Installation hangup

Greetings. I have tried several times to properly install iTunes7 this fine Christmas Day. The install hangs at the 'Registering modules' step effectively freezing the entire computer. Upon forced reboot, the prog will run with the proviso that it can't get album info due to an install error and to re-install the entire program. I have done this several times to no avail. Any insight or thoughts/comments more than welcome.

I have exactly the same problem installing iTunes, my PC hangs in the "registering modules" too, excapt my PC is not frozen, only the install program, and of course since its not properlly installed it wont run!.
I got a Nano for Christmas and can't use it because i can't install a working software that SHOULD have came included with the iPod.
How come iPods are so popular if they have such huge problems?? and customer support: unexistant??

  • PSE Installation hangups

I recently purchased Photoshop 11 & Premiere Elements Combo. Software installation stops at ' installing shared technologies' and won't proceed. I have tried the suggested renaming of the OOBE, copying the installation file to the root directory and even chatting with an agent who advised that they do not support this product. I'm fast running out of options and am open and appreciative of all suggestions. I am not very expert at these things when errors occur and would certainly appreciate any assistance that a cyber simpleton like me is able to follow.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

    Ron,
Though you mention both Photoshop Elements, and Premiere Elements, it appears that your first issue is with Shared Technologies in Photoshop Elements. That is why I Moved your post here.
There are several threads on Shared Technologies issues (for several different Adobe programs). I am sure that the regulars here can point you to some of those threads.
If those do not help, and you get Photoshop Elements running, but still have issues with Premiere Elements (separate programs), BarbaraB can Branch your thread to the Premiere Elements Forum.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • OracleAS10g installation problem

    Hi,
I try to install OracleAS10g on Linux RHAS 3, but after the infrastructure installation(OK of course) and when I try to install BI&Forms the installation hangup in OC4J Component.
It´s necessary to stop EM infrastructure before to install mid-tier (like in Oracle9iAS)? or what step I missing.
    Thanks a lot

No, you don't have to stop any services before installing the mid-tier. BTW! Do a search in Metalink regarding installing AS10g on RHAS3. I know that there are some helping documents. Did you also check the latest release notes? There should be some RedHats hints.
    Regards and good luck!

  • How to reinstall Thinkpad Components on a T61?

The hard drive on my T61 died.  The operating system on it was XP.  I want to take the opportunity to upgrade to 7.  I ordered a new hard drive from Lenovo and rather than purchasing the recovering CDs, installing XP on the new drive, and then upgrading to 7, I just purchased a full install of 7.
When I do this I realize that I will not have all the components for the thinkpad, such as rescue and recovery, power manager, etc.  I believe I can download them, but what are the recommended components to install and what is the best protocol (e.g., should I created a separate partition for the rescus and recovery program?).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Rescue and Recovery 4.21 hangs on installation on T61p after fresh Windows Vista OEM reinstall from Hard Drive partition - this is really a new thread but I am unused to forums and how to use them:
    - OEM install went smoothly from blue button thinkvantage once I figured out that I should not use the encryption passwords on RnR startup (crudely alluded to in "Considerations" documentation) - conceptually it makes since you cannot RnR an OEM OS to an encrypted drive - took me a while on that one
    - Once install finisthed, used SU to download and install all available Thinkvantage updates.  Noteably missing from the OEM install and the updates was RnR?  Why?  If RnR was on the OEM we would not be talking today
    - Updated and installed all Windows updates, then installed Apps, etc, got all things working sweet.
    - Needed a backup, so downloaded RnR 4.21 (en) and have had several installation hangups.  I have been patient waiting at least 24 hours on each hangup.
    - After searching forums etc tried uninstalling Client Security Solution and disabled all but the hard drive password (not allowed) in the BIOS, so this computer is wide open.
    - Turned off Norton antivirus for the install.
    - Turned off UAC and ran the install program as an Administrator
    - Defragged the disk before start, and only had one service to stop at that window (asks to retry after stopping service)  Lots of background items turned off.
    - As it stands on my third or 4th attempt everything is there:  Program Files, Thinkvantage Menu options, (Z partition [ServiceV002 (Z says 497 mb free of 6.64 GB and indicator is RED], and a 15.9 GB "unknown" file on the root directory, a look at Disk writes on Resource Overview does not show anything happening directly related to tvtrnr_1015.exe setup process but it does occasionally do something because it remains near the top on CPU activity although the percentage rounds to 0% of CPU,  There are no error messages and the install appears within seconds of completing (for the past 24 hours).
    - If I abort the installation, roll back sometimes fails, but I go back and remove any remnants of the program in program files, if needed.  I dont touch the registry.  A reboot is necessary to do anything.
A BSOD is a permanent feature of shutdown until I get this installation working or start over again and forget about RnR.  Installation of other programs are slowed as well and I havent tried this yet, but system restore may be affected as well.
    - So I sit here 24 hours in to the third or fourth try before writing to the forum.  Anything I missed?

  • Despite my best efforts, I am unable to remove iTunes 11.1.4 from my PC, this being made necessary because the original installation had a flaw and did not load properly. Effor to use the control panel, deleting dll. files, etc. all failed. iTune out??

Despite my best efforts, I am unable to remove iTunes 11.1.4 from my PC, this being made necessary because the original installation had a flaw and did not load properly. Effor to use the control panel, deleting dll. files, etc. all failed. And, of course, on startup, a window opens with the error and tells me find QTMovie.dll and delete it because this may be the source of the hangup. Also, in trying to delete iTunes, I get the additional message that I must get approval from the System Administrator to take this action. I am the System Administrator.
    Any ideas would be welcomed.
    Thank you.

  • Netinstall package installation fails

I've been struggling with Netinstall and Netrestore for a few days, and I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I'm trying to use a customized NetInstall image to install Snow Leopard and some additional software on client machines. The OS installs successfully, but it fails while installing one of the additional packages.
Here's my image creation workflow from Automator:
    1) Define image source (Snow Leopard retail DVD)
    2) Add Packages and Post-Install Scripts: Includes packages for Audacity (made with Package Maker), Microsoft Remote Desktop and Microsoft Office 2008
    3) Customize Package Selection: Using primarily to have the image skip the non-English language translations.
    4) Apply System Configuration Settings: Used to connect the computer to Active Directory, generate a unique computer name and change ByHost preferences. The installation doesn't seem to get to this point.
    5) Create Image
Automator says the workflow completed, and it does boot successfully from my 10.6.2 server.
The hangup seems to be happening when it installs Audacity. The only thing the install package does is put a folder in /Applications with a small number of files in it. The folder and files are created, but nothing after that point runs.
I saved the installation log, and I noticed something in the last few lines that seems to indicate that the Audacity package is the problem. Is there anything I can do that will make it continue beyond this point?

Yes, that's a tough one to get around. If you don't mind hacking SIU a little the best fix is to edit the script:
    /Applications/Server/System\ Image\ Utility.app/Contents/Library/Automator/Create\ Image.action/Contents/Resources/createNetRestore.sh
and change the line that reads:
    /usr/bin/hdiutil create "$destPath/System" -srcfolder "${sourceVol}" -uid 0 -gid 80 -mode 1775 -ov -puppetstrings || exit 1
    to:
    /usr/bin/hdiutil create "$destPath/System" -srcfolder "${sourceVol}" -fsargs "-c a=16384,c=8192,e=1280" -uid 0 -gid 80 -mode 1775 -ov -puppetstrings || exit 1
i.e. add '-fsargs "-c a=16384,c=8192,e=1280"' before the -uid

I've also had a problem where the system will not do a full export of an AW as an eif file. It starts, then just hangs. If you try to import the file that is created you get some but not all of the objects in the original AW and an error message at the end. I have cycled through the NAME dimension exporting objects one at a time and discovered an object where it hangs and can't get past. It's not large and it's one of the objects with the property 'AW$CREATEDBY' = 'AW$XML'. So seems to be an Oracle bug, maybe some metadata got messed up, who knows, but it should always be possible to export an AW.

  • Windows Vista Installation Hangs on "Completing Installation" on Dell Inspiron 1720

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 that I am working on. The original problem with this computer was that it was accidently shut off during a Windows Update. The computer will only load to a black screen with a white movable cursor.
Unable to resolve that issue, I decided to purchase a replacement hard drive (WD Scorpio Black 320GB -- Model # WD3200KTRTL) and proceed to do a full install of Windows Vista using the Dell Reinstallation Window Vista Home Premium 32BIT disc that came with
    the computer.
Towards the very end of the installation, the system hangs on the "Completing Installation" section. I decided to leave the computer turned on over night just in case there were things that were still loading. This was not the case and the next morning I
    turned off the computer.
With the new hard drive installed and with Windows Vista installed (minus the "Completing Installation hanging...) I am faced with the same problem as before when I had the existing hard drive installed.
Can anyone help me solve this issue? Ideally, I'd like to use the existing hard drive instead of the new one, simply because there is a lot of data and problems on the other drive.

How could it be that I can't reinstall Vista after replacing the hard drive in my Inspiron 1720 when I have the original DVD from Dell, to be used for just that purpose?  Well, the answer was exactly what Jaco suggested.  After hours of struggling
with this, and about at the stage where a new computer made more sense that continuing to try to get this 6 year old one running again, changing the AHCI setting allowed the Vista installer to get over it's CRCDISK.SYS hangup.  A 30 second fix, but finding
it took hours.  Sigh...Thank you for posting this, Jaco.

  • Installer Appears Stuck on "Setting Up..." During Full Restore

This question relates to my attempts to format a brand new, 480GB SSD with an OS X Yosemite Installer app from the App Store.  I got the SSD to replace the recently failed HD in my '07 MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo (Santa Rosa); once it's in, of course, I'll need to Restore all the apps and data (±200 GB) from my account using my most recent Time Machine (complete) backup.
    What I've done so far:
First, I installed the new, unformatted SSD in the computer, then created a bootable OS X Yosemite Installer on a 16GB thumb drive (http://www.macworld.com/article/2367748/how-to-make-a-bootable-os-x-10-10-yosemi te-install-drive.html). When I booted up with the thumb drive the Installer worked fine up to a point, but on repeated attempts it kept reporting different errors that kept the installation from finishing. Twice I re-downloaded the OS X Yosemite Installer app from the App Store, thinking there might have been some corruption in earlier copies. On each re-try I also re-formatted the thumb drive per the instructions indicated in the link above
Then, following advice I had read somewhere that it's often simpler to format a brand new disk before putting it into the computer, I removed the SSD from my MacBook Pro and put it temporarily in an external HD case.  Finally, I connected the external volume to an iMac and also ran an Ethernet cable from my Time Capsule to the iMac. Finally, after downloading a fresh copy of the OS X Yosemite Installer I selected the external SSD as the target volume for the new installation
Here's where I may have messed up: when prompted by the Installer I elected not simply to Install OS X Yosemite on the SSD, but to Restore my data from a Time Machine backup. The Installation seemed to be progressing fine for the first 40 minutes or so, when the following screen displayed
Although at first I was encouraged by this screen that the OS X Yosemite Installer was actually working fine, that was two days ago. The little spinning spoke-wheel near the bottom of that white screen has been spinning and, for the past 50 hours, telling me that it's busy 'Setting up..."
    My question
Is anyone reading this familiar enough with the Yosemite Installer to know whether this is likely to be a hangup, or simply the expected slow-down related to my decision to have the Installer Restore my encrypted data from the Time Capsule? Clearly I've never before done a full restore from a Time Machine backup, so I don't know what to expect in terms of a Full Restore and would greatly appreciate any supportive insights.  Thanks.

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly to restart.

    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor

  • SCCM Installation Ironport Plugin for Outlook - CustomConfig files

I'm attempting to install the Ironport Plugin via SCCM.  Our client is version 7.2.0.039.  Pretty standard executable install, however, I need to use the UseCustomConfigs switch to set configurations in the client when it reaches our 2500 machines.  My issue is with the syntax of the UseCustomConfigs switch.  I am running the CiscoEmailSecurity-7-2-0-039.exe from a local folder on our SCCM server, not via UNC.  I have the executable, the setup.iss, and the 2 config files that I need in that working directory.  Below is the syntax I've tried.  SCCM attempts to retry the install, but of course it fails......
    CiscoEmailSecurity-7-2-0-039.exe /s /v"UseCustomConfigs=" /qn /f1 "setup.iss"
I guess my hangup is what do I put after the "=" if I'm running it from the directory that the executable is running from.....

Yes and no.....I did get the install to roll out via SCCM.  It does install, but it fails more than half of the time.  I'm then forced to use the Right Click Toolkit to rerun the advertisement on the machines that it "failed" on, and then it installs.  I always end up with error code -3.  In some cases it has failed because the user had Outlook open, but in other cases, it fails and I've got no real clue as to why......

    Hi christophp45295888,
I am sorry that you are experiencing this issue, however Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 applications, including Acrobat 7 and Audition 3.
CS2 applications require activation to run. To run a CS2 application, uninstall your existing CS2 application and install a special version that does not require activation.
Please follow the steps in this KB doc. Error: "Activation Server Unavailable" | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
This will probably resolve your issue. In case if you still experience any issue, do let us know. We will be more than happy to help you

    Greetings,
TY for the reply, the information was enlightening to be sure. I never knew safe mode was an option with Firefox. I have so many tasks running that I didn't want to shut things down. What I did is turn off some of the last plug-ins I installed. That did not fix the problem at least in the first look. What happened next was very interesting none the less. I had a moment of mouse spastic wrist syndrome and accidentally moved a tab in such a way that it opened in a new window. The URL bar was white and editable. So I moved all my tabs to the new window and everything works as it should. I have restarted Firefox this morning and it came back with the bar editable and I am speechless to understand what I may have done to correct the problem if anything ??
