Installation Horror CS3

On my backup computer I am currently using Creative Suite CS2 and thought it is a good idea to install a standalone version of Indesign CS3 which I purchased recently.
But instead of an installation screen I receive this message:
"Please complete the other installation before attempting to install Adobe Indesign CS3".
I tried everything, even uninstalled CS2, cleaned with Microsoft Cleanup utility, checked the registry "by hand" and still receive that message. I drives me mad and I am running out of ideas.
Help is greatly appreciated!
thanks,
Matt

CS2 should not present any problem at all for installing ID CS3.
I haven't installed anything but a full CS3 Design Premium Suite from that release, but I will say the installer was fraught with problems.
Uninstall any previous versions of Flash Player: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2
Run MSConfig and turn off any unnecessary startup programs (particularly browser toolbars, instant messengers, anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall and iTunes) and any unnecessary non-microsoft services (but leave Bonjour, if it is listed). Restart.
If you tried unsuccessfully to install after running the Clean Script, I'd run it again before trying the install again. There is, I believe an undocumented level 4, but I've never run it so I can't tell you anything about it.
Once you're clean and restarted with a minimal startup, try the ID installer again. If you're successful, run MSConfig again and reset to normal startup.

  • Enabling Installation of CS3 and CS4 products that will not install on Windows 7 64Bit.

Adobe installers are not known for their helpful or forgiving ways & I have more than once had to reinstall Windows when installation of CS3 and CS4 products has failed with patently inscrutable errors.
The background to the current issue that I was attempting to install PS CS4 on a W7 system which already had CS CS3 installed. The CS4 installer threw up inscrutable messages indicating  that the installation could not proceed and to contact Adobe (they are joking right ? Their phone & web support is notoriously UN-helpful).
After reading through threads suggesting that I uninstall CS3, apply CS3 and CS4 cleaning scripts I was in exactly same position I have found myself in on least 2 occasions with WinXP. By this time I couldn't event get CS CS3 to reinstall!
Then I decided to review the event log and found a number of installer events thrown up by the Adobe installers resembling "Error 1402. Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\xxxxxxxx".
I tracked down this very helpful solution which allowed me to change the registry permissions on the parent key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\ Components and propagate the new permissions down to the child keys.
    http://www.okino.com/conv/changing_windows_registry_permissions.htm.
My advice is to follow instructions for "A More All-Encompassing Solution" and propagate the permissions right down to all the child keys as I could see a number of separate adobe installer errors in the event log. Also note the instruction to change the Owner from 'System' to 'Administrators' in Advanced settings. This is necessary in order for the Permissions change to be accepted and replace all the child object permissions.
As with most registry changes good advice to backup your registry hive first (although I didn't; by this time I was already expecting to have to reinstall Windows) and restart your system after making the registry changes before attempting to install  / reinstall CS3 or CS4 products.
Hope this solution works as well for others as it did for me as the Adobe support on this issue has been next to useless.
[P.S. Q: Did you hear the joke about the guy who worked on product installation at Adobe rocking up at job interview with 'Adobe Installation Project Team' on his Resume? A: That that is the joke! If you wanted another job in installation development you would hardly admit to experience at Adobe ;)]

My apologies John I didn't realize that I was addressing the official custodian of Photoshop.
Incidentally my advice is intended for others in a similar situation who find themselves stalled during installation and otherwise contemplating a re-installation of Windows. I believe this would be obvious to most forum participants who had actually read my original post.

  • Installation adobe cs3 avec numéro de série adobe cs4

    Bonjour,

    Hi,
This is the Photoshop.com forum, which is the online forum for the Photoshop.com web site.
You'll get the best response if you post over in the below mentioned Photoshop forum:

  • Installer for CS3?

I am looking for an installer for CS3 Master Suites.  I purchased it years ago and want to put it on a new computer.  I cannot activate it on my new computer.  Can anyone help me with this?  Thanks

Ok, I already installed it, but went I went to activate it on my new computer with my original registration code, it won't let me.  Says it maximum number of activation allowed for this copy.  Is there any way around this so I don't have to purchase the program again?

  • Installation Flash cs3 with Windows Vista Ultimate

I am trying to use Flash on Windows Vista Ultimate.
Installing the program tells me a mistake "error in the
installation component". I have tried to install in administrator
    mode and windows account manager
Can anyone tell me how to install Flash for suite cs3?

I would download a new installer, you can get the trial
installer, then just enter your serial when you first run it.
Sounds like a corrupt exe. But yes, make sure and run as
Administrator by right clicking the file.

In case anyone is still interested in this thread.  I called Adobe tech support and they were able to help me finally get CS3 installed.  The steps I took were kind of messed up because I'd try something and it still wouldn't work and then I'd try something else.  But I think the following was the magic combination that finally worked.  I don't know if this would help anyone else but it worked for me...
I uninstalled all the previously installed CS3 components.  In fact, I uninstalled everything that started with the word "Adobe" on my computer, even Flash Player, just for good measure.
Then I ran the Adobe cleanup script at level 2
I downloaded the script from here...
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
I went into the "computer" window and set it up to show hidden folders.  Click Organize->Folder and Search Options->View. Then click "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
Then I went into C:\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe and moved all the files in there to a folder on my desktop so there was nothing left in the Adobe folder (I don't think it wouldn't let me move some of the Acrobat files so the tech support guy said to just leave them)
I did the same thing for C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe and moved all those files to a folder on my desktop
Then I deleted all the files from C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Roadming\Adobe
I think I ran the cleanup script one more time just for the heck of it.
Next I went to the start menu and on the "Start Search" line I typed "msconfig."  When the system configuration window came up, I went to the "services" tab and checked "Hide All Microsoft Services"  Then I checked "Disable All"  So that disabled everything that wasn't a MicroSoft service.  Then I went to the "Startup" tab and checked "Disable All" and restarted the computer.
Then I went ahead and installed everything fresh off the CS3 DVD and it worked the first time.  No more 1310 errors with the Config.Msi directory.
    Hope this helps someone else.
    Good luck!
    Jenn

  • Re-installation of CS3 error

I am attempting to reinstall CS3 on a new hard drive and getting an error message that I need SP2 or later, but I have the latest version of SP3 already! Here are the facts. Please help me to figure out how to re-install CS3 on my system. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
    1. Windows XP SP3
    2. Hard Drive is partitioned with CS3 on the D partition. Windows itself is on the C partition
    3. Adobe Acrobat 10 and Flash Player 11 are installed and working. They are on the C partition.
    4. There is only 18.5Gb available on the C partition at this time.

This did not work. I received the same error message. I tried it again after doing the following and still getting an error message saying I need to install Win XP SP2 or later even though I have SP3 installed.
    - I downloaded and ran the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and it did not find CS3 on my system (Option 1), but it did 'find' CS5 (Option 2 - which I don't have) so I ran the utility and then did the same for Acrobat (Option 3.)
    - Deleted caps.db files (2) that must have installed when trying to install last time and failed.
    - After using Advanced System Care to locate and delete any remaining files or empty folders, cleaned out the Recycle bin and restarted the computer.
    WTF???
Does this have anything to do with my hard drive being partitioned and Adobe CS3 not being on the C drive with Windows?
Also, I have Eset Smart Security 5 installed. Could this be blocking the installation? (I'm not getting any notices from Eset.)

Du verlierst dich hier in undefiniertem Rumgeeier.

  • Remote disc installation of CS3 fails on disc 2 of 2

I'm using a Mac Book Pro to install Adobe Creative Suite 3 - Web Premium, onto my Macbook Air, using the remote disc feature in Mac OSX.
The first installation disc (applications) installs and then it asks for the second disc (content) to be loaded - I insert the disc and wait a few seconds before clicking OK to continue but the message won’t go away.
Eventually I have to press Cancel and the installation fails. Tried this a few times now and I need to know if this is an Adobe or Mac OSX issue. Would be nice if Adobe could give me a direct download link for the software but they don't appear to support previous versions of CS.

In case you are able to copy contents of disc 2 to your local drive, then try performing a silent install. Or just create a local copy of installer (following Step1 and Step2) and run Setup from there.

  • W7 Installation issues- CS3 or CS5?

Hi, I'm desperately trying to get CS3 onto a clients new PC with Windows 7 x64 on and am not having any luck. It went on a Windows 7 32bit laptop but keeps crashing (the prog has stopped working) and won't run on my own W7 PC so I thought I'd ask in here. Running as administrator doesn't seem to do anything so I'm led to believe we need CS5 to progress?
Any advice or pointers are greatly appreciated,
    TIA
    Andy

Adobe does not officially support Windows 7 with CS3 although it may be possible to install it (make sure you are running as local Administrator).
Although CS5 fully supports Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit), CS5 is no longer officially sold by Adobe although you may find some lingering copies of it in the retail channel. The current version of InDesign is InDesign 7.5 (CS5.5).

  • Problem bei Installation von CS3 unter Win7

    Hallo Zusammen,
