  • Configurator 1.4 hangs at Connect Devices in Prepare screen

The devices show up in the "Supervise screen" as connected. And they show up in Itunes. But when I go to the "Prepare screen" and hit the prepare button they just hang at "Connect Devices".  Have tried through the cart (Bretford) and plugging in individually.
I have wiped all of them and started again.  Same results.
    Running 11.1 Itunes. 10.8.5 OSX. Configurator 1.4

I had a reply to my topic from NYLink with the advice to check the Supervise pane and unsupervise the devices so that you can prepare them again.
What happened in my case was half of my iPads needed a full restore to get iOS7.02 installed - Configurator still had them listed as being supervised, but would not apply any apps to them, and they would not show up in the Prepare pane. So they needed to be unsupervised first before anything else could be done to them.
What I did: I plugged in a single iPad at a time, so that there was no confusion as to which device was which in Configurator - for me, Configurator had decided that all my devices were iPad02. Once the iPad was connected, I was able to go to the Devices menu at the top, and select Unsupervise from the bottom of the menu. After going through one by one, all my devices are now visible from the Prepare pane again, and once prepare was completed they were visible in the Supervise pane again.
    Good luck!

I have installed a Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 on a VM using VMware Player and then installed Dynamics CRM 2013, working out all the configuration problems.
The installation hanged once without errors and when I tried it again it was installed, no problems. Dynamics CRM 2013 works without issue.
Then I copied the machine, uninstalled the Dynamics CRM 2013 and started installing CRM 2015. However this time without errors the installation hangs even though I tried more than 5 times.
There are no errors, installation program is not unresponsive and task manager shows nothing out of the ordinary.
I have also tried this on multiple physical and virtual PCs to no avail.
