Installation layers
What a pain.
Can't uninstall Sun One Studio CE:
wizard bean 2 could not be loaded. following exceptions yada yada yada.
I'm trying to install:
java 2re 141.03 8.2Mb
j 2 sdk 141.02 with Sun One Studio 94Mb
java web services devpk v1.2 47Mb
1. I want 1 copy of the jre files (bin, libs, etc.) under one directory not 2 or 3 spread all over the hard drive.
2. I would like to get all the files under 1 directory system, but not the C drive, such as:
e:\Java
e:\java\jre
e:\java\sdk
e:\java\sun1studio
3. I'm trying to set up a Java-XML environment, but the installation of these basic components is leading the way in the obfuscation department.
I'm going manually clean out all previous files and registry keys and start over again, but would rather have a map of how to accomplish the installations without error from start to finish.
OS: Windows 98se
Available Storage: gigabytes
To: Sun: Considering there are only so many operating systems, couldn't someone write some recommended programming environment installation instructions for entry level XML and Web Services programming environments? Learning XML and Java technologies concurrently is difficult enough without having the programming environment installation backing up. I've been screwing around with this stuff for days. What a pain.
Found NetBeans. Thanks.
Ref my msg. I couldn't do it. I ended up with two nearly identical j2re1.4.1_02 directories, one in C:\Program Files\Java where the Java Web Start program resides, and the other in E:\Java where I put Sun One Studio.
Same thing happened when I installed IBM Websphere trial. It wrote at least 10,000 keys to my registry database. If I asked them they would probably tell me it's cheap at $1 a key.
I could probably delete the c: set and fix any registry keys, but it's probably not worth the hassle.
I also found the C:\Windows\Java\Packages zips. Looks like a zipped up com installation. Inside are thousands of classes. Ja, I'm new here. Which I'm guessing are accessed by Windows right through the zips.
I'm wondering what the pro's directory structures look like. What would they be based on? Parsers, projects or what? How can I get all this stuff reasonably organized from the beginning, because I can already see that it wants to sprout limbs and grow all over my storage units.

ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
Errors encountered in the Install process. Installation Aborted.
I have got this error twice and during the second time, I made sure that I had started the listener using the lsnrctl and I was able to connect as internal, sys and manager through the svrmgrl . I was also able to run the query "Select * from global_name" which returned ORCL.WORLD.
Please help with this problem.
Thank you.
Shakti SaranHy
thank for your answer...you did me in the right way to solve the problem.
In my case the problem was the source ID . In configtool the box-number was the same that i have put in
cluster_switch.id properties but the problem still occurred.
I was sure about the name but following the OSS note 966752 there is an important sentence:
Note: The default value is crucial! If a custom value other than the default value was applied, we highly recommend that you restore the default value.
well....in configtool of source system ...File -> Configuration Editor and open Configurations -> cluster_data -> Property sheet instance.properties.IDXXXXXXX you have two click on instence.properties and a popup appears and you have to do attention to the default hostname that in my case was different from box number.
I've put the default hostname in cluster_switch.id properties following the note and the migration ended succesfully.
thanks a lot

Any way to view (embed) PDF with layers on a website?
Hi!
I have a PDF file of a map that has layers like water, terrain, roads, city/country names etc.. I would like to embed that PDF file into my website and preserve those layers so that people visiting the website could turn on and off those layers. Is there any way to do it?
Cheers,
SamiGeneral Repair of Adobe Acrobat Reader corrupted .pdf file...
1. Go to adobe official site, click the "Support" tab on the top of the screen, click on "Adobe Reader," and then select the "I can't open a PDF document" statement underneath "Troubleshooting." The Support tab is located near the top of the screen as a white word against a black backdrop. After clicking Support, you will see the phrase "Product Support Centers" on a new page in bold white font, under which is "Adobe Reader." The new page after clicking "Adobe Reader" will have the word "Troubleshooting" underneath the phrase "Adobe Reader and Help Support." Underneath "Troubleshooting" is "I can't open a PDF document."
2. Follow the instructions on how to complete a general repair and installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader. To attempt the most basic PDF repair method, Open "Adobe Acrobat Reader" (select the program in your Start menu, which is on the bottom-left part of the screen), select "Help" from the gray tab menu at the top of Adobe Acrobat Reader, and click on "Repair Adobe Reader Installation." A meter should pop up indicating that your Adobe version is being checked for errors and is being linked back to the home Adobe official website just in case you need to download a new update of the program. If you need to download an updated version of the program, another pop-up will appear on your screen asking you if you want to update Adobe. Click "Yes."
3. Reopen the PDF file. It should now be readable. If not, then try the next set of directions.
4. If nothing helped, and you can't redowload .pdf file from source where it was, then use third party solution PDF On-line repair service https://onlinefilerepair.com/en/pdf-repair-online.html -

Hardware: Asus motherboard MP NPV VM with Nvidea graphics, Amd x2 3600 processor
Installed Version Solaris 10 11/06 update
Problems: 1) Network card was not detected. So Internet can't be configured. 2) Display resolution problems with some monitors - some had maximum resolution that can't be changed at 480x600 in some the resolution was a little better but now on a samptron monitor the resolution is 1024x800. 3) The cursor of the mouse becomes invisible when logged out and logged back in or when restarted (instead of shut down) 4) Star office instalation started displaying errors - the installation progressed well upto 50% stage, but after that over a hundred files could not be installed

Hardware properties:hi Sivasubramanian,
as i'm on a vacation in San Francisco (i'm writing this on my Cingular 8525 Windows Pocket PC 5) I won't be able to take a look at the
report...(my email is jags_fl at yahoo dot com) but after u ran installation check tool did u look at the results? check for those 'Y' & 'N' as showed on following page:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/install_check.html
u would be able to see urself if any hardware is not compatible (at the end of installation check tool)...

Extra Stuff That Adobe Installs with Photoshop CS6
Just having gone through a test installation of Photoshop CS6 on a Windows 8 x64 virtual machine, I found it interesting that just after Photoshop CS6 went in Windows itself reported, through the Action Center, that a bunch of ''background'' programs were installed, and would I like to go into msconfig32 and disable them. In short, even Windows thinks the stuff Adobe installs is excessive and potentially troublesome!
As I prefer AutoRuns to msconfig32, I acutally did go and disable the software which I do not need running, to keep the system lean... It turns out that I actually AM able to disable just about every ''background'' program that Adobe installed, and Photoshop still works just fine.
Just to be clear, the only Adobe software packages I've installed on this VM are Adobe Reader and Adobe Photoshop CS6.
Here's a list of various modules I have disabled without apparent downside:
Programs started at login by entries in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run:
Adobe ARM (Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager)
AdobeCS6ServiceManager (Adobe CS6 Service Manager)
SwitchBoard (SwitchBoard Server (32 bit)
Services started at bootup by entries in the registy key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services:
AdobeARMservice (Adobe Acrobat Updater keeps your Adobe software up to date)
SwitchBoard (Adobe SwitchBoard)
Task Scheduler Entries
\AdobeAAMUpdater-1.0-W8VMRP-NoelC (Adobe Updater Startup Utility)
In the context of a Photoshop-only installation, about the only downside I can see for disabling these things is that since the auto-updaters have been disabled, occasionally I'll need to check for updates manually (e.g., Help - Updates... in the menus, when I hear on the forums that an update has been released).
Many of these things run all the time, from bootup, whether we're using Adobe software or not. It's no wonder people report that their systems "slow down" over time.
Adobe: Please consider offering a ''Lean'' or ''Custom'' installation mode in which these things are optional, and provide clear descriptions of what functionality they provide.
Not everyone prefers to give up their system resources for a little extra convenience.
(and no, I'm not interested in posting this ''feature request'' over on Photoshop.com and hoping for votes)
-NoelThanks.
I've just looked over my Windows 7 AutoRuns settings, and it's pretty much the same stuff I listed above but in slightly different places. On this system over time I have installed multiple versions of Photoshop (Ps 6.0, Ps CS4, Ps CS5, and Ps CS6) and disabled the unneded parts as I've gone along.
Adobe programs I've disabled on Windows 7:
Programs started at login by entries in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run:
AdobeAAMUpdater-1.0 (Adobe Updater Startup Utility)
Programs started at login by entries in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers ion\Run:
AdobeCS4ServiceManager (Adobe CS4 Service Manager)
AdobeCS5ServiceManager (Adobe CS5 Service Manager)
Shell extensions in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\AllFileSystemObjects\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers:
Adobe Drive CS4 (Adobe Drive Menu)
Shell extensions in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Directory\Background\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers:
Adobe Drive CS4 (Adobe Drive Menu)
Task Scheduler Entries
\Adobe Flash Player Updater (Adobe Flash Player Update Service 11.2r202)
Services/Drivers started at bootup by entries in the registy key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services:
AdobeARMservice (Adobe Acrobat Updater keeps your Adobe software up to date)
AdobeFlashPlayerUpdateSvc (This service keeps your Adobe Flash Player installation up to date with the latest enhancements and security fixes)
SwitchBoard (Adobe Switchboard)
adfs (Adobe Drive File System Driver)
Networking layers started in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order
AdobeDriveCS4_NP (Adobe Drive CS4 Network)
By the way, the AutoRuns tool I mentioned comes from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
Keep in mind I don't have the full Creative Suite, just Photoshop, and I am willing to check for updates manually.
Please understand that fooling with parts of the system like this can be touchy, and you might not want to attempt these kinds of operations unless you're familiar with Windows system management. That said, Autoruns makes it pretty easy (just uncheck / check a box) to disable things and re-enable them.

Photoshop CS5.5 Layers partially disappear. Cannot get them back.
Adobe CS5.5 Photoshop running on Mac OS X.
This is a brand new installation, just purchased and installed last week, and this is the first graphic heavy task I have attempted using Photoshop CS5.5. I was working in a document (photo-manipulation) and eveyrthing was going very, very smoothly. I was using mostly Masks. The issue ocurred immediately after I tried to apply a Hue/Saturation effect to the topmost layer. All the layers experienced partial disappearing. Even though they appear whole in the layers tab, on the stage huge parts are missing.
See this screenshot:
I tried to undo the Hue/Saturation, close Photoshop completely and reopen, and double checking the settings on each layer. I was saving as I went along but even closing without saving and re-opening the file did not help much. Most of the disppeared portions have returned, but there are still "chunks", sort to speak, that are "missing". I have spent about four hours on this piece so far, and I really do not want to have to go back and re-do the "missing" parts (that are not really missing just not showing up). And the layer with the knight is not supposed to be black, Photoshop did that all on its own. O.o
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to get all of each layer back visible? I have used Photoshop CS2 and I have Photoshop CS4 on my other computer, but I have never had this happen in any of the earlier versions. And this being the first time I used Photoshop CS5.5 for more than just saving screenshots... Yeah. Any ideas?
~JacquelynOn your recommendation, I tried turning off the OpenGL and restarted Photoshop. I also checked the blend settings. No change. I am beginning to think that perhaps the missing "chunks" on the various layers were somehow deleted. Though I did not select nor delete anything. It is very curious. I wish I knew what happened (or what I did by accident) so I can prevent this type of thing from happening in the future.
Anyway, I spent a few extra hours re-doing the parts that were "missing" and now the piece is finished. http://fav.me/d49b0sz

Photoshop CS3 Extended won't recognize QuickTime installation
Hi,
using Photoshop CS3 Extended, I tried opening an animated GIF today without success. After some forum searching I found I had to import it as video into layers.
When I tried that I got this message:
"Could not complete the video frames to layers command because QuickTime version 7.1 or later is required."
I have QuickTime installed, the newest version (checked for updates and found none), and it works normally. This computer is just about 2 months old, so it's not an out-of-date installation of QuickTime, either.
I am running Windows XP Pro.
How does Photoshop determine whether QuickTime is installed or not?
Any other ideas?
I'd rather avoid re-installing programs (especially QuickTime) if there's an easier fix for this.
Thanks!Richard.
There was a problem with QT 7.4 and the Digital rights Management segment that conflicted with After Effects and Premier. There was an almost immediate update from Apple to 7.4.1 (6?) which fixed this problem, there may infact have been another update since then although from memory this was just an itunes update.
I'd update to the latest version which will more than likely fix the problems. If as you said you have the latest version then try uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it rather than using the apple updater.

CS4 - Layers Display Issue and more
I am running XP64 and have CS4-32 and CS4-64bit installed (using the updated and correct master collection installer)
CS4-32 is basically unusable to me because I cannot see what I am doing as changes are being made to layers. It does it does not display updates to a layer on the screen until I click on the photo. For example, I have a psd file with a background layer and a Gaussian blur layer. A layer mask was used to mask out portions of the blur. IF I simply click the eyeball off on the blur layer, I see no changes to the photo until I click inside the photo. Disabling/enabling the layer mask as the same issue.
If I use the brush tool to make adjustments to the mask, I can no longer see the mask in the layers pallet. The mask is displayed as tiny black and white dots and has no representation of my actual mask. As I brush changes onto the mask, I can see the effects in real time on the photo. But I still cannot see the normal B&W representation of the mask in the layers pallet. If I use the brush tool on the blur layer (not the mask), the photographic thumbnail representation normally displayed in the layer's palette also turns into displaying tiny black and white dots.
b What is causing this issue? Is it a setting that I can change or a bug?
The above issue(s) do NOT happen with CS4-XP64.
Upon startup in CS4-64, I get a GPU disabled message. in CS4-32, I do not. But in CS4-32, my CPU settings are dimmed out and openGL is NOT checked. I have the latest drivers for my video cards installed. In CS3, enable 3D acceleration is checked. IN AE CS3 and AE CS4, it lists that my openGL is 2.1.2 and all features of AE are supported. What open-GL version does PS-CS4 need?Who was asking for sympathy? I was only asking for help, which a few people were kind enough to provide. I see no reason for people to make posts on other people's threads that do not offer any help. If you think that I am stupid for using an unsupported OS, then just don't post and keep those feelings to yourself. How are posts like this constructive? I even stated in my last post that I knew that I was not going to get any help from Adobe. So why reiterate that? What is the purpose of your and these types of posts? I am as baffled by them as you apparently are about why I am using XP64.
But if you must know why I do not go to another OS, it is because back when I built this computer, XP64 was the only 64 bit OS around. I have this computer in a dual boot with XP PRo 32 bit and XP64. XP64 has, up to this point, been the most stable platform for me to run the adobe suite of products on. I can clearly say this since I have installed (and since deactivated) them on the same hardware under the XP32 boot. But XP64 has, again, been very stable. I have had many iterations of Adobe software on everything from Win 200 to several on XP and on Vista. And without a doubt this XP64 machine has been the most stable for what I do.
The other reason why I continue to use XP64 is because I cannot upgrade to Vista 64 without a totally new computer. The MB drivers have not been developed for Vista.
And lastly, 64 bit allows me to run more programs at once by utilizing more total memory, even with 32 bit applications. I could install the suite on my XP32 version of the same machine but I'd rather continue to use XP64 with CS3 than not having the stability and ability of running more applications simultaneously that I can with XP64.
So yea, my living depends on my software working correctly too and PS CS3 will work just as well today as it worked before I installed CS4. It is just not worth it for me to spend thousands of dollars on a new PC just so that I have say that my computer is run under a supported OS. As we have seen here, a supported OS is not a guarantee that the software does not have bugs in it. This issue will not affect my ability to make a living. It is only a minor inconvenience that will undoubtedly be fixed in time. -
Selection tool not working and cannot select layers
Just loaded up cs5 w/ indesign and tried to start using indesign. To my dismay the selection tool and the layers will not high light when pointed to or work when clicked upon. these are the only tool i've found not to be working so far.
Are you using Windows 7, if so, see InDesign tools and panels don't respond to mouse clicks (Windows 7/Vista)
If not, what is the OS, and what language is the installation of ID? -
Renumbering frames/layers cs-4?
Morning all, I have been importing QT video;'s via: Import video frames to layers, I then duplicate some of the layers as well as add others. Now, these show up in the layers column as i.e. layer 1 copy, layer 1 copy 2 etc, etc. In the animation (frames) section they do not show at all, is there a way of adding and re-numbering these additions in both frames and layers?
TKS Garyis there a way of adding and re-numbering these additions in both frames and layers?
I may be repeating myself, but if you »Delete Animation« and then »Make Frames From Layers« does that not include the new layers in the animation?
Are you saying that this is done manually or there is an auto process that can accomplish it?
A Script can handle this.
The following might work (but only on top level layers, groups would necessitate a slightly more complicated approach); I would expect that vastly better renaming Scripts are available in the Photoshop Scripting Forum, though.
If you want to give it a try, paste the following text into a new file in ExtendScript Toolkit (part of Photoshop’s installation, Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/ExtendScript Toolkit CS4) and save it as a jsx-file into Photoshop’s Presets/Scripts-folder.
After restarting Photoshop the Script should be available under File > Scripts and can be assigned a Keyboard Shortcut directly, recorded into an Action, (in CS4) be used in a Configurator-Panel or started from ExtendScript Toolkit directly.
// rename top level layers;
// use it at your own risk;
#target photoshop
if (app.documents.length > 0 && app.activeDocument.layers.length > 1) {
var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
var theLayers = myDocument.layers;
var theNumber = 1;
for (var m = theLayers.length - 1; m >= 0; m--) {
theLayers[m].name = "layer_" + bufferNumberWithZeros(theNumber, 3);
theNumber++
////// buffer number with zeros //////
function bufferNumberWithZeros (number, places) {
var theNumberString = String(number);

I installed photoshop from the adobe online and all files have to be saved as "photoshop cc". This new program does not give the option to save a file as photoshop cs6, etc. I created an animation/video as a photoshop cc. After a few days of returning to my saved file, some links are missing in the layers panel and the video/animation in the timeline cannot be found. You would have to have downloaded the new photoshop from adobe online to know what I am talking about. Can anyone help with this issue?
I don't do 3D animations, but Seb Zaremba said it worked in the former Photoshop CC. You can have both version installed on your computer. Go to the Creative Cloud app and Apps>Filter & version>previous versions. There you will find the installer for CC (2013). Give it a try.
Also, you might consider reporting a bug over at feedback.photoshop.com

Some installation questions concerning AS and 8i
I will be installing 8i Enterprise Edition so that I can work with 9i AS. I have read through most of the Installation Guide for Oracle 8i - Enterprise Edition Release 3 (8.1.7) for Windows NT. I have some questions that didnt seem to be addressed in the documentation.
How to access Web Site component?
Appendix A, 'Individual Components Available for Installation,' indicates that the Oracle Enterprise Manager Web Site component is not included in either the Typical or Minimal installations of Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition. Is it available through a custom installation, or how do I access this component?
Advanced Security questions:
That same appendix also makes it clear that one of the primary differences between the Typical and Minimal installations is all of the Advanced Security features (encryption and integrity support; authentication support; and so on). It seems that I will need the Advanced Security component, because I will be configuring a database that stores usernames and passwords. However, I will be working with Oracle Portal. Can security features be configured just through Portal and 9i Application Server, or do I need to use Advanced Security instead, or in addition to, Portal and AS?
From what I understand, Advanced Security works with SSL (Secure Socket Layers). Does this affect visitors' ability to access a Web application anonymously before login (doesnt interaction with an application in SSL require online exchange between computers of authenticated, encrypted digital certificates? I hope this question makes sense; I'm new to the topic.) Is there a short answer to this question?
Application Server instead of Oracle HTTP server:
I also saw in Appendix A that the Oracle HTTP server powered by Apache is included with both the Typical and Minimal installations. It's also bundled as a "Web listener" with the Oracle Enterprise Manager Web Site.
However, I will be installing 9i Application Server instead to work with the 8i database. Will this cause any conflicts? I'm just wondering if the Oracle HTTP server component can be excluded from the beginning, without doing a custom install. I did see on pg. 3-6 of the Installation Guide (under 'Oracle Enterprise Manager Web Browser Requirements') that Oracle Enterprise Web Site does support the Oracle Internet Application Server.
Also, I understand from the section on 'Mandatory Individual Component Requirements' that Advanced Security "requires preinstallation of an LDAP directory such as Oracle Internet Directory (provided on the component CD-ROM)." It refers me to the Oracle Advanced Security Administrator's Guide for further information.
Oracle Internet Directory:
However, I haven't been able to access the Security Administrator documentation yet for installation procedures since I haven't been able to successfully download 8i Enterprise Edition (with all of the supporting documentation) yet.
I looked at the online 8i documentation at http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_index.htm but did not see any reference to the Advanced Security Administrators Guide.
As for Oracle Internet Directory itself, I did just find the Oracle Internet Directory Administrator's Guide on the oracle8i/doc_index.htm page mentioned above - so that should help.
I also looked at the Oracle Internet Directory download page to see if links to documentation might be provided there, but saw that "Oracle Internet Directory Release 2.1.1.0 is delivered as part of Oracle8i Release 3" which leads me back to the 8i Enterprise Edition page where Ive been experiencing download difficulties. So far as I know, theres no evaluation-version CDs available for this software, though there are evaluation CDs available for 9i AS.

@op - the tip that urfaust posted is contained in the beginners_guide wiki article. You should not attempt installing arch without reading this guide. If you have two computers, you can install arch on one while browsing to the guide on the 2nd. -
Need to export file with different layers selected automatically
I have a file with a background and various text layers.
I want to select each text layer individually and export them to a file, but I don't want to do this manually because it would take a lot of work.
My question is, how would i tell photoshop to export X numbers of files. Where X=number of text boxes.I still don’t quite follow: Should the resulting files combine one of the text-layers with the lowermost layer or display only one of the layers?
Because I thought Export Layers to Files would do the second.
Anyway, the following might help, You would have to enter Your intended gif-settings in the Script manually though (see »Photoshop CS4 JavaScript Ref.pdf« or ExtendSctipt Toolkit’s Help > Object Model Viewer for the correct nomenclature for the various options).
And You should adjust the naming-procedure to Your liking, I didn’t use the actual layer-names to avoid possibly overly long names.
Paste the following text into a new file in ExtendScript Toolkit (part of Photoshop’s installation) and save it as a jsx-file into Photoshop’s Presets/Scripts-folder.
After restarting Photoshop theScript should be available under File > Scripts and can be assigned a Keyboard Shortcut directly, recorded into an Action or (in CS4) be used in a Configurator-Panel.
