Installation hangs at "registering modules"

I bought a brand new iPod (with a color display & video capabilities) to replace my old iPod. The new iPod came with no installation software - it said you needed to download it from the website. OK, fine, I can do that and did do that.
I tried to install it. It hangs (aka: freezes) when it gets to the end of the installation, right at the "registering modules" portion. I looked up troubleshooting tips from this site and followed them to a T. I did pretty much everything I could find that was suggested (disabling all antivirus and personal firewall measures, disabling all non-critical windows components/processes, clearing out temporary files, deleting/removing previous installations, etc.)
In the end: I still can't install iTunes, I still can't install iPod updater let alone use my brand new iPod. FWIW I'm not computer illiterate but I just /do not/ know what I'm doing wrong here.
Suggestions and/or tips, please?

just doublechecking. do you have SpyCatcher installed on that PC? if so, have you tried uninstalling SpyCatcher altogether prior to the itunes install?

One board member has already suggested installing Itunes 7 on another computer and importing the installed files directly onto the 'problematic system.'
Unfortunantly, this doesn't work fo all. Therefore I am hoping that this thread becomes a 'ground central' for this problem. Has anyone tried anything else that works? Does anyone at Apple have any idea as to why the installation stalls at this point?
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade failed...itunes wont start....hangs on registering modules

have tried numerous times to complete installation, all fail at registering modules. cant uninstall previous because its not listed in add and remove programs. deleted itunes folder under program files since nothing else worked. this step didnt either.
in task manager, noticed cpu useage is 100%. there are six instances of msiexec.exe running. four at 00 and two at 50 apiece.
all antivirus and spyware programs disabled for install too.
a simple "forced" upgrade to the latest version tonight and now itunes is lost and wont work.
    thanks apple.

I've had exactly the same problem (in fact I always have a problem installing i-tunes) I've tried using the MS Installation Cleanup Utility, deleting the Quicktime files from my program files and System32 folders, turned of anti virus and anti spyware and it still didnt work...
...But after reading your post I noticed that I too had several instances of msiexec (four in my case). While the installation was still hanging on module registration, I opened task manager and shut down the processes, as soon as I did the registration completed!
I know it's not too scientific but it worked. It may depend on the order in which you stop the processes - give it a go, it might just work.

  • Crystal Report 2008 Installation Failed - Registering modules

    HI Folks
I'm trying to install Crystal Report 2008 on XP Pro SP2. The installation stop on Registering Modules, even if I click Cancel,
it does not do anything it just hang there. I have to kill the process in Task Manager. If I restarted the installation,
it says that I have already an installtion process running. So I have to reboot and then restart the installation,
now it says that it will continue a previous uncompleted installation. But it hangs again at Registering Modules.
It does not even stop at the same file. I have done this process several time with always the same result.
Each time it stops on a different file but always during the Registering Modules process.

As well as that make sure you are a local PC administrator or belong to that group. Also check Microsoft's site to make sure you have the latest Microsoft Installer. I believe there is a test tool to check your PC.
Do you know what version of CR 2008 you have? There should be a ProductId.txt file to confirm the version. SP 3 should fully support DEP so if you don't have it download it from this [link|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009989492010E/cr2008_sp3_fullbuild.zip].
Then it should get past Microsoft's security. If it's your Anti-V as Stratos suggests then only option is to disconnect from the network and disable it, install and the reconnect.
The other common registration issue is due to missing dependencies or possibly updated dependencies that CR found but can't use. Some of our dependencies are specific versions.
    Thank you

  • Error Code 2755 and hang-up at "Registering Modules"

So a few days ago I decided to download iTunes 7, and everything in the installation seemed to be going fine until it stopped for about half an hour at "Registering Modules: iPodUpdaterExt.dll". I cancelled the installation, but iTunes worked anyway, and I thought that maybe it wouldn't really be an issue. I was wrong.
I can't update the software on my Nano to the 1.2 version because the installation never really finished. And when I tried a few more times to re-download the installation files, it didn't work, gave me this error code 2755, and a little note popped up saying the installation encountered an unexpected error before it could be completed.
If anyone could give me any advice, that'd be fantastic.

This is the exact same problem that I'm having currently, Right now, I'm in the installation process for iTunes 7 and it has been taking a while to move on past "Registering Modules". I did the same thing before and cancelled the installation because it wasnt moving on, and later opened iTunes 7 to find it worked fine. Unfortunately, it didnt allow my iPod to get updated and nopw I have iPod games that are sitting around and need to get onto my iPod. Can someone please explain what is going on with the "Registering Modules" process of the installation?

  • Registering Modules Freeze on Installation??

My computer always freezes at the Registering Modules portion of the installation of iTunes 7.2. After the incomplete installation I can open iTunes by opening a music file (I do get a box warns me that iTunes was not installed properly). It even seems to work fine, it plays music and tv shows and the iTunes store works too. The problem I am having with the incomplete installation is that I can't rip music from my CD's. Is there anyone out there who knows what I can do to finally get iTunes to install completely??
    Thanks!

  • Installer hang up

I have been trying to install iTunes 7 for several days now, on each and every installation, it hangs up on "reguistering modules. iTunes will no longeg launch, I have tried to uninstall it, but an error message follows, I followed instructions from "hot topics" and deleted the iTunes folder in prog files. I tried to re-install Itunes 6.5, but it will not run.
Please help! I have a brand new 80g iPod with nothing on it!

I have been trying to install iTunes 7 for several days now, on each and every installation, it hangs up on "reguistering modules.
by any chance, do you have SpyCatcher antispyware software installed on that PC? in a number of cases, modules installed by SpyCatcher have been interfering with registration of iTunes 7.0.x modules (producing the "registering modules" hang).
if you do have SpyCatcher, try uninstalling SpyCatcher altogether, and then doing your iTunes 7.0.x install. if the iTunes install goes through, you can then reinstall SpyCatcher.
